Chapter 2

The Lost Tribe

I looked around at my people gathered around a campfire, somewhere in middle of Mexico. One of the tribe elders stood with our tribe flag, circular white deer hide fabric set in a woven staff, on the canvas was the pictorial of many colored feet. This was the representation of us, The Wanderers. We have no language of our own, no land of our own, nothing, though we have come to live with the ideal of having a grand heritage to pride ourselves in was better then taking gullible peoples money. I walked about the encampment greeting others of the tribe or of my family, as well as visitors and prospective tribesmen who were trying to gain membership, which when not a birthright, wasn't easy, not that staying a member after birth was easy either, I should no that quite well. We were currently in the Great American Desert, but this meeting of ours could be held anywhere, forests, deserts, or any other sparsely populated areas.

"Anything troubling you my Grandson?" A slightly raspy, yet strong male voice asked.

My Grandfather, Elder Nathaniel Ravenwing, but one of the five elder/leaders of the tribe, the people who decided our laws and made sure the rest of us followed them. He was also my mentor, the man who taught me what it was to be a warrior and a shaman of our tribe, I care about him deeply.

"Nothing Grandfather, just contemplating what's to come of me," I replied in my low tenor, the development of my puberty.

"Ah, about your Spirit Quest, do you not think your ready for it?"

"No Grandfather, I am ready as I'll ever be, I am just in thought of where I will be sent."

The ancient man smiled down at my sixteen year old face, the face of a young man waiting for a challenge, wanting to see more of the world, and find out his purpose in life. "Where ever you must go remember your lessons, always carry the power of a warrior, the patience of a shaman, the wisdom of your elders, and the spirit of the raven until and after you find your personal guardian spirit." He then walks to where the other four elders sat, in the middle of the encampment, where they could be viewed with the light of the fire by all gathered.

I will review what I know of these events. I am a Shaman Warrior of the Wanderers, the Lost Tribe if you will. I am of the family Ravenwing; our family spirit is the raven. Every Warrior and Shaman must find his or her own personal guardian spirit, whom will aid them in their next phase of training. I am unique in that I am both warrior and shaman, I fight as well as use chanting and herbs to cast spells. A shaman can be for healing, spiritual fighting, enhancement of abilities, or a mix of all these traits. This means that I should eventually be able to mix both abilities and eventually create unique attacks that few will be able to copy.

"Jason Ravenwing, please come forth and except your Spirit Quest young Shaman Warrior!" This would be Hector Gentlebear, the best of our tribes healers, this is his specialty, he practices no other abilities.

I came forward and kneeled down before the five elders of my tribe. "I am here my elders, and I await your instructions."

They all smiled at one another, and nodded knowingly, they knew I wanted a challenge, and they wanted to give it to me. My Grandfather stood and glanced around at all assembled. "As the closest elder to young Jason I have been chosen to speak his mission." He locked eyes with me, and a look of worry and pride showed on his face. "Jason, you shall take your Spirit Quest to the Orient, where magic and martial ability abound, you will find your spirit no farther north then the uppermost point of China, and the southern most point of Japan, it is in this region you will be sent, be swift as the coyote, and as strong as the ox, and let you have peace."

A/N: Well, here's chapter two, I hope you like. I have made some revisions to chapter one, I have come to stick with Meiling as my spelling of choice, and will use the most popular spellings of each character for now on, and I revised the story method as well, it's more in Meiling's pov now, enjoy.
