The sun rose on the horizon, casting the sleeping city into shadows, and throwing its beautiful golden rays across the sky, dying each cloud red and gold. Birds chirped in welcome to the new day, making tons of noisy songs flitter down to disturb many from their dreams.
A red haired boy lie awake in his bed, not because the birds had awoken him, since they didn't. No he, Daisuke Niwa, had fallen out of bed really hard after a nightmare, having made his awakening a non too pleasant one.
The red eyed, red haired beauty was easily able to cope with it as he tended to klutz out rather frequently. Though his counter-part was indeed having a great time laughing at him for actually falling out of bed like a clown, and said between bits of laughter. `Didn't your mom... tell you that you must always... be elegant and poised, even ...when falling down ... like a clown!! You were flailing... like a mad man!!' Dark told him mentally as only thoughts could escape him when he was not in charge of Niwa's body.
“At least no one, but you saw me fall.” Pouted the red head rather sheepishly, feeling somewhat embarrassed, while he rubed his left hand over the back of his neck. `So what were you dreaming about?' Dark asked, having finally managed to get his laughter under control.
“I.... Uh .... can't remember.” Daisuke answered with a nervous laugh, as a flush dominated his cheeks. Dark fell down in the confines of their mind, a twitch visible above his left eye. “Eh...eh...eh...” Daisuke laughed nervously before he stood and looked around at his alarm clock. He noticed the time and he looked towards his closet. Daisuke moved forward before he froze in mis-step. “Uh... Dark... Why are you so.... quiet?” The innocent red head questioned, waiting for his curse's response.
Silence was his only reply and he naturally began to panic. “Dark!? Dark?!?!?! DARK!?!?!?” He shouted loudly as beads of nerve induced sweat coursed down his face. 'Shut up alright! I'm trying to sleep!' The phantom thief growled mentaly, much to the relief of Daisuke. “Sorry...” He apologized before he continued to his closet and opened the door.
After reaching in, Daisuke retrieved his school uniform, and moved over to the bathroom. He then entered inside, before closing and lockign the door behind him. He proceeded to remove his baby blue button up pyjama top, before his matching pants joined them in a heap on the floor. Moments later his deep blue silk boxers joined the messy pile before he turned on the hot water for his shower.
He steped into the steaming waters, and sighed, feeling relaxed as the beads of water beat gently against his skin, which gave him a slightly red appearance from the temperature. He plucked the shampoo off the shelf and placed a generous amount in his palm before putting the bottle back. After he rubbed his hands together for a few moments, then applied the soapy mixture to his crimson locks. The cinamon scent of his shampoo filled the air.
The fourteen year-old boy gently massaged his scalp while working the bubbly soap through his thick hair. Once he was certain his hair could be no cleaner, he rinsed it throughly until there was no evidence of the shampoo, save the scent which seemed to cling to him. He then proceeded to using the conditioner, and repeated the same actions he used when he washed his hair. The he rinsed his hair a second time, now satisfied with its cleanliness.
Daisuke picked up his blue wash cloth and applied some body wash to it before he moved on to scrub his tanned and now slightly red skin until it became more red then the temperature had originaly made it. The teen finished his shower, and slowly turned the water off, before stepping out of the shower and grabbing the nearest towel.
The adolescent dried himself off and wraped his towel snugly around his head to dry his hair, before quickly throwing on his normal school uniform. He then placed the towel back onto its rack, before he shock his head and brushed his hair. His hair pouffed up into its normal hairstyle and Daisuke regarded himself closely in the slightly fogged up mirror.
He quickly put his watch onto his wrist before picking up his clothing and exiting the steamy bathroom. He headed back to his room and droped his dirty clothing into a heap in his laundry basket. His eyes then widened as he noticed the time. “If I don't hurry I'll be late!” He shouted in a panicked voice as his crimson eyes grew larger.
Dark who was officially awake sighed and said, `Remember Daisuke you have that English assignment to present today.....' The tamer snatched his bag hurriedly off the floor and raced full speed out of his room and down the stairs into the kitchen.
Emiko looked up at her son as he entered the room and smiled brightly before bidding him good morning. After the morning greeting she handed him his lunch which was neatly wrapped. He happily accepted his lunch and placed it into his bag before picking up Wiz and placing him on his shoulder. He then grabed a handful of succulent strawberries and raced out the door. “Bye Mom! Bye Grandpa!” He shouted after himself as the door closed behind him. He rushed headlong down the sidewalk heading towards school not wanting to be late.
Wiz --his little white rabbit creature-- held tightly onto his shoulder as his red eyes lingered on the strawberries in his master's hand. “Kyuu...” Wiz made his normal sound and Daisuke looked down at him, smiling brightly at him. “Oh! You want a strawberry!” He said happily as he held one in front of Wiz's mouth. The little creature's tail wagged as it bit the small strawberry and proceeded te delicatly devour it.
Daisuke raced into the school grounds having made it to school in record time, most likely from all the training he has done as he grew up, and from when he became the Phantom Thief Dark. He slowed his pace down as he entered into the school building, climbed the steps and moved down the hall until he reached the door to his classroom. After he slid it open, he stepped into the class, and saw his entire class standing around in their groups of friends talking.
He let a slight sigh escape his lips as he walked over to his desk, and sat down. Daisuke looked around the class momentarily, and his eyes landed on Riku. A light flush covered his cheeks as he watched her, but then he shook his head and continued to let his eyes roam around the buzzing classroom.
Deep red eyes landed on Satoshi the child prodigy who was sitting quietly in his desk reading a thick book. Daisuke tilted his head to the side. `He always confuses me.... He is so quiet and distant to people sometimes, but he is really kind and considerate. I'm glad he is my friend.' He told his counterpart, who, in reply, rolled his eyes.
A loud bang, the sound of something smashing into his desk, startled him, and he turned around and sees Takeshi standing in front of him both hands flat on the surface of his desk. “Daisuke, my assignment will be the best! The teacher wanted us to write a poem about anything, and use our feelings to make it even greater!” Takeshi exclaimed happily as he pulled Daisuke into a head lock.
"Takeshi!! I.... can't breath!” Shouted Daisuke as many of the students turned to see what's happening. Satoshi looked up and observed the interaction between Inspector Saehara's son, and both his mortal enemy, and friend.
The bell rang, and all the students proceeded to their desks, as their teacher entered into the room. She smiled brightly at them. “Good morning class!” She said in a hyper voice, and the whole class responded, “Good morning.” She walked over to the chalk board and wrote on it. English Poetry Assignments.
A few students groaned, and the teacher sat down at her desk. “You will all stand up and present your assignments when it is your turn.” She continued, “Alright.... Takeshi you're up first.” Takeshi stood and helds his paper out in front of him. He took a deep breath before he started to read his poem.
"Victory
The biggest scoop shall be mine,
I will catch the Phantom Thief Dark.
I'll beat him bloody with my fists,
He'll be mine, my words you ought mark.
I will make sure he is locked away,
Behind closed bars, the only place a thief deserves.
No way will he ever beat me,
Against him I'll hold no reserves."
He finished reading his poem, and smuggly sat back down as the class politely applauded his poem. “Uh... Very original Takeshi, thank you.” The teacher said as she wrote down some grading notes on a paper in front of her.
"Alright.... Ritsuko you're up!" She said as the girl stood and cleared her throat.
“Spring
Flowers, flowers all about.
How they make me want to shout!
Spring, spring had finally sprung.
Scents to tantalizing to my tongue.
Colors, colors how bright they are.
So many flowers near and far.”
Ritsuko finished reading her poem, and the class yet again applauded politely, as she sat down. The teacher sighed quietly, having hoped that the poems would be far better and have more sentiments pouring from them.
She wrote more grade marks for the poem down on her paper before looking up at the class, eyes landing on Satoshi. “Satoshi! You're up!” She said more excitedly, knowing that if anyone could get a good mark on this it is him.
The teenager looked up at his teacher. “Pardon me teacher, but I have no poem to read.” He explained almost bored, as the entire class regarded him in shock as he never before had an incomplete assignment. “You...didn't do it? Well.... You still have to write it, but I'll give you an extension to finish it alright. Once you finish it though, you will present it to us.” The teacher informed him, her bubble of happiness long since popped.
“Well... let's have... Ukawa up.” She said in a less enthusiastic voice, as the said individual stood.
“My Fault
I didn't mean to do it, but I know,
It's my fault, my mistake.
My doubt is the cause,
I've chosen the wrong path to take.
I faltered at the last second,
I'm the only on to blame.
I place my sword upon the wall,
And hang my head in shame.
You practically died,
By my very hands.
You'll never know love,
Or travel the now free lands.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I'd make sure I did things right.
I would in no way halt,
You'd live through the fight.
As things would have it I can't,
Fix what has come to past.
But I vow from this day on,
Everyone will know your last.”
The class applauded a little louder with his poem, as it had been far better then any of the others. The teacher, smiling again, marked down his grade mark for his presentation, as he took his seat once more.
“Okay! Thank you Ukawa, Risa your turn!” She pointed, and the girl got to her feet and looked around.
“Love Life
Wings so black they put the night to shame.
Such gorgeous looks they bind him to fame.
He will be mine, and I shall be his bride.
For as long as we live, he'll be by my side.
I will cook for him the most delicious of meals.
Our love is charged just like electrical eels.
It is to be our destinies now, always and forever.
Through thick and thin we'll always be together.
Our children will be perfect like their father and mother.
We will be a great family unlike any other.”
The class applauded loudly, mostly the girls of the class, as Daisuke flushed a brilliant shade of red that matched his hair and eyes. `Wow Dark....She really loves you.' He said silently to Dark, who in return rolled his eyes. `Daisuke she doesn't love me! She is obsessed with me!' He shouted mentally, being utterly appalled by those words.
The teacher smiled. “Well done Miss Harada, you poured a lot of feelings into that poem.” She said as she quickly wrote down some notes before she looked back up at the class. “Let's see... who next....” The class read the poems all day long. ((A/N: I do realize that isn't the way the school works as the teachers switch into new classes and they do many different topics during a day, but I think it'd be better for my story to be this way, plus I'm WAY too lazy.))
The school day was nearly over, and all but one person had already presented their poems. “Now last is Daisuke.” The teacher said as she smiled at the red head, who slowly stood almost nervously.
“Heading Home
I'm dreaming and rain drenches all,
Thunder and lightning fork through the air.
Fog weaves in through the wind blown trees,
Casting an eerie glow upon my wild black mare.
Wind attacks like thousands of whips,
Ripping flesh from both muscle and bone.
Branches and leaves crash all about,
The trees all around loudly creak and groan.
Sounds of hooves are lost in the storm,
Darkness dominates and I feel so blind.
We are lost and at nature's mercy,
Emotions rush but don't cloud my mind.
Head held high as blood freely flows,
Wounds so deep they penetrate my soul.
Adrenaline is all that keeps me going,
I will later pay the inevitable toll.
My horse and I are exhausted,
Tiredness visible in our slack pace.
We know what is coming so very close,
Death we will soon have to face.
Rain, rain wash away my tears,
We have traveled for many a mile.
Through many peaceful settlings,
Home we were seeking all the while.
Dreams and hopes scarcely remain,
Lights, like beacons, flicker ahead.
I have passed the long sought border,
Into my home land I now do tread.
I've reached the end of my journey,
With one last smile I collapse dead.
The fire of my soul finally sparks out,
Blood dyes the cursed Earth red...."
The entire class was stunned into silence, and a brilliant flush worked its way across Daisuke's face as everyone stared open mouthed at him. Never have they heard something so sad, and none of them had ever thought they'd hear something so sad and disturbing written by the innocent red head. Lucky for Daisuke, his humiliation wass put on hold as the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.
The sound of the bell seemingly to snaped everyone out of their stunned states, as they all prepared to go home. Daisuke slumped down into the chair of his desk, as the teacher's hand flew across the surface of her paper, scribbling notes extremely quickly.
Sighing slightly the red head stood, and peered around the nearly empty classroom, noting few individuals remain in the room. He ran his right hand over the back of his neck in embarrassment, as he grabbed his things. Daisuke turned to leave, and spotted Satoshi looking closely at him, a light of something akin to concern evident in his deep sapphire eyes.
The red head regained his blush in full force, as he walked towards the door, feeling embarrassed over everyone's reaction towards his poem. In his opinion, he thought it was very deep, and well reflected on. Almost everything said in the poem revolves around his life, though no one would be able to key it in.
Daisuke exited the school, trying in vain to ignore all the concerned looks directed at him. `They probably think you're some crazy depressed person who is about to jump of a bridge...' Dark commented in the back of his mind. `But I'm not!' Daisuke mentally defended himself, as a light pout graced his face.
`Then why did you write that poem?' Asked Dark, curiosity audible in his deep voice. `I'm not too sure... I just started writing, and that was the end result.' He answered feeling slightly embarrassed not having a proper answer as none seemed to come to him.
'Oh well.... We have more important issues to take care of.' Dark said brushing aside their conversation topic for a new one. `Oh? What?' He questioned Dark wondering what he was talking about. Dark sighed and shook his head. `You are so naive.... I'm talking about tonight. We are stealing another art piece, remember?' He inquired, not wanting to believe that Daisuke has so easily forgotten their newest target.
`Oh yea I remember!' Daisuke flushed as he almost forgot about that. `Do you think Satoshi will be their too?' The red head questioned. `Naturally... He is always there.' Dark replied with a role of his purple eyes.
“Daisuke?” A voice to his left nearly made him leap out of his skin, before he turned to the side and regarded the owner of that voice. “Satoshi!” He eclaimed as his cheeks turned the same color as his hair. “Is there something troubling you?” The taller boy questioned, looking Daisuke over closely.
“I'm great! .... Uh... Sorry if I worried you!” He said as he waved both hands rapidly in front of him, as that embarrassed grin of his made its way onto his face. Satoshi gave the boy another look over, and noted that he did in fact seem perfectly normal; judging by his behavior anyway.
"Alright Niwa, I'll see you tonight." Satoshi dismissed and left as they reached the front gate of their school. Daisuke stared after him momentarily, and shook his head before moving to the right. “Daisuke!” Another voice caught his attention, and he turned back towards the school where Riku was running towards him.
Daisuke smiled and a slight flush invaded his cheeks as Riku finally caught up to him. She placed her hands firmly on her knees in a attempt to catch her breath. “Riku!” He exclaimed happily as he watched her. “Are you alright?” He questioned in concerne caused by her out of breath state.
“I....I was going... to ask you.... same thing.” She responded slightly out of breath as she looked up at Daisuke. “I'm great! Thanks for asking.” He assured her with a sweet smile on his face. “But? That poem.... I thought... something might have been wrong...” She slowly stood straight and watched him with worry lines on her brow.
“Oh! Uh... I ... I uh.... Well that poem.... It's ... I'm sorry that I worried you!!” Daisuke ran his left hand over the back of his neck, and flushed crimson while laughing nervously. The teenage girl looked at Daisuke not convinced that he was fine. “Is there something bothering you that you don't want to tell anyone?” She tilted her head to the side, as Daisuke began to sweat and wave both hands quickly in front of him. “No!! There's nothing! I uh... I .... have to get going!!”
Riku nodded, believing him for the time being. “Alright Daisuke, I'll see you Monday. Have a good weekend.” She said and Daisuke nodded his head as well. “Thanks Riku, hope you have a good weekend too!” With that he turned and ran off towards his house, eager to get away from all the awkward questions that he has no answers for.
Minutes later he arrived at his house, raced inside, past all the traps with ease, before entering inside the main part of his house. “Welcome home sweety!!!” Emiko said cheerfully as she tightly embraced her son. “Mom!” He blushed from the confines of the hug. “Remember Daisuke, you and Dark have a job tonight.” She tenderly reminded her son, as she released him.
“I know.” He said with a smile before racing up stairs and into his room. He gently set his bag on his bed and Wiz climbed out of it with a gentle, “Kyu.” Daisuke smiled as he petted Wiz's head, and affectionately scratched his ears.
He quickly changed out of his school uniform and into a pair of loose black cargo pants and a black T-shirt .“Dai-chan!!! Dinner is ready!” His mother's voice was heard from the kitchen to his bedroom, and he left his room and headed back downstairs.
He arrived in the kitchen and spotted his mother, father and grandfather all sitting around the table waiting for him. He smiled at them as he sat down. “Hi Dad, Grandpa!” He happily greeted them as he, along with his family, helped themselves to all the steaming plates in front of them.
“Hey Daisuke.” The two older men greeted at the same time before looking at each other and laughing slightly.
Dinner went by uneventfully, with occasional conversations on varius topics. After dinner Daisuke went up to his room, and closed the door before walking over to his window and gazing out at the magnificent sunset. A sigh of relaxation escaped his lips as he stood there for countless minutes, oblivious to his family enjoying themselves downstairs, or to the police and reporters swarming about a museum not too far away.
Time passed quickly for the tamer of Dark, until a knock on the door snaped his attention back to reality. “Dai-sweety, it's time to get ready!” His mother said fondly as she opened the door. Daisuke turned and smiled at his mother as he took the offered outfit designed by Emiko herself. “Have fun tonight!” She said before exiting the room and closing the door behind her.
Daisuke quickly changed into black leather pants, that were loose on him but would fit Dark perfectly. He next put on a black leather tank top that matched the pants in both color and size. He then added black wrists bands with silver spikes around both wrists, and placed on a black choker. He equiped himself with some black, highly polished boots, and then looked himself over in the mirror.
“I look so strange like this.” He murmured to himself as he looked up and down at his too big outfit.
`Only because it is too big on you.' Dark continues. `Now hurry up or we'll be late.'
“Right!” He shouted slightly panicked, not wanting to be late.
Daisuke closed his eyes in concentration, focusing his attention on a mental picture of Riku. He began to feel warm as the transformation took over, and standing in his place was the legendary Phantom Thief Dark. “About time!” Dark said as he opened his window while Wiz jumped onto his back. He looked each way before tapping Wiz gently on the head, and the little white creature transformed into Dark's wings.
Dark took off into the cool night air, soaring rather quickly as he headed towards the museum housing his target. Minutes later he came upon the area, and shouts reached his ear, proving that he has been spotted flying in the sky. He rolled his eyes and suddenly disappeared. Moments later the museum's electricity went out.
He raced through the halls, past all the guards guarding the phoney pendant, and headed over to the deserted wing of the museum knowing his target and mortal enemy were there, awaiting his arrival. Wiz detached himself from Dark's back and hid in the shadows until his master needed him.
His feet made little to no noise as he raced across the tiled floor, easily evading all the traps and alarms set up. His eyes came upon a closed door up ahead and he knew that was where the pendant and Satoshi were. “This will be fun.” He whispered. `Don't hurt him!' Daisuke told his other half, not wanting his friend to be injured. “Pipe down... I won't hurt him... too much.” Dark responded as he swung the door open.
Purple eyes glanced around the room, and landed on the pendant inside the display case at the center of the room. He paid no attention to any of the other art works placed artistically throughout the room as he cautiously moved towards his target.
The door suddenly closed behind him as he reached the half way point to the pendant, and he whipped around and spotted Satoshi. “Commander Hiwatari, long time no see.” Dark greeted slyly as he regarded the teenage boy closely.
Dark lurched forward and swiftly retrieved the pendant before he glanced around and noted that Satoshi wass blocking the only way in and out. He sighed in frustration as he walked towards Satoshi, and only stopped when he was a few feet away from the boy. Purple met blue, as they watched each other, both extremly close to being the same height.
Dark looked up at Satoshi as he somehow had grown taller then the Phantom Thief. “Since when have you been so tall Hiwatari?” He asked not liking being shorter than his enemy in the least, even though it was just slightly. `Wow... I didn't realize he was that tall.' Daisuke added in as well, as he stared at Satoshi feeling slightly stunned.
“Perhaps it's not that I am tall, but that you are short.” Satoshi said as he riled up the thief. Dark stuck his nose in the air and shrugged, annoyance clearly visible in his stance. Satoshi, saw that Dark was distracted, swiftly attached one end of the handcuff to Dark's wrist and the other side of it to his own right wrist.
“What the?!” Was Dark's brilliant response to being hand cuffed to Satoshi. “Lets see you get out of this one Dark.” Mocked Satoshi, with a flicker of amusement visible in his gorgeous sapphire eyes.
“Two can play at that!” Purred Dark in a playful voice, as he suddenly transformed back into Daisuke. The red head blinked feeling confused, before looking up at Satoshi. The blue haired boy looked down at the innocent red head that was just thrown into the ring by Dark.
Satoshi was suddenly painfully and forcefully taken over by Krad, who looked down at the Niwa as though Christmas had just come early. Daisuke's eyes widened as he stared up at the formidable Krad standing right next to him, locked onto his arm. He gulped audibly and the blonde's smile grew.
Krad suddenly punched Daisuke in the stomach sending him flying as the handcuffs shattered, leaving deep cuts on both of their wrists. The Niwa landed across the room with a thud, arms both clenching his stomach, and the pendant landed around the skinny part of one of the vases. The vase and pendant both glowed silver before the vase shattered and a silver mist raced away unnoticed by either occupants of the room.
The pendant landed with a thud and Daisuke suddenly transformed back into Dark, who stood unaffected by the punch delivered to Daisuke. “Low blow Krad.” He snarled angrily at the blonde male, a glimmer of hate visible in his deep amythese couloured eyes.
Krad smiled evilly as he launched a destructive ball of magic, which Dark dodged. The attack collided with the wall and blew a giant opening to it, where spotlights suddenly focus onto. Wiz suddenly appeared, and attached himself to Dark's back. The thief then raced towards the opening with the blond right on his tail, he spread his wings and leapt out the hole followed closely by Krad.
Dark barely got outside before a felt a fist connect painfully to his back, and he turned around and swung a punch at Krad, wanting to get away, knowing Daisuke was hurt, and badly. The officers on the ground all watched the battle in awe, as the reporters filmed it, pleased at the turn of events.
Krad launched a ball of magic that hit Dark's left arm, causing him to scream in emense pain as he fell to the ground, but not before grabbing Krad by the ankles and dragging him down too. They both crashed painfully on the ground leaving a slight dint in the pavement, as cops suddenly surrounded them.
Both Krad and Dark looked at each other momentarily, before silently agreeing that they would continue this when next they meet. White and black wings launched both entities into the air, where they soar away leaving many confused spectators standing there in shock over the night's events.
Ten minutes later Dark arrived back at the Niwa's house and enterd inside unseen by any and came face to face with Daisuke's family. The three of them stare at the bloodied up figure in front of them, who then suddenly collapsed due to energy and blood. He landed loudly on the floor and transformed back into Daisuke.
