CHAPTER 4: ANCIENT PROPHECIES
____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________

"So, lets start." a melodious voice interrupted his thoughts. He realized that Maddison was dragging him toward the kitchen.
They packed sandwiches, muffins, bagels, choclate, candy...MMmmmmm couldn't forget choclate or candy. They finished packing lunch and cleaned up right before the doorbell rang. Maddison opened the door, letting a stream of blinding sunlight into the room. She could barely see Sakura and Li. Sakura hugged Maddison in greeting, while Li just smiled at her.
"You're only on hour late!" exclaimed Eli as he stepped out into the light.
"Well, Sakura called me at 8:00 am and I was at her place by 8:15. But she had to choose what to wear for 45 minutes!" teased Li
"Hey..." protested Sakura
"O-K-. Lets leave before another arguement breaks out!" adviced Maddison, pulling Eli towards the door.
"Hey... What? Is it pick on cute little Sakura Day!" demanded Sakura?
"Chill out! We're just joking. So, you love birds ready to fly?" teased Eli
Neither of them said anything. They just walked out, leaving Maddison and Eli laughing.

It took them half an hour to get to Cherry Park. It was beautiful at this time of year, with the Cherry Blossoms in bloom. The down side was, all the good places were taken by couples, who were not shy in public. Seriously, some of these people needed rooms. No matter which direction they went, they saw people making out, intensly. Sakura and Li understood their passion very well, but Maddison and Eli felt uncomfortable. They found a nice summery spot on top a small hill. They sat down for lunch, and enjoyed Maddison and Eli's cooking. After stuffing their faces, they explored the park. This park was new in the neighbourhood. It even had a fair!

Eli was worried about Maddison. This day was exactly like his dream. He didn't want to lose Maddison. She meant too much to him. So, he stayed particularly close to Maddison, always watching her. He didn't find that hard. She looked like a lost little child in need of help.
He couldn't help smiling at the thought. Maddison was always the independent girl. She was the one who comforted and cheered Sakura and Li on. She made them believe in themselves. It was hard to imagine her in need of comfort herself. But she looked lost and distant.

Sakura and Maddison insisted that they spend the day at the fair. Li and Eli just lagged behing, talking about Clow Reed and previous experinces, while watching the girls.
"Eli?" started Li
"Yah,..." Eli said as he took his eyes of Maddison and faced Li
"I was wondering if.....you know..." stammered Li
"You are asking the question, how am I supposed to know!!" thought Eli.
"Well...." asked Eli getting a little impatient
"Do you like Maddison?" Li blurted it out, quite loudly in fact. Sakura heard them, but Maddison was too far away.
"I dunno..." He responded, "She's special to me, but i'm not really sure."
"K..Just wondering 'cause you seem to be worried about her" explained Li
"It's that obvious?!?!?!" Eli said half laughing
"Kinda...mainly because I used to be worried about Sakura too. But I realized that she can take care of herself"
"But Maddison doesn't have magic to protect herself! like Sakura does.." protested Eli
"That's true... But we're a team and all of us will make sure she is safe. OK?" assured Li
" Thanks..." smiled Eli, and then thought to himself, "If you ever have time, lover boy! You're too into Sakura"

They just walked through the fair, almost waiting for somthing to happen. Maddison and Sakura were the last people to get kicked out of the fair. The security gaurd had to literally throw them out! Disappointed, they just walked throught he park. A slight fog started settling. Maddison wanted to get a drink. So Eli and Maddison left Sakura and Li alone and headed for the water fountains. They passed washrooms on the way back. Eli felt uncomfortable leaving Maddison alone, but what could he do? It would be wrong to go into the girls washroom. So, he waited outside for her.

She fixed her hair and lip gloss and headed back outside. She saw him waiting, leaning against a huge tree, staring at the moon. He looked so cute in the moonlight. His midnight-blue eyes reflected intelligence. They also were a door into his feelings, but not many people could see that. Sometimes, she found it hard to believe that a part of an ancient spirit rested inside him. She felt a strange feeling rushing through her, inside and out. She stoped staring and ran up to him. They made their way back to Sakura and Li. In a moment, a huge hand grabbed Maddison. Li, who was closest to her, rushed to her side and held on to her. Suddenly a gigantic hole appeared in the ground and Li and Maddison fell through. Eli was shocked! This was his dream, no but now he was prepared. Eli clutched his key and yelled:

I call upon the powers of the day and the night,
Sun and darkness, Unleash your might,
RELEASE!!

Eli's key transformed into a staff at an agonisingly slow pace. Finally, he used his staff to block the hole from closing completely.

Now it was Sakura's turn:

O' Key of the star...
With powers burning bright...
Release the staff ...
And shine your light...
RELEASE!!

Float card! Carry Eli and me to the bottom of that hole. Float!

Sakura ran close to Eli. A pink ball surrounded them, and they found themselves floating down the small, deep hole. It took a while for them to reach the bottom. When they did they heard Li yelling Maddison's name. Eli was frozen in his spot. No, she couldn't have... Eli approached her body, and kneeled to help Li.
"Her heart is still beating. I think the fall was too intense, so she blacked out." Li said updating Eli and Sakura on what happened.
"E.........l....i...." she stuttered in a drowsy tone, as her her eyes slowly fluttered open.
"Your going to be fine." replied Eli, and continued under his breath. "I promise"
Maddison sat up, feeling better now. She noticed there were two tunnels.
"Now that we're all down here, Sakura and Li can take the left tunnel (*Points to the left tunnel*), while Eli and I can take the other one." Maddison was almost ordering them. No wasn't going to be an answer. She felt someone wanted her to discover what lay in front of them.
The three meekly agreed, not daring to argue with her. None of them have ever heard her speak in such a commanding voice before.

"Why don't you start. I'll wait for Maddison to recover a little more." suggested Eli, refering to Sakura.

"Thank you for waiting." said Maddison as she tried to stand, but she fell. She had sprained her ankle, and it was swelling. He caught her as she fell. They were a little too close to each other. He quickly made her sit, as he started using his magic to heal her ankle. She was so in love with him, now. She knew it for sure; No doubt was left in her mind. But she was afraid of letting HIM know the truth. Now, she understood what Sakura felt when she first realized her feelings. But she didn't have the courage to face this- not yet anyways.
"Try standing up now" Eli said, breaking Maddison's thoughts. She saw Eli holding out his hand waiting for her to stand up, patiently.

It took her while to get up, and start walking. In a few moments they were walking down a dark tunnel, illuminated by candles on the walls. Eli's thoughts were racing through his head. He wanted to tell Maddison how he felt. But how??
"Umm.. Maddison..." started Eli, trying despretely to put his thought into words.
"Why is this so hard!!" he thought.
"Yah...Hello!...earth to Eli!" He heard Maddison saying as he realized she was listening to him.
"Uhhh..Sorry about the. Just thinking." muttered Eli
"Are you feeling OK?" asked Maddison in a really concerned voice
"NO! I AM NOT OK I AM TRYING TO SAY I LIKE YOU, BUT WORDS ARE NOT MAKING SENSE!!" a voice screamed in his head.
"Yah..I just wanted to say that....uhhh...well...I..kinda------" He was cut off by someone screaming their names.
"Maddison....Eli...Wait up!" They heard Sakura and Li screaming in unison. They turned around, and saw Sakura and Li running breathlessly towards them. They waved to signal that they were waiting. They caught up to Eli and Maddison and took a minute to start breathing normally.
"We-came-to-a-dead-end-" Sakura managed to say out of breath.
Eli gave Li a <<Great-timing>> evil look. Li was confused.
"What were you telling me Eli?" Maddison asked, resuming their previous conversation.
"Nothing....Forget about it...." he muttered in reply. Now Li understood everything!....well kinda understood everything. Li dragged Eli behind, letting the girls gain distance in front of them.
"WHAT was the look for!" demanded Li scarcastically
"Forget it....Just never mind..." replied Eli, with a hint of frustration in his voice
"You were going to tell Maddison, weren't you." Eli could feel Li excitment rise, "Man! we have horrible timing!"
"YES!!!. I finally got some kinda words in my head, and YOU come running in!" Now Eli was really frustrated
"Words, All you say is 'I like you'. That's it" explained Li
"Easy for you to say, you already told Sakura!" Said eli, lightly punching Li in his shoulder
A devilish grin spread across Li's face, as he walked into someone.
"What are you two secretly talking about!" Sakura and Maddison demanded in unison.
"Guy stuff...." they replied, under their breath. -_-''
Sakura and Maddison gave them sly looks as they continued walking toward the end of the tunnel. A couple of feet ahead, the narrow tunnel spread out into a large, spacy cavern. There were beautiful tapestries of all the Star Cards, on the left side. They stared at the cavern in awe.

Suddenly Sakura's Star Book appeared, and unlocked itself. The star cards flew out in order and hovered in fronto of the tapestry with their picture. The cards settled in stone blocks, which were set out, one in front of every tapestry. The cavern started trambling, as they watched a portion of the groud split, and the statue rise. The statue looked like Clow reed, but it was a female. She had bright blue eyes, with long, ebony black curls that spilt over her shoulders. She was wearing a long black gown, with pink trimmings. There was a symbol on the dress, but they were too far away to se it. Maddison ran towards the figure. She stopped still when she recognised the symbol. It was a replica of the top of Eli's staff, with a butterfly in the center. She slowly stumbled closer to the figure to read the scroll it was holding. It was an ancient prophecy-

ANCIENT EVILS WILL RETURN
HEARTS OF PEOPLE, HE WILL BURN
DRY THOSE PEOPLE'S TEARS OF RAIN
BY CALLING ON THE CARDS AGAIN

Eli caught up to her and read the prophecy. They exchanged confused glances and called Sakura and Li. The cards flew around Sakura for a couple of seconds before returning to the book. Li and Sakura came up to the prophecy and read it.
"So, now you have to be on the look out again, for anything out of the ordinary." sighed Maddison
Being a mere mortal without magical abilities, she was going to be lonely again. And now Eli will have to help them. Life sucked! Maddison turned her attention back to the cave. Why was one side decorated so beautifully, but the other half completely bare. Before she could come up with more questions, the cavern trembled again.
"Guys...lets get out of here!" suggested Sakra, her voice quivering in fear. Li, Sakura and Maddison started running towards the tunnel. Eli started, but saw somthing glinting in the statue's palm. He grabbed it out of her hand and ran for the exit. Unfortunately, the roof started to cave in, before they could get out. They just stood there, Li hugging Sakura and Eli holding Maddison's hand, as the cave trembled more violently.
