Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Nights ❯ Ming-Ming and Ray Kon ( Chapter 14 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

The night, or day, or whatever it was passed by quickly. Tala and I had spoke for a while longer after my powers had returned. I cleared up a few loose ends about what he had done while I was passed out. After the talk I had fallen asleep all cozy in his arms.

The next morning I awoke to the soft murmur of two voices talking quietly in the background. My eyes blinked to life as I slowly lifted myself up from the mattress to sit cross legged. I made sure too keep the sheets around my lower half. I knew I wasn't wearing anything more than underwear and I didn't want to flash anyone on accident. I rubbed the fog from my eyes to clear my vision and gazed around the room.

It took me a minute to realize I was facing the wrong side of the room, but once I did catch on I quickly, well as quickly as my drowsy mind would allow, spun around and looked at the two figures. One was Tala. That much was easy to tell. The other was familiar, from the meeting no doubt.

They were both fully dresses and ready for the day, or night. I wasn't sure which it was right now. It had seemed that they hadn't noticed my fully awake state yet so I sat quietly and listened to their soft conversation.

“So, what are you going to do with her?” I instantly wondered if they were talking bout me.

“Nothing, just like the last one. I need to have a talk with my parents. Their little match maker game is starting to piss me off.” I quirked an eye brow curiously as I watched Tala's body gestures. They couldn't possibly be talking about me; I had nothing to do with his parents.

“They are just trying to make you settle down. They don't know about the Princess's return yet.” The other man shrugged and leaned against the desk with his back still turned to me.

I focused my eyes on his body. A mass of black of hair surrounded his head and a thin pony tail like strand ran from the back of his neck to his butt. He was wearing a Chinese style outfit. Threaded buttons adorned the end of his pant legs and the end of his sleeves. As far as I could tell he was a Neko-jin. Only Neko-Jins wore Chinese style clothing, after all they were the only Chinese race.

The door to the bathroom suddenly opened making me jump in surprise. I spun around to look at the figure leaving the bathroom doorway.

“Oh,” The woman who stepped out looked directly at me with a spiteful glare in her eye. “So the whore is awake.” I stared open mouthed up at her in shock.

“Excuse me?” I couldn't believe my ears. Never before have I, the virgin, been called a whore before. I decided at the moment this chick was going to get her face smashed in no matter who the hell she was.

“You heard me, whore.” I gaped at her in silence for a moment before my anger completely took hold of me.

“You will regret calling me a whore.” My powers flared without constraint then. I didn't remember how to hold myself back so I didn't bother trying. Just before I focused my throbbing energy in her direction, a pair of Arctic blue eyes appeared before me. I jumped in surprise and sucked my powers back into my body. Tala was suddenly perched over me with one hand at either side of my hips resting against the mattress.

“Ignore her Renee.” His voice was soft and calming, but it didn't sooth my temper any.

“You know her name? That's a first.” I leaned to the side and glared around Tala at the woman. She stood a bit taller then me, but she was nothing I couldn't handle. This woman was going to regret calling me a whore.

“Tala, get out of my way.” I gritted my teeth to resist the urge to shove him away. He was a lot bigger then me and someone I probably couldn't handle, especially when he was this close.

“Renee, calm down.” I turned my glare to him. He seemed to pull back a bit, but kept one hand on either side of me.

“She has no right to call me a whore. It's like calling a flower a lion!”

“A Flower? I suppose that's what you are, a shriveled up bud.” That was the last straw. Never had I been so insulted before. I wasn't sure how I did it, but I was around Tala and at the woman's throat in a second. Her body slammed into the stone wall with a thick thud. I was about to follow through with a hard kick to her face, but Tala snagged me around the waist and pulled me back. I struggled against his firm grip for a moment, but relaxed once I knew he had a solid hold on me.

“Calm down.” Tala ordered as his grip tightened on me. I watched as the woman shrank and clutched her rib cage gasping for air.

“Ming-Ming, leave.” The other man's voice sounded from the other side of the room. I had forgotten he was there. The woman now named as Ming-Ming glared up at him and slowly stood.

“I don't take orders from you.” She spat out.

“Leave if you don't want to die.” Her eyes narrowed, but she headed for the door. My eyes followed her until the door to the hallway was opened and closed leaving only three bodies in the room.

“Why did you stop me?” I growled in question at Tala who still kept me bundled up in his arms.

“You are too weak to fight her.” I snorted at his answer and pulled away from his waning grip.

“What realm are we in?” I asked as I turned to him and crossed my arms over my chest.

“We are on the border of our own and the desert.”

“I could have crushed her like rock to paper, even if we weren't close to our own lands.”

“You have no control over your powers. You couldn't have won against her.” I stuck my nose in air like a snooty teenager and turned towards the door.

“I could have easily killed her. That's winning, isn't it?” I glanced over at the other man in the room and lifted a quizzical eyebrow. “Who are you?”

“Ray Kon.” His answer was curt and down to the point. I nodded at him in a small bow.

“Emperor of the Neko-jins, it is a pleasure to meet you again.” He had been an emperor for many years before my leave of absence to the human world. I had met in on a few occasions during formal dinners and such. He had always been a kind man that I respected; too bad he had to see me when I was pissed. Oh well.

“Like wise, Princess Renee. That was quite a performance you put on yesterday during the meeting.” I smiled. Same man I remembered.

“Thanks and you were glowing what color?” He laughed.

“Is that all you could see, our glow?” I nodded sheepishly. He laughed again.

“You are an amazing woman, I'll promise you that.”

“Thanks. You were the one in green, weren't you?” I recognized his voice then. That calming but peaceful depth was hard to forget.

“How could you tell?”

“Your voice. You calmed a room full of angry men with it. How could anyone forget a sound like that?” He was a kind and proper man. That probably earned him the trust and respect of all he met. Hell, he already had my trust.

“You are very observant.” I looked to Tala who had given up trying to restrain me and now stood uselessly next to me.

“I try.” I shrugged trying to act modest. I turned to Tala then looked at him stubbornly. “So, are you going to put that bitch in her place, or can I?”

They stared at me, their mouths slightly agape. “What? Never heard a girl swear before? I'm pissed. No one calls me a whore and gets away without at least a broken jaw!”

“Perhaps you should get dressed before you think about parading around.” Tala said after another long minute of staring. I looked down at myself and instantly blushed. I'd forgotten I had been stripped of the dress and was only clothed in a thong and corset.

“Where's that bag with my underwear in it?” I asked looking to Tala.

“Here.” Tala tossed me the bag from out of no where. I didn't react quickly enough and let it hit me square in the chest then fall into my arms. I stuck my arm in the big pouch and started to rummage around feeling for my target. After a minute of digging I felt the soft material I had been searching for. Yanking it out I dumped the bag on the bed and slipped into the slightly worn soccer shorts. They were a deep royal blue with two white stripes running down each side. I smiled and brushed the fabric to a smooth flow over my butt.

“Ah, much better. Can I kick her ass now?”

Ray Kon laughed, Tala soon joined him. I rolled my eyes and headed for the door. I wasn't going to put up with their banter.

Tala snagged my hand as I passed him and spun me back into his arms. He held my waist with one arm while his other hand held my chin lightly. “How do you expect to win against her, hm?” The smile on his lips taunted me like a bobo doll. Damn things always popped back up after you hit them… Creepy clowns…

“Do you honestly think I let myself go to waist in the human world? I'm probably in better shape than you.” I glared into his amused stare.

“In shape for human standards, yes. But we're demons, remember?” I glared at him furiously.

“You're just as sexist as the rest of them!” I pushed myself away from him. “Do I have to prove myself for you to believe me?” I spread my arms wide welcoming any answer he could give me.

“Prove yourself? Why would you do that?” Tala almost seemed surprised by my words.

“Because you think of me as a powerless bride! I'm not the kind of woman to sit around and be sheltered by someone else's arms. I need to teach you how strong I can be.”

I had always prided myself for being an independent and strong woman. I've taken multiple martial arts courses, earned top rank in five out of six styles and have become just as flexible as a gymnast through yoga. I've graduated college as a missus and have garnished my finances as a missus to actors on set. I play soccer every Wednesday and Saturday and on top of it all I was my sister's protector. I haven't needed someone to watch over me for the majority of my life. I needed to show him who I was.

“Fight me Tala. Hand to hand, no power mumbo jumbo or parlor tricks. I'll show you just how hard I've been training.”

He shook his head. “You don't need to prove anything. Ming-Ming is just-“ I cut him off by stomping away towards the hallway door.

A hand brushed across my shoulder. I turned, wheeling my hand behind me, but paused my closed fist when I saw it was Ray Kon who had caught my arm.

“I will take you on, if you will have me.” I looked into his stern eyes. He wasn't bullshitting me. I nodded and dropped my fist to my side.

“'Bout time something wasn't afraid of hurting me. You have a deal, Ray Kon.” I stuck my open hand out to shake. He smiled and took my hand.

“Wait just a second, you aren't seriously going to take on a Neko-jin without your powers-“

“Tala, shut up. I'm going to show you what kind of a woman you choose to marry. I warn you now, don't expect me to burst into tears whenever something goes wrong. Alli was a one time thing. She's the only one I will cry for. The rest of them are already dead.” I looked at him with masked eyes as I released Ray Kon's hand.

We locked eyes and stood motionlessly fighting off each other's glare. I was set. No budging this boulder.

Finally he gave in. “Fine” He shook his head and turned grumpily away from us. I looked up to Ray Kon and grinned.

“Where and when, you name it.” I said as I confidently clasped my hands at my back and rocked onto my heels.

“Noon on the main ring. You have two hours to prepare.” I nodded and bowed to send him on his way. He laughed lightly, bowed and exited stealthily from the room. As soon as the door shut I felt Tala at my neck. Oh Joy.

“You really think you have a chance against him?”

“I know I have much more than a chance of beating him. He's a Neko-jin, so what of it?” I stared defiantly into his raging arctic eyes. Oh boy was he ever pissed. He's probably never had a woman defy him nearly as badly as I have. Ha-ha.

“You are so Naïve.”

“Naïve I am not. You are the one who needs to have a little more faith in me. Back home… Back in the human world I'm a successful and respected woman. I fucking own my own mansion in L.A.! Do you know how much those cost?” I wanted to just spill it all out on him, but I knew he wouldn't understand.

“The mortal realm is nothing like our own! Humans can rank nothing compared to us. Our lowest scums are their world leaders. You are-” I rolled my eyes and dipped around him.

“Your ego is too big for your head.” I stood with my back to his. “Humans are strong willed, cunning and courageous. Hell, they take bigger risks than we do every day. They are flightless yet they climb to the tops of towers. They cannot breathe under water yet they explore the bottom of the ocean. They are amazing creatures. I was just like them you know.” I wandered over to the bed and plopped down. I leaned back on the palms of my hands with my legs still hanging over the edge of the bed. “I learned how they thought, how they live and grew to treasure their ideals.” I let my head fall back and closed my eyes. “I admit, their methods of teaching are rather ineffective and their flaws in knowledge inhibit their ability to educate the masses, but over all they are rather bright.” I drew my head back down and looked to Tala. He stood exactly where I had left him. Falling against the sheets I closed my eyes and tried to relax my tense body. He wasn't going to try and prove me wrong, he was a bit startled by my out burst and sudden affection towards humans.

Two hours of awkward silence was going to be fun.
