Pheonix switched on the light and motioned for Rei to take a seat.

"Where are we?" she asked as she sat down. "The air feels different."

"We're on Earth. You'll get used to the atmosphere," Pheonix replied.

"Why Earth?"

"Because Vicious has land here. I don't know how he managed to find a spot free of meteor showers, but..."

A crash was heard in the distance and Rei cried. Pheonix watched her for a moment, then unbuttoned his shirt. He lit a cigarette and stretched his legs out on a table in front of him.

"Are you trying to be enticing?" Rei asked and Pheonix grinned.

"Not at all. I'm trying to be comfortable," he said. Rei looked at him for a moment then turned her attention to the window.

"I hope he's all right."

"You can hear him, can't you?"

"Yes...but why can't I hear your thoughts?"

"I'm not going to tell you that. That's my secret."

"Can you at least tell me if it's scientific or natural?"

"It's not natural, I'll tell you. But that's all I'm going to say and I know you don't like that."

"It just makes me nervous. I mean, there's nothing stopping you from raping me."

"You're lucky that women don't interest me. You see I'm more the beastiality type."

"What?"

He laughed and Rei glared at him. What was so funny?

"You don't get it, do you? Of course, that may be the problem. You were getting it when I was doing Faye Valentine," he said.

"Not funny. I don't feel comfortable here. Especially with you," Rei said and Pheonix shrugged his shoulders.

"Well don't worry about it. You don't spark any interest from me. Not much, anyway."

"I wish he wasn't doing all this on my account."

"This problem has been waiting to detonate long before he actually knew you."

"I'm sure he didn't have to worry about his position, then."

"Not as much as he does now, no. But from what I know from both groups origins, this problem has gone on for quite a long time. Rivalry, I guess, although I've heard a little bit more about Seija, the Blue Dragons lead."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I don't know much about Vicious' younger days, but I think they were together once. At least, that's what my sources say and they're not all that reliable..."

"Is that why she wants me so badly? Revenge?"

"Hey, didn't I just say that my sources aren't reliable? I don't know what her motivation is behind her wanting you dead. But I do know that there was a reason why he wanted you do far away."

"I can't let him go like this."

"I never said he was going to die."

"What are you doing now?"

"If you must know, I'm going to take a shower. Should I strip for you now or wait until later?"

"What?"

"I see the look in your eye. You'd like to see the body of a male from your species again, wouldn't you? I mean humans are fine, but they're not you're people."

"I realize that but..."

"You're worried that it would lead to something more. I'm not going to take advantage of you. I'm not stupid. I'll let you see my assets but that's it."

She looked at him for a moment then watched him undress. He stood tall and Rei stared at him. It had been so long since she had her species that she had almost forgotten what one had looked like.

"If you stare any longer, I'll have to charge you," Pheonix said.

"What?" Rei asked and Pheonix grinned.

"Forget it. I wasn't serious. At least not completely serious. So, what do you think?"

"About you?"

"About my physique, yes."

"I like it. I don't have to show you my body now, do I?"

"I've already seen it."

"How?"

"Skylight on the roof. I was patrolling when you were getting laid one night. I do have a question, though. The scar on your neck, what sort of weapon caused it?"

"Please don't ask about that," Rei said and Pheonix watched her turn away from him.

"I thought he couldn't kill you."

"It wasn't Vicious! It was my father. He was doing something illegal and I found out."

"What happened to him?"

"I...I can't tell you."

She began crying as the awful memory surfaced. The horror and pain that she felt when she realized just what her father truly cared for became new again and she so wanted someone that could comfort her. She wanted someone whose scars ran just as deep as hers but she knew that the only one with scars as deep as hers was on Jupiter, fighting for her safety.

"Hey, it's all right," Pheonix said and Rei shook her head.

"You...you don't know what it was like. You don't know what I saw and heard..."

She gulped in hysteria and grabbed onto his waist. The Taliban watched her as she pressed her face into his skin. A little lower and if she were in the right mood, it would definitely add some heat to the room, Pheonix noted but now was not the time for such thoughts. Especially not with this woman. He knew that she was the reason why his predecessor had gotten killed. He gently pushed her away and walked over to the refrigerator. He took out a bottle of wine, opened it, and poured some into a glass. He handed it to Rei, who had calmed down slightly.

"Drink this. I'm afraid you need something a little harder, but that's all there is," he said and she took it from his hand.

"Thank you. I'm sorry for acting the way I was. I'm glad Vicious isn't here. He'd definitely have the wrong idea about this. You in the nude handing me a glass of wine..."

"Just drink it. I'm going to the shower."
