"This is so boring..." A young man muttered. He brushed his crimson red hair out his amethyst colored eyes and sighed.
"Yeah it is Darryl." Another young man with a mini Afro stated. Darryl was a slender built young man, at the age of 15. His deep crimson hair was drawn into a thick and wide ponytail, which ended at around his lower back. He also possessed a multitude of bangs which all hung over his face, the tips covering the tips of his eyes. The majority of the strength he had was in his lower legs. Because he was in school, he wore gray jacket, which was unbuttoned despite the school rules, and a white-collar shirt, which was buttoned all the way up. He also wore matching gray pants.
"Well at least the school day is almost over, right Thomas?" Darryl said to his friend, starting a conversation while the teacher was lecturing. It didn't matter to them however, considering that they sat in the back of the room. Thomas had a more muscular build than Darryl. He didn't wear his gray shirt like Darryl did; he just kept it draped over his chair. His white-collar shirt wasn't buttoned either. Basically, Thomas broke the majority of the rules.
"You wanna ditch?" Thomas suggested to his friend.
"There is like five minutes of class left...its not really ditching." Darryl stated.
"Hey...hey! Thomas Mallory! Darryl Barnes! Cut the god damn malarkey!" The teacher shouted.
"...Ok let's ditch, Thomas." Darryl stated as he got up and grabbed his belongings.
"Right." Thomas said with a slight smile, grabbing his belongings as well.
"Hey, hey! Stop this tom foolery!" The teacher shouted at the duo, trying to keep them in the chair. The two simply pushed him out the way and opened the window.
"Hey! I'll give you boys one more chance to end this malarkey!" The teacher shouted once again.
"Chill out. You're so annoying; just learn to go with the flow of things. We'll be back next class, and all will be good." Darryl said as he hopped out the second story window, grabbing onto a nearby tree branch and landing safely on the ground.
"You know he's right." Thomas pointed out before standing on the ledge. "Loserrrrr..." Thomas taunted while making the L sign on his forehead with his right index finger and thumb. He then grinned, and gracefully fell backwards. As he fell headfirst to the ground, he used his feet to grab a branch and flipped to the ground, next to Darryl.
"Showoff..." Darryl muttered as he began to walk.
"Jealous." Thomas replied, catching up to his friend. Darryl then began thinking of when he met Thomas, five years ago. The reason they even met was because they both could sense each other's terrible burden. They could see the souls of the dearly departed. Since then, they could also see strange men in black kimonos. And even strange oversized monsters with huge mask. Darryl was snapped back into reality when he ran into a person on the street.
"Ow damn it...oh. Sorry dude." Darryl stated, rubbing his nose. The guy he had run into had long, raven hair. He had a few bangs covering his forehead.
"It's cool." He answered.
"Cool, uh...what's your name?" Thomas asked.
"Mare, don't forget it. I'm 17 years old by the way." He stated.
"Well I'm Thomas. And not that I asked for your age, but I'm 16." He replied, putting his hands into his pockets.
"Yeah and I'm Darryl, 15 years old." Darryl stated.
"Darryl? Thomas? Yo, what kinda Japanese names are those?" Mare questioned.
"Well we're American..." Darryl muttered.
"Naw, Naw. I'ma give you some nicknames. Darryl...your hadeshonen. And Thomas you're...mesuinushonen." Mare stated, earning a stare from Thomas and Darryl.
"We know Japanese dumbass, you called us gay boy and bitch boy." Thomas said with anger.
"Ok ok ok fine! Baka tora and Baka shishi! Happy?" Mare quickly blurted out after noticing Darryl and Thomas approaching him with obvious anger.
"Now that's better." Darryl said.
The trio began to walk around their town. "We need to change from these school clothes." Thomas pointed out. Darryl nodded.
"What about there. Ookami no houkou." Mare pointed out.
"Wolf's howl? Isn't that a bar or something?" Darryl questioned.
"Who cares, the owner used to go to our school so I hear. Let's just go in and ask to change, maybe get a quick drink, and go." Thomas muttered as he began to enter the bar.
"Ugh...” Darryl muttered, entering the bar as well. Mare simply followed behind. As soon as they entered the bar, the owner hopped over the counter and began to approach them.
"Hey what are you doing? No babies allowed." The owner quickly said. The bartender had shoulder length, light purple hair. Her eyes, like Darryl's, were a deep amethyst color. Her shirt was a navy blue color, complete with a collar. However, she wore this shirt with most of the top buttons unbuttoned. She also wore a black choker around her neck. Finally she wore matching pants.
"We just need to use the bathroom." Darryl stated, pointed to their change of clothes.
"That's for paying customers, which you obviously can't do considering you're below the drinking age." She quickly stated, pointed them back out the bar.
"Come out, cut as a break. You used to go to our school!" Thomas exclaimed, trying to get past. She pushed him away.
"I knew that's why your uniforms looked familiar. But still, you can't come in." The woman said once again. Darryl took a close look at her. "If you're checking me out..." She began before Darryl exclaimed, "Eriko? That you?"
She looked up at this point. "Yeah...that's me..." She muttered, taking a look at the two who were trying to get in her bar. "Oh! You two were the American exchange students. Um...Darryl and Thomas right? Yeah I had to show you guys around the first day you went to the school." Eriko stated with sudden realization.
"So you should just do us a favor and let us in." Thomas quickly said, once again trying to enter the pub.
"I said no damn it! Now go!" Eriko shouted.
"Um...yeah just totally ignore me." Mare muttered in annoyance.
"Oh, Eriko, this is Mare." Darryl said, introducing their new friend.
"Sup Eriko." Mare added on.
"It's Ookami to you." Eriko told him before turning to leave the trio and go back into the bar.
"Hey, we're going to the movies soon. Wanna join?" Mare offered.
"We are?" Darryl and Thomas said in unison.
"Um...no." Eriko quickly stated.
"Come 'on. We'll pay for you." Mare persisted.
"WE WILL?" Darryl and Thomas shouted in unison.
"Hm.Fine, after work. Meet me by the movies. Now get out of here, little bastards." Eriko quickly stated while pushing the trio away from the door and slamming it shut.
"Let's go get the tickets. By the time we do, we can walk back here and meet Eriko halfway. Come on baka tora and baka shishi." Mare suggested as he walked slightly ahead of his two new friends.
"Forget it; let's just wear the damn clothes and go." Darryl muttered as he and Thomas caught up.
"What kind of mission is this...all I'm doing is watching over this town. There's not even any hollow. Man this sucks! My first mission ever and its medial work." A young man stated. He had light brown hair, which slightly hung over on his right side. His eyes also matched his hair, being a light shade of brown. He also wore a pure black kimono. On his back was a huge sword, kept in a sheath.
Suddenly he felt his entire body pulsate. "Such an intense level of spirit pressure. And it's coming from all around the city. Some are humans...but some ...no. An outbreak of hollows this big? There's no way I can fight all those off. I just learned to activate my shikai yesterday! Damn it, I can't show fear. Some of the other intense spirit pressure I sensed is in the line of danger!" Nick exclaimed, jumping off the rooftop he was standing on, and drifting to the floor. He then took off in a mad sprint.
"Good thing these humans can't see me. Someone running around with a huge sword and dressed like this? They'd think I was a psychopath..." Nick muttered under his breath as he ran past the swarm of high scholars, unaware of the events that were about to unfold. The events that would change the life of so many...and ironically, end the lives of some as well.
Eriko closed up her bar, and placed a sign that said, “Go away" on it. She then locked up the door and began to walk down the street, towards the movie theaters. "Meh...this is stupid...I don't even know what movie we're going to go see...I shoulda said no. I don't even know that Mare guy...ah well, not like I had anything better to do." Eriko muttered under her breath as she walked. A young girl floated next to her and began to cry.
"I can't find my mommyyyyy!!!" She exclaimed.
Eriko turned to the young girl and said in a soft voice "She's passed on happily. She's in a better place now. Come to terms and pass on as well. Then you can be with your mother forever." The young girl simply smiled as her body began to fade away. "Ever since I could see spirits, I was always bugged by kids with no parents. This is stupid. I can't be the only one who can see spirits." She muttered as she walked down the street. Suddenly her body pulsated and she had a look of nervousness on her face. "I have a bad feeling...something malevolent is coming..." She muttered as she began to quicken her pace, in order to meet up with her friends.
"Hurry up!" Mare shouted, holding four tickets in his hands.
"Why are you in such a rush...?” Darryl muttered his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah." Thomas muttered as well. Mare simply ignored them and kept walking. Suddenly, the trio felt their bodies pulsate due to the intense level of incoming spirit pressure.
"Did you guys..." Darryl began before being cut off by Mare.
"Yeah I felt it. So I'm guessing you can see spirits too." Mare questioned the two. They simply nodded, and the trio began jogging, which quickly turned to a sprint.
"Why are we sprinting TOWARD the sensation?" Darryl questioned.
"Eriko's bar is in this direction. She's coming here straight from work. We gotta protect her." Mare exclaimed, moving quickly. Darryl and Thomas looked at each other and nodded, speeding up to the point where Darryl was in front, followed by Thomas, and Mare slightly behind Thomas. Due to the speed they were traveling, along with Eriko's speed walking, they met up rather quickly. However, when they didn't have time to ask any questions, as a rip in the very air formed. A huge creature wearing an oddly shaped mask emerged from said hole. While the group was in awe, another creature began to emerge. And another, and another, and another until it was at the point where there were so many creatures that it wasn't countable.
