Azuma and Kiyoshi flash stepped through the city on the building rooftops. The citizens below were unaware of their presence because of the speed they were going. As they raced along searching for hollow to battle, they paused as their bodies pulsated. Kiyoshi turned to Azuma and asked, “You feel that?”
She nodded her head to him in response, a huge grin formed on her face. “It doesn't feel like a hollow, it's pure.”
“More like a shinigami.” Kiyoshi added.
Few Miles Off
Just a few miles away, a young man appearing in his late teens stood atop a building, his black kimono flowed through the wind along with his short brown hair. His left hand rested on the sheathe of his zanpaku-to. “First day on the job, everything seems to be in order. Good.”
He scanned the area searching for anything out of the ordinary when two large spirit pressures hit him like boulders. He froze for a moment under the pressure, amazed by its size. “What…is this reiatsu? It's so powerful, and coming this way.” He placed his other hand on the sword's hilt, awaiting. Moments later, Kiyoshi appeared behind him while Azuma was in front. The shinigami glared at Azuma then shifted his head slightly to look at Kiyoshi. He took note of the swords that they carried.
“I take it that you two are shinigami.” he said.
“Wrong, we're not. Don't ever mistake us for those pathetic creatures again you scum.” Azuma had a very angered expression on her face. She personally couldn't stand soul reapers because of a bad experience.
“If you are not shinigami then why do you carry a zanpaku-to?” he asked curiously.
“Because we used to be.” stated Kiyoshi.
“Used to be?”
“Yea ya see we're beyond those creatures. We're something a lot more powerful…and dangerous.” Azuma said with a mischievous smile. Kiyoshi walked over and stood next to his friend.
“Allow me to introduce ourselves. My name is Kiyoshi Hinamoru and this is Azuma Takanawa. You see my soul reaping friend, we're what you call….Vizards.”
Upon hearing the word vizard, the young soul reaper's face turned into an expression of complete shock. He thought back to earlier before he came to the real world. His captain, Toshiro Hitsugaya, explained to him what the vizards actually were and to stay away from them at all cost. But this shinigami was very headstrong and arrogant. Snapping back to reality, he drew his blade and pointed it towards them both.
“I am Hiroshi Otaki, 3rd seat of squad 10. You criminals must be brought to justice for your actions.” he said in a stern voice.
“Criminals? We ain't did anything wrong!” shouted Azuma.
“You have committed the ultimate taboo and for that, you must be punished.”
Kiyoshi shifted his eyes towards Azuma. Upon seeing here enraged face he smiled slightly and shook his head. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small handheld videogame. He cut on the power and began playing it. Without looking up from the screen he said to Hiroshi, “Defend yourself.” With that said, Azuma yelled as she charged towards the shinigami with her sword drawn. Hiroshi quickly put up his own sword to block the oncoming attack. She bashed at him each time coming closer and closer to cutting him. Hiroshi flipped backwards avoiding a potentially fatal blow.
“Looks like you mean business. Guess I have to step it up.” He held out his zanpaku-to and gave an arrogant smirk. “I will defeat you, vizard.” He swung his blade three times in different directions. “It's time. Show your fangs, Mizu!” The sword began to glow with a bright, white light.
Azuma looked on with curiosity as Kiyoshi simply continued to play his game. When the light faded, the zanpaku-to was now split in two towards the end and curved downwards like snake fangs. Azuma gazed at the released state of his zanpaku-to and laughed a little bit.
“Well if that's the case…” She held her arm out to the side holding her blade. “Rise and shine, Mamoru.” Her sword extended into a long black staff with curved blades on each end. She spun the staff above her head, seconds later the blades ignited with blue flames.
“Haha nice!” exclaimed Kiyoshi. He had a big smile on his face as he continued playing his game.
Azuma continued spinning the staff as she charged towards Hiroshi. He placed his weapon in front of him to guard against her. At the last minute she switched the position of the staff placing it behind his right leg. She yanked on it clipping Hiroshi to the ground. As he fell, Azuma jumped into the air and came down with the blade to his neck. Seeing the blade headed right towards him, Hiroshi rolled out of the way avoiding a sure death blow. She gritted her teeth in frustration at the miss. She the lashed out towards him swinging wildly, she was determined to land a hit. Hiroshi managed to block and dodge her attacks with some ease because her blind enraged state. Seeing an opening in her barrage of fierce attacks, he made his move. Hiroshi sidestepped to her right while swinging down his sword. The tips, of his zanpaku-to, sunk deep into her right shoulder. Azuma let out a yelp of pain as the blade left her skin. Hiroshi quickly jumped backwards to avoid any surprise attack from her. A smile formed on his face as Azuma glared at him.
“Just what the hell are you smiling for? It's only a flesh wound.” she exclaimed.
While still enthralled with his game, Kiyoshi spoke to her. “You're poisoned.”
Azuma glanced back at him confused. “What?”
Hiroshi was confused as well. Just how did he figure something out like that? This was the first time that they had ever met each other.
“That last strike poisoned you. Am I right Hiroshi?”
“Y-yes. My zanpaku-to has the ability to poison anything that its fangs cut. But how did you know that?” Hiroshi was puzzled at this and wanted to know how he figured It out.
The sound of an explosion rang from the handheld. “Dude, it wasn't that hard to figure out. Fangs...poison. Too easy.” he said arrogantly.
Azuma clenched her fist, she turned to Hiroshi and began to advance on him but stopped. “What the hell?!” Her right arm drop to the side going limp. “You bastard.”
Hiroshi chuckled at her. “Every few minutes a part of your body will go completely numb, rendering it useless. The only remedy is either my command….or my death.”
A crooked smile shot across her face at the hearing of the word death. “Looks like I ain't got a choice.” She spun the staff above her head before stabbing it in the concrete roof. “Just remember, you brought this on yourself.”
Kiyoshi looked up for a second then sighed. He knew exactly what was about to happen and the aftermath of it. “Here we go again.”
Azuma raised her left hand up to the right side of her forehead. She clasped tightly and in one quick motion, she yanked her hand down across her face. A burst of power erupted from this motion blowing debris everywhere. What sat on her face now was a mask similar in appearance to that of a hollow. Two small, upward bending horns stood out from her forehead, three red lines ran across the nose region like tribal markings. The chin of the mask was long and pointed. This was her true form. The spirit pressure emitting from her was so intense, Hiroshi could barely stand straight. Kiyoshi however seemed to be completely unaffected, continuing his game.
“What's…this…reiatsu?! So…strong!”
Azuma retrieved her staff from the ground the dashed towards her opponent at a blinding speed. She circled him constantly leaving behind afterimages. Hiroshi's eyes darted back and forth as he tried to keep up. Just then the curved blade strung out cutting him across the chest. A large gash appeared as blood shot from it. He held his chest in pain.
*Incredible. The mask increased her power 100 fold. She's a monster* He glanced over to Kiyoshi. *His reiatsu is stronger than hers naturally. Then that means…My God!*
With each pass around, a new cut appeared on his body. Azuma stopped her mad dash in front of him, she then cocked back a delivered a fierce punch to his face. The power behind the blow was enough to send Hiroshi flying on the rooftop. Azuma let an insane cackle as she ran and jumped off the roof above Hiroshi. As the two were in freefall, she slashed at him even more till they were about to hit the ground. She flipped right side up and placed her feet in his gut as they collided with much force on the concrete below. The expression on Hiroshi's face told of unimaginable pain. Thick blood shot from his mouth, some landing on Azuma's mask. As she stepped out of his gut, she dropped her weapon and snatched him up by the collar. She gave him six strong, swift knees to his gut before tossing him into a nearby light pole that bent on impact.
Hiroshi lay on the ground, half unconscious. He coughed up blood from internal bleeding. Azuma picked up her weapon, with one last insane cackle she charged towards him spinning the staff. This was going to be the final blow. Hiroshi closed his eyes accepting his fate. Seconds later he heard the sound of a struggle. He opened his eyes and what he saw before him was amazing. Azuma was being held in the air, by her throat, by Kiyoshi. His grip was strong on her, but not enough to make her faint. She thrashed around trying to get free but couldn't.
“Get your hands off me you prick!” she yelled in her insane voice. Kiyoshi simply rolled his eyes at her rude comment.
Hiroshi was in awe at Kiyoshi's strength. He himself couldn't do a thing against this vizard girl.
“I'll kill you too if you don't release me!” she screamed to him.
Starting to get annoyed with her threats, Kiyoshi grabbed the top of her mask with his free hand and pulled down, taking the mask off her face. Azuma's eyes returned to their natural color. She looked at Kiyoshi with a little confusion. Her hollow side had taken over in her enraged state. For awhile she was feeling fine, but the poison in her body had done its job. Her body went completely limp, she then fainted. Kiyoshi tossed her over his shoulder then turned to face Hiroshi.
“Now, don't think for a second that I'm showing you sympathy. I personally could careless if you live or die. I just don't wanna have to deal with those assclowns of Soul Society. Now I advise you to release her.”
Hiroshi looked to Azuma for a second. With the last of his strength he said, “Release.” Freeing her from the effects of the poison. Hiroshi glared at Kiyoshi with narrowed eyes, he was about to faint. This was the first time that he had ever felt this much pain in his life. As he blinked his eyes rapidly he saw Kiyoshi smiling at him.
He raised his leg then stomped him in the face, knocking him out completely. He then reached down grabbing Hiroshi and threw him over his other shoulder. “Now, lets get you patched up before you bleed to death. I know just the guy for the job.” With one last huff of breath, he flash stepped away carrying them both.
