Chapter 1: First Kiss
Usagi stretched as she stared out at the large mass of water in front of her. She knew that somewhere in that direction was a man that she loved, despite the cruel end he brought her daughter...Their daughter. She sighed and pulled a book from her bag. It was a book she had wanted to read for a while. Ahh, “Doctor Faustus”, she thought, I can only imagine what sort of hell your life is. She hummed absently.
Silence enveloped her, a blanket of loneliness following. She closed the book. The quiet times she used to love, in a companionable silence with her lover. She sighed deeply and rubbed her neck, rubbing over where he normally bit and left a scar. Her hand froze. She traced over the scars subconsciously, every memory filling her mind. Her first “kiss” came into her memory…

A smile graced Usagi's lips as she looked at the dark figure of her teacher. For a long time, she had loved him. And he had loved her. He pulled her close, holding her in his warm embrace. “I want you to stay with me forever. And I want you to be sure it's what you want,” her teacher informed.
“I want to be yours. I want to know that you love me, to never doubt you.”
“You don't know what I am…”
“I don't care what you are. I want to be yours for eternity.”
For the first time in so long, her teacher smiled a true smile. He picked up a dagger and cut his palm, offering the blood to Usagi, who immediately avoided it. He took some into his mouth without her noticing. As soon as he had the chance, he locked his lips with hers and forced the blood down her throat. Usagi swallowed it. To her surprise, he continued to kiss her in a deep, passionate kiss that promised so much more. Pain suddenly filled Usagi and she tried to get away from the man in front of her.
Usagi collapsed backwards, convulsions racking her body as the pain seeped through her. She passed out from the pain. The man stood up and hugged Usagi close enough for his hair-the hair that she loved to comb, brush, and play with-to caress her face tenderly. He waited her awakening.

Usagi closed her eyes. She remembered his silken hair on his face. She had offered him everything…Just for him to take it for granted. Of course, Usagi had long left. Not that it soothed her desire for him. Although she was in a different country, her desire to see him burned. She heard a cello being played and turned to see Haji playing his cello. As the sun began to set, she got up, pulling a coffin onto her back. “We'd better get to work.”
“…” Haji didn't talk much. As proved here.
Usagi rested a hand on the strap. She followed Haji silently.

Knowing that Haji was dealing with Saya, Usagi leaned on the other side of the tree. She sensed the Chiropteran drawing near and sighed. Haji returned to her and nodded mutely. Again, he doesn't talk much. Usagi shouldered her coffin and jumped into one of the rooms. She knew that she wouldn't be of use here.

Usagi heard voices from behind her. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing soldiers begin to fill the room. She watched them, regarding the blank stares they gave her. Of course, they didn't know what they were supposed to do with a girl. Suddenly, Usagi had one of her black-out moments. She fell unconscious as the soldiers began to move toward her.

Van looked at the unconscious form of Usagi on the stretcher in front of him. He was sure he had seen her somewhere before. Currently, he was watching a crystallized Chiropteran being dissected to determine what caused this. Of course, with the only living being found at the scene unconscious, it was almost impossible to figure it out.
Finding himself bored, he pulled a piece of candy from his pocket and placed it in his mouth. A sourball, he thought. How fitting for zis moment. He mentally scoffed. Who is zat girl? He looked at Usagi over his glasses, studying her.
“Sir, her signs are starting to show that she's waking up,” The man dissecting the Chiropteran informed, looking over at the screen that showed Usagi's vitals. Van leaned closer to the glass, staring at Usagi. He could tell that her heart rate was faster. The misting of her breath on the oxygen tank she was hooked up to was slightly faster. She was definitely awakening.
As Usagi stirred, she could tell she was hooked up to machines. She could also tell that an IV was hooked up to her, a blood transfusion in process. She wearily opened her eyes and saw “D67” written on the bag with the IV. She pulled the needle out of her arm and unhooked herself from the machines, very annoyed. She looked at the doctor. “A bandage, please.” Of course, she was holding where the IV had been hooked up to her.
As soon as she had the gauze pad and tape, she covered her injection spot and got up. “I think I'll be leaving…Where's my coffin?”
“You shan't be leaving so soon, little girl.”
“You'll be a fool to attempt stopping me. Now, tell me where my coffin is and I won't have to herm everyone here.”
“What do you plan on doing? Doctor, send her to my office where we shall speak.”
“Yes sir,” the doctor replied.

Van sat at his temporary office. His permanent one was in France, but he was dealing with the Okinawa military so he had to stay there for a while. The door opened.
“Why am I being kept here?”
“Zat is confidential.” There was a grumble in response. “I am a good friend of Solomon, the CEO of the Cinques Fleches Pharmaceutical Company so please tell me.”
“You are friends wiz Soloman?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm...Interesting.”
Usagi sat in one of the chairs as Van replaced the candy. Usagi questioned, “Do you happen to have any fireballs?”
“Yes, I do. Would you like one?”
“Yes, please.” Usagi caught the piece of candy Van threw at her. She placed it in her mouth and sucked on it. She looked at Van. “Where is my coffin?”
“I have it in storage.”
“I need it.”
“I shall retrieve it, zen.” Van pressed a button on the intercom. “Please bring up ze coffin to my office.”

Karl sat at his desk. The thoughts of his lover flowed through his mind. It's been so long…And yet…She still has me like a puppy… He leaned back, an unchecked tear sliding down his face. He folded his hands in his lap. Silence engulfed him. He was so used to the laughter of his lover, or her sweet voice making noise instead of there being silence. He longed to have her near again.
Karl heard a knock on the door. He sighed. “Come in…”
“Hello, brother.”
“Good evening, Solomon.”
“Are you thinking about Usagi again?” Solomon knew the look in his eyes. With a sigh, Karl nodded.
“I wonder where she is…And if she's happy without me…”
“She's with Van.”
“WHAT?!”
“He's keeping her captive because he found her with a crystallized Chiropteran.” Karl sighed in relief. He looked out the window.
“…I heard a rumor you may be interested in, Karl.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. Usagi's going to be coming to Cinques Fleches School in Vietnam. Apparently, she's going to be coming within the week, though.”
“…I see. I need your advice, then.”
“What with?”
“…Should I give her a gift?”
“That's a good idea.”
“…Thank you. Also, should I avoid her or try to talk to her?”
“About Mouna? Talking is best.”
“Thanks, brother.” Karl continued to gaze out the window as Solomon left.
