Day Out in the City

“I don't have to work today,” Syaoran said on a Sunday.

“Neither do I,” Sakura said.

“Let me take you out for lunch,” he said. “My treat.” Sakura looked up.

“Can we have pasta today?” she asked. Syaoran tapped her on the cheek.

“Of course,” he said. “Anything you like.” Sakura perked up.

They went down to a small Italian restaurant downtown. The couple ate outside. Syaoran picked up his menu. His fiance's tastes changed from week to week. Last week, Sakura wanted chicken. Syaoran was happy to aid her cravings.

“So what are you getting today?” Syaoran asked. Sakura looked at the specials.

“I don't know,” she said. “They look so good.” She swallowed back her drool. Syaoran chuckled.

“Just don't go crazy,” he said. “We're trying to save money here.”

“Okay, okay,” Sakura said. “What are you getting?”

“Don't know,” he said. The restaurant was starting to come to life. The wait staff rushed around with orders. Families sat inside and outside the restaurant. The couple's waitress came back with their drinks.

“Sorry about that,” she said. “Here you are.” Sparkling water for Sakura and cold tea for Syaoran.

“Are you ready to order or do you need a moment?” the waitress asked.

“No, we're ready,” Syaoran said.

“Great, what will you have?” she asked. “I'm going to have the lemon butter Tuscany chicken pasta,” he said. The waitress wrote down the order.

“Okay,” she said. She turned to Sakura.

“And you?” she asked. Sakura looked up.

“Ooo, that's tough. I'm torn between the sun-dried tomato penne and seafood pasta. What would you recommend?” the mother-to-be said. The waitress took a moment to think.

“Seafood is good, but I like the sun-dried tomato better,” she said.

“I'll have that then,” Sakura said. The waitress wrote down the order.

“Okay! I'll be back with your food shortly!” she said. She turned and walked back into the restaurant. Sakura turned to her fianc.

“What made you want to come out today?” she asked. Syaoran shrugged.

“Just felt like it,” he said.

“Can we have a small wedding?” she asked. “I'm not fond of a big lavish wedding. I wouldn't mind going to the courthouse.” Syaoran took her by the hand.

“Thank you,” she said. Syaoran smiled.

“Do you want to do anything else today?” he asked. Sakura shook her head.

“No?” he asked. She had her hand on her belly.

“I want to go home and nap,” she said. Her fianc couldn't help but laugh. That actually sounded like a good idea. The waitress came back with their food.

“Here you go. Enjoy,” she said.

“Thank you,” Syaoran said. The couple started to eat. It felt weird to eat paste with chopsticks but it tasted good, nevertheless.
