Card Captor Sakura Fan Fiction ❯ Dark side of the moon ❯ Chapter 8
Li opened his eyes to find himself in a world of mist and darkness. He blinked a few times letting his eyes adjust to the darkness but no matter how many times he blinked his eye would not focus, it was as if he could no longer see. Frowning to himself he took a deep breath and let his other senses guide him.
He only took a couple steps when he heard a faint voice and the sound of wings beating. He listened again and after confirming it he head in the direction it was coming from.
--
Rei could not believe what she was seeing before her from some unknown reason she was able to see the figure that was floating before her. It was a very ugly creature with huge black wings with claws at the ends, it large spiked tail swinging wildly behind it. The creature shifted to the left its head tilting to the side showing off its razor sharp teeth and glowing yellow eyes.
Rei began to tremble she did not like this creature it was not like the last one she had seen. This one frightened her but at the same time made her curious as to why it was here.
"What do you want?"
"You." It growled back at her its glowing yellow eyes never leaving hers.
She gulped and backed up again just as it floated towards her again. Rei was trembling now she didn't know what was going to happen.
"Why?" she squeaked out
She watched, as the creature seemed to smile at her its eyes glowing brightly before it opened it huge mouth revealing large sharp teeth. Rei would have cried or run if she could have but her feet seemed to be rooted to the spot she could only watch the creature as it moved closer to her.
--
Li made it way through the fog stopping when he spotted Rei. A large black and green dragon was coiled around her body crushing her in its grasp. He rushed over to her and reached for his sword as he skidded to a halt but there was no sword.
He saw he wasn't even armed with his talismans to help him. He growled his frustration at this but he couldn't just let her get eaten could he.
Rei glanced over to see what had caught the dragon's eye; it was the young boy Li. She began to panic wondering if the dragon would go after him once she was gone. Rei watched as Li ran towards her his amber eyes flashing with anger.
The dragon seemed to loosen its hold and Rei slipped from its grasp and slumped to the floor. The dragon smiled even more sparing a glance at Rei before roaring and moving towards Li.
Li dodged the attacks the dragon made with its tail, the razor sharp ribs just missing him by mere inches. He had to get it away from Rei long enough for her to escape. He jumped out of the way and back as the tail swept under his feet and it flew forward trying to bite him.
Rei watched as the young boy kept dodging the attacks but she saw how he was struggling to keep away from the dragon's teeth and barbs but he was slowly loosing and this made her sad and angry.
Angry to see someone attacking her beloved master and sad because she was afraid to loose him and herself, that last feeling made her cock her eyebrow and look down at her hands. They were the same creamy white hands as before but for some reason she didn't want them to be anymore.
Li leapt to the side and rolled rearing backwards as another attack came. He dodged it but wasn't fast enough the barbs sliced the front of his shirt and knocked him back.
Rei's eyes flashed green-gold, she could feel the anger build, the urge to protect the young boy was becoming to great for her to ignore but she had no way to protect him.
"Let me out, I can help him."
Rei glanced around but found only blackness and air.
"Who said that?"
"Please let me out."
Rei glanced around once more and noticed a large oval mirror; it appeared to be the same one that was in her previous dream. She walked up to it and found the image of a very beautiful young woman. She had short golden hair her large elfin like ear protruding from under her wild locks.
Her hands were pressed up against the glass revealing they were more like claws then hands.
"Please let me out, I can save him."
Rei turned back to see Li wasn't faring as well and he wasn't able to fight back the creature seemed to be winning. She turned her gaze back to the young woman in the mirror to find her green-gold eyes gazing at her.
"Please, I must help our master."
"Our master?"
"Yes, if I do not then we will have lost him once more. And I will not let that happen."
Lavender eyes gazed at green-gold eyes one pair willing the other to understand to listen. Rei stepped forwards and placed her hands on the mirror, instantly it began to spill over onto her hand wrapping around her.
Li was not sure how much longer he could last dodging the attacks, he didn't have anything to defend himself with and he did not like it at all. He had fallen back skidding to a stop about to jump away when he looked up and saw the dragon heading towards him at lightening speed. He wasn't able to move in time and the dragon slashed his right side cutting his arm and scratching his face.
It was about to strike again when thousands of green shards rained down upon it tearing through its flesh and ripping its wings. The Dragon roared in pain its yellow eyes raging as it whipped around to face its attacker.
Li looked up, he blinked a few times as if unsure of what he was seeing. There hovering a few feet off the ground a little ways away from him was Rei yet at the same time it was also Amaya. They seemed to be flickering back and forth but one thing remained the same, their eyes held such anger for the beast in front of them.
" How dare you strike out at my master" Rei/ Amaya spoke with such hate dripping from her voice.
The dragon's only response was to growl before lunging at her. Rei/Amaya flittered out of sight only to appear behind the creature and slashing at its wings tearing them open making the beast cry out.
It whipped around and lunged again but they just dodged it appearing above it. The dragon glanced around looking for the figure but unable to locate it, until it spoke.
"Looking for me?"
The creature glanced up to see a dark green energy arrow heading towards it.
Li watched as the arrow pierced the dragon's head and light exploded engulfing it. His gazed turned towards Amaya and Rei they seemed to still be flickering back and forth between themselves. He stood up and made his way to them wondering what was going on.
Amaya/ Rei descended to the ground and swiftly made their way over to where Li was. When they reached him they noticed he was injured and they began to worry.
"Master you are hurt let me heal you." Amaya/ Rei cried
" Are you all right?"
"I am fine but you are injured master."
"I sensed your ki was fluctuating it felt like you were in trouble. Rei is very sick what is going on Amaya."
Surprised passed over both faces before it was replaced by confusion.
"So she is rejecting me then."
"What do you mean? Aren't you one and the same, like Keroberous and Yue?"
Amaya seemed to think this over before speaking to him.
"In a way however if the counterpart rejects us then we no longer can exist. We begin to tire and fade, before we disappear altogether."
Li noticed that the images seemed to flicker rapidly when Amaya spoke of that. He was getting dizzy watching them flicker he needed to clear his mind and concentrate. He closed his eyes and took and deep breathe before he slowly opened them.
He found the flickering had eased up somewhat and both girls seemed to be calmer. He focused in on Rei she seemed to give off worry, confusion and fear. He then focused on Amaya she gave off worry, fear and sorrow.
He took a deep breath before he focused in on each of their ki again. He knew why they were worried it was for him. But the fear was different; Rei feared that she would be swallowed up and her identity lost while Amaya feared being rejected.
"Master?" they called out to him their hands outstretched
"You don't have to be afraid." He said snapping open his eyes
His eyes were like liquid amber, soothing and comforting.
"I won't let anything happen to you."
They didn't say anything but smile as the two merged together a bright green light engulfing them before disappearing and leaving a sleeping Rei behind.
"Arigoto master." Whispered Amaya's voice from the shadows
--
Ryuu sei watched as Rei's ki calmed and became settled once again.
`It appears he has balanced her. This proves he truly is our master.'
Li opened his eyes and blinked a couple times before her turned and looked down at Rei. She was not longer thrashing about but sleeping peacefully. He turned to see Ryuu sei watching him with interest, he returned her gaze before giving one last look at Rei then leaving.
"I have to go but I will be back, watch over her Ryuu sei."
"Yes master."
--
Yukito glanced behind him for the fifth time that day, his gaze on the empty desk where Rei used to sit. It had been almost and entire week and she still had yet to return to class. He was getting really worried about her and so were Nakuru and Touya.
He glanced behind him again before sighing and turning back towards the lesson it was actually quiet boring really and he usually like history.
It wasn't until Saturday that he saw her; he was walking home from Touya's house when he spotted her sitting on one of the swings in Penguin Park. She was just slowly pushing herself back and forth lost in thought as she stared up at the clouds passing overhead.
Rei was so lost in thought thinking about what had happened the pervious week she didn't hear Yuki walk up behind her. She didn't even hear him call her name only when he touched her shoulder did she jump and look up.
A pair of warm gray eyes were gazing down at her a smile on his face. She blushed slightly before averting her gaze from his.
"Hello Yukito."
"Hi Rei, how are you feeling? Better I hope."
" I feel much better, arigoto."
"We were worried about you when you didn't show up to class."
"We?"
"Hai Touya, Akizuki, Sakura, Meiling, Li and me." He said blushing slightly after saying the last part
Rei bit her lip she could feel the blush spreading over her face and into her cheeks. She peered up through her bangs to see Yuki looking at her with such warm eyes it made her heart speed up.
"Oh."
It came out quiet and airy but she didn't care what she sounded like because for some reason she felt happy to know others cared for her. She shifted and was going to ask Yuki something when she felt the swing begin to move slightly a warm hand would touch the small of her back every so often.
`He's pushing me on the swing?'
Her face was red now but Yuki couldn't see it because her hair blocked her face from him. He wasn't sure why he was pushing her just felt the urge to, like it would comfort her somehow.
And if he had to admit it he rather enjoyed being able to have an excuse to touch, her even if it was for only a few seconds when he pushed her.
Rei just sat there enjoying the feel of the wind rushing through her hair and the feel of Yuki's hand on her back. She felt like she was dozing off when his voice broke through to her.
"Rei?"
"Hai?"
She noticed he had stopped pushing her and her swing was slowing down somewhat. She turned her head and glanced up at him her lavender eyes meeting his warm gray ones.
"I was wondering you never did answer that boys question from before...and…I was just wondering what would you have said?"
Rei looked at him not sure what he was talking about for a second until she remembered when Nakuru told them her and Yuki were going out. She blushed slightly then turned redder when she remembered what Yuki had said in the classroom after.
She took a deep breath and looked away. How was she supposed to answer that? Did she want to go out with Yuki? Did she even like him?
`Yes.'
Her eyes widened then relaxed, she did like him, a lot. So why shouldn't she go out with him. She looked up at him to see he was no longer looking at her but to the side a small frown seemed to crease his perfect features.
"Hai."
His head jerked around to look at her, she wasn't looking at him instead she was staring up at the sky chewing on her bottom lip.
"Yes, what?" he whispered afraid of what she might say
"Yes, I would like to go out with you. Yuki."
She said the last part a mere whisper but he heard it all the same his gray eyes lighting up a smile growing on his lips. Rei jumped up suddenly and whirled around to face him a slight blush on her cheeks.
"Yuki?"
"Hai."
He said not letting his gaze leave hers. She swallowed before licking her lips to speak.
"Doko…ano…where would you like to go?"
She asked the blush on her cheeks getting brighter and darker. For some reason he felt the urge to hold her becoming increasingly great and he had to place his hands behind his back to keep from pulling her to him.
"How about the movies, tomorrow at six, here?"
Rei smiled nodding her head in the positive before turning and saying good-bye. Yuki just stood there watching her go a smile on his face his eyes briefly flashing ice blue before returning to their normal gray.
--
The moon hung low in the sky barely a sliver of the pale moon shown among the stars. The new moon was over and soon the full moon would rise easing away Amaya's worries that came with it.
She was standing next to Ryuu sei on top of an office building; Li their master was across from them practicing his fighting skills. Ryuu sei had said it would help if they saw how much he had learned and what they needed to teach him. As far as Amaya could see his fighting skills and that with a sword were excellent it was the magic part his was lacking in.
"Amaya I want you to attack him."
"Nani?! Kichigai, I'm not going to attack my master."
"It's alright Amaya."
She turned towards her master giving him a skeptical look before heaving a sigh of defeat and going towards him.
Since the new moon phase was over she no longer had her tail, claws or anything remotely demon like save for her wings and ears. She padded silently over to him her robes swishing back and forth in the wind. She stood in front of him taking a deep breath she exhaled opening her eyes to stare into his.
It seemed as though time stood still for them right before chaos broke free and Amaya lunged towards her master preparing to strike however he dodged out of the way before swinging back and kicking her on the back of her knee knocking her down.
She ducked his fist before rolling away and sweeping his feet out from under him, he recovered by doing a back spring hunching low to attack again. This went on for a while until Ryuu sei called a halt to it.
"I wish to test your knowledge of magick."
Amaya looked at her a little wary before turning back towards her master. He nodded his head for her to continue, she held up her hand palm up and a dark green jewel appeared before separating into fragments she sent them flying towards Li.
He pulled out a talisman and a wall of fire surrounded him swallowing up the crystal shards. Then pulled out another one which when he tossed in the air lightening bolts rained down on them.
Amaya jumped back avoiding the lightening bolts at the same time firing off a green energy arrow at Li. He dodged it as it hit the ground leaving a scorch mark. Not wasting any time she pulled back and shot off another one followed by a bunch of green crystal shards.
Li looked up and dodged the second arrow however he wasn't able to dodge the onslaught of shards that flew at him. His clothes were torn and tattered when he emerged from the cloud of smoke.
"Master!"
Amaya shouted and rushed to his side worried she had hurt him. She knelt beside him and outstretched her hands a faint green-blue glow coming from them. She stood up and back off looking him over for any wounds when she found none she smiled then went back to apologizing.
"It's all right Amaya, I just wasn't fast enough to block that second attack."
"Gomen, Gomen nasai, Gomen master, I didn't mean to hurt you. Please-"
"Amaya."
She stopped immediately but her eyes were still saying sorry. Li just shook his head a grin on his face. Ryuu sei stood up and walked over to them.
"We will need to practice more on your magick attacks and blocks then the physical."
Li's face went serious as he nodded his head and prepared for another round.
