A/N: This is some sort of AU because I added my own OC and hopefully it's not too mary-sue(ish), though I'm pretty sure I do not look or act or even think (or squeal) like the OC, in other word, it's not my self-insert. And OC pairing is going to happen here sooner or later so those who don't like this kind of story (cheap material) DO NOT READ!

A/N: This takes place when Urahara Kisuke is still in Soul Society and acted as the 12th Squad Captain. His vice captain is Kurotsuchi Mayuri. My OC is one of shinigami that serve under Urahara. BTW, maybe there would be implied yaoi.

Pairings: Urahara + OC1 (Akiko), Urahara + OC2 (Shiho), Urahara x Yoruichi, Urahara + Mayuri

Chapter 2:

A young girl is walking down the hall. She looks around as if looking for someone. “Taicho! Urahara-taicho!” Akiko called out. “Damn it! Where is that person hiding now? He has not finished with the paper work required for today meeting…” She looks upset. “Taicho!”

Meanwhile, somewhere around…

Urahara, Kyouroku and Isshin are lying on the rooftop of some building in Seiretei. They have been drinking too much last night. The three captain decided to stay there, feeling too lazy to go back to their each headquarter for fear meeting with their each persistent subordinate who keep pushing them to do paper work.

Kyouroku open one eye. “Heh, Kisuke, look like your favorite subordinate is looking for you…”

Urahara chuckles. “Let her wonder some more…”

Kyouroku chuckles. “You're quite mean, Ki-chan…”

“I could say the same about you and your pretty Nanao-chan…” Urahara teased.

Kyouroku turns his attention toward the still-sleeping-and-snoring Isshin. “Hey, sleepyhead, wake up!”

“Five more minutes, Mayura-chan…” whisper Isshin.

Kyouroku and Urahara laughs.

On the other hand…

“Taicho! You better get your ass here right this instant!” Akiko yelled.

“Ara, Yuuki-san, are you looking for Urahara-taicho?” Ise Nanao asked.

Akiko quickly bows politely. “Ah, Ise-fukutaicho, good morning! Are you looking for Kyouroku-taichou?”

“Ah…” Nanao fix her glasses. “He must be hanging around with Kurosaki-taichou and your taichou… They seem to hide their reiatsu so that we can't find them…” She looks annoyed.

Akiko cross her arms and pouts. “No wonder I couldn't find him anywhere. Hmm, they must be watching us somewhere and laughing because they can continue to slack off!”

Nanao nods in agreement.

“Kurosaki-taicho! Kurosaki-taicho! Where are you?” A young man called out in obvious panic. He is the fourth seat officer of 10th squad; Hayami Yahiko. He is one of Kurosaki-taicho's two favorite subordinates. (The first one is obviously Daidouji Mayura.)

Akiko sighs. “This time is Hiko-kun, huh? Where did Mayura-chan anyway?”

Nanao shrugs.

Yahiko saw the girls. “Did you see my taicho?” he asked with pitiful eyes.

Both Akiko and Nanao shake their head.

Yahiko looks stumps. “What am I going to do? Genryuusai-sama is going to be upset with taicho if he does not do the paperwork…”

“Same here~~!” Akiko said a bit too cheerful. “Don't worry, Hiko-kun, eventually we'll find them and then we could go and punish them…”

“Eh~~? I w-wouldn't dare to do that!” Yahiko stammered cutely.

Nanao sighs. “Why is it that the three of us got stuck together each time to search for our slacking captain?”

“Yeah, it's annoying but…” Akiko grins mischievously. “…still we gotta admit it is what makes our days interesting to begin with…”

“Oh, Yuuki-san, you really enjoy dragging your taicho to do some paperwork huh?” Nanao teased.

“I could say the same about you. You enjoy giving Kyouroku-taicho your famous bonk, eh?” Akiko teased back.

“I so do not! At this rate, I might ask to be transfer to different squad…” Nanao stubbornly said.

Akiko grins, knowing that it is just a bluff.

“Why are you two still chatting here? We gotta find our taicho!” Yahiko freaks.

The three young shinigami resumes calling out each of their taicho's name.

After a while…

Urahara chuckles. “Akiko-chan must be pretty piss by now…”

“Taicho!!” Akiko yelled from under the roof.

Urahara sweatdrop. “Eto, Akiko-chan…” He grins sheepishly. “I've been found out apparently…”

“Get down this instant!” Akiko yelled. “You have to g…”

“Good morning to you too, Akiko-chan~~!” Urahara greeted cheerfully. He completely ignores his subordinate's harsh words, instead he kept replying to her playfully.

Kyouroku sighs. “I wish Nanao-chan would find me too and…”

“Gave you the first bonk for today?” cut Isshin who is now fully awake.

Kyouroku glares at Isshin.

Isshin ignores him and turn to Urahara. “Oi, Urahara! Shut your subordinate! She has such a loud mouth!”

“Ah, you're just upset cuz I win today bet…” Urahara grins as he folded open his fan. “My subordinate is the first one to find us today… Now, paid up, paid up you two!”

“Taicho!” Akiko is now standing behind Urahara with a scary expression. “You taicho are making a bet about us your subordinates who are concern with your duty?!”

Urahara look behind him slowly as if behind him is a girl from hell. “Err, sorry?” Luckily for him at the time, Nanao and Yahiko arrive so he's spared from Akiko's wrath.

“Taicho!” Nanao landed gracefully on the roof near her taicho. “Please return to headquarter now!”

“Nanao-chan, you come! Give me some kiss as wake-up call!” Kyouroku jumps in happiness and goes to hug her and received his first bonk for today. “Nanao-chan, you're mean…”

“Do not make fun of me!” Nanao raised her fist as a veinmark appeared on her forehead. “And you are already wake up!”

Urahara laughs but stops when Akiko glares at him.

“Kurosaki-taicho!” Yahiko wailed in tears. “I found you at least! Please return with me!”

Isshin stares at his subordinate. His tears amuse him, though he does not show it. He keeps on his lazy attitude face. “Calm down, Yahiko, why are you crying? It's not even the end of the world…”

“But, taicho…” Yahiko cries. “Daidouji-san is waiting for you back in headquarter. She is very upset…”

“Then why doesn't she come herself?” Isshin asked.

“Well…” Yahiko look troubled. “Daidouji-san is a bit pre-occupied by the paperwork you left behind. Fukutaicho asked her to finish some of it.”

For a while, the three poor subordinates spent at least 14 minutes to convince their taicho to go back to their respective headquarters. The first one to leave is Kyouroku and Nanao, followed by the rest.

12th squad headquarter

“Mou, all you have to do is checking the paperwork and sign it. How hard it can be?” complained Akiko as she keep watch on her taicho in his office.

Urahara sighs. “I don't see why you have to be upset about it. Eventually I will sign it…”

“But these paperwork are need for today meeting or have you forgotten about that too?” Akiko asked. “Mou, taicho, at this rate, you will be punish by Genryuusai-sama again.”

“You're worrying too much, Akiko-chan, it will ruin your good look.” Urahara teased.

Akiko find herself blushes. She quickly looks away so that Urahara will not see her red face.

Urahara grins knowingly.

“Stop saying random thing like that, taicho and do your paperwork!” Akiko suddenly yelled.

Urahara pretend to be scare. “Yes, mam…” He goes to check the amount of paperwork on his desk.

Suddenly they heard knocking on the door.

“Come in.” Urahara said.

Kurotsuchi Mayuri entered the room, bearing a seemingly important research report. “Taicho…” He stops when he saw Akiko. He regards her with a cold stare.

Akiko catch the drift. “Excuse myself, taicho…” She bows then left the room quickly.

“Here is my proposal for a new research, taicho. Please take a look.” Mayuri said as he walks forward and put the proposal report on Urahara's desk.

Instead of checking Mayuri's report, Urahara pulled out a chocolate from his drawer and start eating it messily. “Hmm, this is delicious. Want a bite, Mayu-chan?”

Mayuri look annoyed and shook his head. “No, sir.”

“Akiko-chan does not allow me to eat before I finished checking the paperwork… She is so mean… Luckily you come, Mayu-chan, otherwise I would not be able to eat…” Urahara said as he munched on his chocolate.

Mayuri resist the urge to roll his eyes and left the room, instead he stand there patiently till Urahara check on his proposal report.

Finally, Urahara finished eating and then he pick up Mayuri's proposal report. He read it while licking some of the chocolate on his fingers.

For some reason, Urahara's movement bothers Mayuri. He tries to keep his cool. To his dismay, Urahara pointed on some small mistake he made in the proposal report that seem to be unrealized by him.

Urahara notice the look of shame and defeat on Mayuri's face. He sighs and let out encouraging smile. “Don't beat yourself, Mayu-chan, anyone can make mistake and we learn from that mistake.”

Reluctantly, with shame, Mayuri left the room to correct his proposal report. He was so sure that he does not make mistake before as he marched toward his taicho's office.

In the afternoon, on lunch break, Akiko join with her fellow colleagues, Keiko and Amika. They go to their usual hangout teashop.

Akiko sighs as she drinks her tea absentmindedly.

Keiko and Amika who notice the strangeness in Akiko asked her what is wrong.

“I think Kurotsuchi-fukutaicho hates me…” Akiko said.

“And you just realize this just now?” Keiko asked.

Akiko stares at her friends. “What do you mean? What did I do wrong? He kept giving me this nasty look. I only saw him give that kind of look to…” She thought for a while then shrugged. “…pretty much to everyone…”

“Yup, we should have get used to it right? It's such a pity…and he's very handsome too but so mean…” Keiko said sadly.

“Maybe he's jealous because you're quite close with our taicho.” Amika said.

“Why would he be jealous? There is nothing going on between me and taicho…” Akiko said.

Keiko and Amika exchanged a look then glance at Akiko meaningful.

“What?” Akiko asked, not understanding.

“Don't you know? There is a rumor floating around that you are dating our taicho…” Keiko said.

Akiko laughs. “That is ridiculous…”

“Is it? You seem to get special attention from taicho. I mean he allow you to behave disrespectful toward him…” Keiko said.

“I'm not being disrespectful! I am just looking out for our taicho. If no one goes and tries to discipline him, the 12th squad will crumble…” Akiko defend herself. “Wouldn't that be Miyano-san and our very own fukutaicho who have special attention from taicho?”

“Speaking of our fukutaicho,” Amika said. “Is it true that he prefer men than women?”

“Hah, that would explain why he is jealous with Akiko…” Keiko said.

Akiko spit out her tea and start to cough violently. “W-what? You girls actually thought that our fukutaicho is a gay? Where the hell did you get that idea?”

“Have you ever seen him with girl?” Keiko asked.

“Well, no, but that does not mean…” Akiko trailed. “You think our fukutaicho likes our taicho?”

Keiko shrugged. “Well, there is that rumor about our taicho that he is a bisexual…”

“Well, I tell you that rumor is wrong. Our taicho just likes to play around and he definitely normal.” Akiko said with determination. “I see him with girls before…” In addition, her heart aches in strange way. “Plus, there is also Shihouin-taicho…”

“Ah…” Amika clap her hand together. “The rumor that they are lover…They are so for each other. I like it when I saw the two together; it looks like they are having so much fun.”

Akiko smile solemnly.

The girls then start to talk about the bazaar event for next Saturday excitedly.

One day, Kurotsuchi Mayuri assigned Akiko to join a group of shinigami to retrieve information about a new hollow that appear in the human world and has killed many shinigami.

“I'm nervous…” Akiko replied.

Keiko grins. “That is because it has been quite a long time since the last time you go into mission with us. Do not worry. Our objective is to observe and obtain information about the new hollow…”

“I have a bad feeling about this…” Akiko muttered.

And turn out Akiko is right. The hollow seem to know about their arrival and start attacking them, catching them by surprise. To everyone's horror, the hollow has the ability to multiple itself when a part of his body is cut. Soon, the team were cornered and slaughtered.

There are only five of them left, which include Akiko, Keiko and three others (a girl called Saya and two men, Takashi and Tetsu). They are hiding from the amount of hollow chasing them around.

Akiko winced in pain as Saya wrapped bandage around her wounded arms.

“What are we going to do now?” Saya asked the others. She looks so scares.

Takashi curse silently as he watches for any hollows' sign that might be approaching them. “Everyone dies just like that… Damn, that hollow!”

Tetsu wiped the blood on his forehead. “We can't defeat this hollow. We need backup from Soul Society…”

“I know.” Keiko looks upset. “But our spirit communicator has been destroyed during the fight… One of us should go to Soul Society and ask for the backup team…while the others must distract the hollow from noticing…” She looks straight to Akiko. “Can you go and report our situation to taicho?”

“No.” Akiko said firmly. “I'm not leaving you… I can still fight… Let Saya-chan go!”

“Heh, b-but…” Saya looks troubled. She felt bad to leave behind her friends.

Tetsu stares at Saya then to the others. “I think she should go…”

“M-me?” Saya asked. “But Tetsu-kun, you're the one who is wounded badly.”

Tetsu shook his head. “Because I'm wounded, I can't go. It will just slow me down. You, on the other hand, are still not injured so…”

“Well we better decide quickly because they seem to have notice our hiding place…” Takashi said with obvious tense.

“WHERE ARE YOU, SHINIGAMI-TACHI?! COME OUT, COME OUT, WHEREVER YOU ARE…” The hollow called out then laughs menacingly.

“We will distract them and when you see the chance, run as fast as you can to the gate!” Keiko said to Saya.

Saya nods. “Be careful, everyone!”

Keiko grins. “Just be hurry and save us, ok?” Then she looks serious. “Ready, everyone? Takashi, you go first…”

Soul Society

Saya quickly makes her way toward Seireitei.Upon rounding a corner, she bumped rather forcibly into someone and almost falling but two big arms reached out to brace her before she could.

“Ah, sorry, sorry! You okay there, sweetheart?”

Saya looked up and surprise to see Kurosaki Isshin. “K-kurosaki-taicho!! I'm so sorry!”

Isshin grinned down at her. “Heh, you're cute…” His grin turns wider when he saw her blush. Then he frowned when he smell blood on her. “Yo, I didn't hurt you, did I?”

Saya is about to answer when she heard Urahara's voice.

“Ara, you're Saya-chan, are you not?” come Urahara's cheery voice.

“Taicho!” Saya yelled, rather grateful. “Please help everyone! They are in danger!”

Urahara put a reassuring hand on both of the younger girl's shoulders. “Calm down, Saya-chan. What do you mean?”

“I was about to report to headquarter to ask for backup. A new hollow Kurotsuchi-fukutaicho assigned us to observe had caught my team by surprise and everyone are either dead or injured.” Saya said with tears filled eyes. “Akiko-san and the others sent me to call the backup team since our spirit communicator were destroyed during the fight…”

At the mention of `Akiko', Urahara visibly winced but no one notice.

“A new hollow? This should be interesting…” Isshin said. “Shall we go, Urahara?”

“Ah, we should go…” Urahara nods. He looks serious.

When Urahara and Isshin arrived at the scene, the rest of the shinigami are fighting for their life. Saya had filled them in about the hollows' ability to multiply itself and both are deeply intrigued.

Urahara and Isshin have managed to find the hollows' weak point thus unable them to regenerate or multiply itself anymore.

Not long after that, a team from fourth squad comes to take the wounded and some to pick up the corpse of the deceased shinigami.

Although Urahara does not say anything, it is obvious that he is upset after all it was his squad members who were killed and wounded.

Urahara sat alone on the edge of a cliff outside Seireitei. He looks a bit troubled.

Yoruichi approaches Urahara from behind and then settle down beside him.

Urahara's eyes pierce her for just a moment but that's enough for them to share unspoken words.

“You shouldn't beat yourself over their death…” Yoruichi said to comfort her silent companion. “After all, it was in their job-description that they might die during a dangerous mission…”

Urahara smile solemnly.
