Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ A Perfect Picture ❯ Confessions ( Chapter 3 )
Chapter Three: Confessions
A sudden sound startled the pondering brunette, and he sat up abruptly, hitting his elbow on his bedpost in the process. Cursing, he narrowed his eyes, seeking for whoever had so rudely interrupted his deep thought.
"Is that any way to greet someone who has come over to your house to tutor you?" asked Ken, smirking at Daisuke's antics. "Not to mention that you invited me over here, so you should've known I was here." He twisted the knife in a little further, stating, "Since you decided to take your own sweet time getting back here, I took the liberty of exploring your room a bit. I must admit I made some very interesting discoveries." He smirked again, watching as Daisuke's face turned a brilliant shade of red. "Wh-w-what discoveries?" he choked out, blushing furiously.
"Just a few sketches, nothing much. Although you really shouldn't leave things like that out if you don't want other people to see them," Ken advised. He was shocked when he heard Daisuke's reply. "Nobody ever comes in here besides me and Chibimon," he replied easily, recovering rather quickly from his embarrassment. "My parents aren't home enough to go snooping around my room, and wouldn't even if they could. My sister is too obsessed over boys to take time to pay attention to her little brother. I don't have any friends to invite over, and the Digidestined just e-mail me when they're going to the Digital World, not even bothering to ask if I'm free or not."
Daisuke's voice was bitter, like broken glass. It hurt Ken just to hear it, and he winced in sympathy. The brunette obviously misinterpreted this, because he stiffened and continued, "Not that you want to hear all my life's problems. You just came over because I wouldn't leave you alone until you agreed to tutor me, and you're just too kind to back out of an obligation like me." Despite all his efforts to avoid it, his voice cracked and tears welled in his eyes. He turned away in an attempt to avoid more humiliation in front of the one person he admired and truly wanted for a friend.
"Is that really what you think, Dai?" Ken asked, wondering why he felt so hurt. "That I just come here out of pity? That I consider you nothing more than a bother, an obligation, a duty?" Daisuke just nodded, still turned away from him. Ken sighed, hoping that he wasn't about to blow his carefully hidden façade. "Dai, look at me. Look at me," he repeated, waiting patiently until the brunette turned around and looked him in the eyes. "Now, I want you to listen, and listen closely, understand?" He spoke slowly, watching the reaction of the boy sitting across from him. When Daisuke nodded again, he continued. "I do not consider you an obligation or a burden. You are the closest friend I have ever had. I come over to help you because I want to, because I appreciate you, unlike the others that you call your friends. I don't understand how anyone could not want to be around you. You are a smart, caring, lovable boy, and I don't know how anyone could miss that in you. I love you for you, Dai-chan!" Ken stopped, aghast at the possibly disastrous statement he had just made, wildly praying that Daisuke had missed that last sentence, especially the -chan he had attached to the end of the boy's name.
His wishing was in vain though. The tanned boy across from him just stared blankly for a few moments-moments that to Ken seemed like hours, then blinked slowly before looking straight at the bluenette. "Did….did you…mean that?" Daisuke asked him, staring intently. "Did you mean it when you said you….you…loved…me?" he pressed. Now it was Ken's turn to face away from the brunette as he replied. "That's what I said, isn't it?" he demanded harshly.
Silence. He stayed that way until he became aware of a presence right in front of him. Slowly he turned around to find Daisuke's eyes only inches from his own, his breath tickling across Ken's lips. Dai just stared at him for a few minutes, then slowly he leaned forward, capturing Ken's mouth in his own. It was a hesitant kiss, neither boy knowing exactly what they were doing. Without being aware of it, Ken wrapped his arms around the shorter boy's neck, tangling one hand in his hair. "Mmhmm," he murmured, enjoying the feeling of the other boy's lips on his, his arms around Ken's slim waist. When the two boys came up for air, they just stared at each other, panting. Ken found himself raising a hand to his lips, where the feeling of Daisuke's touch still lingered. He almost laughed when he saw Daisuke mimicking the action.
"Now do you believe me, Dai-chan?" he asked the bronze boy in front of him. Daisuke nodded, then replied, "I've been wanting to do that for so long, Ken-chan, but I just couldn't. You're the only friend I've really got, and I didn't want to ruin that friendship by attempting to force you into a relationship you weren't ready for. I don't want to be left alone again!" He declared this last with such force that Ken was once again taken aback. He recovered quickly, and mentioned his observations from earlier concerning the lack of family in both his photos and his sketchbook. "Yeah, well," Daisuke began awkwardly, "I can't really do any of my family because they're never around for me to sketch accurately and we don't do many activities together as a family, so I don't have many pictures with them in it. Not that they don't love me or spend any time with me," he added hastily, "it's just that they're always busy and so don't have time for me."
"Then they should make time," stated Ken firmly, in a tone that defied rebuttal. Then he smiled at Daisuke. "Now, are we going to study, or do you want to play a one-on-one game of soccer first?" Daisuke brightened up immediately at the suggestion, grabbed his soccer ball, and collected Chibimon from the kitchen, where he was munching on some snacks. The two boys then headed for Ken's house to collect his partner Minomon. As they walked, they kept close to each other, both lost in their own thoughts, but still occasionally, and completely unconsciously, brushing up against each other.
