Chapter 13: "Valentine's Day"
"Seven thirty," Satoshi whispered to himself as he glanced at the ticking clock then back at the bathroom.
It was February. Daisuke had finally entered the end of the first trimester, and he didn't have a clue. Because Daisuke has never been properly educated in terms of pregnancy, the poor boy didn't know much more than the things that had already happened. Daisuke had just taken a shower to help wake him up, and now he was stepping out.
"Niwa," said Satoshi through the bathroom door, "are we going to the college together, or do you want me to go on ahead?"
"Go on ahead," Daisuke yawned. "I still have to pick out what I am going to wear."
"I hope you don't mind, Niwa, but I already picked out something for you to wear. It's hanging on the doorknob, so whenever you are ready, just try it on." ("I think you would look splendid in that outfit.")
Daisuke grabbed the towel hanging on the bar and wrapped it around his body before answering, "Ok. I will."
He dried himself off as he began woolgathering about all the wonderful treats Riku will present him with. Unconsciously, he ran his hand over his stomach and froze for a second. He stared dead ahead as his hands felt around his now more rounded stomach. He closed his eyes slowly, and his head slowly tilted downwards. (" Should I open my eyes?")
( Yes! I want to see!) Dark exclaimed.
Daisuke slowly opened his eyes, looking down at himself, and gasped, "HIKARI!"
Satoshi was just about to open the front door to leave when he heard Daisuke cry his name. Immediately, he sprang back to the bathroom, and barged in, yelling, "What happened?!" He watched as Daisuke looked back at him with a frightened look as his hands caressed his stomach. Satoshi's brows furrowed as he asked, "Niwa, is something wrong?"
"You can see it…" Daisuke mumbled. "My stomach, it's... it's actually round…"
Satoshi allowed himself to take a look from a distance, and indeed, his stomach was beginning to show. It wasn't entirely noticeable, though.
Satoshi gulped and then said, "It's expected to happen, Niwa. Haven't you ever seen a pregnant woman before? They all go through the same thing."
"But it's... it's showing!" Daisuke looked into the mirror. "I mean… you can see it, Hikari! You can see the start of its formation! Maybe I should go to the doctor… Maybe I should have one of those ultra sounds done to check up on my baby."
"Today?" asked Satoshi.
"No! Today is Valentine's! If anything, I want to see my Riku, first."
"Just makes sure she doesn't hug you, or I'm sure she'll wonder what that is."
"That's right," Daisuke's eyes filled with fear, "She loves to glomp me! What if she glomps me and hurts my baby?!"
"Just avoid her."
"But today is the day that lovers come together!" Daisuke argued. "I just can't avoid her!"
"Hmm…" Satoshi eyes began to wander over Daisuke's nude body. How long had it been since he had last seen his beloved without anything on?
"You go ahead and say that," Daisuke pouted, "but isn't today the day for you to hang out with your beloved?"
Satoshi glared at Daisuke. "My beloved? Not this again."
"You've told me this… I think."
"Don't worry about my love life, Niwa. Try on that suit, go to your Riku, receive chocolates from her, and make-out under the starry night while I sit in a dimly lit room listening to Wiz's whines."
"I think I will. Now, where is that suit?"
Satoshi picked it up from the ground. It had fallen while he rushed in to see what troubles were bothering Daisuke.
"It's a nice silk one. Treat it well," he said as he handed it to Daisuke.
Daisuke retrieved his underwear first, threw it on, and then stepped into the pants.
"I hope this fits me…" he muttered. He pulled it up, and right before he was about to zip it all the way up, it stopped midway, "What! This isn't possible! The waist is too small!"
Satoshi's eyes widen. "Don't force it!"
"But this is the size I wear!"
"Niwa, you have to leave room for the growing baby!" Satoshi clarified.
"This is a really nice suit too!" Daisuke looked at Satoshi. "I really want to wear this!"
Satoshi didn't want to see his beloved's day ruined, so he said, "Wait just a sec, I think I know what can help."
He ran out of the room, and into his office where he kept all sorts of pins. He searched through his jar, and found just the one he was looking for. He came back into the bathroom, and said, "This should work." He walked over to the half-dressed Daisuke and pulled at the hem of his pants. "Stay still, or I'll stab you." He took the little pin he had and pierced the fabric as it made its way through. Then he enclosed the needlepoint in the head and said, "There, now it should fit better."
Daisuke smiled, "Thanks, Hikari."
Satoshi looked up, and as he did, his eyes traveled over Daisuke's body perversely. He couldn't stop his mind from producing vivid images of seeing his sweet Daisuke beneath his aroused body, panting hard, screaming his name, dying for his touch while his entire body was covered in the essence of his love.
"Hikari?" It took only Daisuke's voice to break Satoshi from his perverted thoughts.
"Yes?"
"I think I'd like to get dressed by my self from this point on. You can go on ahead of me. We are just having a college festival. I'm sure there will be lots of girls who would want to see you."
("Why would I care about any of those girls?") Satoshi thought to himself. ("They are not Daisuke Niwa.")
Satoshi nodded and walked out of the bathroom. Daisuke smiled to himself as he continued dressing.
"Now to make myself look extra good for Riku."
DAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWA
(Why did you help Daisuke find something presentable for him to wear so that he could make a lasting impression on Riku?) Krad asked.
("I've wanted to see him in that suit, myself, for sometime now.")
(So then for your own reasons?)
("I hate Valentine's Day, Krad.")
(So do I. Such a cheery day. It makes me sick.)
("Everyone except the one I wan, showers me in chocolates, and I am unable to return any of it on White Day.")
(You should give me aboxof chocolates or two, and then we can comfort each other while we devour the sweet morsels .)
"Honestly, Krad, that's all you think about."
Satoshi leaned his body against the school wall. "God, I wish I had someone."
(Then come into my world.)
"I am not so foolish at to enter the sadistic angel's snare again. I won't give you another chance at having me."
(Figures,) the sadistic angle sneered.
Satoshi then turned his head to see Daisuke arriving at school. The redhead didn't even have a chance to enter through the gates before Riku popped out of nowhere.
"Daisuke, my love, happy Valentine's Day!"
"Happy Valentine's Day, Riku!" Daisuke exclaimed. "And here, I brought you some chocolates."
Satoshi watched as Daisuke handed Riku a box of chocolates.
"Thank you!" Riku kissed his cheek and squealed, "I love you!"
She tried to hug him, but Daisuke backed away.
"Riku, let's go to the fair grounds. I'm sure they have some great foods for us to dine on."
"They do, and Risa is in charge of the sweets booth. I'm sure she can give us a discount."
"He's beautiful in that outfit..." Satoshi softly whispered to himself. "I knew he would be."
"Hey Riku, can I ask a favor of you?" Daisuke asked.
Satoshi turned to listen again.
"Sure, anything," responded Riku.
"Well, I know that we are lovers and everything, and we love to do the things that lovers do, but I need to tell you that I don't want you suddenly leaping onto me and forcing all your weight onto my body. I'm not that strong a fellow, and I would appreciate it."
"Smart decision, Niwa," Satoshi said to himself.
Riku at first gave Daisuke a suspicious look, and then she said, "I guess I could avoid doing that… but why? Does it bother you?"
"Well…" Daisuke rubbed the back of his head. "It kinda does."
"Well, you should have told me that ahead of time!" She placed her hands on her hips and continued, "Then I wouldn't have done it to you so many times."
"It's kinda crucial that you don't do that to me from now on," Daisuke smiled. "And will you please warn me, too, before you hug me ? I'm saying this because it's Valentine's Day, and I know that you are gonna want to hug me often today, but please… don't…"
"Ok, ok! I get it. I don't need one of your long and repeated speeches." She grabbed his hand. "Can we go already? I'm starving, and I want food."
Riku pulled Daisuke off, and Satoshi followed from a distance.
"I feel like a criminal for spying on them, but it's for a good cause, … isn't it?"
(As long as it is to keep an eye out for Daisuke, then it is, but if you are going to be lusting over Riku's boyfriend, then maybe it isn't. You are then not behaving any better than those fan girls that you've tried to rid yourself of for years.)
Satoshi found himself blushing, "Never… why would you say that, Krad? I know I can't have him to myself, and I'd far rather keep my emotions and feelings for him locked up in my heart where I know they won't be a burden. That's the only way I can continue to live with him."
(You're living a lie,) Krad sneered, (and containment only lasts so long. Temptation will eventuallyget the better of you.)
"Hikari?" Satoshi turned around to see Risa holding a big cardboard box in her arms. She smiled as she asked, "What are you doing here? The festival is over there. Oh! Are you waiting for someone?"
"No, I'm not. Don't mind me. I was just clearing my head."
"Well, if you aren't too busy, then could you help me?"
"With what?" asked Satoshi.
"This box is really heavy. Can you carry it for me?"
"Sure." Satoshi walked over to Risa, took the box in his arms, and then asked, "Where do you want me to put this?"
"It's actually full of sweets. I need to bring it to the sweets booth for our many costumers."
"Just lead the way."
Satoshi followed Risa to the sweets booth, and he placed the box on the ground so that the girls could go through it and sort out the items. Risa then pulled out a small purpled-wrapped item and handed it to Satoshi.
"You don't have to return it on White Day. It's a token of thanks."
Satoshi took the small wrapping and opened it. Inside was an assortment of chocolates.
"Thank you, Risa." She smiled and nodded. Satoshi then picked up one of the chocolates and plopped it into his mouth. It was sweet. Sweeter than most chocolates and had filling in the center. "This is delicious," he mumbled.
"It's from America. It's from this famous company called Sees' Candy. We imported most of our chocolates, so that's why they are kinda costly," Risa explained.
Satoshi smiled then went on his way. He only had about an hour left to enjoy himself before he would have to find where he would be working. He volunteered to bake teats for another booth, so he was guessing it was somewhere in the building. As he walked along, not paying much attention to the many voices that called out to him or the many scents of food and treats, he came across the lunch area, and from the corner of his eyes, he spotted red gravity-defying hair.
"Niwa?"
Satoshi spun around to see Riku spoon feeding Daisuke. "Now open wide! I've spent months of training to get this dish just right! "
"Huhumm..." Daisuke chewed the food then stopped.
Satoshi raised a brow when he noticed that Daisuke suddenly looked like he needed a barf bag.
"Isn't it wonderful?!" Riku complemented her own food.
"Umm…" Daisuke resumed chewing to avoid choking, otherwise, he would have just swallowed it. "It's…umm…great," he said once he finally managed to get that thing down his throat.
"Great! You can have some more!" She held the spoon to Daisuke's mouth, forcing more of her tofu-infested soup into Daisuke's mouth.
(Don't eat it Daisuke!) Dark cried out. (Whatever foreign object ends up in your stomach ends up in my mind! And in the baby's, too! You shouldn't be swallowing inedible substances in the first place!
"Wait!" Daisuke stopped her.
"You don't like my cooking do you?!"
"It's not that! I think you are a wonderful chef!"
(Chef my ass!) Dark interrupted.
"It's just that…. I… that I…"
"I'm sorry to ruin the moment," Satoshi stepped in. "I apologize for Niwa's lack of consumption, but he just ate breakfast, and if I am correct, his diet doesn't allow him to eat large quantities of food within four hours at a time."
Riku stared at Satoshi for a brief second before she sneered and looked back at Daisuke.
"I don't know if you have noticed it or not, but doesn't Hikari always seem to be around us?" Riku asked Daisuke in an annoyingly low tone.
"I have my reasons," said Satoshi in a cheery voice.
"Since when did you become Daisuke's mentor?"
"I am not Daisuke's guardian, nor mentor. I'm his friend and roommate," said Satoshi.
"And this gives you permission to always pop up on us because…?"
"Aw, come on, Riku. I'm his—"
(Bitch.)
"—Friend, too." Daisuke mentally yelled at Dark, ("I'm not his bitch!")
Satoshi felt enlightened once those simple words spilled from Daisuke's mouth.
"Well…" Riku knew just how to ruin the moment. "This isn't a day for friends; this is a day for lovers." She gave a Satoshi a look that read, 'Leave now or die.'
Satoshi returned a look that replied 'Not a chance.'
"Oh! Come on you guys! You're acting like a bunch of territorial cats!" Daisuke said, trying to stop them.
"Maybe that's what this is about," said Satoshi.
"What?" Daisuke looked up at Satoshi, who was currently having a staring contest with Riku. "Please, stop fighting!"
(Unlike a dog, a seme will fight to keep his bitch,) said Dark.
("I'm not gay, Dark!")
(I beg to differ. If I remember correctly, wasn't it you demanding that Satoshi speed up his pace? Wasn't it you that came hard when he touched you? Wasn't it you that kissed him back eagerly the following morning?)
"Grrr…." Daisuke was getting fed up.
"Why are you always hanging around us? Are you jealous of something?" asked Riku.
"Wouldn't you like to know," replied Satoshi.
"WOULDYOUTWOCUTITOUT?!" Daisuke screamed. "It's Valentine's Day. I want to enjoy it! I don't want nor need any arguments on a day like this! Why can't we all just get along?!" Once Daisuke finished, he was out of breath.
"We could," said Satoshi, "but it isn't going to happen."
With that, Satoshi left, and Daisuke's stomach was hurting.
"Ha! That's right! Run away like the loser you are!" Riku yelled out after him.
Daisuke clenched his stomach, "Owy… I think I shouldn't have eaten that soup."
(Hehe… if your baby was any older, then it would have thrown it up.)
"I think I am going to barf!" Daisuke made a quick scan of the yard and found a bathroom. "Riku, I'm going to be right back!"
He sprang across the yard to the nearest restroom.
"Daisuke!" Riku called after him. "Are you ok?" He was already vomiting in the toilet at that moment. "My poor Daisuke," said Riku. "I knew that Satoshi made him sick, but I didn't know if affected him this much."
Several minutes later, Daisuke stood at the edge of the sink, rinsing his mouth out.
"Tofu barf. Eww… I never knew that tofu could taste so bad. Or smell bad. Only Riku could make something like tofu taste so horrible."
"Daisuke?" Riku called to him from outside the restroom doors. "Are you ok in there?"
"Yeah! I'm coming out now." Daisuke stepped out of the restroom and was met with a hug. "Riku! I told you not to hug me before you tell me!"
"I can't help it. I love you so much."
"Yeah… I do too, but this is crucial."
"Ok, I'm sorry," Riku proceeded in hugging Daisuke closer, and then she felt between them. She pulled back a bit, then looked down.
"Is something wrong, Riku?" Daisuke began sweating bullets.
She moved her hand over Daisuke's stomach, and Daisuke jumped back. "Hey! Don't touch me there!"
"Are you gaining weight, you glutton?"
"What? Me? No. Never! I'm just building on my muscle."
(Muscle Mary wannabe!)
("Zip it, Dark!")
"No offense, Daisuke, but when men want to get fit, they tend to exercise and lose excess body fat. Not gain it."
"Are you calling me fat?!"
"No. I'm making you aware of it so that you don't get any fatter." She stared at Daisuke with half lidded eyes.
"Hhmp. Well, I'll have you know that this isn't body fat."
"Call it whatever you want; it's still flab."
"No it's not!" Daisuke crossed his arms.
"Ok. Fine. For today, we won't call it flab; we'll call it baby fat." Daisuke narrowed his eyes at Riku. "Aw, is the lil Daisuke mad?"
"Don't give me that baby talk."
"Come on, I want to do something fun."
"Like what?" Daisuke asked as he looked around.
"They have a love boat ride. I want to go on that."
Daisuke gaped, "How did they even find the place to set it up!"
"You'd be surprised," she tugged on Daisuke's hand, "Come on; let's go!"
Riku pulled Daisuke out of the grassy yard, around the science wing, and to the gym. "See, here it is!"
"It's huge!" Daisuke stared at the large swan boats that came around the corner, stopped to unload lovers, pick up lovers, and then disappeared into the 'Realm of Love.' "That's a corny name," said Daisuke.
"What do you expect? It's supposed to be all mushy. It's Valentine's Day." Riku had hearts in her eyes from admiration. "Come on, Daisuke! Let's ride it, please!"
"Ummm…" Daisuke wanted to shake his head, but he nodded, instead.
"Yes!"
Riku grabbed Daisuke's arm and tugged him towards the line, but then she stopped.
"What is it?" asked Daisuke.
"You have to pay." Riku turned her head. "There!"
She tugged Daisuke into another line, "Lemme see. It's twenty tokens per admission but thirty per couple."
(Ha! What loser would ride this ride by himself?!) Dark laughed.
("The depressed kind.")
"Two tickets or one for the lover's deal?" asked the man in the ticket booth.
"We want the lover's deal," said Daisuke.
"Thirty tokens please."
Daisuke handed him the tokens, and the man gave them two pink tickets as he replied, "You have a good day."
"Thirty tokens! Geez! You know how much yen that was? We might as well have gone to a public one and spent less than that."
"Awe, come on Daisuke! It's going to be worth it."
They came into the line, and there was a wooden fence between the lines that separated the guys from the girls. "Don't be sad," said Riku, "We'll be able to see each other in a while," with that, she vanished behind the fence.
(Good riddance) said Dark.
Daisuke took his place in line, and shook his head, ("What if I get the wrong person?")
(Well then, it sucks for you.)
("You're very encouraging.")
On the other side of the line, Riku was getting eager to ride the ride, but then Risa popped up out of nowhere. "Riku! Thank god that I found you!"
"What is it, Risa?"
"It's father! He got into a car accident! You have to come now!"
"What! Father!" Before another thought crossed her mind, Riku ran off with Risa.
SATOSHIHIKARISATOSHIHIKARISATOSHIHIKARI
Daisuke stood at the front of the line and saw the love boat coming. Daisuke stepped out of the line and was about to board the boat until he noticed that Riku wasn't around. "Riku?" He looked at the girl's line but saw no Riku. ( "Great! Where did she go?!")
(Sucker.)
"Niwa?"
"How can she just leave me?!"
"Niwa!"
"Huh?" Daisuke spun around to see Satoshi.
"You're holding up the line, Niwa. Are you going to be boarding or not?"
"Umm… Riku I guess left, so I guess I'm just going to be leaving. See ya!"
"No, wait!" Satoshi blocked Daisuke's path, "You paid for the lover's deal, right? That's kind of costly. You should just ride. Otherwise, you just wasted your money."
"But I don't have anyone to ride with. I'll feel like a loser." Daisuke looked down as he blushed, "That's embarrassing."
"Then will you ride with me?" Satoshi asked, hoping that Daisuke would agree just this once with him.
"Well," Daisuke looked at the swan love boat and back at Satoshi, "I don't really want to anymore."
"Please. You paid for it. You shouldn't have to waste your money."
Daisuke shrugged, "Ok. I guess it won't be so bad."
("Thank you!") Satoshi knew that someone up in the heavens loved him.
Daisuke got into the swan love boat, and Satoshi climbed in after him.
"Don't look so scared," said Satoshi when he saw Daisuke fidgeting in his seat.
"I'm not!" ("I just don't feel comfortable being here around you.")
The love boat set sail, and they entered the 'Realm of Love.' Inside, it was different than Daisuke thought. Instead of it being like a cave, like in all the movies he's seen, the ceiling was painted black and they had tiny light bulbs to represent stars. It was almost like they had flowed into the middle of the sea and were under a starry night. Daisuke relaxed his head back and completely forgot that Satoshi was next to him. The gleaming lights hypnotized his eyes, and he couldn't help but daze off to the sound of the ocean, which was really a recording.
There was a sweet aroma floating in the air that covered up the chlorine's scent, and a cool breeze flowed through Daisuke's hair.
"This is heavenly," Daisuke whispered to himself.
"Is that so?" Satoshi asked as he scooted closer to Daisuke.
"Huh?" Daisuke had forgotten about Satoshi. "Yeah…"
"You haven't gotten motion sickness. I am surprised. I thought for sure that you would have."
"Well, no. Not this time…" Daisuke leaned over to allow his hand to grace the water's surface since there was plenty of room between the swan and the wall.
"Do you think that it is because the ride is so smooth?" Satoshi asked, hoping to engage himself in a conversation with Daisuke.
"That might be it." Daisuke withdrew his hand.
(I know this isn't my style, but if you want to draw out his attention, talk about something you both can talk about,) Krad stated.
("Like what? He hardly looks at me.")
There was no answer.
"Niwa."
"Hmm?"
"Umm…" Curse his inability to engage anyone in converse.
"Look! A waterfall!" Daisuke pointed in the direction where there was a random waterfall falling out of the ceiling.
("I guess lovers are supposed to think of it as falling out of space,") Satoshi pondered.
"Too bad we can't steer our swan, otherwise, I would have liked to go under it," Daisuke signed.
"Niwa."
"Yes?"
"What happened to Riku?" Satoshi thought that this would get him to talk.
"I don't know. She just vanished. I wonder if she is playing a trick on me or something." Daisuke leaned against the seat and sighed, "This thing is so comfy."
"Do you suppose that she is mad at you?"
"Why would she be? Because I didn't want to eat her cooking?"
"You'd be surprised to know how easily girls get mad."
"And I suppose you know?" asked Daisuke. Satoshi grinned. "So that proves it!" Daisuke sat up and glared at Satoshi in the eyes.
"Proves what?" asked Satoshi.
"That's you've had a girlfriend or something like that. So tell me!"
"Tell you what?"
"Who was she?"
"My girlfriend?"
"Yes!" Daisuke was on the edge of his seat.
"I never had one, Niwa. Unlike you, I just don't have time for one."
"Then why did you tell me that you know girls?"
"Because I do. I have to put up with them everyday at work, at school, and at home."
Daisuke narrowed his eyes threateningly, "Are you calling me a girl?"
"You have all their qualities, save one."
"And what would that be?"
Satoshi's eyes wandered down for a moment then back up, "That."
Daisuke blushed, "I'm not a girl! And I know we've had this conversation before!"
"Stop yelling. You'll upset everyone else on this ride."
"Since when did you start to care about anyone else?" Daisuke asked.
"I have to. I'm the chief commander of the police force."
"So what? I bet there are a lot of police out there that just do it for the job." Daisuke turned away and crossed his arms.
There was a moment of silence, then Satoshi spoke, "Then do you want me to prove it to you?"
Daisuke blinked and looked back, "Prove what?"
"That I care for… you."
"Why bother? You care just because of-"
Satoshi reached over and pushed Daisuke on his back, forcefully. "What are you doing?" Daisuke began to panic.
"I don't want you to think that I don't care for you," Satoshi's face was just inches above Daisuke's. He was so close that a few strands of his hair graced Daisuke's forehead.
"Hikari?"
"I've done so much for you to show that I care. I've given you my respect by heeding your demands. I've given you a place to stay so that our baby wouldn't be in jeopardy. I've always been honest with you so that you wouldn't have a reason to mistrust me, and I've even taken responsibility for you so that if anything happened to you, I am the one to blame," Satoshi leaned forward to rest his head in the crook of Daisuke's neck. "If you have even taken a moment to think about all that I've done for you, then you wouldn't be denying my concern. If you're that oblivious, then let me spell it out for you. The only one that I am loyal to… is you." Satoshi turned his face towards Daisuke's neck and gently kissed it. A feverish blush mapped itself across Daisuke's cheeks. "I don't understand why you keep questioning my devotion." Satoshi leaned in once again to kiss Daisuke's neck while his tongue flickered over Daisuke's skin. "I care so much for you, Niwa."
"What… What are you trying to say?" Daisuke felt his body shivering with the gentle touch of Satoshi's tongue.
"Don't you understand? I love you." Satoshi embraced Daisuke.
And it was like time stopped. "You love me?"
"So much," Satoshi whispered.
"…No," Daisuke could see the light at the end of the ride. "Let go!" Daisuke pushed at Satoshi's shoulders and ripped him from his body. "You can't!" Daisuke cried. "You can't love me! I love Riku!"
"That's why I never told you, Niwa." Satoshi sat up.
"How long have you loved me?!"
"I don't remember," Satoshi closed his eyes.
"Were you in love me that day you made love to me?" Daisuke asked.
"I thought I was going to die the moment you walked out of my apartment. I can't see life without you."
"Baka!"
"Niwa, please don't think of this as a b-"
SLAP!
Daisuke jumped off the ride and made a run from it without a specific destination. Satoshi covered his left cheek with his hand and looked up at all the other gasping people. They were whispering something to each other and because they were looking at him, Satoshi knew they were talking about him.
He looked down and closed, "I am a fool." Maybe if he couldn't see them, then they couldn't see him.
Risa stood in the security room looking out the window. She was watching. She had seen the whole thing. She had her hand clenched over her heart and a most crestfallen appearance.
"Why, Daisuke?"
