Chapter~6: “I Would Give You Anything”

“...I see the world has folded in your heart
I feel the waves crash down inside

And they pull me under
I would give you anything you want
Well all I wanted
And all my dreams have fallen down
Crawling around somebody save me...”

Notes: Beyblade isn't mine. “You Wouldn't Know Love” isn't mine, “Save Me” is Remy Zero's and I still own only Leilani and myself. Maybe... Anyhow, no suing because you'd lose your time. On with the fic, which I have recently remembered is mine too! Yay! I own like 30 Word pages! And, to anyone who knows me, like my cousin, which I sort of didn't want to read my fic (yet I appreciate the fact that he cares at all), note the sarcasm just dripping from my words...

“I said `LET GO!' I'm NOT harassing anyone! Do you NOT get English or something? Let go! If you pull my hands then that WILL be sexual harassment, idiots!” Kai squirmed furiously as two cops tried to grab his hands, intent on taking him with them to their headquarters to judge his attitude. He could feel himself blushing madly, everyone was staring at the scandal he was making, but Leilani... He could see her through the crowds. She had stopped walking and seemed hesitant to turn around.
`Please, Leilani, notice what's happening. Please turn around,' while a part of Kai wanted Leilani to notice him, another dreaded her seeing him in such a state. He felt a strange sensation at the pit of his stomach, embarrassed of his physical state and afraid of Leilani's impression towards his actions. But, she had told him to do it, right? She had been the one that had asked for it. Yet, it was sort of degrading for him to have gotten so low. He tried to shake those thoughts away as he kept on fighting not to be left totally bare by the officers.

Leilani turned around completely; the crowds had ceased walking and were all looking at her and some figure that seemed to be squirming madly while cursing colorfully in English, Russian, and Japanese. But, she was totally oblivious to the stares she was receiving as she began to recognize in total shock what the figure was. Her breath caught in her throat as the slightly tanned silhouette was identified by her blurry memory. She felt dizzy, tears rising to her eyes, unsure if they were of joy, shock, sadness or so many more emotions.
“Kai!” she managed to choke out in a sob as she began to run towards the figure being held by the two older officers.
A pair of large, embarrassed, violet eyes jerked away quickly from where he was scowling at the cop to watch Leilani hopefully.
Kai was only a few yards away from her, but it felt like an eternity before she arrived to where he was struggling to be released, fighting back an intense blush as he scrabbled to cover himself with his hands.
Just then, Leilani became aware of Kai's state. There he was in all his naked glory, as red as a tomato, trying hard not to have his more... compromising parts seen.
“Please let him go,” Leilani begged the officers, giving them wide green eyes as she reached Kai and stood in front of him to cover the boy's front. The constables seemed not to comprehend the girl, but kept on telling her to move so they could take the blunette with them.
“Isn't there anyone with whom I can talk that knows English?” Leilani implored, knowing that the Italian she knew was simply incomprehensible. She wondered if Spanish would work. “Por, favor, dejelo ir.” There. Spanish, Russian, Japanese and English she COULD manage.
The older official seemed to comprehend perfectly and simply shook his head from side to side.
“No hay alguien con quien yo pueda hablar en Inglés?” Leilani kept on pleading, hoping to get her point through.
The elder man responded by saying, “en la comisaría,” while nodding. It seemed that his Spanish wasn't all that good, considering the way he pronounced the words with an unmistakable Italian accent. But that wasn't the matter at hand.
Leilani hadn't managed to get the police to let Kai go, it seemed that they were going to press charges, but at least she had found someone to whom she could talk that would understand her story. As the younger officer pulled out a pair of handcuffs, Leilani noted the dread etched all over Kai's usually stoic features. Quickly, she pulled Kai's scarf off and straightened it out. Wordlessly, she closed in on the blunette and wrapped the long, white fabric around his hips, leaving the boy's hands underneath to avoid seeing... that. Once the cloth was around the upper part of Kai's lap, he pulled his hands out from under it so Leilani could adjust it better. She tied it behind him, hugging him in the meanwhile, savoring the feel of his warm chest and steady heartbeat pressed against her ear.
She was aware of the people watching, but it didn't matter, Kai was with her now. She finished tying the knot at the small of Kai's back and looked up into his eyes. He looked rather ashamed, yet he seemed to be determined to hope for her to forgive him.
Hesitantly, and against the repulsed officers' musings, Leilani asked Kai in a soft voice, “did you just say... all those things?”
Kai's eyes widened uncharacteristically large and he nodded sharply. Instead of expressing himself with words, as he had noted were NOT at all his strong point, he bent slightly and pressed his lips to Leilani's open mouth.
She nearly jumped in shock at the public expression of affection, yet accepted all it implied.
It was the chastest of kisses, just assuring true endearment and tenderness. Their lips simply brushed lazily and gently against one another until Kai was abruptly pulled away from a rather reluctant Leilani by the younger one of the officers.
Leilani found it so movie-like and surreal. An image of one of those corny films in which the couples are pulled apart because of their social status hit her. But, of course, that just didn't apply in this situation. Kai was every bit as rich -if not scantly more- as she was. Weird situation though, but there wasn't much to do or say at the moment.
“Kai...” she began, unsure as to what she should do.
“Please get me some clothes and search for the police station later. I can wait, I just don't want this to happen again...” Kai said bashfully. That nearly made Leilani smirk. Kai never showed more emotion other than unwavering concentration, sullen irritation or basically no emotions at all. But in the pass of an hour, she had seen more emotions on his face than she had ever expected him to show.
She nodded and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek before running off to complete her mission.

Their hotel room was too far off to go spending her time in searching for clothes there. So, instead of using the poor-kid strategy, she walked straight into the first store she spotted and quickly began to pick out the closest clothes she had.

Kai watched the officer in charge of reconnaissance with all the annoyance he had been storing within. The older man was plump and watched him with a ridiculing grin. As if it weren't enough with the fact that he had been stored into one of those old-fashioned, barred cells with nothing but a worn-out scarf covering him and the shame of being seen totally naked by every person in Rome, including his unsure girlfriend, now he had to put up with a fat jerk.
The man had absolutely nothing to be smirking about, in Kai's opinion. Even naked and mocked as he was, the boy was in a much better position than the official was. The boy could show his chest off proudly, unlike the man that seemed to take fun in taunting the boy. `I swear, if it weren't for the fact that Leilani would be upset if she found out, I so would kick this guy's ass,' Kai thought bitterly in an intent to both find some patience to deal with the fat fool and to feed his rather downcast ego. The teenaged blunette scowled at the man hatefully, a seemingly ineffective death glare. `Let me be, you jackass,' he thought, not even bothering in expressing his aggravation with words as he waited for Leilani to return and for her to talk the man into letting him go.
It had been about an hour since he had parted ways with Leilani and he wondered with dread if she was going to take vengeance with him for their earlier fights by not returning. He immediately tried to shake that thought out of his head. Leilani wasn't like that. She could be annoying and as boisterous as Tyson and Daichi together, but she was NOT vindictive. She was much too submissive, in Kai's opinion. Sure, she was strong when she wanted or needed to be, but she was good at cross words, not actions.
Yet, the uncertainty brought to him by knowing how he had hurt her just kept on reeling the feeling in the pit of his stomach intensely.
To his mute surprise, Leilani sprang in quickly. Her cheeks were rosy and a few dark strands stuck to the sides of her face. She had been running. Kai nearly smirked as a thought came to him; `she probably got lost.' He could even imagine the girl running down street after street and then cussing when she only found herself reaching another crossroad. He noted gladly, even though he didn't express it, that Leilani brought a bag that seemed to have the name of an Italian shop marked in bold letters on the side of it.
She had stayed standing inert under the doorframe, the wooden structure still open behind her as she inspected the place. Kai saw her wrinkle her nose distastefully at the odor and sight of the officer in charge. Kai knew she wouldn't want to talk the man into withdrawing charges, but he was also aware that he wouldn't be able to convince the jerk on his own.
“Um, permiso?” she finally stated timidly, drawing the fat man's attention away from the emotionally tortured boy. Slowly, Leilani took a full step in and quietly closed the door behind her. She turned back to watch the officer with large and innocent green eyes.
Kai smirked.
He knew that she had turned to watch as she closed the door to will herself into putting on her most unsullied look. She had basically patented that manner by using it every time she wanted something.
Kai let his amused glance wander over to his cell's officer. The boy's stomach churned when he saw the unholy glee in the man's eyes at the sight of the young girl that waited for a reply. Kai could feel his cheeks burning in anger. He had always hated it when anyone dared give Leilani a glance. He was overly possessive, he knew, but no one gave them the right to drool over her. For Christ's sake she's a teenaged human being, not something in a butcher's shop window!
Yet, he had to maintain quiet to avoid further problems. He could deal with fatso later.
“Hablas en Inglés?” Leilani inquired softly, noticing the lack of response coming from her oggler.
The fat man nodded quickly as he leaned forward on his desk to support himself on his elbows so he could stare at the girl closer.
“Great,” Leilani stated with not as much joy as she would've given had it been another person. “That means that you're going to help me, right?” she asked with the sweetest and most child-like look she could give.
Again, the man nodded sharply, proud of himself for a moment in his life. “What may you want, girlie?” he asked with a horrible Italian accent slurring the language.
For a moment only perceptible to Kai and Leilani, the brunette flinched, repulsed at the amount of interest being put on her. She hated being the center of attention. And, as always, she wanted to hide behind her protector, Kai, in the way she had always done since as far as she could remember. She didn't want anyone else's fascination. Only Kai's.
For a long moment, she turned her head to the boy that sat idly in the cell. She hated attention, but it was Kai for whom she was doing this and she needed to help the boy in the same way he had been doing for her for so many years. “See that boy over there?” she asked, pointing at Kai's cell. “He's my boyfriend,” she stated simply.
Suddenly, fatso didn't look so pleased. “So?”
“Have you read what his charges were for?” she asked as she glanced at a neat stack of about three papers that lay on the man's desk.
“They were just pressed,” the man responded with a shrug. “There's no hurry.”
“You see, he was brought here for charges of, um... I think, sexual harassment and probably public indecency or something similar,” she began nervously, never forgetting to give her most innocent and pleasing smile. She needed to control her impulses of just running into a corner and hiding from the world's watchfulness.
“Then he deserves to be here,” the man stated simply.
“No!” Leilani stated much too quickly and with too much agitation. She paused to simmer down. “I mean, he doesn't deserve to be here.”
Fatso raised his eyebrows at that, although he probably was trying to just lift one. “Why is that?” he snorted.
“You see, it was sort of my idea and, I guess... it's a really long story,” Leilani stated wearily while lifting a slim hand to rub at the bridge of her nose. Why did it have to be so complicated?
Just to frustrate the timid teen a bit more, fatso said what was seen to come, yet despaired; “I've got all the time in the world.”
Leilani gave an exasperated sigh and said, “fine, but can I pass him these clothes first?”
“I'll have to check them before you do that,” fatso said, stretching a plump arm towards the girl.
Not wanting to have to pass it directly into the man's greasy hands, Leilani grabbed the bag from the bottom and held it so fatso could take the handles.
The obese man dug his hands roughly into the bag, pulling out the neatly folded clothes and waving the material to make sure there was nothing hidden between the plaits of new denim. After checking garment after garment, fatso seemed pleased (for God knows what reasons) to see that Leilani hadn't, in fact, tried any stunts. He returned the now rumpled, brown bag to the brunette and signaled to her to take it to Kai. She complied, flashing the man the sweetest smile she could before walking over to the cell.
Kai really didn't want to stand up and he could feel his cheeks burning yet again, as the younger girl approached him. He now, basically, had what he had fought for -Leilani- back, but he realized just how big a fool he had made of himself in front of the girl. Sure, it had been her idea, but he probably wasn't meant to go exactly by her words. She had told him to make something up, but he couldn't manage anything and, in the hurry to retrieve her affection, he resorted to his only option: her thoughts exactly.
That had worked out and he wasn't regretting ever doing it, but he still wasn't sure what Leilani could be musing about. He hadn't thought what she might conceive of his actions. He hadn't thought that maybe she wouldn't agree with his socially erratic behavior. After all, he had been butt naked walking around the city.
But, then again, that had been the entire point of it, right? He was supposed to bare himself, physically and emotionally to the world. Yet, now, nude and humiliated, he was having his own doubts regarding what he had done.
He wasn't going to get up. He didn't want Leilani to see him like that again, at least not during this situation.
“Kai, are you going to get this or not?” Leilani asked, urging him, yet seemingly nervous. She probably didn't want to see him like that under such scandalous circumstances either. Funny how similarly they thought at times.
“Leave it there and I'll get it,” Kai replied flatly as he shifted a bit more in his seat, trying to cover as much of himself as he could with the thin scarf. Poor thing was going to need a good wash later and Leilani would probably never want it again.
It seemed like someone had lifted a ton of weight off the brunette's chest and she gave Kai a sincere smile as she bent slightly to place the bag on the floor. Before turning around and letting fatso see her true expression, she made a small, affectionate gesture towards Kai, throwing a small kiss as she got back up. She put on the innocent mask she had found was required while straightening out her skirt unnecessarily. She took a few, deep breaths before she finally turned around to see fatso, her back to Kai.
“Then, now, I guess I'm gonna have to tell you the ENTIRE story?” Leilani asked, giving great emphasis to her words.
Fatso just nodded, flashing a glance at the boy in the cell behind Leilani as he got up from his seat to retrieve his clothes.
“Okay... My boyfriend and I have a kinda complicated relationship, so we fight most of the time...” She paused and wondered what she must say to win the man's sympathy, then remembered she had forgotten an important detail. “But, first, may I know if you are the official in charge here?” Leilani wondered why she had sounded dumb and remembered the fact that she knew squat about police, especially foreign ones.
Fatso's eyebrows narrowed and he shook his head mournfully.
What?! He had been acting so cocky and he wasn't even on a high rank?!
“Then, may I see one of your superiors?” she asked politely. She was sure Kai was smirking evilly at the official, twelve years with the teen and the face fatso made towards the cell were enough for Leilani to make it.
The older man disgruntedly got up and went to a back room, leaving Kai and Leilani alone in the room.
The brunette wondered nervously if Kai had gotten dressed yet or not. She hoped he was taking his time. She wasn't ready to talk. `Come on, come on, come on,' she found herself chanting in her mind, hoping the official would arrive once and for all.
She heard movement a few feet behind her, Kai's cell, of course. She heard how the worn out wooden boards of the small bench in the chamber creaked under the other teen's slight weight. He was dressed already, and, for all the love in the world, Leilani hoped he didn't feel like speaking.
The back door opened and the brunette nearly jumped joyfully at the welcoming sight of another man, much different to fatso. This one seemed about, probably, in his forties. He was intimidatingly tall, with a broad chin and piercing blue eyes. He reminded her of her father in some strange way.
“I was told someone wanted to speak to me?” he asked, his voice cold as he raised an eyebrow at the young girl that gave him a sweet smile. This man seemed to dominate English much better than the first.
“Yes. I wanted to discuss the possibility of withdrawing the charges placed on Kai Hiwatari,” Leilani stated, poised as ever.
“May I know why?” the man responded courteously as he sat down in the leather that chair fatso had been occupying just moments before. He took the small stack of papers that lay neatly there and began to scan them quickly as he heard the girl that stood across from him.
“Of course. You see, he is my boyfriend and what he did, well, it was sort of my idea,” she replied timidly.
“Oh?” the man responded, giving the teen a skeptical look. He let his eyes drift off and he gave the boy in the cell a quick view. He had seen the blunette when the youth had been taken in about an hour and a half before. Although the teenager wore a totally different attire to the one he was bearing now. Kai was now dressed in faded blue jeans, a simple, gray T-shirt and a pair of black converse® sneakers, unlike the outfit he had been wearing before.
The elder man knew what the teen's charges were for once he saw the boy's face and remembered.
“Well, he and I had had a fight because I say he doesn't express himself enough, which is true, he doesn't. I told him to do something romantic and yelled at him a few options, this one being the first I said,” Leilani replied. She seemed to be capturing the older official's attention with her sincere expressions of obvious exasperation.
Kai visibly flinched when Leilani mentioned the fact that she had suggested that as a first option, proving what the boy hadn't wanted to know. Leilani remembered how Kai had taken the easiest path by following exactly her words, not even bothering in even creating any other alternative.
“Hmm?”
“He didn't do what I said right after I had said it. He actually did after our SECOND fight because I was leaving to the airport to go to Japan and was going to break up for good.” Leilani gave a sigh and kept on going. “It really took him a lot of courage to do that and it really was my fault! Can't you please just let it pass? It was his first “crime” and I promise not to let him do it again!” she finished vehemently. She was making a fool of herself, but she had all the intentions of getting Kai out of this mess.
“Interesting,” the official stated, scratching pensively at the slight beard he had at the tip of his ample chin. He placed the papers he had been holding down on the table carefully. After staring at them, deep in thought, he lifted his gaze to watch the girl that was visibly nervous, fidgeting with the end of her long braid. “You know, I have a daughter about your age. You look a lot like her,” the man remarked as an afterthought. He tapped gently on the wooden table as he pondered silently on what he should do.
Leilani was trembling fiercely. She was uneasy and the official just kept on stalling.
Kai watched Leilani from where he sat and wondered if it was worth all the work she was taking. Sure, the charges weren't for something as simple and idiotic, as parking in a wrong spot, but it hadn't been as if he had killed someone. He hadn't even gotten close to people! The teen brooded silently just how much time they might keep him in there. After all, the small cell seemed more like a touristic attraction than a prison. Not only that, his record HAD been clean before this slight incident and he was still a minor. They probably would only make him pay some sort of fee and nothing else. Or they might make him stay there for the night or something. In the end, neither option required the effort Leilani was putting into getting him out of there.
“I guess that, considering Mr. Hiwatari has no previous charges, is a minor and I have your promise that he will not be doing any similarities, I can let this pass, only this one time,” the official finally decided. He gave Leilani the smallest of smiles and added, as he gave Kai a glance, “you didn't do wrong if you did this for such a nice girl. I hope you know how to take care of her.”
Kai gave a curt nod, his lips curling into an imitation of a grin.
“Oh thank you so very much!” Leilani squealed while jumping happily. It was nice to see there still existed people like her father. She missed him enormously. He had died about a year before, leaving her under her mother's care, definitely something Leilani did NOT like. Her mother had been the one that sent her to the abbey in the first place and they simply didn't get along. Her mother disapproved of Kai and Leilani refused to obey the woman in that. They were totally incompatible.
Shaking her head to get rid of the uncomfortable thoughts of her mother, Leilani was suddenly hit with the memory that she was now going to have to deal with Kai alone. She swallowed hard and finally became aware of the fact that the older man had gotten up from his chair and was unlocking the cell. Once the door was open, Kai got to his feet and walked out with his usual, cool demeanor, hands stuck deep into his pockets. At least he hadn't crossed his arms, Leilani figured, deciding that Kai's coldness was a good sign in some way.
“You're free to leave, but remember you won't have a second chance next time,” the man informed steadily.
Both teenagers nodded, although one brunette more energetically than the other.

A.N.: I liked this chapter only a little. I'm proud of the kiss scene, it's cute. I'm not proud though, of fatso and I'll give him for free to anyone who may possibly want him (and anyone who may not, too). The other cop is mine too, but I'm not really attached to him, either, though he reminds me a bit of Odin Lowe, from Gundam Wing's Episode Zero manga, so I'm okay with the guy. Tell me how badly you hate my characters at Sapphyre3@hotmail.com!
