BEST I AM
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon, its characters, nor any products or services mentioned in this fic.
Warnings: This will be mostly Yama/Dai/Keru but there will be other pairings, maybe. This fic will contain severe kiddy angst at the beginning as well as emotional abuse. The later chapters will be fluffier; I do not like writing non happy ending fics. Also contains multiple partners, incest, nongraphic NCS. I will add any new warnings as they come up.
This fic is AU, and takes place in an American setting, Northern California I think. There will be some OOCness, and I have played around with Yama's age he is now only a year older than TK and Dai. Matt and TK's parents are still together in this fic.
A/N: I have skipped some time to advance the plot of this fic, but don't worry I'll be explaining some of what has happened as he story progresses.

Chapter 4
~Five years later~
Shintaro and Miharu were sitting in their kitchen discussing a request their sons had made the day before. Basically they wanted to attempt going to a normal high school. Both parents had balked at this request, at least at first; after several hours of discussion, and a nights sleep the two adults where attempting to come up with a compromise that they could present to their three kids.
It was not that they didn't think that their kids couldn't stand up for themselves, or that they couldn't excel in a school environment. Heck with their father home-schooling them they were probably far ahead of their contemporaries knowledge wise. And the parents weren't really all that concerned about their kids unusual relationship hindering them; after all, after the media frenzy concerning the trials, and the subsequent leeks that allowed the names and photographs of all the children involved to become widespread, everybody knew what had occurred to the kids and most of them accepted that they truly had no control over some aspects of their lives. Going out in public wasn't a problem either since Shintaro had begun taking the boys out a couple of months after they were released from the hospital. At first they had merely taken quick walks around their apartment block, but soon after he had begun going to the park with them during the middle of the day at times when it wasn't as crowded. At first the boys would only huddle around their father, but soon the sounds of other children laughing enticed the three boys to go and join in on the fun activities, this soon became a frequent activity. The boys made so much progress that Dr. Silverton asked the couple to keep records of what they tried with their sons in an effort to help the other children who where not making as much progress.
None of that was a real hindrance to their sons returning to school. No the primary complication was that despite Dr. Roth's assurances to the contrary the boys could still only go thirty minutes to an hour before they required physical contact with each other and that was only if they maintained sight of each other. Plus the boys were apt to giving frequent, unconscious PDA's which could be unsettling for other students.
The two parents had several problems to overcome in their search for a school that would be flexible enough to handle their son's unique needs and yet still provide the quality education and social interaction that their kids needed. They came up with several ideas, and as Miharu left to go finish getting ready for work Shintaro retrieved the phone book and began making calls.
~Several days later~
The family was sitting around the dinner table finishing their evening meal together. This was something they tried to do as often as possible, spending time together as a family. “Okay boys” Shintaro said to get everyone's attention, “I sure you remember your request to be allowed to begin attending high school?” Receiving three nervous but excited nods he continued “your mother and I talked about it and we decided that a regular high school just wasn't up to dealing with your unique situation.” Seeing that the boy's were about to protest he held up his hand for silence, “but I have been making calls to several of the local private schools and academies and we think that they may be flexible enough to accommodate us. So tomorrow morning we are going to leave early and begin visiting some of them to gauge how receptive they may be towards your enrolling in their classes. Therefore you need to get good nights sleep tonight and be ready to roll out early in the morning.”

The next morning saw the three boys dressed in something besides their normal shorts, jeans, and t-shirts. Today they were dressed in button-up shirts that were tucked into slacks and khakis along with ties around their necks. To put it bluntly the three boys were uncomfortable having not dressed up this much since they'd had to testify at their captures trials. Yamato was seated beside his father in the front seat of the families Chevy Tahoe, while Daisuke and Takeru were seated immediately behind them. They all became silent as their father pulled into the campus of the Mount Carmel Presbyterian High School. Yes the first place they were stopping was a Christian high school but this particular school had an excellent academic reputation plus said to be more tolerant of liberal lifestyles.
However after spending only ten minutes describing the boy's unique situation Shintaro was forced to sit back in shock as the dean of the school began to preach, yes preach, to the boys about the evils of homosexuality and the hell that awaited them if they didn't accept Christ into their heart and change their life style. Seeing that his sons were in distress over the homophobic dribble that the dean was spouting Shintaro stood up and with a great deal of restraint managed not to slug the other man in the face. “Mr. Gransmer I have tried to explain to you that my children were physically and psychologically tortured, their brain and body chemistry was altered and this symbiosis was the result; the boys *cannot* control how they are any more than you can change the weather.”
The dean adopted a sneer as he peered at the boys “with Gods help anything can be controlled” he started but was cut off as Daisuke harshly interrupted him. “Yeah well can God help you control your spiteful nature or you hate for those different than you,” with that he tugged his brothers up by the hand and with their father following he walked out the door and into the reception area. Shintaro paused at the door and turned back to face the indignant man sitting behind his desk “I have found your behavior to be reprehensible and I will make a point of mentioning it to Daniel the next time I see him.”
Dean Gransmer looked confused for a moment as he asked “Daniel who?”
Shintaro to immense pleasure in answering “why Daniel Gennai the State Superintendent of Education, after all we both graduated from UCLA and then went on to get our masters in education together. We have kept in close contact; he is very interested in the welfare of his godsons after all being unable to have kids of his own.” Shintaro let his satisfaction show on his face as he nodded to the smiling secretary who had heard the final words exchanged by the two men. Shintaro placed his hands on Takeru's and Daisuke's shoulders and lead his sons out to their vehicle.
After climbing behind the steering wheel Shintaro simply closed his eyes and took several moments to calm him self down. This happened more often than he liked to admit. Some people plainly disagreed with the way his sons were forced to live their lives. They didn't care about what kind of emotional stress they might be placing his sons under. They believed that if people weren't living by certain rules, laws, or religion then they simply could not be happy. There were simply narrow minded people out there and unfortunately his sons were the ones who had to suffer because of it. Shintaro was pulled out of his reverie by a hand on his shoulder, looking up he saw Yamato giving him a concerned look and turning around he noticed that Takeru and Daisuke were mirroring it. It was almost funny how the three boys, after having spent so much of their time together were beginning to share common traits and facial expressions. Even Daisuke who wasn't even a true blood relative was picking up on it. “It's all right boys I'm merely trying to calm my temper down after dealing with that piece of human refuse.”
Yamato gave him a small smile which relived some of his worry. “Don't worry Dad. It's sad but we've come to accept that not everybody will be sympathetic to our plight. I think it was admirable how you were able to restrain yourself from giving that man a well deserved punch.”
Shintaro turned the key in the ignition and as he was pulling out of the school parking lot the said to his three boys “well boys what do you day we skip the schools that have a pronounced religious curriculum.” The three boys made sounds of agreement as they began making their way towards their next appointment.
TBC…
A/N: If the boys language seems kind of mature that's because they've been home schooled by their father who has a masters in education. If you had that kind of personalized tutoring you'd be well educated too. So in the future expect the boy's to be slightly more educated than their peers.

Song title: Best I Am
Long, I've been running away for far too long
Afraid of what, afraid of what I know is soon to come
I may not be much of an example right now
But I can give you all of my knowledge on how
To get along in this place, right now all I can say
Is I will do the best that I can, to be a good example of man
And I know one day that you'll understand
You deserve the best that I am,
You deserve the best that I am
It's so hard, so hard to think about when I was a child
So angry at life, I blamed the world for such a long, long time
Things happen so quickly, some people just go
I needed answers to heal me,
I wanted to know how to get by
And now it's my turn to say
I will do the best that I can, to be a good example of man
I know one day that you'll understand
You deserve the best that I am,
You deserve the best that I am
This is all for you
Everything in this world, everything in my world
Everything in your world
Things won't always go right in this life there's always changes
We'll make it
And that's why I got to do the best that I can,
To be a good example of man
And I know one day that you'll understand
You deserve the best that I am
You deserve the best that I am
