Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Out of the Shadows ❯ Farewell Kai Hiwatari... Maybe we'll meet again ( Chapter 25 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

The tension on the plane for the rest of the trip had been very noticeable, everyone refused to talk to one another. Inside all six of them, the thoughts were going wild, but the fact was undeniable, the Bladebreakers were history, finito, over.

Kai couldn't believe it. He wasn't angry, he was furious, not just with her, but himself also. He'd trusted her, named her as his friend, though he'd known better. And now she was going to fail him and leave him, just like they always did. `Never again!' he said to himself, this had been the last time. Why should he care about her, she could go and die or something, what did he care? But why did it hurt so much?? He was used to being let down and left alone, everyone he'd ever cared for had done it to him. His parents, his grandfather and now she'd done it too. After all he'd been expecting it all along, but why did it hurt so much?

The hotel room was nice, just like the other ones had been, but no one seemed to appreciate it as much as they used to. Everyone seemed to have gone into lethargy, no one spoke, no one smiled or laughed like they used to. Even Tyson held his mouth shut, that was very unusual. He refused to speak to Anya, or even look at her. She wasn't around much anyway, she went out the first thing when they arrived and didn't come back until midnight.

She wasn't going to blade in their match against Unholy Alliance, which were their last game together. Kenny gathered them all together for their usual preparation talk; this time he was a bit down hearted though. She'd told them that they couldn't win, and something about the dead. No one really seemed to remember, cause she'd told them that right after the part about her leaving. The only one who seemed to understand her choice was Ray, the other ones were either bitter or sad. Max was very sad about her quitting; he felt that they'd lost her as a friend. They had been such a good team; even Kai had taken more part of it than usual. And now it was all wasted, gone.

But for Tyson, that was not the hardest part. She wouldn't just leave them; she was going to join another team. He'd hated it when Kai had done it and he hated it even more now. Unlike Kai, she didn't keep people at some distance, she'd told them stuff about herself, but at the same time she had many secrets they still had no answer to. How could she do this? Tyson had seen her as his friend and friends don't just desert each other like this, and especially not for another team.

Ray was first out in the match and he was up against Trisa, than came Kai against Jesica and last were Tyson up against Kelinka. This order fitted them just fine since Tyson was excellent to have in the last match, especially if it was a tie for the moment; he rarely lost a game. In his mind, Tyson thanked his lucky star for playing in this match. He would show them; you don't steal teammates without getting hell for it. He'd show them, he'd show them all..

They were standing outside the arena doors. In just a few second they would open them and step out to the cheering of the crowd. Anya was not with them; she'd left their team for good and was probably sitting on a bench looking down at the dish. No one spoke, they just stared at one another. Outside, they could hear Jazzman call their names, it was their signal. Ray went out first, he walked over to their bench. The others followed close behind.

“Go get them Ray:” said Kenny to him. Now that Anya was gone, he would have to take her place. He had practiced very hard this year, but he was still not in the same league as the others, and he knew it. Ray nodded to him and stepped over to the dish.

On the other side of it, the Unholy Alliance had some sort of last talk, Trisa amongst them. Jesica, who seemed to be the leader of their team said something to her and she nodded. Then she turned to face Ray in the match that could come out in anyway since no one knew which team were the strongest. Ray could see that she wore a blue dress underneath the gray clock, Her ruby eyes glistered in the spotlight and her deep-pink hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders. Ray thought that he had never seen someone look so empty, angry and sad at he same time. He had never realized how beautiful she was either, but she was. She was fascinating, scarred and horrifying at the same time, but undeniably beautiful.

Trisa stuck one of her hands inside her cloak and grabbed her blade; Ray saw that it was carbon black. Just like Anya's blade. He could sense a bitter determination in her features and sensed that this would be a hard match to win.

At Jazzman's count, they launched their blades and the match had begun. Ray went for a quick attack, thinking that maybe he could finish this match before it had begun properly. But his attempt was futile, her blade didn't budge even an inch. He gazed up at the girl and was surprised to see her staring at the ground as though she'd been hypnotized. Something was very wrong, he realized. He didn't like an easy win, but anything was good enough right now. He saw his chance and took it.

“Driger, gatlin claw now!” he called. The mighty tiger rose from his blade and sped towards his opponent. `Hehe, gotcha!' he thought, but then he caught a glimpse of Trisa again. He jerked and jumped back, horrified by the presence in front of him. The girl was glowing with an insane, sparkling light. Her cloak and dress were fluttering as though she'd been caught in a storm. But the most frightening part was her eyes, they had gone from crimson to black holes. When Ray's catlike, yellow orbs met her black holes, he got the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare. A high-pitch scream rose in his head, rose and then faltered and then it rose again. It sounded like it came from thousands of people at the same time, it filled every inch of his body with fear. Ray shuddered before the shape of the girl. He could see Driger hit her blade hard and then, as though he'd hit an invisible wall, he bounced off again. Trisa opened her mouth and called out:

“Wergon, crush him!” and a mighty roar rose from her blade. A dark, giant, hairy shape emerged, it crawled out of the blade and expanded until it was enormous. The thing had it's back to Ray, and slowly turned around. Ray gasped, this wasn't a bit-beast, this was a monster. It was huge and wolf-like; and had a massive but yet flexible body and a long shaggy tail. The fur was black and thick. It had a big head with a mouth full of sharp teeth. A long light-pink tongue hung out between its drooling fangs. The nose was black and pointy, it could smell blood from miles distant, even more sensitive than a sharks. And the eyes... they had the exact same black lustre as Trisa's, insane. The monster raised its head towards the ceiling and howled, an awful sound that made him shiver down his spine. The wolf lowered its back and quicker than Ray's eyes could register, the thing threw itself on Driger. The speed and strength of the creature was terrible to behold as it bashed into Driger and threw him out of its way, as if he hadn't weighed more than a glove.

“Finish this!” The girl commanded, and the monster flew on Driger again. There was a flash of blinding light, and the first round was over. Ray blade lay motionless by the side of the dish. All five of the Bladebreakers stared in chock, Trisa had beaten Ray as if he'd been an amateur. Ray bent down and picked up his blade, then he looked up again.

The wolf was still there, but it had shrunken to the size of about twice a mans height. It moved to the girl and crouched before her. Trisa stared into the monsters eyes, a look of fear, disgust and anguish plagued her features. The wolf-like creature raised one of its huge paws and whimpered. The girl seemed to hesitate for a moment, but then also she raised her hand. The wolf dissolved into thin air, it was gone.

The next match went the same way as the fist had done, the Bladebreakers lost again. Kai seemed to have a chance to win until Jesica called for her beast. Its name was Valkyria, another monster, and this one was even more terrifying than the first one. It was tall and dressed in a black robe with a black cloak. The eyes were burning holes of evil and it opened its mouth and hissed. It didn't sound like a hiss though, it sounded more like a terrible scream, like long nails on a blackboard. It didn't appear to be such a big threat though until Kai's Dranzer tried to attack it. With a speed faster than light the creature moved out of the way and appeared on a place far from the one it had been on for less than a second ago. Jesica seemed to have gotten tires of playing cat and mouse and she shouted:

“Valkyria, Bloodlust!” The monsters mouth seemed to expand until it covered most part of the head. It was like a gaping hole of sharp teeth. The vampire threw itself towards Dranzer, and missed him with only an inch. With a snap, the fangs flew shut, much like a mousetrap. The vampire repeated the procedure over and over again with the speed of light.

Then something interrupted the game. A horrified shriek came from the Unholy Alliance's bench.

“Noo, Jesica stop it! Don't do it, it's not necessary!” On the bench, Trisa was struggling to hold back the fighting Kelinka. The white haired girl had a terrified look on her face and she screamed:

“Please stop!” Jesica turned to the struggling two girls, her flaming red eyes met Kelinika's, and she nodded.

“Enough Valkyria. We shall spare him for this time. Summon darkness!” she called.

A bulb of darkness and flashes appeared between the vampire's two hands. It brought its hands further away and the bulb expanded. And then with a shrieking hiss, the vampire threw the bulb at Dranzer and the second round was settled.

The Bladebreakers defeat was total. Though Tyson fought as a madman, he couldn't defeat Kelinka's mighty bit-beast Akia, a tall white witch. In the beginning of the match, the witch cast some spell on Dragoon. She seemed to hypnotize him and made him immovable. Then she summoned a mighty ice storm, which whipped the faces of those who were in the arena. When the ice and snow had settled again they found Dragoon frozen solid in the middle of the dish.

In his mind, Max wondered if he was the only one who noticed a remarkable resemblance between Kelinka and her bit-beast Akia. The tall, pale white-haired witch was almost the mirror image of Kelinka. `Nah,' he thought `not possible'

It was dark. In the middle of a clearing stood five shapes. They looked as though waiting for someone. The full moon was hidden behind thick clouds. A sudden movement made five heads turn the same way, Anya had arrived. The five girls removed their hoods. They were smiling.

“Welcome, we have waited for you.” Jesica said. Anya tried to smile back, but her features didn't want to obey her. She made one futile attempt that resulted in a smile holding no such thing as joy or happiness. Kelinka's smile faltered.

“You know you don't belong with them, they are mortal, we are not. Maybe they'll be safer now that you are with us. It's time to go home. War is at the door and we need you. Maybe you'll see them again one day.” The white-haired girl told her with a saddened look in her eyes. Anya nodded slowly.

“Yes, maybe...” They turned to Jesica. She was wobbling with something in her hands. She chanted some words and out of nowhere, a shining portal appeared. The black and white-haired girl stepped into the light, and she was gone. Mila and Hera followed, then Trisa and Kelinka. Just as Anya was about to enter the shining circle of light, a voice called her back.

“Anya... wait!” She turned around and to her great surprise, she found Kai there.

“Kai... what are you doing here?” He was panting, apparently he had been running.

“I came to ask you... to ask you to come back to us.” A great look of astonishment spread across her features, but the she shook her head slowly.

“Kai, no matter how much I want to, I can't. I have to go back to where I belong. I'm riding to war, Ortos and Adina is on the other side waiting for me. I'm sorry I couldn't heal you, I tried but sometimes it's not enough. You'll all be a lot safer here without me.” She looked very sad, as if it hurt her to say this to him. And then he understood, she was leaving. That hole would carry her to someplace to far away to reach. She'd given him hope, she shone like a light in the dark, but now she was leaving. And then he realized something else. He discovered something inside him that he'd never thought he'd find there.

“Wait Anya, you can't leave. You did heal me, you gave me hope though I'd lost it all. I need you... I love you..” A tear rode down her face.

“Though it's doomed to fail, though there is no hope at all, I love you too Kai Hiwatari. But I cannot stay, God has already decided which path I shall follow. But know this; I shall never forget you. Farewell Kai, be strong. Don't let this life defeat you, `cause though all the darkness in this world, there is also light, and it's worth fighting for. Live, be at peace..” She turned to walk into the light.

“Wait, will I ever see you again?” Kai asked her. He felt like dying inside by the thought of living his whole life without her.

“Maybe...” she said and stepped into the portal. With one last look at the one she loved, she raised her hand and wiped away the tears on her cheeks.

The portal made of light began to dissolve, leaving the devastated Kai alone in the dark forest. Shaking, he fell to his knees, trying to hold back the burning tears. He was far away from home in a foreign country, lost in a huge forest without his friends knowing where he was. He was shaking in the cold air, while the claws of the giant beast called sorrow tore his heart open. And he was alone again...
