Chapter One: A New Discovery

Ichijouji Ken opened his eyes and sighed. Silently, so as not to wake Minomon, he crawled out from under the covers. Quickly dressing, Ken grabbed his Digivice and D-terminal and opened the gate to the Digital World located on his laptop. Entering the Digital World, he sought out a second portal, one that would take him to Motomiya Daisuke's house-his bedroom, to be more precise.

Daisuke needed tutoring in school, and had hassled Ken until he agreed to help. The only problem was the other Digidestined. They all, excluding Daisuke, refused to accept Ken, convinced that he was the Digimon Kaiser and would never change. They didn't know how right they were, Ken thought ruefully. The Kaiser was a part of him; the same part that allowed him to ring Digimon and make them hate instead of love; the same part that enjoyed domination and the suffering of others so inferior to himself; the same part that gave him access to the Dark Ocean; the same part that~

"No, stop it right now!" Ken scolded himself. "Thinking like that won't help anything. You can overcome this, quit being the Kaiser and just be Ken Ichijouji." By the time he reached Daisuke's room, he had convinced himself that he could overcome this.

While he waited for Daisuke to return from wherever he was, Ken took the opportunity to do a little research. This was, after all, the first time he had been in Daisuke's bedroom. This was his first visit to any part of Daisuke's house, and he wanted to learn what he could about the brunette.

What he saw surprised him. Daisuke had surprisingly good taste. Where he had expected posters galore to be decorating his walls, all Ken saw were three small bulletin boards; one with pictures of him (only a few had any of his family members in it); one had pictures of him with the other Digidestined (this was the smallest board with the least amount of pictures); and one had pictures of him with Ken. This board was the most crowded, Ken was surprised to notice. He was oddly pleased by this display.

A set of bookshelves over in the corner of the bedroom caught Ken's eyes. Carefully, he knelt down to read the titles. There were some impressive ones in his collection, especially considering his age: Pride and Prejudice, Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, and many others that Ken recognized, having read them himself at one time or another. This greatly surprised the bluenette and caused him to pause and wonder what else Daisuke kept hidden from the rest of the world. Ken knew that Daisuke was insightful and intelligent, although he didn't show in front of the others, but Ken hadn't realized just how deep that intelligence went until now. He obviously kept his talent and potential hidden, but why? What reason could the Digidestined leader possibly have to hide something as wonderful as this? Ken filed the new information away in his mind for later pondering.

In the meantime, his wandering eyes had discovered something else interesting. It appeared to be a sketchbook of some sort. Opening it, Ken saw the most beautiful and realistic portrayals he had ever seen outside of a museum. The drawings were intricately detailed, with a small description of each sketch at the bottom. He saw the other Digidestined, as well as their Digimon. He saw Daisuke's own partner in all his forms; Chibimon, Veemon, Flamedramon, Raidramon, Ex-Veemon, Paildramon, Imperialdramon, and Imperialdramon fighter mode. Lastly, he saw drawings of himself, both alone and with his Digimon partner Wormmon. There were at least a dozen of these, and Ken once again felt an odd sense of pleasure at Daisuke's apparent interest in him. Perhaps there was hope for him after all. Ken realized with a start that there wasn't a single sketch of any of his family members. One more piece of the puzzle that was Daisuke, Ken mused. He'd ponder it later, when he was alone.

Hearing the front door open, Ken quickly set the sketchpad back in its place and sat on the bed, waiting for Daisuke.

Kagome: Well, what do you think? Let me know in reviews, please! I accept nice

reviews, flames, and constructive criticism.

Raven: Yeah, but she prefers nice reviews over the other two.

Kagome: Shh! They know that already!

Raven: Then why did you tell them you accepted flames? *looks confused*

Kagome: Because I'm cold and I'm planning on building a bonfire with all flames.

Raven: Ah, okay, gotcha. Anyhow, since she hasn't said it yet, I'm her muse.

Kagome: Yeah, and you'd better do your job right this time! *glares*

Raven: *gulps* Erm…yeah, yeah, I will, I promise. Oh, and one more thing. This is

her very first Digific, so be honest and let her know how she did so she can make

changes for her next one, okay? Thanks!
