Chapter 7.

When school was over, Rei walked from the middle school at a slow pace. He wasn't sure if his brother was already outside waiting for him or not, but he had to wait for Ozuma and Tyson to come out too. One, to bring along with him and the other to say goodbye to. But they seemed to be lagging today. He hoped they weren't mad at him for not showing up for lunch like he'd said he would. But nah, it seemed like it would take a lot more than that for the two to hate him, much less not like him for a while.

"Rei!" The shorter of his two friends called.

Looking over his shoulder, he slowed his pace for him. "Hey Ozuma."

"Hey, -we going straight to your place? 'Cause I need to get my sleeping bag and stuff." He was already fishing through his book bag for, what Rei could only assume were, his cigarettes. Smiling once they were freed from their secret place, he taps one from it's package but doesn't light it just yet.

"Where's Tyson, do you know?"

"Naah, he's still back in health." Explained the, chain smoking- though he claims he's kicking the habit, shorter boy. "That's in the back of the building, we should just go, he'll catch up."

"Who'll catch up?!" He draped his arms over Rei's shoulders.

It took all of Rei's power not to knock the offending arms away; it was something that he often saw that jerk Tala doing to Bryan, it didn't fit well on his boyfriend.

"I'm sorry I didn't show up at lunch today."

Tyson waved a hand while falling into step with them. "Forget it, I brought money anyway."

A very, flashy and fast, red car sped up the street nearly taking out two j-walking teens in it's path. Music playing louder than needed for one person in a car, while the hood of the convertible has the top down.

"Lee's here." Rei said before seeing the driver.

He and Ozuma turned to the street waiting for the maniac driver to stop. When Lee pulled the car over, he smiled at his little brother. "Told you I'd be here by the time you got to the curb," he stated in triumph.

"Uh huh, come on 'Zuma." He climbed into the backseat.

Ozuma climbed in as well and Tyson just watched in confusion. The younger Kon dug the card from his pocket and shoved it to the front. "Here."

"What's this?" Lee asked looking it over. "Aaaww, are you to shy to talk to me directly so you wrote me a little note. That's so cute, Rei."

"That's not from me!" The less full of himself Kon protested. "It's an invite."

"From who?" He asked while looking it over.

"Can we stop at my house first, I have to get some things." Asks Ozuma. "And um, is it all right if I smoke in your car?"

Tyson made an angry hmph as he balled his fist up. "Uh-uh! How come you get to go?!"

Turning to look at the fuming mad Granger boy, Ozuma rolled his eyes. "I'm staying over at Rei's tonight since Mari' is having a slumber party."

"I wanna come too," he tried to open the car door, but Ozuma pried his hands away.

"You can't come, you're helping your Grandpa, remember?"

Crossing his arms with a powerful pout, he sighed. "Yeah, I remember. But it's still not fair, and when the heck did you ask him anyway?"

"Ha, you've gotta be kidding me." Lee balled up the card and tossed it to the ground. "You kiddies ready to go?"

"Yeah," looking to his moaping boyfriend, Rei tried not to sound too romantic about it because his brother is in the car and he did not wanna blow his cover. "Tyson, you can stay over any night. Maybe even tomorrow. I'm sure my uncle won't care. He likes you."

"Yeah but, you and Ozuma are gonna have all the fun."

A car honked and the person behind the wheel waved a hand at Lee. He glanced into the mirror with a sigh. "We've gotta go so these cry babies can get their kiddies, you coming or not?" He said to Tyson.

"Mmm, I guess not. But you better come tomorrow. I want a ride from Lee and every thing!"

"There's no school tomorrow." Lee informs.

"Monday, Ty'." Calls Rei as the car speeds off.

"Don't be jealous Tyson, how much fun can me and Rei have without you?!" Shouts Ozuma as loud as he can over the music.

Twenty minutes later. The two boys sit in Rei's room, same book in hand, flipping slowly through the pages. Ozuma sighed for the tenth time as he dropped the book onto his chest. "So what chapter are you on?" He asked his reading comrade.

"Six? What about you?"

"Six!? I can't barely get past chapter two!!" Flipping to where his friend is he pouts at the words. "Does it get any better by then?"

"Ha. It wishes. The only way this book will be better is if it ends at chapter seven."

Ozuma chuckled and returned his book to his view, though, it didn't take long before he dropped it again. "Let's do something else," he stands up from the bed pit walking over to Rei's stereo. Checking the cd compartment, there was nothing inside, so changing the radio's function to 'Radio' he settled for whatever the man hosting had to play. "Hope it's something good."

Sitting up, Rei smiles. "I love this song, turn it up."

Raising the volume, Ozuma returned to the bed beside Rei, who is humming along with the song. Ozuma listens to him a moment, then glances at the radio. "You know these words?"

"Some of them, I can speak enough english."

Smirking with an idea, Ozuma takes a highlighter from his back pack tossing it to his friend. "Rei! Rei! Rei!" He chants with a clap of his hands.

Rei looked at him as though he had lost his mind, but shaking it off, he joins in on the song. "I don't wanna take my clothes off, but I do. Ooh"

Ozuma laughed at his english voice, but snagged a mock microphone of his own and joined in. "I don't wanna take nobody on, less it's you."

"I don't wanna dance too hard, but this is a groove."

The both of them sang the next line in each others faces laughing afterward. "Well I'm hot, and I don't care who knows it."

Ozuma mumbled as Rei went on. "I got a job to do. Yees."

And at the top of there lungs they shouted the chorus. "Work it! Workin' up a black sweat, Iii'm workin', workin' up a black sweat!"

At some point during the boys horrible rendition of a Prince song, Lee opened his brothers bedroom door, standing in the door frame at a lean with a smirk on his face at their over dramatic movement to a song that didn't really need it.

Ozuma shouted over the music. "I don't know this part!" So he let Rei do the remaining singing.

"You can act hard if you want to this groove will make you sweet!" Taking hands they galloped a circle on the floor.

Lee covered his mouth to suppress his laughter so that the two could finish their performance and he could have a full arsenal to pummel them with. Big brothers gotta do it.

When the song was over the two boys fell back on the bed laughing. Clapping Lee entered the room shaking his head. "That was.... what was that- a seizure in slow motion." He laughed as the two of them recovered from singing and laughing and jumping around for all of three minutes.

"I'd like to see you do better," said Rei, the first to regain himself.

"I'd love to, but if the rest of your little karaoke night will be anything like this than I'll pass."

Gasping, Ozuma grabbed the pillow beside his head and hurled it in Lee's direction. "With your voice, we're the ones who should cover our ears."

"Not likely." He tossed the pillow back.

Grabbing the spare, Rei gave his brother a menacing look. "You shouldn't have given back your only means of protection, bro."

"Get him!"

The two boys chased after the eldest Kon with a pillow in hand, intent on knocking the stuffing out of him. They ran left, right, downstairs, and into bed rooms. Occasionally they would land a hit to the older boys backside or his shoulder but they couldn't get him cornered long enough for a proper beating.

As Lee cruised by the telephone on the hallway for the third time he stopped and backed up as it began to ring. Picking it up, he used his arm to ward off his brother and Ozuma's attacks. "Hello? Who?" Ducking, he answered the caller. "You're in luck, he's right here." Holding the phone out to him, he shrugs. "It's for you squirt."

"Who is it?" He takes the phone then holds it to his ear. "Hello?"

"It's me Rei, I'm just wondering where you've been all week." Miss Ito asks. "I was beginning to worry about you."

"What's to worry about?" Asks Rei casually. "I just didn't feel like I needed to come by. No big deal."

"It is a big deal Rei, because until we can work through what's bothering you, you might never come to understand it."

Rei was quiet for a long time. He didn't know what to say to that. He didn't want to say anything to that. But he had to tell her something. "Okay. Next Friday, I swear."

"How about Monday. It's urgent."

"Friday. Goodbye." He hangs up before hearing anything else.

"What was that about?" Asks his best friend.

Wetting his lips, he replies. "Nothing. We'd better get back to our homework."

"Homework? Oh man."

Rei laughed to that. "You've been hanging around Tyson too long."

"Yikes, don't say things like that." He teased.

Lee cocked a brow as the two returned to Rei's bedroom. His brother sure was a strange one. More so, he wondered what was up with him back at the store?

...... Flash back .........

The sleek convertible zipped down the road at a speed that would make passengers think they had to pay for it as though it were a carnival ride. The sharp turns, the nausea, it's like an amusement ride in every way except you can't shout for the person controlling the thing to stop it because you're gonna be sick.

Lowering the music, Lee glanced into the rear view mirror at his brothers, spiky haired friend. "Hey boy, is it okay with you if I stop at the market first? I have to pick something up."

Ozuma blinked like he needed a moment to understand it, or he was unsure that Lee were talking to him but he replied with- "I don't care,"

"Yeah, and me and Ozuma can get some stuff too."

"Aaand self picked snacks? Tyson's gonna be pissed." He flicked his lighter. "Lee, can I smoke in your car, or what?"

"No way! I can't have you dropping ashes back there." The car stopped at a light. "Hold it till we get home."

"I don't have to pee, I just wanna smoke... I'll be careful." Making his move as he spoke. "You could let me sit up front so I can use the ash tray?"

Rei rolled his eyes. "It's not like uncle Stan wouldn't buy you a new car anyway."

The older male seemed to be thinking it over, then he sighed as he gave in to the kid now riding 'shot gun'. "I could never say no to my brother, so-... I guess it's all right." The car moved a bit slower now since Lee didn't want the ashes blowing around and possibly burning a hair off somebody or a hole in the upholstery of the seats. Pulling to a stop in the parking lot of the nearest store, Lee climbs out of the car, closed the door after himself glancing back to spot the munchkins trailing him, murmuring each step of the way like a couple of children.

"We can watch an NC rated movie," says Ozuma, dropping his cigarette and stamping it out on the ground.

"And do karaoke!" Chimes Rei. "And eat ourselves sick!"

"Yeah!" Ozuma laughs like the idea was too fun. "And uhhh...." snapping his fingers searching for the word.

"I think you should do your homework first."

"Yeah right!" Ozuma scurried past the older male like a field mouse on the hunt for food. Passing through the electric doors, he waited for the two to catch up. "Let's go, time is wasting."

"He's excitable."

Rei smiled. "I guess so." Looking at his brother, he clears his throat to get his attention. "Lee?"

"Hm?"

Silencing, he looks at the street then back up at his brother. "....Why don't you wanna go to Kai's party?"

Lee looked taken aback by this. It certainly wasn't what he was waiting for his younger brother to say, and it surely didn't need the both of them to be alone for him to say it. "Uhh, because Kai's a little pest." He shrugged it off.

"Kai is!?"

They passed through the double doors to the waiting Ozuma and followed him, slowly, between the aisles. The shorter boy looked from this shelf and that for what he might want to snack on while at Rei's, leaving the two boys to speak amongst themselves.

"Are you sure about that?" Asked Rei in a hushed tone.

"Sure, I'm sure." He looked over a box of Bugs Bunny fruit snacks, he slips the box back onto the shelf. "He told me that we met before at a party or someplace and that I just forgot, but he'll do anything in his power to help me remember. Weirdo."

Rei frowned at that, "a party?" Loosing a bit of distance between them, Rei walked slowly after his friend and brother. "That sounds so familiar." He mentioned to no one.

"The weirdest part of all is that the guy thinks I'm gay. Where would he even get that idea?" Continues his brother. "I saw the kid in school when he was a freshman, that was one year.... and he's in love with me. I must have had twenty girlfriends as a senior."

"Yeah...." Rei bit his lip. Why would Kai think that he knew Lee from before? I'm pretty sure that when Lee was in his Junior year he never went any place special. He wrote to me about everything he was doing.

"Anyway, if I were you I wouldn't go either," Lee wrapped his arms around his brothers shoulders then rests his chin upon the top of his head. "With as cute as you are, the guy will probably be on you next."

"Doubt it, apparently he's too gone on you." Instantly Rei bit his tongue. Did I just admit that I was gay? No... I'm sure Lee would have said something if I did. We're just talking about Kai. But... Kai is gay, that's.... unexpected- good! But unexpected.

"Guys check it out, they have double chocolate Oreo's!" The chipper little male shouted from somewhere in the store.

"I was invited, though," Rei argued his case. "I have to go."

"Suit yourself, but don't say I didn't warn you." He kissed the top of his brothers head. "It's tough being popular and good looking." Patting his shoulder, he moved away to locate the lost Ozuma.

Why is my heart pounding so hard? Am I having a heart attack? Clutching his hand to his chest, he swallows a breath of air; kneeling, trembles break out in the boys body, running around inside of him like children let out for early recess. His vision blurred before coming back into a sharp focus.

"Rei did you find anything?!" Calls his friend.

I can't let them see me like this. Looking over his shoulder, he slinks away in attempts to hide behind one of the shelves or someplace. He couldn't imagine what the guys watching the security camera's were thinking right now. Yeah, we've got a code... whatever, let's get him!

Hugging himself in a ball on the floor, Rei reaches for the rubber band on his wrist and begins to snap it over and over until his breathing slows. "I'm ok..." he whispers over and over. "I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm ok..." As the whispering died down, Rei slowly rose from the floor. Just in time too as his brother and Ozuma turned the corner to the aisle he was in.

"Is this alright with you?" Ozuma shoved the bag near Rei's face.

Nodding, he rubbed his eyes, then looked at his brother. "Can I go sit in the car, I'm feeling a little tired."

"Yeah sure." Handing his brother the keys he adds. "Put the hood up that way the sun won't get on you."

"Thanks." He walked from the store knowing that the two had their eyes on him and knowing that his brother was watching especially hard, Rei tried to keep a good posture until he was completely out of view.

...... End flash back.......

Hearing the two boys talking as though they were the only people in the world, Lee shook off the weird feeling. "I'm sure it's nothing." He said to no one. "And if anything were wrong, he would tell me."
