Fantasy's Willful Heart

Chapter Twelve:

The Plan

Kagome grits her teeth while firing one of her last arrows at a demon bat, only to have several more demons take its place, “There's too many of them!”
“Don't ya think I know that,” Inuyasha growls at Kagome, swinging his sword and managing to kill a great number of them without any real improvement.
“There must be thousands,” Shippo shouts, ducking as a small colony of bat demons fly over him.
Miroku closes his wind tunnel with a fierce frown, “It's no good! There're way too many for me to even suck them up!”
“Come on Ah-Un,” Rin commands the dragon demon, helping Serenity to get on as Ah-Un takes to the air a bit higher than the mass swarm of demons in order to get to safety.
“What should we do Sheila,” Kelson commandingly asked, killing off demons with a sword that he had the common sense to buy at Keade's Village in the new navy blue kimono that Sheila bought him.
“I'm thinking! I'm thinking,” Sheila exclaims, also overwhelmed by the sear number of demons pouring in and out of the strike range of the Moon Sword.
It felt like forever to Sheila that they've been traveling in demon infested forests and sleep seemed like a dream. Inuyasha had told her that they were very close, but there was a catch to the last part of the route.

Bat Demons were mostly wicked noise-makers at best and annoying little thieves at worse.

But they were known to live very close to Tsutoni Village and didn't take too highly to travelers.
“I swear to god dat I'll pray at least once a week if these damn bats go away,” Joey shouts, dodging a girl bat demon that's taken to pulling at his hair, “Leave me alone!”
“It's alright Joey,” Sheila glares over at Hiei sitting calmly on the branch watching the commotion, “Hiei!”
“What?”
“If you don't help us right now, I'm gonna show you how much harder a moccasin is to sneakers!”
Hiei sighs with a sweatdrop, “Forced into labor by a shoe,” he grumbles.
“Dammit just do it,” Keiko now screams, ducking low to the ground in order to avoid the claws of the demons.
Jumping off the tall branch into the mist of bat demons, Hiei seems to explode in a bright ring of fire, burning and cooking every demon within range. Frightened, the remaining demons make a run (or should I say fly?) for safety away from the dark fire demon.
Sheila blinks at him, “Remind me to ask you what the hell you really are.”
“We don't have time for this,” Sango says anxiously, “we need to hurry before they come back!”
“She's right,” Sheila nods to Inuyasha, “we don't have time to lose!”
Running through a darkness as strange and mysterious as death itself, it doesn't take the gang long to collapse in front of the village in pure exhaustion.
Still a bit out of breath, Inuyasha, Kagome, Vickie and Sheila are the first to recover, looking around nervously at the peaceful homes and cozy sounds within.
“Well,” Sango glances wondrously at everything, “we're here I guess.”
Sheila takes in the peaceful sight of a tiny bridge with sparkling water underneath teeming with fish. She walks into the village with a smile at the toys discarded on the ground by hurrying kids, the little shops and tents housing salesmen and saleswomen scattered all over the lush green of the valley, and stands in complete awe at the sear size of the village that seems to go uphill and downhill with beautiful farmland and welcoming trees.
“It's beautiful,” she whispers when Inuyasha stands beside her, “not even Keade's village looks like this!”
“That's because there aren't enough young people living in Keade's Village to make it look something like this,” Vickie explains, also looking around in amazement, “I hope the people are friendly.”
“They are,” Sesshomaru says, nodding his head at a few villagers staring curiously at them from their homes.
“Someone better go up and talk to them,” Miroku suggests, not really surprised when Sheila starts to wander towards a villager before he even finishes his suggestion. She walks with carefully shown friendliness and ease to a man standing by his door with what looks to be his son and daughter gripped onto both legs in fear and fascination.
With a soft clanging sound coming from her armor and weapons, Sheila pulls out some money and bows to the gentleman.
“Greetings sir,” She says, smiling at the shy brunet boy and the braver and older looking red haired girl that both share the same pretty hazel-blue eyes as the young man looking Sheila up and down in obvious intrigue, “we mean no harm. We are travelers, tired and hungry from a long journey. Is it possible that you could point me to an inn or someplace to stay the night in your humble village?”
The man bows back with a warm smile, “Greetings. I am Dashiki and this is my son and daughter Tsunami and Mika,” he points to one of the larger looking homes just a few houses down, “we have several inns, but that is by far our best one that includes extra services like a hot mud bath or even a hot springs bath and message,” Dashiki shakes his head when Sheila offers to pay him for helping her, “no need to pay me. Save your money for the inn!”
“Thank you so much Dashiki,” Sheila bows again, “may Buddha always have many blessings for your family.”
Dashiki bows once more, watching as what he thought to be some kind of beautiful young warrior princess goes back to her crew of fighters to tell the news of the inn…

“I think I've got a plan.”
Vickie glances sleepily over at Sheila from her futon, “What is it?”
“I'm not sure if it's gonna work,” Sheila starts in a loud whisper, quickly looking over at Inuyasha sleeping in his usual Indian-style sitting position against the wall before turning back to Vickie with a blush, “and the fact that he's a dog doesn't make it sound very easy either.”
“Oh plah,” Vickie sticks her tongue out and flicks her hand over at her brother, “it's not that he isn't easy, he's just a stubborn pain in the ass is all.”
Sheila stifles a giggle before smiling, “You know the pack order, right?”
Vickie blinks, “The pack-what?”
“The pack order,” Sheila repeats, “you know; the omega, delta and the alpha…that kind of thing.”
“Do you mean the ranks and statuses?”
“Yeah,” Sheila nods, “I was thinking about how some animals that live in groups will sometimes accept an outside member if it can somehow find a way to get one or all of the members of the group to accept it in.”
Vickie nods, “Yeah, it happens sometimes,” she then narrows her eyes, “but what exactly does that have to do with helping my brother? You don't really expect to find some random outside girl to take him away from The Bitch, now do you?”
Sheila once again forces herself not to laugh, “Now when would I have the time to find a suitable girl that you wouldn't try to kill?”
“I don't know,” Vickie smirks, “you got Yoshimura and that Big Mouth kimono saleswoman to become your friend in just one day! How do I know you didn't grab hold of some extra time to magically meet some girl to take your place in seducing my brother?”
Sheila raises an eyebrow with slight sarcasm, “You mean like how you magically met me?”
Vickie blushes, “Touchy,” she exclaims, “I'll have you know my search was very scientific.”
Sheila rolls her eyes, “You're search was about as scientific as a little kid who just happens to run into the cookie jar he's been hunting for all year!”
Vickie pouts, “Give me a break! It's hard as hell to go woman-shopping for my brother,” she makes a face, “his taste is so…yuck!”
“Hey,” Sheila glares playfully, “as a pretend girlfriend I resent that remark.”
Sheila's new friend seems to suddenly glow with bright eyes, “So you weren't just saying you'd help me just to be saying it? You'll really help me?!”
“Yeah, yeah, I'll help you,” Sheila crosses her arms and pouts, “but it's only because no one should have to endure my evil sister.”
Vickie smiles happily, “It's OK if you really like my brother! I don't mind!”
Sheila stutters in frustration and nervousness, “I-I don't like your brother! He-he's too rude and annoying!”
“Maybe,” Vickie confesses, “but you'll never know until you really have a talk with him.”
“Which is why I need you to help me,” Sheila quickly says, glad to get off the subject of rather or not she really liked Inuyasha, “I can't reach him the way we are now. My sister is way too powerful,” she sighs sadly, “and every one of Inuyasha's friends love her.”
“I don't!”
Sheila smiles a little at that, “Yeah, I'm glad you don't.”
“So,” Vickie excitedly comes over to Sheila, wearing only the pants and bra of her kimono as night clothes, “what's your plan?”
“I-I need to set the others up.”
Vickie tilts her head in the classical confused-puppy fashion, “Huh?”
“I need to set them up,” Sheila explains, “With everyone still being friends with Kagome, I'll have little chance of getting with Inuyasha and actually keeping him.”
Vickie nods to herself, “True.”
“So I was thinking,” Sheila continues, “maybe I can somehow trick or earn my way into being everyone's friend and make them promise not to interfere.”
“That's a great idea,” Vickie smiles, “If everyone is your friend AND Kagome's friend, then they won't know who to really help out and they may actually stay out of the way.”
“Or even better,” Sheila smirks, “they'll just help me.”
Now Vickie frowns, “How the hell are you gonna to do that?! Sango is like her best-best friend. Miroku likes Sango, so he won't go against her and he does kinda like Kagome too.”
“Ewww.”
“Yeah, I know,” Vickie sighs, “Shippo loves her because she acts like a mommy to him and spoils him with candy and protection from Inuyasha sometimes. Although she isn't a real big part of the group, even Kirara may cause trouble if she finds out and decides to warn Sango while you're trying to make out with my brother!”
Sheila blushes a bright red, “Now wait a minute! I didn't say I'd make out with him!”
Vickie crosses her arm with a satisfied grin, “You have to.”
“Wha-why?!”
“Because that's what boyfriend and girlfriend do once in a while.”
“Fine, but I'm not kissing him,” Sheila stubbornly whines.
Vickie blinks at her like she's stupid, “Sheila, making out iskissing. Duh!”
“What about….well,” Sheila becomes quiet as she turns even more red.
Vickie stares at her for a second before smiling ear to ear, “You don't have to really be doing it, but you should at least try to fake it!”
Sheila glances sullenly at her friend, “You better hope that this is all worth it, or we're gonna be fighting till kingdom come!”
Vickie winces in imaginary pain at the thought of Sheila chasing her with a shoe, “it's worth it,” she says quickly, “Trust me.”
Sheila gives in reluctantly, “Alright, alright. Anyways,” she forces herself to go on, “the only issue with this plan is that we need to start from the bottom to the top of the ranks if we can.”
“And who can be any lower than Miroku,” Vickie says cheerfully, “he'll be so easy!”
Sheila cocks her head to the side, “How so?”
Vickie chuckles wickedly, “You'll see, my pretty friend, you'll see.”
“…oh no…”…
