Chapter 3: The Clinging Memories
Usagi opened her eyes, her sight was hazy and her body ached. She could feel a hand touch her face, admiring her soft skin. She squirmed away from the caress and rubbed her eyes. Something was on her forehead, a damp clothe. She slid it from her head and threw it to the ground, the remains of its dampness on her forehead. Her sight cleared and she shot up, this was not her dormitory, she wasn't asleep in her bed. Where was she?
She remembered being at the cemetery, singing before her daughter's grave. She knew she was ill but she would get better, she's wasn't human anymore. She wasn't human anymore, all because of him! He killed their daughter....Mouna.
"Be careful, you're ill. You don't have the full healing potency of Chevaliers when it comes to illnesses. You need rest," a familiar voice said. Usagi quickly swiveled her head and saw her lover...Former lover. He neared her, attempting to touch her face, but she slid back.
"Don't touch me!" Usagi yelled.
"Usagi..." Karl solaced.
"No! You killed our daughter! I have every right to yell at you!" Usagi yelled; warm tears began to rain from her eyes. She touched her cheek and wiped them away, more kept coming. The tears were rich with deception, betrayal, and passion. Karl reached forward to wipe the tears away but his love turned her head aside.
"Usagi..." he said softly.
"No! Stay away damnit!" Usagi cried, sadness beginning to take over her tone. She got up and ran to the door, about to leave but within seconds Karl was in front of her. He pulled into a warm embrace, his hair caressing her face. Usagi fought back desperately; she could sense her emotions being solaced from Karl's touch.
"Get off damnit!" she cried. Karl pulled her closer into his chest.
"Usagi, calm down. You're ill and you need rest," he said softly. Usagi soon settled in his arms; recalling how warm his embrace was.
"Why Karl? Why did you kill our daughter?" Usagi asked in a sad soft tone. Karl didn't answer; it would be best not to provoke more anger and vice from her. She needed to respite and grow well again. He picked her up and carried her to the bed, setting her down and lying next to her to solace her.
He planted a soft kiss on her forehead, and soon enough, Usagi fell asleep from her tears. Her dream, a slightly different version of what had jus happened, comforted her slightly more.

~Dream~
Usagi clenched her eyes shut as her senses gave her a good guess at where she was. Sweet-smelling smoke and warmth suggested a fire of birch wood. She opened them and gazed at the familiar ceiling. She began to struggle to sit up before a hand pushed her down and a familiar voice instructed, “Lay down. You need to rest.”
“I'll be perfectly fine…”
“No you won't. I know how bad your fevers can get.”
“Why in the nine hells do you care?!”
“Because…I still love you.”
“Tch. And you show your love by killing Mouna?”
Karl sighed. He stared at the ceiling for a moment before replying, “Diva controlled my mind and my body to kill the nearest being. She thought it would be you. It was Mouna.”
“Lies.”
“Not at all. Here,” Karl murmured before pressing his forehead to Usagi's. Usagi gasped as the memories of Karl's hearing the voice and Karl's utter misery.
Usagi closed her eyes, tears forming and running down her cheeks. Karl pulled her close and rubbed her back, his hand traveling a little low. He felt a sharp sting on his cheek and rubbed the red hand print. He went back to rubbing her back as she sobbed into her chest, managing to say “Pervert” between sobs. The sobs tore at Karl's heart and he couldn't help but close his eyes and cry with her.
~Dream~
Karl lay back, singing quietly to Usagi to lure her into sleep. “I dreamed I was missing…You were so scared…But no one would listen…`cause no one else cared…After my dreaming, I woke with this fear…What am I leaving when I'm done here? So if you're asking me, I want you to know.
“When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done. Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. Don't resent me, and when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory. Leave out all the rest. Leave out all the rest.
“Don't be afraid…I've taken my beating…I've shared what I've made…I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through…I've never been perfect, but neither have you. So if you're asking me, I want you to know.
“When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done. Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. Don't resent me, and when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory. Leave out all the rest. Leave out all the rest.
“Forgetting all the hurt inside you've learned to hide so well. Pretending someone else can save me from myself. I can't be who you are. When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done. Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed. Don't resent me, and when you're feeling empty, keep me in your memory. Leave out all the rest. Leave out all the rest. Forgetting all the hurt inside you've learned to hide so well. Pretending someone else can save me from myself. I can't be who you are. I can't be you are.”
Karl hugged Usagi closely, rolling on his side and burying his nose in her hair. He breathed in her scent. Roses…Backed with a scent of damp wood…He thought, reveling in the feel of her in his arms. He smiled slightly. Things were almost back to normal…

Usagi opened her eyes to gaze up at her lover. He was staring at her, his black eyes filled with worry. Usagi quietly began to sing to reassure him. It was one of her favorite songs. She knew that Karl knew, that he'd feel relieved at hearing her voice.
“Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen. Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen. Let his flesh not be torn, let his blood leave no stain; though they beat him let him feel no pain! Let his bones never break, and however they try to destroy him let him never die. Let him never die.
“Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen. Eleka nahmen nahmen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen eleka. What good is this chanting? I don't even know what I'm reading! I don't even know which trick I ought to try. Fiyero, where are you? Already dead, or bleeding? One more disaster I can add to my generous supply?
”No good deed goes unpunished. No act of charity goes unresented. No good deed goes unpunished. That's my new creed. My road of good intentions led where such roads always lead. No good deed goes unpunished!
“Nessa…Doctor Dillamond…Fiyero…Fiyero!! One question haunts and hurts. Too much, too much to mention; Was I really seeking good or just seeking attention? Is that all good deeds are when looked at with an ice-cold eye? If that's all good deeds are, maybe that's the reason why.” Karl listened with a half-smile. “No good deed goes unpunished. All helpful urges should be circumvented. No good deed goes unpunished! Sure, I meant well - well, look at what well-meant did. All right, enough - so be it. So be it, then; Let all Oz be agreed I'm wicked through and through. Since I cannot succeed, Fiyero, saving you. I promise no good deed will I attempt to do again. Ever again! No good deed will I do again!”
Karl lie back, pulling Usagi with him. He held her close into his warmth. She whispered his name. Karl was instantly hard. It had been a long amount of time since she had said his name with such desire…

A/N:
Credit for the beginning section, up until the dream, goes to my friend, Lilian. Thanks!!! Also, the song, “No Good Deed”, is not mine. It is from Wicked. And I hope nobody thought I owned that song. Also, I do not own Blood+ (you'd be crazy to think that I would).
