1000 years into the future a dark wizard by the name of Draye opened the gates to the lands of darkness allowing demons to come forth and bring evil to the entire world. Draye believed he would be able to control these demons but their power was to great and he was destroyed.

A Great War between the demons and all mankind ensued. Destroying just about everything that humans had built up for so many centuries. Most of the land is either underwater or on the few decaying spots of land among the seas. Humans have been driven back and now live in small settlements scattered across the face of the earth. All hope is thought to be lost and it is believed that soon humans will reach extinction.

But there is a small hope among a remote few that the one called the Cardmaster will rise up and send the demons back to the dark lands from which they came. And this is where the story begins…

~*~

A group of what must have been at some point large building now stood crumbling and decayed upon a small expanse of land. Here sat a small settlement of humans. Huddled among the debris you could find traces of the inhabitants but the people themselves knew well enough to stay hidden at all times possible to avoid demons. Raids were commonplace and the mortality rate was high.

In one of the decaying buildings deep within the remains of the city there was a girl looking out towards the great expanse of grey churning waters from the 4th story window. The wind blew slightly, running its fingers through her long auburn hair but she made no move to brush it away from her face as it couldn't get anymore tangled than it already was. She sighed softly staring up at the dark sky. It never got light in this world, the great swirling clouds above showed how truly off kilter the forces of nature were. They swirled and churned either a deep purple or an angry red. The water always was grey and turbulent and the wind often howled setting up great storms.

The young woman was in her early twenties but her dirty, tired face, tangled hair and ragged clothing made her look somewhat older. Only her eyes were young and alive flashing a brilliant emerald. These eyes now surveyed the streets below a sight both depressing and reassuring. Depressing because there were no humans in sight and reassuring because there was no demons either.

Suddenly a movement was heard behind the woman and she was quickly on her feet, muscles tense and eyes flashing. The movement came from another young woman coming into the room. She had long dark and tangled hair reaching down past her waist and deep amethyst eyes, which made a startling contrast to her pale skin. She jumped slightly at her companions sudden movement but then smiled

"Don't worry Sakura, it's only me."

Sakura relaxed at the sight of her best friend Tomoyo. They had been living together since childhood and were very close like sisters.

"Sorry Tomoyo but you can't really help being a little jumpy in these times."

Tomoyo gave a small nod of acknowledgement before crossing the room to pull the makeshift curtain over the single window that Sakura had been looking out of. Tomoyo frowned slightly.

"Sakura you know you shouldn't have the window unscreened like this! What if there had been demons out?" Her usually soft, melodic voice came a little sharper.

"I'm sorry Tomoyo," came Sakura's rather meek reply

"You were looking out at the ocean again weren't you Sakura?" Tomoyo asked

"Yes I keep dreaming that some great and powerful savior will come across the water and rescue us all from the demons." Sakura smiled sadly before saying

"Pretty silly huh?"

Tomoyo smiled slightly

"At least you have hope in a place where there is none. You have a light in you Sakura when all about you is darkness. I envy that about you sometimes Sakura." Tomoyo looked sad, her eyes were far away but then she suddenly seemed to snap out of her reverie. Smiling fully she turned to Sakura

"But hey while we wait for this great Savior of yours how about we have something to eat?"

Sakura nodded

"Kay."

The silence of the streets was suddenly broken by the sounds of footsteps. Out of the shadows there appeared three figures walking side by side through the deserted streets. They appeared to be looking for something their gazes jumping from building to building. Curious eyes peered out from hiding places whispering to each other, wondering what kinds of nutcases were wondering around in the open.

They were not dressed in the tattered rags found on all humans living in the settlements. All three of the strangers were females appearing to be in their late teens early twenties. They were all dressed in the same attire of a cream shirt over dark grey pants. Over this they wore long navy coats that concealed the blaster guns at their belts and also gloves. Their hair was not matted or tangled but smooth and shiny. One of the women had short, dark brown hair which, curled around her face and equally dark eyes, she was of elegant appearance and the tallest of the three women making her seem older than she really was. The second girl also had brown hair and eyes but of a lighter shade and her hair was done up in two braids giving her a somewhat childlike appearance. The last woman had straight shoulder length brown hair and her brown eyes were framed by round glasses.

The woman with the pigtails stopped walking and placed her hands on her hips.

"Rika, are you sure we are going to find the Cardmaster here?"

The other two women stopped and the taller, curly haired one named Rika spoke up.

"Chiharu for the last time yes!" She exclaimed a little exasperated

Chiharu frowned slightly before speaking again.

"It just seems strange to find the Cardmaster in such a place."

The woman in the glasses named Naoko now spoke

"Eriol and Syaoran both sensed a strong magical aura here and both believe this is where the card master is situated."

Chiharu sighed putting her hands up in defeat. Rika turned to Naoko.

"Perhaps we should check the stone again now before going any further."

With a nod Naoko reached into her coat and pulled out a ruby red stone attached to a black string. Holding it out at arms length she pointed it at the surrounding buildings. When it reached the building to their left the stone came to life pulsing with a deep pink light and illuminating Naoko's palm.

"There," she said looking up at the building

They all regarded the building before Chiharu spoke up

"Well I guess we better start searching the building."

Rika blinked then nodded

"Yes, let's get to it then."

All three women then disappeared into the building intent on completing their mission and finding the only one capable of saving them all.

~*~

Sakura and Tomoyo had just finished eating when they heard echoing footsteps in the hall outside their door. Both women were immediately on their feet and alert, staring intently at the door.

"Demons Sakura?" Asked Tomoyo eyes large with fear.

"No I don't think so, it sounds more like human footsteps but how could that be? No one around here owns shoes."

The steps stopped outside their door, there was a tense pause before the door opened revealing a young woman with dark eyes and short hair that curled around her face. The stranger gave a small gasp when she saw them and for a moment both parties just stood stock-still. Staring at each other.

~*~

Rika walked down the hallway on the forth floor of the building the previous floors had all been deserted and in bad shape but this one seemed in better condition. Though that wasn't really saying very much, this place was a dump. The building must have been a motel or something at one point as there were many hallways with doorways leading to separate rooms. Most of the rooms had collapsed, the wooden floors were rotten and Rika was in constant danger of falling right through the floor. Not to mention the whole place smelt like crap. But then Rika spotted a door that was actually in its doorway, sure the door was rotten and old but maybe the room beyond held people. Rika quickly walked up to the door and was just about to push it open when she heard the sounds of movement from within. Whether it was human or demon she couldn't tell but she held her hand close to her blaster gun and got ready to run before she pushed open the door.

She found two women standing before her one with dark hair and amethyst eyes the other with auburn hair and emerald eyes. Both had very tangled hair, dirty skin and ragged clothes that barely covered the necessities. She gave a small gasp of shock when she saw them and then both groups just studied each other for a moment.

~*~

Rika recovered first. Turning back into the hallway she yelled out

"Chiharu! Naoko! I've found some!"

More hurried footsteps before her two companions appeared behind her. All three women then stepped over the threshold and into the room before Rika spoke.

"Check the stone Naoko."

The stone was again taken out and pointed at Sakura who was standing defensively in front of Tomoyo. It gave off a blinding pink flash for instant creating dark shadows on the walls before once again going back to its dormant red.

"She's the one alright." Naoko said placing the stone back in her pocket

"So the Masters really a Mistress how cool!" chirped Chiharu

Breaking her own silence Sakura spoke up

"Excuse me for asking but would you mind explaining who you are, what you're doing here and what you're talking about?"

"Oh of course I'm sorry! Yes my name is Rika and these are my colleagues Chiharu and Naoko. We come from the ship the 'Icebreaker' under instructions from our commander Eriol. We were sent to find the Cardmaster-the magical being who is said to be the one who shall purge the world of darkness and bring hope back to the earth…and we believe that you are this person Miss…um?"

"Sakura. My name is Sakura and this is my friend Tomoyo." Sakura said curtly. Rika smiled and nodded

"An honor and a pleasure to meet you Miss Sakura."

Rika stepped forward and extended her arm in a gesture of friendship. In doing so her coat moved aside exposing her silver blaster gun at her belt. Sakura noticed this and quick as a flash she seized the weapon from Rika's belt before moving back and pointing it at Rika. Rika stepped back in surprise while Chiharu and Naoko both drew their weapons causing Tomoyo to give out a cry of panic. Sakura on the other hand was glaring daggers at Rika trying to seem brave though her hands were shaking.

"What are you trying to pull!" She hissed

"You come here with some crap fairytale and you actually expect me to believe you!? Who are you really? You must be working for the demons or something and I swear that if you are you have about 5 seconds to live!"

"Shit Rika do something already! This chick looks serious!" Chiharu warned

Rika straightened her shoulders trying to regain her composure.

"Miss Sakura please put down the gun. I in no way wish to hurt you. You know very well that demons to not ally themselves with humans so that puts us on the same side. We shouldn't be enemies, so please trust us. We only want to help so please give me the gun and come with us. Surely there is no arm in hearing us out and if you don't agree at the end then by all means you can return here and resume the rest of your lives and you'll never hear from us again. Please Miss Sakura?"

"Yeah Sakura come join with us." Chiharu added

"Surely anything is better than living here for the rest of your lives?" Naoko reasoned

Sakura thought for a moment. She was sure these women were not allied wit the demons and seemed trustworthy enough. Plus they did have a good point. Sakura closed her eyes in resignation before disarming the blaster and tossing it back to Rika

"Fine I'll come but I'm not agreeing to anything yet."

Chiharu and Naoko both sighed in relief and lowered their blasters. Rika smiled before turning her face towards Tomoyo.

"Your friend is also more than welcome to join us if she so desires."

Tomoyo nodded dumbly obviously still terrified. Naoko who had remained relatively quiet during the whole affair now spoke up.

"I think it would be best if we hurried on back to the ship now so as not to attract any unwanted attention"

Rika frowned slightly

"Yes you are right."

She turned back to Sakura and Tomoyo her placid smile back on her face.

"If you wouldn't mind following us now we are a little pressed for time."

Giving a glance to Chiharu and Naoko whom turned and walked out into the hallway. Rika then gestured for Sakura and Tomoyo to follow. Sakura realized that Rika was undoubtedly the leader of this little group and followed obediently, Tomoyo close behind.

Rika paused slightly before turning and walking out of the room.

The group of women hurried along the cracked concrete streets keeping to the great overhanging shadows of the surrounding buildings. Moving as silently as possible. They were making for the edge of the settlement where concrete suddenly dropped off into the choppy waters of the ocean. They were taking what could be considered the man road, which ran straight down the middle of the settlement. It had alleyways coming off running off in all-different directions making it easy to get lost in the many walls and debris. Suddenly Chiharu and Naoko stopped dead in their tracks hands hovering above their blasters.

"What's happening? Why have we stopped?" asked Sakura.

"Shhh listen!" Chiharu said shortly.

Rika quickly came up from the rear to stand next to her companions. Listening intently the figures stood shock stick barely daring to breathe. Faintly sounds could now be heard. A faint slithering sound accompanied by the soft thuds of footsteps. Then deformed grotesquely shaped shadows appeared on the wall in front of them.

"Demons!!!" cried out Chiharu.

"Shit." Muttered Rika looking around for alternative routes.

"Sakura!" cried out Tomoyo softly.

Sakura turned to her friend her eyes showed she was terrified taking her hand and squeezing it slightly. Sakura smiled reassuringly.

"It's alright Tomoyo, we'll be alright." She said softly.

But things seemed to be far from all right for the group for now the demons turned a corner and became visible. As soon as they saw the group the demons started hissing loudly creating a sound much like that of a snakes. They formed a single word from their mouths, which they always cried when they found new prey,

"Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat!!! MEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The demons were marching closer and your could see their hideous features in greater detail. Looking a little like oversized rodents standing on two legs but running on four, demons had long muscular bodies, powerful back legs with webbed feet and a long thick tail that they used for propelling themselves through the water at terrifying speeds. Long front limbs with six-inch claws for tearing open flesh, matted brown fur covered most of their bodies and they had grotesque facial features with angry, red bloodlusting eyes, short snouts with large noses and a mouth full of razor sharp fangs. The skin and fur of the face were sunken and decayed from spending all their time underwater and in some places had rotted completely off leaving patches on bony skulls visible.

The demons were moving down the road faster now working themselves up for the kill. Rika sprang into action, drawing her blaster she turned to regard her companions.

"Naoko take Sakura and Tomoyo through the alleys to the ship!"

"Don't be stupid Rika we can't leave you hear!"

"We will be fine! Chiharu and I will try to hold them off for as long as possible. But getting Sakura and Tomoyo off this rock is of the utmost importance!"

Naoko growled slightly before gesturing for Sakura and Tomoyo to follow before hurrying off down the nearest alley. Soon the sound of shots being fired and enraged shrieks of pain and rage were heard behind them. Gradually getting further away.

~*~

Naoko lead them through countless alleyways. Twisting and turning she would pause occasionally listening for the sounds of the waves to lead them in the right direction. The adrenaline coursing through their bodies gave them speed and stamina and left no room to think. Suddenly they burst out of an alley to be met with a great expanse of ocean. They had reached the edge of the settlement. Naoko scanned the waters. Where was it!!!!!!!!!! The ship was nowhere to be seen. Panicking slightly she desperately searched their surroundings looking for a sign, any sign. It had been a while since she had heard signs of the battle and she had no idea about the conditions her friends were in.

"I'm sure Rika and Chiharu are alright and on their way now Naoko." Tomoyo said sensing her desperation

Naoko mearly nodded. Closing her eyes and forcing herself to calm down. Suddenly the sounds of hurried footsteps and a very tired and flustered Chiharu and Rika ran from the alley opening. Relief coursed through Naoko, Sakura and Tomoyo at the sight of the two alive and in one piece but it was short lived.

"Where's Eriol?!" Chiharu cried out

"I don't know, he should be here." Naoko exclaimed

"Shit! This could be big trouble. We couldn't hold off the demons for very long and they're hot on our heels and in greater numbers than I anticipated." Rika panted trying to remain calm

As if on cue the bloodcurdling hissing starting again though this time it took on an even more frightening pitch. The demons came in from all directions, effectively blocking off all means of escape. The group was stuck between the ocean and the demons.

Rika, Chiharu and Naoko stepped in front of Sakura and Tomoyo, drawing their weapons determined to make a last stand. At this the demons pounced and the women starting shooting. Bolts of light were emitted from their blasters ripping in to the demons at the fronts. Bodies, limbs, heads all exploded on impact, the concrete was soon painted dark crimson and bodies littered the ground. But for every demon destroyed another took its place and the situation was ultimately a lose/lose situation. Sakura and Tomoyo stood back from the battle watching hopelessly.

"Oh god Sakura we can't win!!!" Tomoyo was in tears

Sakura hugged her friend as if saying goodbye.

"I'm sorry you got dragged into this Tomoyo."

Tomoyo shook her head.

"It was inevitable this would happen eventually Sakura."

But it seems that hope was not completely lost for then the waters behind them started to churn and a great ship burst through the waters surface. On the side facing them there was two energy guns and these were quickly aimed and then fired pelting the demons with massive bolts of pure energy. Shrieks of agony ripped through the air as blood splattered the pavement thickly and craters appeared in the ground. Sensing they were now outmatched the demons gave one great shriek of rage before disappearing back into the alleyways.

Turning around the women now regarded the ship.

"Yeah Eriol!!!!!!!" Yelled Chiharu

"Thank god for that!" breathed Rika

Sakura and Tomoyo gazed in awe at the huge ship floating in the water. It was unlike anything they had ever seen before. Large and very long and grey with a pointed nose and streamlined shape. It had the word 'Icebreaker' inscribed on the hull. A noise of grinding metal sounded from the top and out jumped another young woman. Dressed a short, red oriental style dress with black pants underneath the woman walked to the side of the ship and sent across a bridge for them to climb across. In doing this her features came into more detail. She had long raven hair that was styled in two odongos on the top of her head and fiery red eyes.

"Hey guys!!!!" She yelled across at them

"Shit Meilin!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took you long enough!!!" Chiharu yelled across before walking across the bridge with everyone else behind her.

"Hey not my fault. Blame Nakaru, she's the one driving this tincan."

"Right." muttered Chiharu

Meilin was busy studying Sakura and Tomoyo.

"So which one of you is the Cardmaster?"

"Oh yes meet Sakura and Tomoyo. Sakura is the Cardmaster…mistress really."

Meilin grinned

"Nice to meet you girls. I'm Meilin Li the local wench."

She shook both Sakura and Tomoyo's hand before saying. Sakura was a little taken aback by this loud, flamboyant girl in front of her.

"Well there's no use just standing here. Eriol want to see you all so lets hop to it then."

She then turned and walked to the hatch before dropping down it followed by everyone else one by one. When they all had climbed down the hatch it closed. Shortly the ships motors whirred to life and it dropped neatly below the surface leaving only a ripple as evidence of its presence there at all.
