Episode Eight- Drunken Slurs

“Without Italics is Japanese.”
“With Italics is English.”

The night was dark as three cars drove the highway, two black Nissan Terranos and a black Toyota Trueno. Once they finally arrived at the apartment of Daisuke Motomiya, they slowed their speed. The two Terranos broke off and the Trueno continued into the apartment garage, instead of the street parking.

Daisuke opened his door and stepped out into the garage; once he looked around he pulled his gun. After shutting the door he locked the 92' Trueno and headed for the elevator.

“Is everything set-up yet?” He asked, seemingly to himself, but a voice answered back from a small hidden device in his ear.

“Shit no, I mean we haven't even gotten out of the car.”

“Well hurry the hell up Amy. I don't want to be walking in there blind, deaf, and dumb.”

“Whatever, Ryen. Davis, whichever the hell your name is!” Davis chuckled as the doors to the elevator opened.

Once the elevator got to Daisuke's floor, he reached to his gun and unclipped the band, also triggering the safety to fire. As he walked the hall toward his apartment he kept his hand ready and near to the gun.

“Ready now?” Daisuke said.

“Yea, happy now? If someone's out here or in there we'll know.” Marshall said.

“Good.” Daisuke opened the door and slowly pushed it open, it was clear so he continued. He did the same for the guest bathroom, then the kitchen, until he cleared the whole apartment, constantly relaying his position to the others watching his back.

“This is Ice; you've got clear skies on my side.” Amy said, telling Daisuke no one was around at all.

“This is Speed, same over here.” Tyson said the same.

“Burner, it's completely clear skies out here.” Frank told him.

“Alright, then I'm fine for now, ya'll can do your searching. I don't want to get into it, unless they force me to.”

“Yes' sir.” Frank joked.

“Don't call me that.”

“Yeah, yeah.” The team departed as quickly as they came.

Daisuke could rest semi easy now, but all that running and crouching irritated his leg so he knew he wouldn't be able to walk around tomorrow without that damn cane. He press play on his stereo and grabbed the pack of cigarettes on it, both the CD playing and the cigarettes were imported. Mindless Self Indulgence was the band and Camel Turkish Royals were the cigarettes. He turned the song up louder as he opened the balcony door and pulled a cigarette from the pack. The song blasted as he lit the cigarette. The pack and lighter returned to his pocket as he leaned himself on the railing. He watched the park that his balcony overlooked, the sun had set some time ago, but this city was far from inactive. He flicked the ashes and watched as a light breeze picked them up and brushed them away. He continued watching the peace of the small park for awhile, until he finally took the last puff of his cigarette and flicked it away.

He walked back inside and closed the door on his way in; he returned the CD to the previous song and headed for the kitchen. Before he reached it a pain shot throughout his leg and it buckled. He was on the ground.

“SHIT!” His eyes were clenched shut in pain. Once the pain subsided he just went for the bedroom, limping his way there. Once he hit the bed he was immediately asleep.

The morning came all too quickly for Daisuke, his eyes opened and adjusted to the sunlit room. After laying there for another few minutes, he limped his way to the shower and got in. Later on he limped his way back to his closet and got dressed; he just grabbed some jeans and a random shirt. Amazingly his apartment was clean, he learned the meaning when he wasn't allowed to sleep in or have a bunch of stuff lying around due to his job's quick movements. He wanted to go see Kari and finish their talking. He grabbed his gun, slipping it in the holster on his back, and grabbed his cane, then headed for the door.

His money had finally been transacted, which ended in 161,704,256.65¥ equivalent to about 1.5 million dollars American. Every two years his paycheck went up a hundred thousand a year. After the bank he planned on calling Kari, and meeting somewhere, but he'd have to make sure he wasn't being tailed first.

The bank computers didn't recognize that his money was in their bank, so after a huge argument in the middle of the bank they got the managers. It was around 3 hours before it was settled and Daisuke could get his money, he decided he'd transfer it soon since this bank almost screwed him out of that much money. He eventually calmed down before he called Kari, she answered and he asked if she wanted to continue catching up. She said she couldn't for another hour; he told her he'd waste an hour and meet her at the café a few blocks from her place. She agreed and they said their good-bye. Since Davis had an hour to waste so he decided to go job hunting. He started looking around at places that seemed decent to work at. Nothing looked good so far.

Davis had to meet Kari in about 10 minutes, which it would take him a little longer than that to get there so he turned off the stretch of road he was on and headed for the café. He wanted a cigarette before he got there, since he didn't want to smoke in front of her. He opened the box of cigarettes at a stoplight. “Shit,” he said dryly. He'd run out, he looked up and looked around for the first convenience store. “Well that's just my damn luck isn't it?” He asked himself as he parked in front of the Inoue family convenience store.

“Hey Yolie.” He said to the woman standing at the counter reading, she looked up.

“Oh, hey Davis what do you need?”

“Uh, a pack of Camel Turkish Royals if you have them.”

“…Since when did you start smoking?”

“Nasty habit I picked up.”
“Well, no we don't carry them, sorry. The only imported cigarettes we have are Marlboro.”

“Then how about a pack of Rin Menthol?”

“Sure.” She rang him up and he paid her, then he bid her farewell.

He hurried out the door to his car and jumped in. The music resumed as he turned the car on, he returned his self into traffic and hurried to the café. Which, once he reached it; he immediately stopped Kari and parked. Her back was turned to him, so he decided to scare her. He limped up to her quietly then got right behind her, “boo,” he said quietly, but directly behind her. She screamed and he laughed, everyone on the corner looked over as Kari blushed.

“Davis, don't do that.” He laughed.

“The opportunity presented itself, so, I took it.” He smiled evilly. She rolled her eyes, and then she noticed something as Daisuke went to sit down.

“Davis, what happened?”

“What, the cane? Job related accident before I quit, it was doing well before but it hurt when I woke up this morning.”

“I'm sorry.”

“Its fine, it'll heal. So what've you been doing?”

“Working and raising my kid.”

“Yeah, she beautiful takes after both of you.”

“Thanks. So what about you, what've you been doing since you got back?”

“Well, this morning I fought with my bank, they said I didn't have any money when I knew for a fact I did, a lot for that matter. Then I called you, and then went job hunting. Before that I've been job hunting, I visited my sister, where I met your daughter and I also visited your brother, after that Ken met me, or rather his fist met my face. He wasn't too happy that I left and didn't tell him. Then I ran into Yolie yesterday.” He told her.

“Sure and what kind of a job are you looking for?”

“Whatever passes the time, I don't need money since I'm retired.”

“You are? But you're only like, 24.”

“Yup, but I was well paid in my old job.” A woman walked up to the two at the table.

“Can a get you anything, sir?”

”Coffee please.”

“Sure, refill ma'am?”

“Yes please.” The woman walked away as Daisuke and Kari continued their conversation.

“Anyways, if you're looking for a job, I think the school is looking for a second coach.”

“Uh, isn't that kind of invading workspace?”

“Davis, it's been 6 years since I last saw you and I didn't even get to say good-bye, so I want to see you as much as I can.” He raised an eyebrow. She blushed when she realized what she's said.

“I'm sorry.”

“No, it's okay. I understand how I left things. But I do want you to know it wasn't just you and Tk that made my decision, it was my life in general. It kind of sucked, it was going no where and I needed to get out.” She stared into his eyes.

“You're a terrible liar, you know that right?”

“Only when talking to you, my job involved lying for a living, and I was damn good at it. I don't know why, but when I'm around you I, unconsciously, don't want to lie to you.”

“Oh really? So that's why I always saw through your lies.”

“Yep.” Her face went straight.

“…”

“What?” Davis asked.

“I hate that word.”

“What, yep?” She nodded her head with that annoyed smile.

“Oh well.”

Their conversation rolled from minutes into hours, all the way until it was after dark. They had talked about everything, Davis had told Kari about all the places he'd gone to, just not why he was there, etcetera.

“Well, I guess I should be getting home.” Kari said stretching.

“Yeah, me too, hey did you drive or walk?”

“I walked; after all I only live a few blocks away.”

“Right, well-” He stopped, “hey, why don't I give you a ride?”

“Oh, that's okay; I don't want you to waste your gas.”

“I insist, besides, I haven't ever seen your apartment.” She raised an eyebrow.

He rolled his eyes, “I don't mean like that. I just wanted to see your apartment.”

“Alright, then let's go… Which one's your car?”

“That Trueno.”

“…It's a piece of shit.”

“It's rented. I needed one until my money was transferred into Yen.”

“Thank God.”

They went over to the car, after paying, and got in. Daisuke started the car and began to drive in the direction Kari said she lived. As they drove, the two continued talking.

Daisuke parked across the street once they got there. The building was huge, around 15 or 20 stories tall. The two got out of the car and headed toward the eighteenth floor. Once they reached it, he followed Kari to her apartment, which was not a short distance. They finally reached it and Kari unlocked the door. The first thing he noticed was the smell, it smelled like…well, something beautiful, he just couldn't put his finger on it. After they walked in, Kari gave him the small tour of the place.

“Wow, this place is nice.” He said as they walked back into the living room, finishing their tour.

“It gets boring after awhile.”

“I'll have to find out for myself.” Daisuke smirked.

“And just what is that supposed to mean?” She questioned, he laughed.

“I'm just picking, you mind if I go to the balcony for a cigarette?”

“You can smoke in here.”

“Well, I also wanted to check out your view.”

“Then sure, it's fine. I'll get us something to drink, Shochu okay?”

“Uh, isn't that a little strong?”

“No, not for me at least.”

“I hear a challenge in that.” Daisuke smiled evilly.

“Shochu it is then.” Daisuke walked out to the balcony and immediately pulled his cell phone. It rang once before it picked up.

“This is Ryland.”

“Hey, it's Davis.”

“Davis, what's wrong?”

“I met a friend today, they tagged her. I had to take her home to know for sure, but the same car that tailed me is sitting outside the apartments.”

“Where are you at?” Just as Daisuke was about to explain, Kari tapped on the glass of the door. Davis opened it and let her out.

“Who's that?” She asked, he said hold on.

“I'm over at Kari's, but don't worry about me mom.”

“Is she there?” Ryland asked.

“Yeah.”

“You cell has tracking right?”

“Yes ma'am.”

“Isn't that going a little far?” He asked annoyed. “Damn, it'll take us more than an hour to get there.”

“That's fine; I can make it until then without your cooking.”

“Okay, but if she tells you to leave then calls us once you do.”

“Alright, love you mom, tell dad I said hey.”

“…That's way too far you prick.”

“Hey, tell your mom I said hey.”

“Oh and Kari says hey too.”

“Yea, yea, bye.” He hung up.

“So, how's she doing?”

“Oh, I'm sure she's handling herself fine.”

“That's good, now, ready for that challenge?” She smirked. He leaned forward.

“In a heartbeat.” She handed him the glass and he took the drink gladly.

It was two hours later and they were far past drunk. Although he was drunker then drunk, he still remembered that Michael said one hour, not two. Another two passed before his cell phone finally rang. They were both laughing.

“Cello?” He slurred.

“Are you drunk?”

“Nooooooooo.”

“Yes you are, but we're here.”

“I'm sardine you have the wrong number.” He hung up. Kari busted out laughing.

“HAHA, you said I'm sardine.”

“No I didn't I said, I'm sardine.” She laughed even harder. Finally it reached about 3am and Kari remembered she had work.

“Shit, I've got work in a few hours.” She said after looking at the clock.

“Oh, well I guess I bejjer be goink.”

“In the shape you're in, hell no.”

“Well I can't stay here, you haff no crouch, I mean we're shitting on lawn cares.”

“Then sleep on the bed. I don't care, but you aren't driving.” Daisuke stopped.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, now move your ass. I've got work in the morning.” Daisuke attempted to make his way down the hall, which didn't work that well. Kari ended up helping him into bed, but not before she took away his gun. He passed out sometime between, “move your ass,” and the hall, but that's all Kari knew. She slipped in beside him and passed out; neither was really sober enough to realize that they were sleeping together.

Kari awoke to a ringing phone. She made her way over to it, still not exactly awake. Half-Asleep she grabbed the phone on the dresser.

“Hello?”

“Uh, is Davis there?” A deep voice said.

“I'm sorry, Could you say in Japanese.”

“Is Davis there?” The voice said again, but in Japanese. When she realized it wasn't her phone that she picked up her eyes went wide, she looked up and saw the burgundy hair.

“He's still asleep.” She squeaked, still wide eyed and unmoving.

“Okay, I'll call later.”

“Yeah, good idea.” She pressed end. If she hadn't have seen the clock she would have been standing there for hours. She rushed through her shower, and then remembered that she forgot to grab new clothes. “Damn,” she unlocked the bathroom door carefully, then, made a mad-dash for the closet, in her towel. Once dressed she rushed out of the room, grabbed her keys and hurried out the door.

Davis drifted in and out of sleep, but never bothered to open his eyes, he'd just roll over. Finally he decided to look over at the clock it read 12:30. He figured he'd sleep another hour since he had nothing to do and rolled over. It took about a minute before it actually hit him. His eyes shot open, only to confirm that he was not at his place. He jumped out of the bed; he couldn't recognize the place, or even what happened last night. He looked around the room, it was defiantly girly. “Did I go out drinking last night? No I wouldn't have gone home with a girl with all that's going on.” He walked out and headed toward the living room. Some pictures were on a table in the hall, once he saw them; he stopped dead in his tracks and went pale. “Did I......Oh shit…”
