Chapter 6.

As Rei crossed the street to the high school, he couldn't help but take notice to the little brunette beside him. Kenny seemed to be in his own little world just now, when for the past two months since the advanced classes had started the boy has been panic stricken and clinging to Rei any chance he could get. But today is different. Wonder why?

Nudging the boy with his hand, he spoke when the shorter male turned his head. "Hey. Thought maybe I could walk you to class today."

"Oh," the boy seemed to be a little down about that as he lowered his head with a blush on his cheeks. "I don't know Rei.... I mean you could but-..."

"But?" He cocked a brow.

"But I thought that...." he tapped his index finger tips together. "I thought that maybe I could just keep walking to class with Raul."

"Raul?!" A smirk configured itself across the boys thin, cream colored, lips. Now I get it, Kenny has a thing for Raul. That little sneak. no wonder he's been so concerned about what he looks like. The thought of the little nerd trying to put the moves on someone almost made Rei laugh out loud but instead he just said. "Good for you, Kenny, now you can get off of Tyson."

"Ha ha Rei. It isn't like that.... Raul... he's been really nice to me that's all."

"Uh-huh, and I suppose the five breath mints you ate were just by coincidence of pouring too many into your hand?" He held the door open for the smaller boy.

Kenny's blush deepened. "I already told you that I poured too many, and who brings tic-tacs you should really get gum, Rei."

"I'll remember that, the next time." Following his nerdy buddy inside, Rei scanned the halls for Kai. when he didn't see him, he smiled as Raul walked up. "Hahaha, here comes your boyfriend Kenny. Don't trip over your words too much." Patting him on the head, he waved a 'hello' to the red head as he walked by.

Raul grinned and waved in return. When he saw Kenny he held out a hand for the boy. "Hi Kenny," he began to steer the boy down the hall. "Did you bring an extra pen with you today, I kind of lost mine in my last class and I haven't been able to find it since."

"Oh! Aahahaha," he felt his breath shortening. "I-... yes! Yes of course I have one for you!"

Raul cocked a brow with a humored look on his face. "Why are you shouting, I'm right here?"

"Oh, I'm sorry!" The short boy laughed nervously again. "I just thought that it was noisy in here."

"Mmm... no the halls are pretty thin today."

Looking ahead of them, Kenny frowned. "I guess they are."

"The older kids are on a field trip today, this place is great with them gone."

Kenny merely laughed again. Rei shook his head in surprise of his nerdy friends shyness. How hard is it to talk to someone you like? He never found it hard to talk to Tyson, not ever once. He figured it was different in some people.

"Hi Rei." Came a monotone voice from behind him.

Turning, he blushed a second, mostly because he had jumped a bit when his name was called. "Hey Kai...."

The boy walked a bit past him to look at what had had the boys attention so thoroughly. "Hn? How can you be friends with that nerdy kid?" Turning to face him he adds. "It's beneath you."

Rei sighed. "Actually, we're not really friends. We're just friends by association." The two of them begin their walk to history class. "I hate that we have to come over at the same time. You should have seen him on the first day."

"Mm. And you weren't nervous?"

"Why would I be?"

Kai seemed to like that answer as he smirked in a knowing way about it. The walk to the classroom was quiet from there on, or at least Rei thought they were going to the classroom until Kai snagged him by the elbow and pulled him into a nearby restroom.

"Hey!" He protests until he was pressed against the cold tile wall. "What the hell are you doing?"

The stoic Russian walked as close to Rei as any eye doctor about to examine a patient. "Here." In his hand is what appears to be a card of some kind.

Looking down with as much space as he could get between them, he took it, opens it up and skims the Russians tiny writing. "What's this?"

The two silenced as a kid emerged from the stall at the far end of the bathroom, washed his hands, dried them then walked out.

Clearing his voice, he says. "Give it to Lee."

"Lee?"

Kai smiled as though just his brothers name was enough to get him by. "I'm having a party on Sunday, I want him to come."

"O..okay..."

"Good." Turning to leave, Kai adds over his shoulder. "You can come too, if you want to."

Blinking, he then grins brightly. "Uh, sure. I don't have anything planned."

"Just see that you give that to your brother."

"As soon as I see him, infact" Rei follows him out the door. 'He's coming to pick me up after school if you would rather give it to him yourse-.."

"No."

With that, the two of them walked quietly to class and luckily made it before the bell rang. The day seemed to lag on from that point. The teacher had told them that they were to write a two page report on current events by watching the news tonight, then they were to read it out loud to the class. Rei hates reading out loud, he always felt like his voice would crack at any minute. Kai had ditched Rei when the Chinese boy had told him that he wasn't having lunch with them and went off with that red haired, nightmare, Tala. It was for the best, Rei didn't think he was comfortable with how Kai was acting... so mysterious and needy from the guy he had first met, and what was the deal with him and his brother? Does he like him or something or does he just want status because he knows someone older and not just some one, Lee Kon.

"I wish you guys would back off already," said a familiar voice behind him.

Rei stopped in his tracks and turned around. It seemed that Garland and his brother Claud were harassing poor Brooklyn again. Shrugging Rei realized it couldn't be helped. Just as he was about to turn around he heard the two brothers laughing as they slammed the boy into the lockers. Stopping again, Rei watched.

"I don't have any lunch money today, remember? I told you that my mother packed my lunch when you asked me about it earlier." Brooklyn explained. Even though it was a distressing situation the boys dull flat voice never wavered.

"Well," says Claude. "I can't recall if we gave you any type of punishment for not bringing it anyway."

"Aside from your usual stuffing me in the locker routine?" He joked.

"Look Claude, he thinks he's funny."

"Maybe we should break his nose."

"No no, you don't wanna do that," he waved his hands before him, helplessly. "Someone might see you."

Pressing a hand to the side of Brooklyn's face, Garland asks. "Like who?"

Panicked, Rei started to turn but it was too late, Brooklyn had seen him. Smiling the boy called out. "Rei!?"

Garland and Claude turned around. Face drooping, Rei sighed and walked over to the three of them. The two blue haired 'retard' boys turn around, completely forgetting about their victim so they can focus on their new prey.

"Before you get any ideas, I wouldn't bother. I'm a second degree and I would rather not get in trouble with a school I don't even attend yet." Explained Rei. "So just leave Brooklyn alone and we can get on with our lives."

They both laugh in the same tone, low and 'sinister'. "Is that a threat?" Asks Claude, reaching out for Rei; he should have thought twice before doing so because the cat like boy side stepped it easily, snatching the taller male by the wrist and giving a hard squeeze as he twisted it behind his back. Claude cried out in pain. Garland wasn't gonna stand back and watch his brother get hurt, so moving in with a punch, Rei spins Claude like a dancer into the oncoming fist. Then letting go of his fist he sighs again at the sight of the two boys on the floor.

"Really now, that wasn't even hard." He egged them on. He didn't know why he was getting so angry all of a sudden, but at that moment he really felt the need to hurt the two of them, as badly as he could. "Stand up and try again. This time really come at me, if you wanna hurt me so badly."

"Fuck you!" Spat the older boy. "If my brothers wrist is broken, you're gonna be sorry." Scooping his less attractive side from the floor, Garland walked him to where Rei could only assume was the direction of the nurses office.

Looking after them, Rei turned away. "Idiots." Looking back at Brooklyn, he smiled. "Haha, you've gotta learn to stick up for yourself, otherwise, you'll just keep getting picked on."

The freaky red head nodded quickly. Rei began to walk back to the exit when a thought occurred to him. "Hey Brooklyn?"

"Huh?"

"How 'bout I have lunch with you today?" He suggests. "Incase those two come back, they'll think twice about it."

Smirking, Brooklyn was already starting for the cafeteria- after joining Rei in what felt like nearly at the hip, the two walked into the large room receiving an eyeful of stares. Mostly from Kai's table since he had eaten lunch with them since the first day. Yeah so he lied to Ozuma, he didn't want Tyson thinking that he was cheating on him. Rei would never do that! Especially for someone who wasn't interested in him. Breaking up over infatuation was pathetic.

"Let's sit over here." He points out a place after the cold front had moved past. He could hear Tala now, making fun of him because he chose to sit with the very unpopular Brooklyn. Wonderful. Is it possible for him to fuck up his reputation at high school anymore than he already has? Didn't think so, so he might as well just suck it up and sit with the strange boy.

The two took a seat and emptied their lunches onto the table. Brooklyn's lunch seemed self made rather than by his mother but it looked alright. The odd boy seemed to be eyeing Rei's lunch as well. Junpei made it for him. It was nothing special he thought, but Brooklyn seemed to think otherwise. The stare reminded him of his hungry little Tyson, who is waiting for him back at middle school, probably mad as all hell by now. Fuck.

"You can go if you want." Says Brooklyn. He says that he can go, but Rei can see that the boys face is clearly sad about it.

Smiling, he shakes his head. "No. I wanna be here. It's just that my boyfriend was expecting me to go back over to middle school and..." he laughed about it. "Feed him."

Chuckling, the red head picked up his banana and peeled back the skin. "You want half, I can never finish it myself." He offers.

"Sure." He took the piece, though, he didn't really want it. Taking a bite, he chewed it carefully as he thought over what the hell he planned to talk about with the weird kid. He knew nothing about him except for what Kenny told him, which wasn't much. Swallowing hard, he placed the banana onto a packet of dressing that he had. "So... what's it like coming here for a full semester? Do those two always pick on you?"

Brooklyn nursed his iced tea bottle between his hands; his face was twisted in concentration as though the question were a particularly hard one. "Well... you see... I'm always getting picked on by everybody,"

"Everybody? Why?"

Again, he seemed to hesitate. "Never mind, you'll probably think I'm a crack pot like everyone else. I'd rather we just drop-..."

Waving a hand as though he could knock away the boys doubts. "Come on, go ahead and try me."

"........." Turning his head he said in a low tone. "Do you... believe in mental abilities?"

Rei pursed his lips. "What do you mean like psychics?"

"Yeah! I mean, yes, exactly." He fidgets a moment before going on. "You see, I can see into the future."

The, generous for sitting with this weirdo, dark haired boy nods in thought then he looked as though he had been shocked by an eel all of a sudden. "You mean like you can read minds and stuff?" Rei shook his head in astonishment. "That's amazing!"

Feeling rather humbled, Brooklyn blushed. "Well, not exactly-.."

"What do you mean?"

"I can only see into the future."

Again, he nods then asks. "So what does that have to do with kids picking on you? You think they'd be flocking all over you to get their fortunes read or something."

From the side of his eye, Rei could see that half the room was again looking at the two and now beginning to talk. Not a good thing. Reaching for his wrist, Rei begins to snap his rubber band, hoping that it isn't too noticeable.

"At first they thought that I was lying about it, I did after all have no choice but to tell since the teacher took it upon himself to say, 'This boy is a prodigy class, he can read minds' and then he puts up his quota fingers." Shrugging, he closed his eyes and took a drink. "I've been picked on since, and then when I told them to stop... I accidentally revealed something about two people and they all got mad because, 'Hey that could have been me!' they thought."

"That sucks."

The two were quiet a moment as they ate their lunches. Rei finished the banana then opened his pre-made salad and dressing. Looking up at him, Brooklyn blushed a deeper shade of red; he had never had someone give him a compliment for being a freak. It was nice. Infact....

Tapping the table for his attention, he whispers. "You wanna know the dirty secrets everybodies hiding?"

That shocked Rei for a moment, but he shrugs his head to the side before nodding. Changing sides of the table, he leans in and whispers to him. If the two weren't looked at before they were sure to be stared at now, especially if it looked as though they were kissing on certain peoples angle of the cafeteria.

"See those two over there," he nods his head at a pair of students, a boy and a girl: the boy has white hair and very dark tan skin, with a distinctive mole on his face, while the girl looks to be his opposite with dark hair and pale skin but she too had a mole on her face.

"Uh-huh."

"They're known as King and Queen, but their real names are Laurali and Hibiki Takata. The twins run the accountant wing of the building and were considered valuable assets to the school when they got the budget evened out by thinking up some dumb fund raiser. It seems as though they never separate and you know what?" He paused for effect.

"What?" Rei whispered as well.

"The two of them are sleeping with each other."

The cat boys golden eyes nearly fell from his head hearing that bit of information. How could brother and sister, more so, twins, sleep together!? "Are you serious?"

Brooklyn nods. "Everytime their parents are gone and let me tell you, I get a little hot under the collar when I accidentally meet eyes with them, that's how it works you know."

"Your gift?"

"Mm." He nods. "Now see him over there," this time his nod goes to a boy sitting by his self and not eating. "The reason he's alone is because he can't speak. Everybody thinks he's in witness protection because he's so quiet but the truth is that he just doesn't know how to speak Japanese and nobody wants to be around a kid with a translator. But, it can't be helped because his parents forced him here." Twisting his lips a second, he continues. "I myself got transferred here from Venice."

"Italy?"

"Mmhmm. My last name is Naoe though because my mother is the Italian one and my father well, obviously."

"I have a little French in me, it's from my Great Grandparent's side."

"Cool."

"Ahaha," nudging Brooklyn on the arm, he turned his butt on the seat. "Can you do me?"

"Sure, but what would Tyson think?"

"Ha ha, I mean read my fortune."

"I know," he chuckled. Turning Rei's head a bit, he closed his eyes before opening them.

His crystal blue stared right into Rei's gold; it looked as though his pupils were shaking back and forth but so rapidly you really couldn't tell. Before Rei knew what happened he felt as though something were raking over the backs of his brain; he couldn't blink, he couldn't move, all he felt was that rushing sensation before he was hit with a down pour of memories until there was nothing left but bright white lights. Brooklyn's breathing was labored when he broke the contact with Rei. Rei on the other hand felt fine.

"What did you see?" He asked, rubbing the boys back to calm him down.

"I... I didn't know you kissed Kai," he laughed in a tone that sounded a bit nervous. "Lucky."

"Kai?" Rei turned his head to look at that very person whom is looking back at him. "Not me, maybe you were just thinking it."

"No, I saw the two of you at a party and you were kissing."

"A party?" He thought for a moment. "Oh! I know what you saw, Kai invited me and Lee to his place for a party on Sunday," his eyes widened in realization of what his new friend was saying. "Kai's gonna kiss me?"

"Yeah. Like I said, you're lucky, because he's a babe."

Looking at the Russian again, Rei smirked. "I guess so, but, I kinda already have a boyfriend."

"Tyson."

"Yeah, Tyson."

They were quiet a moment, Brooklyn seemed as though he were hiding something from Rei but the Chinese boy didn't really care either way, Brooklyn said he can only see into the future, so why worry that he saw something bad from his past. Taking the tension from the air, Rei slid his sandwich over to the half Italian male. "Help yourself, I have granola too if you like it."

"Thanks." Taking a half of the ham sandwich, he seemed satisfied with the taste. "Say, you wanna eat together tomorrow?"

Rei thought it over, then nods. "Yeah. I'd really like to."
