Episode Seven - Lost in Translation

“Without Italics is Japanese.”
“With Italics is English.”

Daisuke walked up the stairs behind Yolie after she had locked up. He was trying to think of how he was going to explain this, that and how she would react. It all had him worried. They walked into her room, she's inherited the store after her parents retired, her brothers and sisters wanted nothing to do with it. Davis followed her in her room, Yolie shut the door.

“Now, cough it up, the whole enchilada.”

“Alright, are you sure you want to hear it all at one time?”

“Yes.”

“Alright I was offered a job as the lead member in the ATD, standing for Anti Terrorist Division. The ATD was a joint operation between Japan, England, China, and the United States. We were summoned either because of our skills or our know-how in dealing with terrorist-type situations. The job of the ATD is to Infiltrate, gather info, and annihilate terrorist cells in the before-mentioned countries.”

“Ok, who else and who ran the show?”

“Like I said, me, but I answered to Michael Ryland, call sign Red Line, country Canada. The rest were: Marshall Walker, call sign Crimson, country: United States. Jonathon Li, call sign Rage country: China. Tyson Bridges, call sign Speed, country: England. Amy Crush, call sign Ice, country: originally United States, currently a Japanese subordinate.”

“Well, I got a hell of a lot more than I expected, that's for damn sure. Well, I think I need to get some sleep.” She stood and began to leave.

“Good-night.” He said as she walked out the door, catching the lights on the way.

The next morning Daisuke awoke to the sound of a phone and someone running down the stairs. He pulled his gun from underneath his pillow and slipping in its holster, and standing up. He followed the hall to the stair and proceeded down them. Then he jumped as he heard Yolie yell his name. He jogged instead of walking, grabbing the phone when he was in distance.

“We'll be there in forty-five minutes; we're on final approach, meet us at the airstrip.”

“Alright, I'll be there.” Daisuke hung the phone up, he turned to leave, Yolie was damn near an inch from his face.

“You aren't planning on leaving without me are you?” His eyes twitched.

“I don't have a choice do I?”

“Not a one.” She said grabbing her purse.

“Get in then.” He said opening the door for her, she locked the door and followed him to his car. She sat down beside him; he put the key in the ignition and turned.

“Okay, the people you're going to meet, know me as Vega Ryen, they aren't going to know otherwise, understand?” He said, not wait for an answer before shifting into gear.

“Right.” Daisuke drove though the streets, always checking his rearview, just in case. Yolie looked strangely at the radio as a song began, with only words and a guitar. Daisuke glanced over at her for a moment then looked back at the street.

“It's Hebrew.” He said.

“What?” She asked.

“The song, it's in Hebrew.” She nodded slightly, then sat back and continued to listen.

Davis glanced to a sign before they passed, it read airstrip 3 miles. He sped up a little since he was somewhat off schedule. He pushed eject on the radio and replaced the CD with another.

“This airport we're going to, where is it?”

“It's not a real airport; it's an abandoned air-strip. And it's just up ahead, but listen stay silent, these are professionals, they'll be on edge around strangers.”

“I got it.” She turned back to look out the window. Daisuke spotted the road and slowed.

He turned onto the road, slowly taking the bumpy dirt road. It winded left and right, all the way down to a little office/tower thing. Daisuke pulled around the corner and shut off the engine. He opened his door and stood up. Yolie saw and followed. He walked up the stairs, he didn't see the plane.

`Maybe they were delayed.' He thought.

“Are they here?”

“I guess not, it doesn't look like it.” He suddenly turned a corner and a gun was to the back of his head. Neither Yolie, nor Daisuke could see the person.

“Well, well, look who it is. Mr. Vega, nice to see you.”

“Look, what do-” `Wait, I know that voice…' He suddenly realized who it was.

“Marshall.” The wielder of the gun, un-cocked it and stepped out from the shadows. “Christ! YOU SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME MARSHALL! Davis yelled in English, the man laughed.

Hey, who the hell is this?” The man asked, pointing to Yolie.

“What did he say?” Yolie asked Daisuke.

“Uh, hold on a second,” he turned to Marshall, “this is a friend of mine, she helped me out last night.” He told her. “She doesn't understand English.”

“Davis, what the hell is going on?”

“Sorry, this is Marshall Walker,” “Marshall, this is Yolie Inoue.”

“What's up?” He said to Yolie. Yolie looked to Davis.

“He said nice to meet you.” Davis told her.

“Nice to meet you too.” Yolie smiled and waved. Marshall looked over to Davis.

“She said, what's up back. So, where are the others?” He asked.

“What's wrong Davis? Don't like translating?” A voice snaked from the opposite doorway. Davis immediately recognized the voice.

Amy.” She smiled.

“Yep, it's all of us, back once again.” Daisuke lost his smile.

“As much as I love seeing ya'll, that part of my life is over.”

“I- I know, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up.” Yolie stared in confusion.

“This is so confusing.” She muttered to herself.

“You'll get used to it.” A voice spoke beside her.

“I hope no-” Her eyes widened just before she screamed.

“AHH!” She jumped. Everyone looked over. A man yielding long black hair was laughing, while Yolie was clenching her chest where her heart was beating so fast.

“Michael!” Daisuke yelled, the others were behind him. They all greeted each other, Daisuke also introduced Yolie to everyone, Amy relayed most of the translating.

“So how do ya'll expect to get out of here? My car only holds two or three.”

“We had something left in the garage, we'll head to the hotel, set up, and then you can take your friend home. Afterwards, Frank and Amy will follow you back to your place, sound good?” Michael said.

“Yeah,” “ready to go Yolie?”

“Yes.” Daisuke and Yolie led the way out, the two breaking off and heading to Daisuke's car, while Michael and the team headed to a garage next to the strip. Inside was two black, Nissan Terranos.

Daisuke pulled into the store parking lot and the two said their good-byes, Yolie making him promise to keep her filled in and also to have a welcome back party, if not just for him, but as a reunion of the Chosen children.
