Chapter Ten: Completed Shikon
Thursday Evening
Dark had awoken some time ago. The sun was just beginning to set. His eyes strained to see as the goddess of the night began to stretch her blanket over the sky. The red in the setting sun was starting to freak the kaitou out. It was as if something was telling him that things were not going to go well for him in the next few hours. Dark violently shook his head to rid himself of these thoughts and instead thought about the rest of the tachi.
Had they really slept since the early hours? His violet eyes scanned the area. Inuyasha's half brother was, besides the kaitou, the only one not really sleeping. Dark smiled slightly at the sight of the little girl he had brought with him was snuggling against that pelt around the demon's shoulders. He found it ironic that such a “scary” demon lord would take to the company of a little human girl. Dark glanced down at the red-head asleep in his arms. Perhaps it was innocence… He glanced back at the other pair to catch amber eyes glaring at him. “Do you have something to comment, kaitou?”
He looked away. “Not really…”
“Then this Sesshomaru believes that it would be wise not to stare.”
“I wasn't really staring at you!” He snapped back.
“Oh?” came the slightly irritated reply.
“I was staring at the kid. How did someone like you ever allow something like her to stay by your side?”
Sesshomaru growled. Dark frowned. “Just asking. You don't have to answer, ya know…”
“Why do you keep that red-headed human boy so impossibly close to you?” the taiyoukai commented with a snort.
Dark smiled at Daisuke and unconsciously pulled him closer to his body. “Just kind of worms their way in without even asking. That's sort of rude.”
“Indeed.”
The kaitou shifted slightly as the teen in his lap began to wiggle around. Dark was holding back laughing as much as he could when he saw Daisuke's mouth widen and let loose a yawn. The tamer was too cute at the moment, eyes heavy from sleep and just barely conscious. Then he got worried… Daisuke was lazy and liked to sleep, sure, but it wasn't like him to wake up half dead. I wonder if he even got any sleep at all in that place…
“Hey,” Dark said, shaking Dai slightly. “You okay there?”
Daisuke looked up at the purple haired teen, trying to rub the sleep out of his eyes, over and over again. “Erm… Yeah…”
Dark blinked. He couldn't say what it was, but there was something definitely wrong with the little tamer. Something felt off. There was something missing from Daisuke's eyes. Again, he couldn't name what it was exactly, but he knew whatever it was, it wasn't there anymore. Daisuke struggled to get into a better position to talk. “Are we going back there?”
“We have to, Daisuke.”
“Naraku will move his castle if we do not attack soon,” the taiyoukai said, shaking the girl from his fluffy thing.
“Right,” Daisuke said, looking over to the slumped form of the Hikari sleeping.
Daisuke broke free of the thief's hold and ran over to prod the other tamer awake. Satoshi hissed at the red-head and tried to shoo him away. Dai was more persistent than usual, which caused Dark to frown. Once he finished with the police chief, he proceeded to wake everybody else up. The entire tachi groaned and protested, all except Kagome. She up and smacked Daisuke across the face, mistaking him for Inuyasha.
The red-head whined, and Kagome shot up to quickly apologize. He frowned at her and everyone who was complaining about having to get up. The former tamer pouted, which made Dark want to jump him on the inside. “I want to finish this.”
“Heh… So do I, Daisuke…”
“Hell, we all want to,” groaned Inuyasha as he came into view. “But I still don't see why you have to come with us, you bastard.”
Sesshomaru said nothing, which only irritated the hanyou even more. His hand went to his father's fang. Dark wondered if that was his security blanket in a way.
“Why are you holding that so tight, mutt-face?” he decided to taunt him anyway. “Did you forget your blankie back home?”
“Shut up!” he growled and faced the kaitou.
However, before they could continue to banter any further, Kagome pulled Inuyasha away as did Satoshi to Dark. Both glared at the two as if they were immature children needed to be punished. “Yeah yeah… Cuff me and take me away, Mom…”
“Dark!” Daisuke scolded.
“What? I'm bored!”
“Foolish…” Sesshomaru snorted and started to walk off in the direction of Naraku's castle.
Dark started to head off in the same direction, Daisuke at his side. He smiled at the thought. He was finally able to see his former host from the outside instead of from within. Dark turned around to see where the others were. The rest of the tachi followed after the demon lord as well, realizing that they really didn't have any other choice. Only he really knew what way to go. Satoshi and Daisuke had been riding upon kagura's feather and only knew what it looked like from above. Sesshomaru, on the other hand, knew the land and its layout better than anybody else. What angered the taiyoukai the most was the fact that the evil hanyou had been on his lands without even he knowing about it. Dark understood. After all, he didn't want anyone on his property either and it didn't matter who that person happened to be. He was going to get even with this Naraku for even touching his Daisuke.

Satoshi was keeping his eye on the Niwa. He was walking overly calm next to the thief. There was something very wrong with it. He'd never known Daisuke to be calm in a situation except when it came to Dark. The blunette remembered the various times that Dark or Daisuke had been separated from each other by the different realms. Their focus was always on each other. It didn't surprise him at all that the kaitou has taken a liking to the red-head, but it did bother him.
`Jealous, Satoshi-sama?' Krad smirked.
Perhaps… he replied, not caring if he was showing any sign of affection.
`You are acting awfully strange…'
There's something wrong with Niwa…
`So you finally realized it, hmmm? I've been sensing something very sinister within him since last night,' he laughed at the thought that had crossed his mind. `My my! What fun it would be if your little Niwa turned on you all!'
He wouldn't do that. Niwa is stronger than that to let someone control him!
`The heart is very fragile, and easily corrupted, Satoshi-sama.'
What does that have to do with anything? The teen frowned when he received no answer from the fallen angel. Krad!
It wouldn't do him any good. Krad had drifted back into the darkness within their shared mind. Satoshi was actually surprised that his other half had been awake for so long. He snorted and frowned. It would figure that he would sleep when the tamer had questions for him. Satoshi refocused on Dai. The police chief hoped that Krad's prediction wouldn't be correct. Daisuke wouldn't let that happen. He was far too innocent, wasn't he? What did Krad mean by the heart? Was there something that the Hikari missed? He closed his eyes and shook his head almost violently. Satoshi reopened his eyes to meet a garnet gaze.
“Are you alright, Hiwatari-kun?” he asked, a smile on his face.
Hiwatarti-kun? What happened to just Satoshi? “Perfectly fine, Niwa, I assure you? And yourself?”
His smile wavered for just one second almost as if he had doubts about something. It instantly appeared back on his face. “Great! But I really do miss everybody back home!”
“Does this include the Haradas?” Dark asked.
“Ha-ra-das?” Dai asked, a clueless look gracing his face.
“Riku and Risa?” the kaitou pushed further.
“Oh!” the tamer grinned.
Dark sighed. “Guess not, huh? Can't believe you'd forget your own girlfriend…”
“Might be an improvement,” Satoshi commented.
“What do you mean, Commander?”
“I feel sorry for your familiar, Dark. The poor thing has been dealing with those two and all of the other insane people Niwa usually associates himself with. It's probably gone into hiding by now.”
“That's one brave rabbit,” Dark smirked, nudging the red-head. “Eh, Dasuke?”
“Hmmm?” Dai replied, not really paying attention. “Yeah… Sure…”
“Are you sure that you are all right, Niwa?” Satoshi asked again, eyes serious and brows pressed together. “You are not acting like yourself.”
“For the last time, I'm fine!” he shouted.
Everyone turned their heads to the trio (all except Sesshomaru and his group since he could care less). Daisuke walked forward, passing all of them in angry strides. Towa, now once again in her bird-like form, took her leave of the Hikari's head and flew to the read-head. Satoshi's eyes followed the boy's retreating form, starting to think that Krad might not be far off from the truth. The girl from their time had a confused look on her face. The hanyou noticed this. “What is it?”
“I keep thinking that a shard is nearby, but every time I go to focus on it, the feeling just disappears…”
“It could be that you are sensing Naraku's shards and his miasma keep throwing you off,” the monk theorized.
“That could be it, but I don't know you guys,” she said, still worrying over it.
“It doesn't matter now. We need to get going or Sesshomaru will leave us behind,” Sango said, starting to walk away.
“And I'll be damned if that bastard kills Naraku before I get the chance!” Inuyasha growled, almost running in the direction of the castle.
Kagome and Mirokou took another glance at Dark and then kept walking themselves. The kaitou looked just a tad angry. Satoshi sighed. “I think it would be wise to work together on this, kaitou.”
“What do you mean, Commander?”
“Just keep an eye on Niwa. Krad kept sensing something off about him.”
“Oh yeah?” Dark smirked. “Well, how is Blondie anyway?”
The Hikari snorted. “Decided it was time to sleep I guess.”
“Figures…”
“Doesn't it though?”
“By the way… You lost a year ago and our bargain still stands, got it?” Dark said seriously, making sure not to be heard by the rest of the tachi.
“I do not believe so,” Satoshi smirked. “As I see it, Daisuke is no longer involved with the Phantom Theif, so he's fair game.”
“The deal was…”
“That I would not touch him during the times that you are thieving. However, I highly doubt that he will be joining you in your favorite past time. Therefore, the bet is off…” the blunette grinned.
“Bastard.”
The Hiwatari actually laughed.

(Daisuke)
The read-head was inwardly growing in anticipation and anger with every step. It was starting to get annoying pretending to enjoy walking by the very thing that made his blood boil.
He had awoken to the sight of Dark holding him. Dai had forgotten that's how he fell asleep. He knew that they needed to go as soon as possible. It was infuriating to see that everyone was still asleep. The red-head took it into his own hands to wake everyone else up. It was annoying to get the blunette up. Apparently the guy wasn't someone who wanted their sleep interrupted. He still pushed and shoved to get the tamer up and then ran to everyone else, still feeling those violet eyes on his every move.
The only reason he kept on whining about Dark's behavior was that he wanted to go. He needed to return. All his thoughts were on that as they were walking towards the castle. It was, perhaps, the only thing that kept the pain that was in his arm to die down and relax. It bothered him only slightly, but he shrugged it off into the back of his mind. Daisuke thought he shouldn't worry about little things like that when there were other things to worry about. That's when he felt something else… Another set of eyes… He turned around and blue met red.
“Are you alright, Hiwatari-kun?” he asked, thinking that the boy was no longer privileged enough to call by his first name. All was concerned about was Dark anyways…
“Perfectly fine, Niwa, I assure you. And yourself?” the other teen replied.
His smile wavered. He really didn't care, so why was he asking. Did anyone even think that for a moment that he could take care of himself? Did he always need someone to protect him? Those thoughts were pissing him off and causing his arm to hurt a little more. He decided to play it cool and not let his mask slip anymore and the pain dulled. Yet, what could he say? Family? Friends? Home? Ah yes… “Great! But I really do miss everybody back home!”
“Does this include the Haradas?” Dark asked.
“Ha-ra-das?” Dai asked, a clueless look gracing his face. When the thief said that, the red-head couldn't come up with an image at all. That name wasn't familiar to him at all… Should they be important?
“Riku and Risa?” the kaitou pushed further.
“Oh!” the tamer grinned, remembering only the fact that one twin was obsessed with Dark and the other to find out that he and Dark used to be one in the same. It was annoying really. They both annoyed him. Did everything have to revolve around the kaitou? It sure seemed so.
Dark sighed. “Guess not, huh? Can't believe you'd forget your own girlfriend…”
Daisuke drowned out the rest of the conversation. It wasn't really important, just idle chatter or banter. Hell, he wouldn't be surprised if the police chief really had a thing for the kaitou. The way they argued and fought, you might start to think so. The first night he became Dark and had to steal the maiden… That night Satoshi immediately jumped them and straddled Dark.
“That's one brave rabbit,” Dark smirked, nudging the red-head. “Eh, Dasuke?”
“Hmmm?” Dai replied, coming out of this thought life.. “Yeah… Sure…”
“Are you sure that you are all right, Niwa?” Satoshi asked again, eyes serious and brows pressed together. “You are not acting like yourself.”
There is was again! Everyone was acting like he was something so fragile that just one thing could break it! Why couldn't they all see that he was physically okay?
“For the last time, I'm fine!” he shouted, irritated beyond words. Daisuke stomped right past the stares of the Inuyasha tachi and trailed closely behind the cold-hearted taiyoukai. At the very least, Sesshomaru would not go out of his way to protect him like he cared. Good for him though. Daisuke felt the slight throb in his arm linger as Towa landed on his head. He ignored her questions, but did enjoy her presence somewhat until the reached the miasma barrier of the castle.
“This is it?” Inuyasha growled.
“Finally… Let's finish this…” Sango frowned, readying herself and Kirara.
“Now to get rid of my curse,” the monk grinned.
“And to put back the jewel!” Kagome smiled, Shippo shaking like a leaf on her shoulder.
“You guys sound like characters readying themselves for the final battle from a manga,” Dark snorted. “What are you doing saying things like that for? Life's no storybook!”
“And it's annoying…” Satoshi added.
“Indeed,” Sesshomaru agreed, then turned to Kagome. “Well miko?”
“Well what?” she said, frowning.
“I think he means are you gonna use your arrow to break the barrier or are you just gonna stand there like a schoolgirl…” Daisuke said, his anger starting to rise.
“Oh yeah!” Kagome replied, shooting an arrow at the barrier, the holdy light surrounding it until it hit the mark.
The clouds disappeared, breaking down and dissolving under the purifying attack. As soon as it cleared, the entire tachi wasted no time entering and screaming for the evil hanyou to come out. Daisuke edged his way closer to the girl. Of course the other two from his town was at his side, but he could care less. His target was within reach after all…
PAGEBREAK
Dark watched as someone came out of the main mansion. It was Naraku, only not wearing that stupid white baboon skin. He could see the evil hanyou clearly now. The half breed had long dark wavy hair. His eyes were red and were highly amused by the sight before him. Above, on his eyelids, was a thin strip of light purple markings. Either that or it was eye shadow. Dark hoped for the former rather than the later. Men and eye shadow? That was so emo…
“I see that you have arrived safely,” he smirked.
“Naraku!” Inuyasha growled, whipping out Tetsaiga.
“Well hello, Inuyasha. Sesshomaru-sama! It is a wonderful surprise to see you back here so soon? Are we upset that we could not detect my castle on your lands?”
Sesshomaru was still emotionless and he unsheathed Tokijin. “This Sesshomaru does not like being mocked, hanyou.”
“Very well. Ah! Kaitou! Have we all been playing nice with my new pet?” Naraku grinned, ignoring all but the trio.
“New pet?” Satoshi hissed.
“Where do you get off saying that?” Dark frowned.
“It seemed to me that you did not want Dai-chan, kaitou, so I thought that I might have him…”
“Are you ought of your mind!? What the hell do you mean, Dai-chan!?” the kaitou roared at the hanyou. “That's just sick! What are you, some kind of pedophile!? Like Daisuke would even give you the chance!”
The half demon seemed to fake hurt. “Is that so? What do you think of it, Dai-chan?”
Before anyone could even comprehend what was happening, Daisuke knocked Kagome's raised bow and arrow away. Dark went to grab the boy, but was thrown by something unseen by all. Satoshi couldn't even get near him and before the Inu tachi or Sesshomaru could even get close, Dai was enveloped by a thick cloud of miasma. Everything was hidden by that cloud.
When it evaporated, Dark's jaw would've hit the ground, if he weren't rubbing at it from the unexpected blow he had received. There, before the entire group of warriors, was Daisuke wrapped in Naraku's arms. Daisuke had betrayed them all? How? Dai was the one who never thought of himself. He was the one who had a higher set of morals than anyone else. Daisuke was as innocent as they came. His eyes were blank, devoid of everything except darkness. He looked almost lifeless to the kaitou. “Daisuke?”
“Wait!” Kagome shrieked, patting her chest all over. “Where's my jewel shard!?”
“What do you mean? You lost it!?” Inuyasha panicked.
“For shame, kaitou,” Naraku smirked as he held Kagome's half of the jewel in his hands, “you should've taken me up on my offer. Now you have lost the jewel and your precious boy to me…”
“DAISUKE!” Dark yelled, trying to get a response. “What did you do to him!?”
“Naraku did everything…” Daisuke replied, his voice so emotionless and dripping with darkness that it made the kaitou shiver. “He did everything you and everyone else did not…”
“What are you talking about!?”
The red-head frowned. Naraku placed a chaste kiss on the boy's young lips. “Never mind, Dai-chan. You have proved yourself loyal to me, my pet, and now as a present I will give you them to have your revenge.”
Fear froze Dark and Satoshi solid as a serene, yet sadistic smile spread across the Niwa's face. “Thank you for the gift, Naraku.”
“Shit…” Inuyasha said.
