Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ The Truth Behind Demons ❯ Mental Tear ( Chapter 5 )
Chapter 5.
The cat like boy had been in the bathroom over fifteen minutes now, in front of the mirror, with a frown on his face. His eyes set on the bottle held in his hand as they peered through the brown hue of the bottle. A light sigh passed through his lips. Only three left... Better make them stretch. Stuffing the pills back into his uniform pocket, he takes a deep breath and lets it slowly out. Looking into his eyes, he curled the corner of his mouth into a smile.
Leaving the bathroom, he heads into his bedroom to the bed and reaches down into the little compartment on the inside. Locating a tight, cream colored, rubber band he slips it over his wrist. This'll have to do for now. Pulling it out, he then lets it go, wincing from the slight pain that surged through his wrist. With a brighter smile, he then exits the bedroom and walks downstairs to the front hall where he leaves the house to head over to Tyson's.
Breakfast had ended some time ago and with luck he got away with nothing but a bowl of cereal. He wasn't in the mood to try his hand at keeping down eggs and toast. Back home, the Chinese boy was satisfied with a cup of yogurt and a half of an orange or apple. But apparently such things are far too uncivilized to his uncle who thinks every morning must consist of a lavish breakfast and at least two different drinks. The only person who can eat that much, in Rei's opinion is-....
"Tyson!" He ran a little faster. "Hey, Tyson! Wait up!"
"Rei!" His boyfriend smiles, slowing his pace which was already pretty lack luster due to the location he was heading. "Dude, check it." He reaches to his left then whips out a long wooden Kendo sword. "I finally found it bro. Now the coach won't get on my case when we have practice."
"That's great Ty', but we don't have Kendo today."
The tanned teen blinks; to Rei, his boyfriend resembles an adorable bunny when he's confused. It always makes the Chinese teen smile seeing that face and since Tyson is usually confused as hell every day was a treat.
"Oh man, now I have to carry this thing around with me all day? What a rip off."
"I don't see why you don't just leave the thing with the coach like the rest of the guys." He steps over a stray can laying in his path. "Then maybe you wouldn't lose it so much."
"Ha. I'll bet that jerk'll lose it for me." He slings an arm around his boyfriends shoulders. "I'm telling you, the guys got it out for me."
Rei looked like he were thinking. "You know something," he snaps his fingers. "When you left the gym room, he did tell all the guys to give you a wedgie when you got back."
"For real? I knew it!" He went off on a hot headed rant. "That guys gonna pay for humiliating me like that. Who does he think he is?!"
Laughing, the cat like boy scans their path seeing the school just a stone throw away. Next to it, across the street, is the high school. At first, he feared that building. It's co-ed. He wondered, before he actually began to attend, what high school life would be like. Would the girls fall all over themselves to get to him? More importantly would they fall all over themselves to get to Tyson. It was such a bother to think that being this way was only cool in middle school because of high school, and once you hit High school it's all girls all the time. That was the way that Kenny seemed to think, it was obvious the shorter boy has a serious thing for Tyson, but whose to say that wouldn't change the moment a cute brainiac hits on him.
Now that Rei actually went there, due to changing of semesters and having two advanced classes in the building, History and Math, he could see first hand that the place was exactly like middle school- well- with the exception of the female gender. Advanced classes were a thrilling idea, but to some it wasn't so fun if they had to be in a completely different school with completely different and scary people. He shivers even now remembering the first couple of days in the ominous place.
"Hey, there's Ozuma!" Tyson points.
Rei wondered where the lamenting boy cut off his traditional 'the coach hates me' speech then turns to see his friend, Ozuma Shields, walking up to them. It was strange seeing Ozuma's hair when they first met: Red on the top and gray on the sides. It made him think of something.... of someone.... He had never seen two toned hair before, and then he met Kai. Seeing his hair made Rei really think that he has seen someone like that before.
"Hey Tyson, Rei." The short boy greets. "Did you guys do your English assignment."
"Not yet, I was kind of hoping to look at your paper." Tyson laughed his trademark laugh.
Shaking his head before taking out a plastic straw, Ozuma replied, sarcastically. "Yeah okay, we can tell Mr. Cheong we answered the questions by drawing a blank."
"Don't worry," he drapes his arms over their shoulders. "I did the assignment. I'll leave it with you guys before I head to high school, you can give it back to me at lunch." Says Rei.
"Oh you remember that you eat at our school." Comments Tyson with a grumpy look on his face. Rei can't blame him, lately he's been having lunch at high school but mostly because it was easier to just remain over there when his math class came right after lunch. The walk back and forth just seems pointless.
"I've explained this to you before, Ty'." Rei began, "I can't make the trip most of the time, the bells are a little off. That's why I'm always early to class when I cross back over to middle school for last period."
"Excuses, excuses." He waves a hand. Snapping his fingers, he looks as though his eyes are gonna pop right out of his head. "Rei I forgot to tell you," Tyson looks at him with those big brown eyes set on something like sadness and possibly a bit of haste. "I can't come over after school, I have to help Grandpa until late, so looks like your on your own."
"Bummer." Replies the cat boy with humor. It didn't make a difference to him but it was sweet that Tyson cared enough to tell him. "Maybe another time then."
"Yeah." Stopping, he nabs Rei's other arm from around Ozuma then pulls him down a bit planting his lips onto his boyfriends.
Ozuma rolls his eyes at them. Did they have to do that in public?
"I'll think of you with every, caressing, motion of my cleaning rag." Laughing, he trots off on up ahead.
"What?"
"Rei," this time it's Ozuma that wants his attention. "My sisters having this sleep over, right, so can I stay over at your place tonight? Last thing I want is to be over there during truth or dare time to have some girl trying to kiss me again."
"Again?"
Shuddering, he answers. "Yeah, and she almost got me had I not slammed the bathroom door in her face."
"Yeah sure."
"Thanks," he slaps him on the shoulder. "I'd of asked Tyson but I don't want to get stuck in one of Tyson's grandpa's cleaning fits."
Laughing, Rei glances up ahead at the youngest Granger; he's over by the front door talking with a blond kid that he's seen before once or twice. "Is it really that bad?" He then looks back to his half Indian friend.
"Ha, you should know. You take Kendo lessons over there don't you." Throwing his hands in the air, he shrugs indifferently. "The mans a maniac."
"Naah, he just has a lot of.... youthful pep."
"Too much of it if you ask me." Spitting to the side littering the sidewalk with a bit of red straw, he sighs dropping the rest of it to the the ground. "You got any gum?"
"No, but I have tic-tacs if that'll do."
"No. I need something that'll last awhile." Looking on up ahead at the crowd of people flooding the building. "Yo Max, you got any gum?!" He rushes over to the cheeky blond.
Rei noticed that 'Max' was the boy that Tyson was just talking with. He wondered a moment what the boys story was. He knew very little about him, but from what he could tell he was a pretty nice guy. Maybe he could get him alone sometime so they could talk better. Max is a B-rank, so it's okay.
As he takes a couple steps up the stairs, he looks over at the highschool building. Through the crowd he spots a mop of gray hair through the crowd of white, black, and gray uniforms. As though he had felt eyes on him Kai turns to see Rei's gaze upon his own. Smiling a greeting, he received the same from the Chinese boy. Tala watched the exchange of greeting and flipped the middle school boy the finger before hustling Kai into the building.
Tch. whatever. Stepping into the building, he prepares for another boring day of school. * * *
A shrill sound fills the air. A man begins to shout, before the shrill sound continues on. Bits of tire hobble along across a larger mass of itself as lazing feet trudge through it. There's a heavy sigh shortly after the mans next outburst, then the feet just stop moving.
"Stop blowing that damned whistle in my ear!" Ozuma shouts. "If I haven't picked up the pace by now, what makes you think I'm going to?!"
"Move your ass Shields!"
"If we're gonna be doing this tomorrow you might as well make it an even tw-..."
"Do you want an F for the day!?"
"Don't worry, sir!" Rei shouts. "We've got him."
He and Tyson rushed by scooping the boy up under his arms to carry him along with them a good distance across the field. The short, mixed child kicking his feet in protest the whole way.
"Put me down you guys!" He snaps.
Tyson laughs while looking at Rei. "Looks like he can move his legs. And here I thought we were dealing with a cripple."
Rei chuckled, slowing his pace to put the boy down before they wound up getting kicked in a very bad place.
Tyson let out an exhausted breath. "Sorry 'Zuma, but you're gonna get in trouble if you fail this class. Remember what happened last year?"
"Hmph." He crosses his arms. "Barely."
"Ha." Tyson crosses his arms as well. "Than let me refresh your memory about your sister running circles around you calling you, 'Failure face'."
"Not to mention," adds Rei. "When she turned you into her slave just to keep it from your parents." He didn't know the situation all that well because he wasn't here back then, but he knew something about it.
"So?"
"And then," Tyson continued. "When your parents found out they sent you to cram school all summer."
"So?"
"So? So? So?" Throwing his hands into the air, Rei sighs. "We're wasting our breath obviously."
"Obviously..." Looking over his shoulder to where the coach was probably still standing, he pouts. "Besides, that jerk has it out for me just because I accidentally spilled something in the locker room."
Punching Ozuma on the shoulder, Tyson chides. "Tch. In the guys chair."
"How was I supposed to know that junk in Rei's lunch was yogurt!"
"You should just know!" Tyson shouts back.
Listening to what they were saying, Rei blinks in thought. "What were you doing digging in my lunch anyway?"
"I was gonna trade you something," the shorter male shrugs.
"Ugh, forget it." Waving it off, they went silent.
The hot sun beat down on them as though it were a summer day when infact it's well into December. That's a bad part about living in another part of the world. While others are getting days off for winter break and things, you're still in school until April and May. But luckily there was a nice breeze every so often so the heat was nothing to complain about.
"Ozuma? You gonna ask Zeo out today?"
"Huh? When would I have the time?"
Rei shrugs. "How 'bout during lunch? Talk to him in private."
Ozuma chewed his bottom lip. The boy was like a beaver with the way he always gnawed at things in the absence of a cigarette. "I guess I could." Though he already sounded as though he were thinking about backing down.
"There's the coach, better get running." Tyson takes off like his foot was lit up on fire.
"I'd run if I were you, Ozuma."
"Nope. Not running."
Laughing, Rei pats the boy on the back. "Alright then. See you in a couple minutes." He laughs again before taking off. He and Tyson must have seen the boy at least five times before they decided next time around they would drag him with them.
"Get a move on Shields!" The coach already begins shouting at him and again, blowing his whistle.
The mixed boy covers his ears, slowly making his way around the track.
After running the mile, the class had come in early to shower off. The school provides the soap and towels but if you wanted a rag, you were on your own. They guessed it was to prevent slacking off and having to touch any actual germs other than towels that dried off your now clean body.
Ozuma wandered around the steam filled area with boredom. Judging by the light sounds of laughter and audible pecks on the lips, Tyson and Rei were at it again. He wouldn't mind as much if he could be up to the same things his self. But that could never be, starting with the fact that Zeo doesn't have gym this semester, right now he's in French class learning his Bonjour from his- well, that's as far as Ozuma got in French class. You couldn't say he was the smartest of the group, but hey at least he's no Tyson; for the longest time the simple boy thought 'french toast' was something you do at a swanky party. But after a couple snap shots from a cook book over at his boyfriends house, he was set straight and wondering why the hell he's never tasted it.
Stopping his slow pace through the watery sweat trap he stopped before his two friends, crossing his arms, he watches in amusement. Tyson has Rei smashed against the cool tile of the shower, his hands grabbing the poor Chinese boy wherever they wished; while Rei is licking away trails of hot water from his boyfriends neck. It's a pretty picture the two of them, but enough was enough.
"Unless I get to cut in, the two of you better cut it out before the coach comes back in and catches you." He threatens.
"Beat it." Is Tyson's reply; Rei laughs it off feeling a hand snaking over his member.
Shrugging, Ozuma walks forward closer into the shower water. Rinsing himself of the suds he used to hide his self from the other boys showering, he then exits with the turn of the hot water knob. "See you in the locker room."
"Ozuma!" Rei shouts feeling a blast of cold water shooting between them.
The mixed boy laughs his way from the shower to the locker room to grab his clothes and a towel. Only three periods to go and he could head home to relax.
After a short while the two boys emerge from the shower shivering, despite having restored the hot water into the cold, and pissy as two cats that got the hose turned on them.
"Ozuma!" Tyson snaps.
"What's the matter?" He can hardly hold his laugh as he speaks. "With as hot as you two are, I didn't think you'd feel it. Can't you take a joke?"
Instead of answering the question the two, bare, boys rush over to their- now dry and fully dressed best friend, incasing him in a tight hug.
"We can take a joke," Rei says.
"And we can give one too." Tyson adds.
Out of nowhere a soggy towel rears its cotton white head over the small, trapped boy. His green eyes grow large when looking up to see what the shadow was that blocked out the light.
"You wouldn't dare." He quips when a drop or two land on his cheek.
Again the two answer it with actions, as they speak louder than words now adays, by giving the towel a hard squeeze.
Ozuma's shouts can be heard all the way in the gym room and maybe a couple classrooms that are down the hall.
"You boys stop messing around in here! Shower off and get out!" The coach yells in full bull raging anger. What is that mans problem? Not enough fiber in his diet. Someone with that much stress cannot have an easy time on the pot, that's for sure.
"You guys got my clothes." Ozuma says, looking himself over in damp disgust.
"That'll teach you then, won't it." Letting the short boy out of his embrace, Tyson walks to his locker to retrieve his clothes and things.
"If I were you, I'd go home." Says his Chinese friend with an impish smirk.
"What for? Ha," he turns to his locker. "It's not like I sweat during class. I'll just wear my gym clothes."
"Suit yourself, but that's what I'd do." He walks over to his locker and starts to dry and dress as well. Grabbing his hair, he gives it a squeeze. "Good thing I wore this today," he stuffs his wrap into his back pack. "I hate wet trails down my back."
"Why don't you just cut it." The Indian boy moves behind Rei giving him a hand with braiding it.
The taller male scoffs. "And why don't you just take my arm with it. Thank you." He says once he's done.
Leaning over his friends shoulder, he whispers. "I don't know Rei, I think you'd look kinda sexy with short hair."
"Ooh, baby. Are you coming on to me?"
"Yeah, Ozuma? You coming on to my boyfriend over here?" Possessively, he puts an arm around Rei's other shoulder.
"Not at all." Slipping away from them, he leaves the gym.
"So what's with him?"
"Nothing. He's just glad that gym's over." And that he gets to see Zeo now. He smiles secretly.
"Well, whatever." Kissing Rei on the cheek, half on the mouth he smiles. "You can have the other half when you get back from geek school."
"You're too kind." Stuffing a foot into his shoe, he sighs. I hope I remembered to bring them. He was about to unzip his back pack to check but the bell rang. "I'm gonna be late."
"Are you gonna sit with this 'Kai' again?"
"Nope. I'm sitting with Brooklyn."
"Oh." He looks kind of down. "So who's Brooklyn?" He asks feeling completely out of the loop.
"See ya Ty'." He hurried from the locker room.
".....Yeah, bye....."
