Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ A Perfect Picture ❯ Loneliness ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter Two: Loneliness
Daisuke trudged slowly towards his apartment. He wouldn't call it home, not ever. He didn't have a home; no home, no family, no friends…Well, excluding Veemon, of course. And maybe Ken.
Ah, Ken. Just the thought of the tall, pale bluenette raised Daisuke's spirits. He had first met the boy genius in the Digital World, trying to take over, using Digimon as his toys. Daisuke, along with the other Digidestined, had eventually convinced the arrogant Kaiser that he was hurting living creatures and that the Digital World was not a game. Now Ken was one of them…one of the Digidestined children.
"Unlike me," thought Daisuke darkly. True, he was one of the team, but nobody ever made him feel welcome. He was always being pushed to the side despite being their leader, even by Hikari. He knew the others saw him as immature and loud and annoying, but he didn't try to be. All he wanted was for the others to accept him, for him in fit in somewhere-ANYWHERE. Ken was the only one to accept him for what he was. The former Kaiser had his own dark side and knew the meaning of loneliness. Sure, being a boy genius may have resulted in him being constantly surrounded by adoring fans and excited news personnel; but he still understood the loneliness better than any of the other Digidestined. Indeed, although Ken wouldn't admit it, the arrogance that he wrapped himself in was nothing but a mask to cover up his loneliness…a mask that only Daisuke had had the privilege of penetrating.
"Although he still doesn't know loneliness like I do," thought Daisuke wryly. A loneliness so intense that sometimes the brunette thought he'd go mad from it. His parents didn't care what happened to him; they were never around. Daisuke wasn't even sure they knew he was around unless they needed someone to yell at. The left food in the fridge, he ate it; they paid bills, and he lived under a roof; his sister spent all her time out of the house with friends, and Daisuke stayed closeted in his room. He had virtually no social life, in school or out of it. Not even the other Digidestined spoke to him outside of the Digital World. Nobody cared, so after a while, he didn't either. This was a dangerous path to travel, and Daisuke knew it, but for some reason he just couldn't make himself care anymore.
He had reached the door to his apartment. Sighing, he got out his key and unlocked the door, letting himself in. He stopped briefly by the kitchen to confirm what he already knew; his parents weren't home and wouldn't be back until long after had retired for the night, and his older sister Jun was out with her friends on a camping trip and wouldn't return for another three days. He rolled hi eyes, not surprised in the least, and headed for his bedroom. He was so deeply entrenched in though that he didn't even notice the other occupant in the room. He tossed his backpack into a corner of the room and flopped down on his bed, sprawling out and staring aimlessly at the ceiling.
Kagome: Okay, Part Two is done!
Raven: Yeah! This is just background. There's some Kensuke/Daiken in the next
chapter though, I promise! Yum!
Kagome: Yep. My muse is cooperating nicely now, so I'll make sure to put in some of
the fun stuff next chapter, okay?
Raven: So, review please! Let us know what you think.
