Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ An Absence of Light ❯ The Demon in Locker 345-A ( Prologue )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Notes: I'll be using the Japanese names where I can, but I will provide translations.
The Tamers: (Japanese names first, followed by US version)
Takato Matsuda / Matsuki: Guilmon's Tamer. He has a strong and basically good heart, but his emotions sometimes get the best of him.
Jenrya Lee / Henry Wong: Terriermon's Tamer. Like his partner, he is very easygoing. Or, at least, he used to be. His father was once “Tao,” one of the people responsible for the creation of Digimon.
Shuichon Lee / Suzie Wong: Lopmon's Tamer. Jenrya's little sister. Her innocent heart is full of love, and she looks to family and friends for reassurance.
Ruki Makino / Rika Nonaka: Renamon's Tamer. Largely a loner, she relies on her own strength, and only values the opinions of close friends. She can be fiercely competitive at times.
Juri / Jeri Katou: Formerly Leomon's Tamer. Once rarely seen without a smile, Juri is hesitant to trust now. She may seem weak, but her heart is resilient, if nothing else.
Alice McCoy - A mysterious girl that was once a companion to Dobermon. She has a soft voice, but her blue eyes can be cold and piercing. Her father, “Dolphin,” helped create the first versions of Digimon.
Ryo Akiyama: Monodramon's Tamer. His life is indefinitely intertwined with an undying evil, and his strong sense of justice is constantly attempting to make up for it.
Hirokazu “Kazu” Shioda: Guardromon's Tamer. Kenta and Takato are his running buddies, but he is the joker of the three. Nothing ever seems to get him down for long.
Kenta Kitagawa: MarineAngemon's Tamer. Intelligent and warmhearted, Kenta is often the butt of Kazu's jokes. The two are best friends, with Kenta occasionally injecting some realism into Kazu's daydreams.
Ken Ichijouji: Wormmon's Tamer. Like Ryo, his heart has the capacity for both great good or evil.
Masahiko Katou: Juri's young step-brother. Even though they have different mothers, he adores Juri and would do anything to see her smile again.
Some names (like Kenta) didn't change in the US version, and some (like Alice) have no Japanese translation. I'm using the Japanese names/levels of Digimon and their attacks. Most will be easily to decipher no matter which version you saw, but I will provided translations at the end of every chapter. If I ever forget, just remind me and I'll add them.
Since it really matters to some people, all the couples I intend to make use of, or hint at: Takato/Juri, Ruki/Juri, Takato/Alice, Renamon/Panjamon, Ruki/Ryo. (will update this list as necessary)
Summary: Three Tamers embrace the powers of darkness to defeat a new breed of evil. But what will keep them from turning into what they're fighting?
Long Summary: As a new DigiGod replaces Qinglongmon, the Digital World erupts into chaos, and dragon Digimon began to escape to the real world. Worried by Shuichon's uncontrollable ability to open digital fields, Takato & Alice journey to the Digital World in a desperate search for the Tamed Digimon. But the danger is far greater than they feared, and unless they are willing to make unlikely allies and forsake a once-trusted friend, their world will be lost in an overwhelming darkness…

Prologue:
In the Near Future…
Lee Shuichon pushed half her books into her locker and sighed. It had been a long day, and thankfully, it was almost over. “Asagi-sensei is so annoying sometimes! I know it's just because she cares, but-”
“Hey! Shuuuichon!”
The young girl froze as she heard the voice of foreboding, then slammed her locker shut and tried to run.
It was too late.
A large hand grabbed her wrist before she'd gotten too far. “Going somewhere, Shuuuichon?” the voice teased, accompanied by a meaty finger prodding her roughly in the back.
“Let me go, Honda!” Shuichon cried.
“What're you gonna do to make me?” Honda replied with a wicked grin. “Your `oniichan' isn't here to save you this year, Shuuuichon. All alone with no one to protect you from…well…me…”
Shuichon's lips trembled at the mention of her brother, but she forced herself not to cry. “I am not alone! My friends always protect me!”
Honda snickered. “Oh! Your `friends'…you mean the invisible people you talk to in gym class? I guess I'll have to prove to you there's no such thing.” His eyes lit up, as if he'd had a stroke of genius. “If your friends are as protective as you say they are…they'll stop me from giving you a kiss, right?”
Shuichon's eyes widened in horror, and she struggled even harder to get away. She had no idea where Honda's lips had been last, but judging by his breath on most days, it was no place pleasant.
Honda grinned and leaned in close, puckering his lips. “Gimme a kiss, Shuuuichon!”
Shuichon whimpered and backed up against the lockers, closing her eyes tightly.
“Kiss this, baka!” an angry voice shouted.
Honda's eyes snapped open to see a dark shadow with smoldering emerald eyes emerge from Shuichon's closed locker. The boy gasped and backed up quickly. “Wha…what is that?!”
“Your worst nightmare, kid…a bully tougher than you!” The shadow seemed to grow taller as it shouted, “Night of Fire!”
A pitifully small fireball flew from the shadow and smacked into Honda's forehead, singing a few hairs. In all honesty, it might've hurt a little more than a pinch.
Honda screamed bloody murder and took off running in the other direction.
The shadow resolved itself into a solid, violet creature with a white face. “You okay, Shuichon?” it asked, reaching down to pat her head protectively.
She opened her eyes and smiled. “Thanks, Impmon,” she whispered, in case someone overheard.
Impmon shrugged noncommittally. “That's what guardian demons are for, right?”
“No. That's what friends are for.” Shuichon lifted him out of her locker and kissed him on the nose.
Impmon blushed visibly. “Heh heh. You better get to gym, Shuichon.” He hopped out of her grasp and vanished back into her locker. “I'll see you after school.”
Shuichon smiled and tapped the locker in farewell. “Bai bai, Impmon! Be good!”
When she had gone, the voice in the locker snickered. “Yeah, right…”
