Chapter 5 - Narrow Escapes

Recap:
Maddison started running towards the tunnel. Eli started, but saw somthing glinting in the statue's palm. He grabbed it out of her hand and ran for the exit. Unfortunately, the roof started to cave in, before they could get out. They just stood there, Li hugging Sakura and Eli holding Maddison's hand, as the cave trembled more violently.

As the cave trembled, Maddison heard the same sinister laugh she heard in dream. She froze in her spot, as fragments of her dream raged through her mind. She looked hypnotised. Sakura called on her staff, and used the 'Through' card, to get through the many rocks on the floor. Everyone concentrated on getting Sakura out of the hole, because she was the Clow Mistress- currently the most important member of their group. According to the prophecy, she was to save the world. Nobody realized Maddison was still in the cavern. They all assumed she was following them. Reaching the hole they entered through, Sakura summoned the 'Float' to carry them to the surface.
Upon reaching the top, Eli''s spell broke, and the hole completely disappeared.
"That was close!" exclaimed Eli, "Is everyone alright?"
"I'm fine" said Sakura, tring to catch her breath. She just collapsed on the floor.
"Me too" smiled Li, as he walked over to help Sakura.
"What about you Maddi--?" started Eli
"WHERE'S MADDISON?!?!? Wasn't she with you" he said looking at Li
"No! I thought she was with Sakura.." he stated
"I thought Eli took care of her!" said Sakura, her voice quivering as she felt panic rush through her
~*Meanwhile, Maddison was in the Cavern, with flashes fromt he dream running rapidly through her mind*~
She saw the Shadowy Figure mocking her, Sakura crying, Li dead and her mother captured, hanging from the tree, in the shadow's possesion. The thought of Eli saving her life, kept replaying in her mind. The sinister laugh kept echoing in her mind. She could feel guilt rush through her viens. She was responsible for the death of the only person she very really cared for. She could feel tears well up in her eyes, but refused to cry. She couldn't cry; She shouldn't cry. It was only a dream after all; She couldn't believe a dream!
~*Back to Cherry Park, where we left Sakura, Li and Eli worried about Maddison*~
Eli stared at the ground where the hole existed. He could feel tears rising in his eyes. Everything was a blur. He fell to his knees.
Eli's P.O.V.
Why didn't I make sure she was alright?.....
Why didn't I make sure she was with me?....
With no magic to protect her,
she could be gone forever...
WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END LIKE THIS!!
Back to Narrator's P.O.V.^_^
Sakura and Li just stared at Eli, kneeling on the ground, his hair covering his eyes. They barely noticed the wall of tears building up in in his eyes, as he forced himself to control them. Sakura was feeling delerious, from panic, letting her tears flow quite freely. Li was shaken, but not enough to break down. He didn't know who to help, Sakura or Eli.
"Why couldn't it be me! Why her? She has such an innocent, untouched soul...." his thoughts trailed on, as he was surrounded by a bright blue aura. Li and Sakura watched in shock, as ELi was lifted in the blue light. Now they could clearly see his face, tear-stained face. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't hold them back, because he knew he would never forgive himself. He began disappearing into the aura, leaving Sakura and Li screaming out his name, watching anxiously.
Eli's P.O.V. {again!}
I could feel a barrier of tears building up, but no matter how hard i tried to keep them inside, they rushed out. I lost the most important person in my life, a few minutes ago, probably forever. At the moment Sakura means nothing to me; Due to her safety, I disregarded Maddison's. How could I?? I felt a strange energy flowing freely through my body. I slowly found myself rising, and soon hovering above the ground. I could barely see Sakura and Li watching me, beyond my tears, as the aura took over. I felt weightless, as the light transported me through a different dimension. I closed my eyes, refusing to shed anymore tears. A few moments later, I could feel my feet touch the ground. My eyes inched open to see a huge rock, from the roof of the cavern, break away, ready to crush Maddison to small pieces. Maddison seemed hypnotised, not responding to my warnings. How am I to save Maddison from the gigantic rock rushing towards her~
~*Back in the cavern, with a hypnotised Maddison and a very baffled Eli. Narrator's P.O.V.*~
Eli is yelling at Maddison to get of of the way, not understanding why she was just standing there. He rushed and pulled her out of the way, barely escaping the stattering force of the boulder. Maddison immediately snapped out of her trance.
"Waa?......What happened? Where are Sakura and Li?" Maddison didn't give Eli time to answer, before she pointed to a feminine figure, holding a pocket watch with a spiral on it. She smiled at Maddison. Baffled, Maddison pointed towards it; Unfortunately, Eli could only catch a glimpse of the hologram-like image, before it vanished. The cavern stopped trembling too.
"Hey! Are you OK?" Eli said, shaking Maddison, to get her back to her senses.
Maddison acted as if she was under a spell, or hypnotised. Eventually, after lots of yelling from Eli, she landed back on planet earth.
"Why didn't you follow us? You could have been killed! Do you know what you have put ME through!" Eli screamed, voicing his thoughts. It really bugged him that Maddison could not remember anything at all.
"Why are you yelling at me, Eli? Are you mad at me? What did I do?" asked Maddison sadly. Eli calmed down, when he noticed that asking Maddison countless questions was not helping much.
"Where are Sakura and Li, Eli? Are they alright?" Maddison repeated her question.
"Oh! Yah they are fine. They are back in the park waiting for us." Maddison heard certain relief in his voice. It was no longer tense.
"Didn't thay wait for us?" She asked as she slowly rose to her feet. She patiently listened as Eli filled her in on what had happened. This surprised Maddison. Was this another new clow card? Was she the target, like Tori was with the mirror card. She recalled the story Sakura told her, about her encounter with The Mirror. She said the mirror almost killed Tori. Was this unknown magic a threat to her life? She concentrated on her thoughts so much she nearly walked into the ock barrier, blocking the exit.
"Ok! How the heck did you get in here?" she demanded, irritated, pointing towards the wall that kept them hostage in this mysterious, dangerous cavern.
"Ummm....I think I teleported..." he guessed silently, unsure of his reply
"Teleported!!!" exclaimed Maddison, her eyes widening with surprise, "I didn't know you could do that....I mean...not like your not strong enough, because you harbour Clow Reeds magic. But---You know..."
"I see how it is!" said Eli teasingly, giving Maddison a weird look.
"Gimme a break! Do your voo-doo thing and get us out of here..." she playfully demanded.
"I'll try, I really didn't control what happened to me" he explained as he walked towards Maddison and took her hand. Now, he closed his eyes and concentrated on the place where he left Sakura and Li. A picture of the place appeared in his mind's eye...lush green grass blowing in the gentle spring breeze. Pink blossoms blooming on the tall, strong, yet fragile looking trees.....He could feel the same energy surround him. Maddison had to shield her eyes from the bright blue aura that shone around them. She felt herself being lifted into another dimension of space and time. She squeezed her eyes shut, because she didn't want to know what to expect. In a flashm she could feel stable ground under her feet. She could feel grass, damp from the morning dew, tickle her feet. She could smell the crisp morning air with a hint of the ravishing fragrance of cherry blossoms. She dared to inch her eyes open, cluthing Eli's hand even harder. She suddenly felt a strong warm force hit her, at first, then pulled her into a death grip. She opened her eyes to see Li with a playful smirk spread across his face. A little to her right was Eli, with his caring auzre eyes set upon her, and a small mischievous smile dancing across his lips. She turned her attention to Sakura, who was despretely cling on to her, as if she would vanish, and never meet again.
"It's alright Sakura...I'm fine..." started Maddison
"...now" she finished in a whisper, so soft, that she, herself, barely heard it.
"Let's go home! I've had enough for today!" Sakura whimpered, releasing Maddison from the death grip, and gently tugging at Li's sleeve. "Come on..."
Sakura, with Li's help headed home. They didn't live very far away from the park, unlike Maddison, who lived furthest.
"Eli...." Maddison
"Hmmm...." Eli, turning his attention away from Sakura and looking at Maddison
"Thanks again for saving me.....I do not know where I would be if you weren't here" Maddison
"Anytime Maddison. It's my duty to protect you..." said Eli softly
"Thanks...It means a lot to me" Maddison said, revealing the most angelic smile Eli had ever seen
"Hey...why don't you stay over for tonight too. I'll drop you off tommorrow" invited Eli
"Thanks, that would be nice" said Maddison unleashing a huge yawn.
"Wanna take a shortcut?" offered Eli, winking and motioning towards his staff
"Gladly...I'm too weak to walk anymore...Unless you wanna carry me!" hinted Maddison, closing in on Eli, falling asleep in his arms.
He teleported her to the guest room, and used magic to change her clothes, into suitable night clothes. He pulled the comforter up to her delicate shoulders, which were bordered by dark locks.
"Night.......my angel...I mean Maddison" he whispered
Fortunately, she was in a deep sleep, and didn't hear him.
