Chapter 12: “This is Just the Way Things Are”
("I don't know what to think any more, Krad... He left with her... again. It's not anything that I wouldn't expect from two young lovers, but.. still. Why did he leave me during the dawn of Christmas?")
"Hikari?"
("And when will he return to me? When will I finally get my chance to say Merry Christmas to him, and when will I receive my Merry Christmas from him?")
"Hikari? Are you alright?" Risa lightly tapped Satoshi on the shoulder, "Satoshi?"
"Huh?" Satoshi snapped out of his wondering thoughts.
"Are you ok?”
“I was just thinking.”
“Oh, ok.”
Satoshi nodded, "Well then, please excuse me."
Satoshi turned to walk away from Risa. She allowed him to get only so far before she said, "Merry Christmas, Hikari!"
Satoshi froze for a second then turned around, "Thank you," his eyes softened, "And Merry Christmas to you too, Ms. Harada."
Satoshi walked out of the mansion without saying any goodbyes, leaving a pondering Risa, "I wonder what has on his mind. He seems really upset."
DAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWA
He nearly broke off the door as he entered his house. He was furious because Riku had taken Daisuke from him, and upset because Daisuke wasn't with him for the dawn of Christmas. He didn't know what to kick first; the chair in his path, or the big white couch. He wouldn't have neglected kicking an object, but a sudden noise coming from the kitchen caught his attention. It sounded like the closing of the refrigerator door. But he was sure there was no one else here when he left, and he sure as hell didn't give anyone the keys. He crept towards the kitchen. There was no one. There was no way anyone could fit in the cabernets, and there weren't any corners that could hide anything, so then he turned his attention towards the refrigerator. He slowly wrapped on hand around the handle, and backed away as the door slowly opened. Finally the light broke through the corners, and Satoshi fully opened the door, but saw nothing. "I guess I was just imaging things."
(No. There is something here.)
("Are you sure?")
(Haha. Yes. An uninvited guest, so to speak.)
("Is that so?")
Satoshi was about to close the door, but when he released it, the door didn't close all the way. "Hmm?"
Something caught Satoshi's eye. It was a bunny like foot sticking out of the corner keeping the door from fully closing. "Is that Wiz?"
"..kyu..."
"It is Wiz!"
Satoshi opened the door, and rushed to pick up the white ball of fur, but then the creature came back to reality, and bit Satoshi's finger before he could pick the poor thing up. "Ouch!"
Satoshi withdrew his hands, and the door slammed on Wiz's face. "KYU!"
(I can't believe it! That damn fur ball bit you!)
"Wiz!" Satoshi opened the door again, and the white ball of fluff slide onto the floor, "Are you ok?"
The white bunny like creature had spiral eyes. It was obviously confused. "Wiz, what were you doing in my-"
"Kyu!" The bunny suddenly snapped out of it, and sprang out of the kitchen.
"Wait! Don't jump on my couch! You're covered in syrup!"
It just so happened that when the door slammed on Wiz, the chocolate syrup fell on Wiz, and covered him in chocolate! And now the chocolate covered ball of fluff was hoping on Satoshi's white couches. "How am I suppose to clean them now!"
Wiz turned around, and arched its back as it hissed at Satoshi. Satoshi sighed. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just want you off my couch.”
Wiz continued hissing.
"What are you even doing in my apartment?"
"Kyu."
"Is there something that you want?"
Wiz refrained from hissing and nodded.
"And what would that be?"
"Kyu!"
"Sorry?"
Wiz jumped off the couch and towards the kitchen leaving a trail of chocolate feet prints along the way. Satoshi just watched as Wiz scratched on the door and kyued. Opening the door, he observed as Wiz pointed and tried to jump to the top shelf. His eyes wondered up, and at that moment he knew what it was that Wiz wanted to badly. It was a bowl of strawberries. "Kyu kyu kyu!"
Satoshi picked up the bowl of strawberries and placed it on the floor where Wiz was, and closed the door. Wiz immediately began eating the strawberries while Satoshi stood and watched. "Wiz, do you know when Niwa will be back?"
Wiz ignored Satoshi as he continued devouring the strawberries.
("Why do I feel like everyone is avoiding me today?")
(That's just the way some things may be for now on, Satoshi. But I shall not deny you this, Merry Christmas, my tamer.)
"..."
(Not speaking to me again? It is because you wanted Daisuke to wish you a Merry Christmas before everyone else? Did you want to wish him a Merry Christmas too before everyone? Did you want to at least spend a minute by his side for Christmas before he ran off with Riku? Did you want to present your gift before he received another one before yours? And are you still waiting for him to present you with something before Christmas day is over?)
"..."
(It's not too late, Satoshi. Christmas has just begun. It's only like what… Just a bit after midnight? You still have about twenty three hours to do all the things you want to have done.)
"But I wanted to share this time with him. I wanted to spend this Christmas with just Daisuke."
At that moment, Wiz looked up at the sadden Satoshi. "Kyu?"
"He'll never understand what he means to me, and what it would have meant if he would have shared even the shortest amount of time with me for Christmas."
Satoshi sat beside Wiz, wrapping his arms around his shivering cold body, "It would have been the first Christmas in years that I wasn't alone."
"Kyu...," Wiz looked at the strawberry that he held in his hand, and back at Satoshi.
Suddenly, there was this weird shape-shifting sound that came from beside Satoshi. Satoshi then looked up to see Daisuke looking back at him. "Ni.. Niwa?"
"Kyu."
"Wiz... I forgot. You can morph into different things."
"I'm sorry that Daisuke couldn't be with you for Christmas, Satoshi."
Just the sound of Wiz speaking his name as Daisuke made Satoshi shiver all over. "You are still Wiz."
"I know that I cannot replace Daisuke, but at least I can be him so that it can be like he is here with you."
Satoshi smiled, "Thanks, Wiz."
"Kyu!"
Wiz jumped at Satoshi and wrapped his arms around him, "Merry Christmas, Satoshi,"
Wiz's grip on Satoshi tighten.
("He even smells like Daisuke...")
Satoshi brought his arms up to hold Wiz. ("It's almost as if Daisuke was here right now holding me.")
"Did you have a gift for Daisuke?" Wiz asked.
"Yes... but it's nothing special."
"Is it an artwork by the Hikari family?"
"Yes. It was and has been handed down by all men in our family to give to their wives."
"Wives? Wife? But Daisuke isn't your wife, Satoshi," Wiz said as he pulled away from Satoshi.
"No. There is another reason why I must give him the gift."
"Is it just as a gift?"
"It's this traditional thing that husbands give their wives the special gift."
"Does it mean anything?"
"Just that they love them."
Wiz's eyes turned to the size of tennis balls. "Why are you giving this to Daisuke, Satoshi?" the little curious bunny asked.
"I am not the one to tell you, Wiz. I'm sorry, but in all good time you will soon see. It will be hard to hide it later on."
Wiz raised a brow in confusion. "Do you love him, Satoshi," he asked.
"Have I made it that obvious?"
Wiz nodded.
"Then don't you find it strange that one like yourself can easily see this, but someone like Niwa seems blind to everything that I've done?"
Wiz nodded, "Are you ever going to tell him?"
"What good will it do if I tell Daisuke that I love him when I know that he obviously doesn't feel the same way? He loves Riku, Wiz, and no matter how much I wish I could change that, there is nothing that I can do that will make him fall in love with me."
Satoshi stroked Wiz's cheek, and Wiz relaxed against the soft touch of his hand. "This is just reality, Satoshi."
"Love hurts. Life is just flat-out sadistic," Satoshi withdrew his touch and walked out of the kitchen.
"Kyu," Wiz turned back into his original shape and followed Satoshi with a strawberry between his paws.
"I don't know what to do, Wiz. I want to stay up and wait for Daisuke to come back, but I don't even know if he'll be coming back anytime soon. I know he's safe, but because of the condition he's in, it makes me worry about him more."
"Kyu?" Wiz tilted his head.
"It's ok, I guess. I'll just sleep for now and hope that when I awake, this place won't be so dark and cold."
Satoshi laid himself on the couch and Wiz sat on his stomach. "It's so cold here. I never realized it before, but this place is just so uninviting."
Sealing his eyes from all things around him, he soon fell asleep.
SATOSHIHIKARISATOSHIHIKARISATOSHIHIKARI
The door flung open, and Riku jumped onto her bed, motioning for Daisuke to join her. Daisuke hesitated, “Riku, I don't think this is such a good idea.”
“What's wrong?” She asked, “We are lovers, are we not? What's wrong with wanting to express our love?”
“It's not that, Riku,” he sat next to her on her bed, “It's just that I'd rather wait till we are married.”
“Now-a-days, who waits till then?” Riku pulled Daisuke down onto her lips.
(“Why is she being so forceful?!”) “Ri... ku,” Daisuke's words were swallowed by Riku's kiss.
“Stop trying to avoid me,” Riku said as she pulled away, “I want this, and I know that you do too!”
She pushed Daisuke onto his back, and straddled his hips. “Ah!” Daisuke immediately pushed her off, and she fell backwards; falling onto the floor and applying all her weight unto her rump. “Why did you do that!” Riku demanded when her senses came back.
“OH MY GOD! I'm so sorry, Riku!” Daisuke jumped off the bed, and tried to help Riku up.
“My butt hurts now!” She gave Daisuke a death glare, “It's your fault!”
“It would have hurt too if we went through!”
“Well, it doesn't matter. A little bit more pain wouldn't hurt, right?” she winked at Daisuke.
He blushed, “Not now!”
“No one is here, Daisuke. It's just the two of us. Do you know how many lovers would kill to be in our place?”
(Hahah! She's so full of herself!) Laughed Dark.
“Riku, we can't do this right now. Later, when we are married, we can.”
“Daisuke, this isn't fair to me.”
“And you think it is for me!” (“How am I suppose to do itwhen I am pregnant?”)
“Men. You all think alike,” Riku pouted.
“No we don't!”
Riku then smiled, “At least allow me to give you something special tonight,” she glided her between Daisuke's legs.
“Riku!” Daisuke blushed.
“Don't you think about me when you mastur-“
“Don't say things like that!” Daisuke's face was redder than his hair.
“You're so cute when you are embarrassed,” Riku commented.
“I am not…,” Daisuke looked at the floor.
Riku stood up, and sat of her bed, “Then what are we gonna do? We can't just sit here all night long.”
“I'd feel more comfortable doing this with you, Riku, if we get married.”
“I want to get married in the spring, Daisuke.”
“In the spring?!”
“Yes. Like around that time when the carry blossoms are blooming.”
(Why does everyone want a wedding in the spring? It's allergy season! Why not a morbid wedding during Halloween?)
(“I don't know, Dark.”)
“Riku, let my find the perfect wedding ring to fit your perfect finger, and once we are engaged, we can decide things further.”
“Thank you, Daisuke,” she gave him a peck on his lips, “Now, I think it would be better that you leave, although I really don't want you to go.”
“I'd like to stay here with you too, Riku, but I'm not sure it's such a good idea.”
“Why is that?”
“I have some things I need to do.”
Riku nodded, “I understand.”
“Thank you,” Daisuke stood up, and walked towards the door, “Merry Christmas, Riku.”
With that said, Daisuke left.
DAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWA
As Daisuke approached the door to Satoshi's apartment, he wondered if Satoshi was there, and if he was, how mad would he be since Daisuke didn't tell him where he was. “I hope he won't be too mad. I feel so bad about always making Hikari worry about me.”
Daisuke pressed on the door bell, and waited patiently. “Please don't be mad, please don't be mad.”
Approaching footsteps could be heard, and soon there was the sound that the lock made when being unlocked A few more noises could be heard, and then the door opened, revealing a very mad Satoshi. “Uh… hi?” Daisuke didn't want to make Satoshi any angrier.
“Where were you?” Satoshi's voice was stern.
Daisuke felt guilty. He knew that Satoshi would worry about him leaving with Riku, but he ignored it. He was ignorant of Satoshi's worries, “Wouldn't you like to know?”
“Don't give that to me now, Niwa,” Satoshi sounded agitated.
“It's Christmas, Hikari. I just want eat some cookies, and go.”
“Don't you think I would like that too and more?”
“Huh?” Daisuke stared at Satoshi, “What do you mean by that?”
“I care for you, Daisuke-“
“Don't lie. You never cared about me until this happened,” Daisuke voice was fragile.
"You know that isn't true, Niwa. I've always cared about you, but I've shown it in my
own ways. That night I made love to you... it..."
"Did you mean it?"
"I... I..."
"It was a curse that Dark ever found that bracelet!" Daisuke broke out in tears.
"Stop being so dramatic!" ("If anyone in this house should feel hurt, then that's me!")
"I can't help it! When I look at you, all these emotions inside of me intensify, and I can't control it! It's goes crazy, and I am either furious or upset!"
"Please don't be upset with me, Niwa. I just feel that I have to protect you, since only you and I know the truth."
"I'm not your wife, I'm not your boyfriend, nor am I your lover. Just let me pass so I can help myself to some cookies and leave," Daisuke walked pass Satoshi.
"Merry Christmas, Niwa," Satoshi muttered under his breath.
Daisuke froze for a second. ("That's right... its Christmas morning.") He turned to look at Satoshi who hasn't moved an inch, "Maybe for you it is, Hikari, but you just ruined it for me."
Satoshi wanted to avoid the drama, so he simply said, “There are no cookies here, Niwa. We didn't get a chance to bake any.”
“What!” Daisuke spun around, “Then what are we gonna leave Santa!”
“Santa?” Satoshi raised a brow, “Don't tell me you still believe in Santa.”
“Of course I do! If he didn't exist then who mysteriously places the presents under the tree before the children awake!”
“If you thought logically, then you would have realized that it is impossible for one man to deliver presents to every child on earth in just one night.”
“Well, Santa is magic.”
“Then maybe he can make cookies appear magically.”
“No! We're supposed to give Santa cookies!”
“I don't think he could eat all those cookies in one night even if he wanted to.”
“You're just jealous that no one would do that for you!” Daisuke froze when he just realized what he had said. It was cold and uncalled for.
Satoshi looked down at the floor, “Are you satisfied with yourself?” he looked back up at Daisuke.
“Uh…,” Daisuke didn't know what to say.
“If you don't have anything to say, then just remain silent.”
“I've said enough. I'm going to be leaving now.”
Daisuke was just about to walk out the door, when Satoshi said, “Don't forget to change your pants.”
Daisuke blushed, “You didn't have to remind me of that!”
Satoshi grinned as he advanced towards Daisuke, “My apologizes.”
Daisuke turned around when he noticed that Satoshi's voice seem awfully close, “Hikari?”
Satoshi was about five feet away from him, and appeared in the act of moving closer, “I just wanted to make sure you would be alright.”
“Stop worrying about me,” Daisuke blushed.
Satoshi leaned against the wall, and teased, “Whatever you wish, master.”
That last word sounded like a combination of both Satoshi's and Krad's voice, and it sent mischievous shivers up Daisuke's spin. (“I almost forgot about Krad.”)
(How could you forget about him! How many sadistic angels do you know that are out to kill you!)
(“Krad wouldn't kill me, because I am delivering Satoshi's child; Krad's next vessel.”)
(How can you be so sure? What if it is a girl? What if it is my vessel? OHMYGOD! What if we are united?!)
(“You worry too much, Dark.”)
(I'm Dark Mousy! I am the legendary phantom thief! I am gonna be united with the Hikari bloodline! Daisuke! You have so screwed up! Couldn't you have found someone else to screw! Did you have to wear that bracelet!)
(“Blame it on me as always!”) “I hate it when people blame things on me! It's not my fault, Dark!”
Satoshi flinched at Daisuke's sudden shout out, “Is Dark troubling you again, Niwa?”
Daisuke blushed when he realized he was yelling out loud, “See what you made me do?”
Daisuke blamed Dark in a dangerously low tone, “Yes. As he usually is. Well, if you would excuse me, I am gonna change my pants,” Daisuke slipped away into Satoshi's room to change.
Satoshi stood outside the room waiting patiently like how a dog does for his master, and after a few minutes, Daisuke emerged. “Are you leaving right now? At this very moment?”
“Yeah. My parents are up all night when it is Christmas, so I want to visit them.”
“Wouldn't you rather let them have their peace?” Satoshi advanced towards Daisuke once again.
“But I want to see them.”
“Then go. I can't stop you,” Satoshi's advances came to a halt.
There was a moment of silence then Daisuke said, “Don't you have anyone to see on a day like this?”
“When your entire family is dead and your foster father isn't around anymore, no.”
“Oh, that's right! He's isn't anymore…,” Daisuke's words trailed off.
“Stay here, Niwa,” Satoshi whispered, “It's safer here anyways, plus there you won't have to fret about wetting your pants,” Satoshi grinned.
“Don't remind me! That's going to stay with me for the rest of my life!”
There was a tender pause.
“I'll stay, Hikari,” said Daisuke, “For the rest of today, but can we at least bake some cookies? I really don't want Santa to pass over this house without leaving me any gifts.”
“I'm sure he'll stop by. How could anyone forget about you? It's inevitable.”
A/N: I don't have very much time on my hands so naturally I can't cover everyday of the next nine months. That will be too much work for me and ridiculously long XD But starting next chapter, there is gonna be a skip. Ok, so don't be confused when it is suddenly sometime next year. Oh, and yes I know. Satoshi didn't give Daisuke his Christmas present. He will later on. Don't worry.
