Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Nights ❯ Renee of the Air Empire ( Chapter 11 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

My sister, the only remaining member of my family had been turned into a blood sucking corpse. I couldn't believe my eyes, ears, or nose. This woman whose arms had surrounded me just a moment ago was undoubtedly my younger sister. Her poor pronunciation of words was proof of that, but I was almost completely drawn away from her by the smell of blood that covered her.

As she continued to talk her words passed me by unheard. They edges of my vision began to ebb away. It wasn't until I started to collapse did I realize I needed to breath, but even then I couldn't bring my body to listen to my weak commands. I was going through mild shock and I didn't know how to bring myself back.

Alli's grip on my shoulders disappeared as silent tears passed down my cheeks. My knees hit the floor hard then my hands followed. Short gasps ripped through my dry throat as tears poured from my eyes like a leaking faucet.

I had failed at the one job I had given my life too. Keep my baby sister safe.

Warmth suddenly surrounded my body. I wanted to fight it off, to wallow in my sorrows, but my body didn't have the strength. I gave into it. I welcomed it, buried my face into that warmth, let it move my body, removing me from the cold stone surface below me. I let it cradle me, rocking my body in its warm embrace.

“Ma petite fleur…” My ears picked up the soft whisper of my native tongue. It had been ages since I had spoken or heard French. “C'est pourtant nous qui t'avons propose de remplir ton calice.” Slowly I felt my body return to my mind. I could breathe without gasping and my body relaxed. “Tu étas assez riche, pour devenir cent fois toiméme en une seule fleur.” It took me a while to recognize the voice as Tala's. I could feel the pull of his words calming my body and before I knew it I was completely lax in his arms. Only my struggling breath and tear stained face remained of my episode from a moment ago.

“I'm so sorry.” I heard him whisper between the French he was speaking to calm me. I knew he had used a spell to calm me down, but I wasn't angry, I was relieved. I opened my eyes, though I didn't remember shutting them, and looked up at my intended. His eyes were a soft, pale baby blue.

“Don't be. It's not your fault.” I forced the words from my mouth and sent him a weak smile. “My blood line is just destined to vanish.” I mumbled as I hung my head. I had to regain my composure before someone else saw my display of weakness. I couldn't prove myself to be a princess in a trembling, weak body.

“You don't know what you are saying.” I shook my head and closed my eyes again.

“I do. First my parents and now Alli…” I rolled my face into his shoulder not wanting to be seen. It hurt, learning that the one person I truly cared about was a living corpse.

“She isn't dead, just not alive...” His words did nothing to comfort me. I had always feared vampires. My parents told me to avoid them at all costs until I was queen. They weren't demons, but devils in my eyes. Especially now. Vampires were my people's enemy.

“That is worse than death.” His arms tightened around me, holding my body tightly to his. His thumb ran circles on the small of my back trying to sooth my torn up heart. I pushed myself away from his comforting embrace but stopped when I realized he had lifted me away from the ground and up into his arms. “Put me down.”

He did as I ordered, but kept his arms around me. Bryan and Alli had disappeared, most likely into the meeting room leaving us alone in the hallway.

“Please mind your words when we enter.” His voice was soft behind my ear. “Don't give them anything to hold against you.” I slowly nodded my head as I whipped the damp tear trails from my cheeks. I wanted so badly to go in shouting and raving, but I knew better then to draw attention to myself like here.

The door opened and we slowly entered the dark room. Unlike before the room was pitch black. If it wasn't for Tala's careful grip on my hand I probably would have stumbled about and broken something. There were a total of 17 people in the room besides our self and all of them gave off the strange glow I had seen during my first visit to this room. I glanced over at Tala and saw that he too was glowing like the others in the room. He silently led me to a gap in the ring of people and we took our seats, completing the ring. The whole set up of the room made me think of King Arthur's knights and their table.

Everyone sat silently as the door to the hallway creaked shut. I looked around the room observing the various colors of each person's glow. Everyone except for Tala had a single color in their aura. The man next to me had a soft turquoise glow about him while the man on his other said had a pulsing orange glow. Only one set of people had the same glow. I assumed they were Bryan and my sister. They both had a dark purple aura that almost blended in with the room to my eyes.

“You dare to bring a human to our meeting?” I wasn't sure who had broken the silence first, but everyone seemed to turn their head to the man out lined in a golden shimmer.

“A female none the less,” I snorted quietly in protest. Sexist men were running the demon realm. Great.

“I am violating no rule by bringing her here.” Tala's voice was hard but polished like fine granite.

“She is human and she has no part in our discussions. She should not be here.” I looked at the man sitting next to me. He had not spoken, but his eyes were set firmly on me.

“Are you so blind?” The man next to me spoke up. His voice was light and calming like the sea. “She is one of us.”

The first man who had spoken shifted and questioned the man next to me. “She has no Aura. How can she be a demon?”

He was right; I had no glow to speak of. Everything demonic about me was safely tucked away in a jewelry box back home.

“Can you not hide your aura?” There were a few mumbles about the room. “This one has done a good job of hiding hers.” I watched as the glowing outline of his hand steadily lift and gently brushed across the back of my hand. A pulse of power slammed into me sending my mind for a loop. I felt a small flare of power emerge from my gut and push back against the invading power. Searing pain washed over my arms and shoulders and slowly crept out across my body. I watched silently as the markings of my royal heritage flared to life, though they had spread out from just my arms and shoulders. My neck and face were on fire as well as my abdomen and legs. There were startled gasps from around the room as the glowing figures gazed upon me in wonder. I let a small gasp drag past my lips as the invading rush of power faded to a lingering memory on the back of my tongue.

“How did you do that?” I suddenly splurted out as I held my hands up so I could see them better. I ran my fingers over the long missed markings. They were a proclamation of my birth right all by them selves.

“I did nothing. Your body rejected my powers.” I looked back to him quizzically. Did that mean my body accepted Tala and Alli's powers? It made sense if that was true.

“Who are you child? What is your name?” I lowered my glowing hands to let my eyes flick over the glowing bodies in the room. Finally my eyes landed on Tala who nodded.

“I am the daughter of Queen Ellen-Desiree and King Rayel.” I turned my eyes to look at each glowing figure in turn. “My name is Renee of the Air Empire.”
