Kyokkou sat on a tree branch of a cherry tree. She stared down at her lap where the lilac colored cards lay inside the cloth. She wanted to understand everything about them, but if what her Dad said was true, they would truly be a large impact. She had enough drama in her life. Not just the fact of being picked on at school from being a misfit, but also from the guilt of her deceased mother.
Her lilac eyes wandered to the asphalt of the sidewalk as she placed the cards back in her pocket. The sun was about to go down, and her father would be worried if she were late.
She hopped down, landing gracefully on her feet as she began to walk down the sidewalk.
She began to walk slower as she looked up. She had a bad feeling in her stomach for a moment, her heart beginning to thump. Her eyes darted around quickly, turning around to look behind her.
That is when her father appeared behind her, grabbing her shoulder a bit too tightly as he turned her around.
“Kyokkou, you must go,” he said in a hoarse whisper. “You have to hide somewhere.”
Kyokkou felt confusion rise inside her, creating a lump in her throat. “Daddy? What—“
“Kyokkou, listen to me!” His voice raised two times the normal level, which was rare. He sighed, almost with a look of defeat. He'd have to do something in order to keep Kyokkou from getting hurt.
He pointed his index finger towards the top of the nearest cherry tree, a soft breeze coming across the two. Kyokkou's eyes followed curiously to where he pointed, staring at the black hole in the tree's trunk.
She felt her Father's arms wrap tightly around her waist, picking her up.
Then it dawned on her what it was--a portal to take her somewhere else. She began to scream out, kicking in dismay.
“No, Daddy! Please don't make me go! Let me help you!”
“You're not strong enough,” he said in a struggling voice. “Kyokkou, please, stop this.”
“NO!” She yelled out. “Don't make me do this! I don't want to! I DON'T WANT TO!”
He began to take quick steps towards the portal. He placed her down in front of it, kneeling by her, wrapping his arms around her.
“Remember what I told you earlier, Kyokkou,” he said in a breathe-y voice. “I love you.” He let his hug loosen, and then placed both hands on her shoulders.
She watched his sapphire eyes water as she pushed her back into the portal.
As she watched her father, a man had appeared behind him. One that looked awfully familiar—but soon, darkness cascaded her surroundings, and soon she left her conscious state.
