*Three months Later*
Kyoko’s whole body glowed with happiness. Three months mentoring by Captain Matsumoto and Kyoko was asked to take the entrance exam into the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. Today she would be getting her results to see if she received an officer’s rank in one of the squads. Captain Matsumoto was sitting on the sofa nearby, smiling absently as she gazed out the window.
Jolted out of her thoughts by a knock on the door, Captain Matsumoto called for them to enter. Two soul reapers entered and handed the Captain a scroll. They them bowed and left, closing the shoji after them. They had never said a word.
The Captain then read the scroll thoroughly and then handed it over to Kyoko. By that time Kyoko was shaking so badly from nervousness that she almost dropped the scroll. ‘Maybe they changed their minds. Maybe I wasn’t good enough for the squads. Or best case scenario, maybe I got fifth seat on some squad. Yeah, maybe,’ she thought before she finally read the scroll.
When Kyoko was done, the scroll rolled gently through her nerveless fingers and across the floor. Happiness and numb disbelief made her heart beat double time. ‘Did she really just read that?’
“Isn’t it great kiddo?” Captain Matsumoto said excitedly, “You’ve been named Third seat of Squad Ten. That’s the highest you can be appointed, as the Captain of any squad has the right to choose his or her lieutenant. Did you know that I was lieutenant for Captain Hitsugaya before I became Captain of Squad Three?”
“Wow. This is really happening,” Kyoko said dazedly as Captain Matsumoto kept chattering in the background.
