All you wanted…

Chapter 10: All you wanted

Saturday……..9:24 am.

Takeru groaned loudly as sat up from bed. He normally would have taken this opportunity, (as it was the weekend) to sleep until the PM stages of the day, but he was constantly being awaken by the annoying sting of his injured hand. He looked over at the side of his bed to see his partner digimon still sound asleep and envied him silently.

He stretched briefly and let out a huge yawn that sounded more of a roar than anything else. He climbed idly out of bed and trudged his tired feet to the kitchen. He didn't get much sleep that night as his brother and Sora didn't leave until late. And, even after they had left, he had trouble sleeping thanks to the pain in his hand.

Great thinking punching that wall champ. He thought bitterly. This could have all been avoided and he would still be sound asleep in his bed for another good three hours or so.

He opened one of his top cupboards and pulled out a box of cereal. He then opened the fridge and pulled out a single carton of milk. He read the label; it would expire today. He opened the rim and took a sniff, shrugged his shoulders and set it on the table next to the cereal. He didn't care. He was about to grab a bowl from the cabinet before being interrupted by a knocking on the door.

Who the hell's awake at this hour on a Saturday?…besides me… he thought bitterly as he slugged his way to the front door. He didn't even bother to cover up or look any way decent as he answered the door with only his basketball shorts; no top, messed up hair and a sour look on his face.

"What?" he muttered dryly as he opened the door. His eyes nearly popped out of his head seeing who was at the receiving end of the door.

Hikari stood at the other side of the door with eyes just as wide as Takeru. She noticed his attire, or rather lack-there-of and her face began to flush.

"Hikari?!" Takeru exclaimed.

"Um…h-hi." Hikari gulped slowly still unable to control the blood rushing to her face.

He noticed the light rose colour staining her face and understood the lack of his appearance at that point. He looked down at himself and looked back at her. He looked like shit.

I look like shit… he thought comparing himself to the person in front of him. She was well groomed. He wasn't. She was properly clothed wearing a light grey zipper hoody, and light blue bike shorts. He was half naked wearing only a pair of basketball trunks and white socks.

"Sorry…" he mumbled and crossed his arms in an attempt to cover up.

After a second or so of silence, Hikari noticed herself staring at him for a prolonged period of time. She snapped out of her trance and quickly looked down trying to cover her face that was rapidly turning into the colour of a tomato. That's when she noticed his bandaged hand. She gasped lightly and instinctively took hold of his forearm. She raised her head to look at him.

"What happened to your hand?" She asked with genuine concern.

Takeru looked briefly at his hand. "I punched a wall…" He spoke ordinarily, "…twice." He felt stupid saying that.

"You punched a wall?" Hikari gave him a puzzled look.

"Twice." Takeru repeated slowly pulling his hand away.

"Why did you…? Did you do this because of me?" Hikari felt a pang of guilt wave across her.

Takeru didn't want to answer. Instead he decided to change the subject, "Uh, forget it. Um…hey, you wanna come inside? I was just about to make some breakfast. You eat yet?" He asked trying to act casual. He just wanted things to be normal between them again, at least.

"Uh, no…We, uh, ran out of eggs." She smiled inwardly.

"Oh, I can go and make some for you if you want…"Takeru pointed back with his thumb. He crossed his other arm around his torso in a blind attempt to cover himself.

"No, no. I'm fine." She shook her head crossing her arms.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, yeah." She nodded unable to look at him properly. She felt rather awkward doing so.

"Okay…" He nodded slowly.

Silence. An awkward silence rang in the air as the two stood still in their spot.

"Um…just wondering, but was there a reason you decided to come over?" Takeru decided to be the first to break the silence.

Hikari shot her head back up. He sounded as if she was bothering him. She didn't think this was such a good idea anymore.

"Um…well, you see…I wanted to um…" She found the words difficult to say.

"To what…" Takeru nodded slowly in anticipation, hoping to increase the pace of her words. He had a slight tug at his heart hoping that she'd say what he prayed she would.

"I just came over to…" She bit her bottom lip. What the hell do you think you're doing? Hikari screamed at herself. She looked at Takeru who seemed as if he was becoming impatient with her. She began to doubt that he would even respond the way she'd hoped. You're just going to push him back even more.

"…I can't do this…" she breathed out, shook her head and ran down the hall as fast as she could.

"Hikari!" This all happened in a blurb to Takeru. Déja vu. "Hikari!!" he called out again stepping out the door. He couldn't let her go again when he was this close. He ran back inside his apartment and into his room grabbing the first shirt he found; slipped on his shoes and bolted out the door after her.

He pumped his legs down the stairs and after reaching the bottom floor, looked around the outside.

"Hikari!" He called out again.

But she was gone…

He swore under his breathe. He wasn't going to give up this time. He drove his legs furiously, running blindly across the city in hopes to find her anywhere.

She couldn't have gone that far.

~*~*~

After nearly a half hour of circling the city, he stopped at the park. He was extremely tired having practically run a marathon the past twenty-some minutes or so. He'd circled his building, ran over to the other part of town all the way to her place. He had knocked at her door and was greeted by Taichi who regretfully informed him that she had not yet returned. He even circled her building to make sure.

He ran past the pond, the school, the tennis and basketball courts. Ran past the youth centre, park and even the random stores in town. Nothing. So, he wandered into the park he had visited earlier and set himself under the branches of the tall oak tree relishing in its shade under the bright sun. His chest heaved slightly as he retracted his knees into them and buried his head into his arms. He was beyond frustrated at this point and was just about ready to explode.

"Takeru…" a soft shaky voice murmured from above.

Takeru slowly lifted his head and squinted his eyes slightly from the suns gentle rays. A figure shadowed slightly came into view covering the rays the sun radiated. His eyes widened in surprise. It was Hikari. The glare from the sun shadowed her features, but regardless, Takeru knew it was her. He gasped and scrambled to his feet.

"Hikari…" he spoke in a gentle whisper afraid of scaring her away again. "…why did you run?"

She shook slightly; the familiar feeling of fear returning. She wanted to run again, but that had become a bad habit of hers and she knew that she couldn't keep running away from this, from him. She'd have to face him sooner or later.

"Hikari, what's going on? Why do you keep running away from me?" Takeru took a careful step forward.

"You…you can scare me sometimes, Takeru." Hikari choked out.

Takeru frowned taking back his step, "W-what?" His voice was unsteady.

"You scare me because I'm always afraid of losing you…" she slowly began to sob.

"Losing me…?" Takeru took a step forward reaching out his arm, but then stopping it briefly a few inches from her.

"That's why I ran away the first time. I didn't want to hear you say it. I didn't want you say what I knew you were going to say. I didn't want things to change." She shook her head slightly.

Takeru knew the meaning of these words. She was talking about the day before.

Why doesn't she want me to love her?

"Why don't you want me to love you?" Takeru spoke out.

"Don't." Hikari held on to the lapels of her shirt. "Please don't say that." She refused to look up at him.

"But why? How are you going to lose me like that?! I just devoted myself to you by saying those words?"

"I just wanted things to be normal again, Takeru. It was safer that way. We were still best friends." She sobbed.

"How can you say that? How are things ever going to be normal now? Hikari…you don't…love me…?" Takeru looked at her with despair.

Hikari gasped. He thinks that I don't love him? "No!" Hikari cried stepping forward, "I…I do…you have no idea how much…" Hikari whispered returning to her previous position, hugging her arms.

"Then I don't understand!" Takeru exclaimed, "If we love each other, why don't you want to be with me?!" He cried out.

"Because…! Because I know that everything's going to change drastically. What if this is all just one big misunderstanding? What if it doesn't work out?! It's going to hurt so much, Takeru, and I never want to hurt you that way!" She cried out not caring that her eyes were once again streaming with tears.

"You don't know that! Why won't you even give me a chance?" Takeru cried back.

"But that's exactly it! I don't know, and neither do you! If it doesn't work out, we might not even be friends again, and……and I could never bare that…I need you in my life." Hikari whimpered.

"I...." Takeru's eyes softened, "That won't happen!" He shook his head.

"You don't know…"

"Why do you have to look at it that way? Why are you looking only at the worst case scenario? You're not even giving this a chance, us a chance, me a chance." Takeru interrupted. "Hikari, I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you. I'd never leave you no matter what. Why do you think otherwise?"

"Because I was told that before…" she spoke in a soft whisper as the tears rolled down her eyes.

Tomoko. Takeru knew with out a doubt. He relaxed his tense muscles and softened his face.

"Hikari…"

"I was so stupid then…" she sneered bitterly remembering the past. "He said he loved me and I believed him."

Takeru's heart ached for her.

"But I know otherwise now…" She wiped a solitary tear away from her eye. "Losing him doesn't hurt as much as if I were ever to lose you…"

"Hikari…" Takeru proceeded to step forward.

"I always loved you more than him. I'm not even too sure if I really loved him anyway. Maybe that's why breaking up with him didn't really bother me." She gave away a solitude laugh. "I loved you and it scared me half to death! I didn't know how you'd react, but then something else scared me: What if you didn't love me back? What if we got together, but I was a disappointment?" She continued on.

Takeru slowly lowered his head. Why did she have to question all this the wrong way. He was starting to feel depressed. All those 'what ifs' kept chipping away at his heart. Why was he still even bothering…? But that's when that tiny revelation that had kept him going all those years jumped up at him.

Oh yeah…because I love her… he thought sweetly lifting his head back up. He knew he couldn't live without her. He could exist, but not live. Now what's a life if it's not worth living? He grinned inwardly. He'd show her she was wrong.

"What if we were all wrong for each other and we'd just end up breaking each others' hearts? What if…" But she was soon cut off.

Takeru then did something that he'd never done before. He leaped before he thought. He swiftly swooped down and cut her off with his lips.

Hikari jerked at first, eyes wide in shock. But then his kisses became more gentle and sweet making her calm and warm. She immediately became intoxicated by it and surrendered as she allowed him to indulge in her. She mindlessly wrapped her arms around his neck and lightly played with his hair.

He let everything go, everything that had been locked inside him for so long; all the frustration, all the emotion and all the love that had been eating at him particularly for days. He lightly cupped her face in his hands tracing his fingers around her jaw and neck.

For the next minute they were locked in each other, doubt that had inhabited Hikari was slowly being washed away by his sweet kisses. This kiss was full of so much love and passion, that there was no way this new feeling she had could be wrong.

Placing one last kiss on her lips, Takeru reluctantly pulled back breathing hard. He still held her face, lightly brushing her flushed cheeks with his thumbs. "Now how can you say that was wrong?" He grinned at her as she opened her eyes.

Breathing hard herself, she still couldn't help the smile that was crossing her lips. She just sighed happily and giggled lightly. She gently took hold of his hands with her own as she tilted her head a little connecting her forehead with his chin.

"I can't." She answered sweetly, looking back up into his eyes. She giggled out loud and hugged him fiercely.

"Have a little faith, Hikari…" He returned her embrace kissing the top of her head. "Have a little faith in me. I promise I'll make this work." He hugged her tighter.

She nodded through his chest, tears of happiness streaking her face. "You're all I ever wanted, Takeru." She pulled back looking him in the eye. "I'll make this work too." She smiled as she pulled him into another sweet kiss.

So how did my little story fair with the masses? I hope you all enjoyed it, because I sure enjoyed writing it.

**One more thing, I originally thought of this as a song fic, but that idea didn't really fly due to the length of this story. I did base the title of this fic with the song, so if you wanna check it out, the song's called "All you wanted" by Michelle Branch. Check it out and tell me if you think it suited the story.

Time to hibernate and make up for all that lost sleep O.o…'till next time…
