Chapter Nine: Rescue Me?

Back With Wiz (Wednesday)

“Daisuke?” Riku asked. “Why are you avoiding me?”

She looked down at her feet. “Is it because of what happened in the well house?”

Wiz was getting nervous already. He had no idea what the Harada twin was talking about. What happened at that shrine? Whatever it was, the familiar wasn't avoiding contact with people because of it. “No…”

“Then what is it!?” Riku's voice rose slightly, getting irritated.

“Tired…” Wiz groaned. He was tired too. The little thing has been working over time in Dai's form. He knew that the tamer had it tough, but this was getting too much for him. How did Daisuke do this all the time? How did his master put up with it?

“Tired?” the girl prodded on. Would she just go away? “Are you tired of me?”

Yes! But I can't say that! What would he say? “Wh-what? No!”

“Then tired of what!?”

“Maybe of your yelling,” Risa answered, having been listening since she barely ever left he sister's side.

“Shut it, Risa,” hissed the elder twin.

“No! I have something I want to ask Niwa anyway!”

Wiz frowned. He hated it when the two started to fight, especially when he was in the middle of it. The rabbit sighed and started to walk away from the two girl's starting to growl at each other. Both heads snapped around to glare at whom they thought to be Daisuke Niwa. “Where are you going!?”

“Room…” Wiz answered. “Sleep…”

“Oh!” Riku suddenly caught on. “You wanted to go to sleep? Why didn't you just say that instead of letting my mind wonder!?”

“You never let him finish, Riku!”

He sighed again and walked into the building. It was going to be awhile if they kept this up. The twins were just not getting along very well anymore. Risa always wanted Daisuke to do something for her and Riku was so insecure about the red-headed teen. She should be though, she knew he was keeping something from him, and it was a pretty big secret in Wiz's opinion. He should be used to all of this by now. How long had he and Dark been at this again? The rabbit opened the door and transformed into himself.

The familiar grunted. Better be getting a lot of strawberries for this…

Thursday in the Feudal Era

Satoshi and Sesshomaru stood in front of an ominous-looking wall of miasma. The taiyoukai had sent the two-headed dragon away with Rin as its passenger. He only had wanted the thing along to make the trip faster. With him and the human, it would've taken the entire day to get to this castle instead of the few hours it had. The bird, however, would not leave the blue-haired boy. She insisted that she tag along so she could pinpoint where Daisuke was.

“What is that?” Satoshi frowned.

The stoic lord did not answer. He was here for Naraku, no one else. Once inside, the boy would no longer be his concern. He could tend for himself with his inner demon, not that the lord really cared if the kid made it out alive or not. Sesshomaru lifted Tokijin from its place at his side. He raised it horizontally and summoned the lightning from within the blade. It sparked and shot out into the wall, the miasma barrier breaking. There was enough space for the boy and him to get through to the other side. How the child would get back? It didn't matter.

“Come,” he said while swiftly walking forward, Tokijin ready for an attack. “Hold your breath and do not inhale the poisons.”

Hiwatari grunted and followed behind, taking two steps for Sesshomaru's one stride. He inhaled, readying himself before going through the hole in the wall. The tamer held his breath as he trailed behind the taiyoukai, only releasing it after they were both safely inside.

Sesshomaru took in everything with his senses. There was only Naraku and another one of his incarnations present here. He knew it was not the wind witch, so it must be the void. The demon then detected a third among them all. This presence highly resembled the boy next to him. He was heading away from the evil hanyou. Sesshomaru growled. Naraku would soon be out to see him. There was no point in the demon lord to go anywhere else. Already he could feel Naraku moving inside.

The bird, however, was flapping her wings frantically. “Inside! Dai-chan is inside!”

Satoshi nodded and took off. Sesshomaru mentally sighed. That boy, no matter how unhuman he tried to act, was very obviously, too connected to that Daisuke Niwa. He snorted. No one would catch the taiyoukai in such a state. Never. Sesshomaru growled louder as he saw a miasma cloud in front of him as soon as the boy ran inside. “Naraku…”

The cloud broke apart, revealing the evil hanyou. “Sesshomaru-sama. I am quite flattered you decided to visit me.”

PAGEBREAK (Satoshi's POV)

`Do not touch it,' Krad warned his tamer as the young commander walked through the hole Sesshomaru had made.

Why is he helping us?

`I do no know, Satoshi-sama, and I do not care. Let's find the Niwa brat and get out of here. This place does not bode well with me.'

Krad was right too. The moment the small trio (foursome if you counted the fallen angel) stepped inside, the Hikari had noticed it. For a castle, the place was pretty barren. There was no sky, only barrier, and the grounds looked dead. Satoshi wanted to hold his nose the air smelled so bad. It was dingy and bleak… and he couldn't ignore this foreboding evil presence he felt. His instincts cried at him to leave Niwa and get the hell out of there.

The bird on his head suddenly started squawking about Niwa being in the main castle ahead of them. It was huge and dark; it made Satoshi a bit fearful of what might've become of his red-headed friend.

`Scared?'

No… he replied to his other self and stepped forward. He walk turned into a spring. Hiwatari was going to get Niwa, the witch's heart, and then the hell out of here.

Satoshi followed Towa's directions. Apparently, it seemed that Niwa was moving around. He wondered what kind of omen that was. The sapphire eyed boy shook his head violently and continued on in a sprint. Every turn around the corner's to only end up with nothing front but a hallway with more corners was starting to get depressing. He wondered if he would be able to get out. Perhaps he should've focused on where that heart was first?

He looked away from in front of him and looked up at Towa. Satoshi was about to ask if the guide could locate the heart as well when he suddenly tripped over something. He hurled forwards, not able to catch his balance in time so he could save himself from embarrassment. The teen rolled a good three or four times before crashing into wall that turned out to be another corner.

`My… That was truly graceful of you, Satoshi-sama.' Krad chuckled. `I would give it an eight for the rolling and a ten for the crash.'

Shut up, Krad! Satoshi moaned and shut his eyes tight, blocking out the tinge of pain he felt.

“Are you all right?” asked a concerned voice. “I'm so sorry! I didn't see you!”

“Niwa?” Satoshi said, opening his eyes to see those fiery red ones looking at him with concern, hovering above him. However, something didn't feel quite right about the person standing in front of him. Something was different in those eyes. The Hikari was starting to worry about the other tamer. Did something happen? Why was Dark not protecting him?

`How convenient for you… He is right in front of you, why not try something?'

I am NOT going to take advantage of the situation, Krad.

`Hmph. Suit yourself, Satoshi-sama.'

The boy blinked. After a few seconds he jumped back, a blush coming to his face. “Hi-hiwatari!? H-how did you get here!?”

Satoshi got up and straightened himself out. “I could ask you the same, Niwa. And how is it you are running about?”

For a moment, Hiwatari thought he saw a flicker of some darkness in Niwa's eyes. He thought he did, but once he blinked, it was no longer there. Instead, there was just the same silly expression that he always had. “Well, I kind of got lost. Naraku got distracted and I was able to get out, but this place is really bigger than it looks on the outside. But how did you get here?”

Sesshomaru distracted this Naraku…

“I did it!” Towa said, showing her true self. “Hikari-sama asked me to bring him here so that he could bring you home!”

“Oh…” he said, looking down, that same expression fading in and out, barely being able to go noticed by the rest of the group. “Did you really do that, Hiwatari-kun?”

`There is something not right about him, Satoshi-sama…'

I know… But what can I do?

`I bet you want to tell him how adorable you think he is, hmmm? Why not? I could always… Help…'

No…

“If you are not around, how am I going to catch Dark?” He settled on saying. Satoshi was NOT going to tell the smaller thief. Not until they were safe back in their own time.

“You don't have to worry about me being in the way anymore, Hiwatari…”

`What is that?' Krad frowned.

“What?”

“Dark is no longer a part of me,” Niwa finished in almost a dark tone. It made the other tamer, and Krad, shudders go down their shared spine.

“How is that?” he asked, relieved that he could now freely touch the boy without breaking the kaitou's deal.

“Some dark priestess did a ritual thing and split us up. He's with Kagome... C'mon! I want to get out of here! Towa-chan, do you know the way?”

“Of course! I'll just concentrate on finding Sesshomaru-sama since he's at the exit with that scary presence I felt earlier! I guess that would be Naraku! It's…”

“No…” Satoshi said.

“What?” both the bird and tamer asked.

“I need to get something. It was part of a deal that I made in order to find out where you were, Niwa.”

Niwa frowned. “So then, let's go get it and get out.”

“Towa?”

She transformed and started to fly on ahead. Satoshi and Daisuke followed in her wake.

PAGEBREAK (Dai's POV)

I can feel it… Daisuke thought. This gem that Naraku gave me is helping out a lot. There are three inside and one very powerful one outside. I know those three… They are familiar…

He then decided to see of they were after him. The red-head started to run around the corridors of the castle. Sure enough, they were the ones that Naraku had said would want to bring him back to the Inuyasha tachi. He nodded to himself and took off in their direction, hoping to meet them. Daisuke did not want to displease the one person who thought he wasn't weak. The former tamer would bring them back to this place, no matter what.

As he turned the corner, lost in his thoughts, he ran into something hard. Daisuke fell flat on his face and turned to see what he had bumped into. There was a blue-haired boy about his age who had crashed against the wall. Panic immediately swept through him. Surely he had to be all right or his plans wouldn't work out at all! The teen waved his hand in front of the boy's face. “Are you all right? I'm so sorry! I didn't see you!”

“Niwa?” the other boy said, his eyelids fluttering open to release sapphire orbs.

Daisuke sat blinking, he was familiar with him? He knew him? Dai tried real hard to think about this person in front of him. Blue… Blue… Those eyes were so blue! And his hair matched. The third presence was inside of him, shifting around as was the look in those great depths of eyes. He remembered a similar feeling when he and Dark would talk. Dark… Backwards that was Krad. Krad was his other self…And Krad's tamer was… Satoshi! That was who the boy was. He was Satoshi Hiwatari, the other tamer. How could he forget his friend like that?

Wait… How did he get here!? He thought, than lept backwards. “Hi-hiwatari!? H-how did you get here!?”

Satoshi got up and straightened himself out, wiping the dust off of his clothing. Daisuke refused to get up. “I could ask you the same, Niwa. And how is it you are running about?”

Dai thought about this. How could he answer? The red-head couldn't say anything about Naraku to Satoshi. It would cause suspicion and mistrust. He couldn't have that if he wanted to get back to the tachi and lead them here. How dare he ask that anyway? Wasn't he the least it concerned? He pushed the thoughts away and thought up of an easy excuse. “Well, I kind of got lost. Naraku got distracted and I was able to get out, but this place is really bigger than it looks on the outside. But how did you get here?”

A pastel bird smiled. Daisuke looked hard at the thing. It transformed into a teenage girl with silver hair and green eyes. He could've smacked himself then. It was Towa-chan! Why am I forgetting all of this?

“I did it!” Towa said, showing her true self. “Hikari-sama asked me to bring him here so that he could bring you home!”

To say that Dai was shocked was an understatement. He looked down. Did the Hikari really worry that much about him? His emotions were just all messed up now. He didn't want to be rescued anymore, but at the very least Satoshi had cared enough to find the way and keep his promise. “Did you really do that, Hiwatari-kun?”

His hopes were so high until he heard the other boy's response. “If you are not around, how am I going to catch Dark?”

Of course… It's always Dark…

“You don't have to worry about me being in the way anymore, Hiwatari…” he said, careful to not let too much emotion out at the statement.
“What?” he asked, surpised.

“Dark is no longer a part of me,” Daisuke said, feeling his heart being broken all over again and thoughts of hatred and revenge rising. It was true. Dark was no longer a part of him. Dark was finally rid of the boy like the kaitou had wanted… And now Dai had nothing left except what the hanyou had offered to him.

“How is that?” the other asked, almost as if a burden had been lifted. Dai ignored it.

“Some dark priestess did a ritual thing and split us up. He's with Kagome...” He stated, not wanting to think about that whole ordeal. It made his blood boil. Dai quickly placed a whine in his voice to cover himself. “C'mon!

The garnet eyed teen frowned. So, someone else had made a deal? At least Satoshi was honorable enough to actually go through with it. However, this was not the thing that upset him the most. Naraku was out there fighting with that other person all by himself. The red-head knew that the hanyou could take care of himself. Yet, he wanted so much to get out of here and get on with the whole play as soon as possible. “So then, let's go get it and get out.”

“Towa?”

She transformed and started to fly on ahead. Satoshi and Daisuke followed in her wake. Dai was not really interested in what they were trying to find, but hell, he needed to get out now! “What are we looking for!?”

“A heart!” the boy replied.

“A heart? Whose?” he asked, now curious.

“A witch named Kagura told me where you were only if I promised to bring back her heart. Apparently this Naraku has it.”

So that's what she meant when she said she didn't have a choice! He has her heart! Wait… She betrayed him? He's not going to like that. He probably kept her heart in his room.

He was furious at the incarnation. Even though Naraku had her heart, she still would betray him. Some people would do anything, he guessed, to have freedom. Yet, no one realized how much freedom costs or how lonely and painful that freedom could turn out to be. Daisuke would say something to Naraku as soon as he did what was asked of him.

PAGEBREAK

Naraku smirked. He knew the thoughts of his new pet, every one of them. The hanyou returned his attention to the taiyoukai. “It seems that Kagura has betrayed me to you.”

Sesshomaru did not reply to that. The evil hanyou smiled. “Are you ready to become a part of me, Sesshomaru-sama?”

“That would be below me,” he said, summoning the power within his sword.

Without even thinking about it, Naraku created a barrier of miasma. It burned away from the lightning's contact with it. He inwardly was bored, but he had to give them something to believe that the boy was truly escaping. Naraku rarely ever fought in battle and this was such the reason: boredom. He had hoped the taiyoukai would do more than just use Tokijin. The hanyou created another barrier as Sesshomaru threw another electric blast. How dull…

He threw a miasma blast at the demon lord. Sesshomaru side stepped and lunged at Naraku. His eyes widened in surprise more than alarmed. The hanyou evaporated with his poisonous mist and reappeared behind the inu youkai, readying for another attacking. Sesshomaru glared and released his whip. The blow stung as it hit Naraku's shoulder.

Frowning at the mistake he made, he backed off slightly. He felt his pet inside in his chamber. They had found Kagura's heart. It mattered not to him anymore. He knew the boy would complete the jewel for him. Kagura made a mistake, betraying him, her own “father” so to speak. The witch would learn from it later, if he so chose not to kill her. He chuckled and brought his mind back to this truly worthless battle ahead of him.

PAGEBREAK

Daisuke ran, pulling Satoshi in tow. They needed to get out now. Towa was in the lead, directing them through the maze that was the castle of Naraku. He could see light up ahead. That was the door! “C'mon!”

“I'm going as fast as I can!” Satoshi snapped.

They burst through the doorway, watching the two powers collide. Rather, it was the demon with the long silver hair that was attacking. Naraku was on the defensive. He caught the hanyou's gaze.

“You would take him from me?” Naraku smirked. “I have a deal with his other self. You would take that opportunity away from him?”

“Dark can go to Hell,” Satoshi spat, grabbing Dai's hand and dragging him along.

There suddenly was a harsh wind. All eyes were setting on Kagura, her fan ready. Naraku no longer held her heart so she was free to do as she pleased. The only way now to get it back was to protect those boys long enough to snag it. “Dance of the Dragon!”

Three huge whirlwinds appeared as she whipped her fan around. It stirred the dried grounds up, hurtling dust particles in the air. All of them covered their eyes. Sesshomaru, angered that he was interrupted growled and turned to leave. This was there problem now in his eyes. He'd done enough and that would satisfy the little girl waiting for him. Yet, Satoshi held onto Daisuke tightly as the winds picked up more. Dai wasn't too thrilled about the intimate way the police chief was holding his head the teen's chest, but had to let it go. Kagura was making her way to the boys.

“Let's go,” she hissed, pulling out a feather. “I want my heart now.”

Satoshi handed her the little red glowing thing and she placed it against her chest. She groaned from the pain then pushed them both onboard. They took to the skies, leaving a smirking Naraku behind.

PAGEBREAK

Dark was running on ahead of the rest of the tachi. He could hear them screaming at him but he could care less. He remembered everything that had happened earlier and that made him pick up the pace. No way was Satoshi going to get to his Daisuke first. No way!

FLASHBACK

Jaken had finished his tale about the boy. Apparently this purple bird and blue haired boy had shown up on their way to find out what this energy disturbance was. Upon seeing them, the boy changed into this white-winged demon (Dark sniggered at this part) and gave this toad's master, Sesshomaru, quite the battle. Dark had decided at the point to laugh out loud, glad that it wasn't he that was fighting Krad for a change. “That would be Krad, Creepy Boy and Towa!”

The mood suddenly became serious as the green imp scolded him. “That's not why I am here! That witch of Naraku's came and told the boy where this other human was...”

The kaitou grabbed the thing. “You mean Daisuke!?”

“I do not care about such a thing like a human's name! She went on and told us where Naraku's castle was in exchange for the strange boy bringing back her heart!”

“Where is it?” Inuyasha growled, joining Dark in rage and determination.

“It is a little more than a day's journey in that direction!” he croaked, pointing.

Letting go of the imp, Dark had taken of at a sprint.

END FLASHBACK

Daisuke was his to rescue and his alone. They all were going without any sleep, but that no longer mattered. His tamer was close and within reach. He would rescue Daisuke without having to take the jewel! Dark was glad for that, but even he was beginning to wear out. He was furious at himself and was going to keep on even though it hurt when Inuyasha caught up. “Stop running!”

“Why? I need to get Daisuke!”

“I smell Naraku, you idiot!”

He stopped dead in his tracks, allowing everyone to finally catch up. “So? Dai's at the castle!”

“That's what you would like to think, isn't, Dark?” asked a cold voice from above.

The tachi looked up as did the kaitou. Kagura was sitting there as was the two tamer's and Towa. She looked as smug as the commander did. The witch brought them down into the trees to meet the rest of the tachi. Daisuke and Satoshi removed themselves from the feather. She nodded at the blue-haired by before once again taking to the skies.

Dark looked at Daisuke. There was something not right about the look on his face. He was staring back in the castle's direction with an odd gleam in his eyes. Dai turned his head around and locked onto Dark's gaze. The boy knew the kaitou was staring. “You okay, Dark?”

The kaitou went over to the boy and grabbed him, pulling him into a tight embrace. “I was worried about you.”

In Daisuke's eyes, he noticed something flicker, but then vanish. “Thank goodness Hiwatari-kun saved me then, huh?”

“I'm sorry I wasn't able to…”

Daisuke looked up at him and cut off the kaitou's words. “Were you really going to give that guy the jewel?”

The inu tachi all looked at the two thieves. “What?”

“Naraku told me that he made a deal with Dark,” he continued innocently. “He said that if Dark would've brought the rest of the Shikon jewel that he would've let me go. Didn't you guys know that?”

“He failed to tell us about that…” Kagome said, tapping her foot in annoyance.

“You were going to betray us!?” Inuyasha growled.

“No, I wasn't! It's true that Naraku had made a deal like that with me, but I couldn't decide what to do!” Dark hissed at the group, releasing Daisuke to glare eye to eye at Inuyasha.

“But you should have told us,” the monk said knowingly.

“Does it matter?” another cold voice asked, walking to meet their group.

“Sesshomaru…” Inuyasha snarled.

The taiyoukai didn't even pause in his steps. There was a dragon and a girl following behind. His amber eyes were like the commander's. “It does not matter if he told you or not any longer. The human boy is here and safe while the jewel is not in the hands of that hanyou. Should that not matter the most?”

Dark sighed. Kagome smiled. “You're right. We ought to be thankful for that! Now we can go get him!”

The kaitou looked over to Daisuke. There was something bothering the boy; his eyes were flickering with that same unfamiliarity that they were earlier. “Daisuke?”

“Hmmm?” he asked, snapping out of it.

“Are you okay, Niwa-kun?” Satoshi asked, concerned, feeling the boy's forehead.

Dark wanted to rip that hand off. No one should be touching his Daisuke but him! He was about to go over there when a hand came down upon his shoulder. Dark glanced and saw the monk. “I think it would be best to stay the rest of the day here. Take a break, if you know what I mean. Dai-chan probably needs it as much as any of us.”

“I will be staying,” Sesshomaru commented.

“Why is that? Inuyasha snorted.

“You, little brother, cannot defeat the hanyou alone,” he said simply, leaning against one of the trees.

“I do need to rest,” Daisuke admitted.

“Good,” the kaitou nodded. “I do too.”

Before the red-head could react, Dark walked up to his side. The kaitou was not going to let anyone come after his tamer again. He picked out a place to rest and picked up the younger thief. Dark caught Satoshi's glare as he sat down, back against another tree with the former tamer in his lap. The kaitou wrapped his arms around his affection and pulled him closer. He felt something stirring inside the teenager but then it stopped. Dark wasn't about to rest, but he felt Daisuke relax into him and be taken away by the lulls of sleep. The kaitou closed his amethyst eyes, wanting sleep to claim him as well…

Daisuke listened in his mind. He was calling out to him. “Dai-chain…”

“Naraku?”

“Is everything all right, Dai-chan?”

“Yes. They will be coming,” he said to the dark void of nothingness.

Naraku chuckled. “And yourself?”

“I'll be fine once this is over with.”

“What of the kaitou? It seems that he has a hold of you at this very moment,” the hanyou mused.

“Should it mean something? I don't remember anymore…”
“It is nothing. You are curing yourself,” Naraku spoke softly. “All will be well once you return to me. You will return, won't you, Dai-chan?”

“There is no one else I would rather be with,” Daisuke admitted.

“That is my pet… Now rest… You will need it, Dai-chain.”

“Yes,” Dai murmured before his mind began to before he drifted to sleep. “Master…”
