Chapter 8

Foxermon plummeted head first into the vat of darkness. He wasn't sure how far he'd gone, or how far he'd have left to go, but he felt like this would be the last of him. The sheer drop itself was enough to snap his neck and render him dead.

Try as he might, the force of gravity kept him from looking up to see how small the ball of light up ahead was. He closed his eyes and tried not to think if it would be painful or not to die from being thrown from a high place. But his mind couldn't cease to imagine it as he fell in a shroud of darkness. He landed hard in a pile of something that was very mushy. His eyes were still closed, and he opened them, he found himself staring into the jaws of this huge animal. He screamed and backed up, shivering and sweating badly. When he looked again, he was looking into the mouth of a cave, with stalactites and stalagmites formed in such a way that it made it look like it was a mouth full of teeth.

His eyes were still closed, and he opened them, he found himself staring into the jaws of this huge animal.

Foxermon sighed in relief and looked at what he had landed in. It wasn't a deposit of dung, thankfully, but instead, something that looked like a cracked open circle. He crept closer, and sniffed at it. It smelled like blood and mucus. He looked down at himself, and cried out in horror, as his wails echoed in the chain of caves that were presented to him.

He had seemed to land in an egg sack. He also succeeded to breaking it open, and its contents were skewered all over the cave floor. There was a creature - or what appeared to be a creature-hanging out of the side of it. The creature was horribly deformed, and it looked like an insect mixed with a scorpion that had been twisted out of proportions. A look of horror crossed Foxermon's face. The scythes of the deformed creature glittered in some yellow light that was shining from the cave, illuminating the blood-its own blood-which was splattered on its scythes. Its jaw hung open, and a long purple tongue flopped out like a dead fish.

Foxermon would have pointed and laughed if he wasn't so paralyzed with shock and fear. His head curved back a bit, then he gathered all his strength and lifted himself to his feet, shakily. He felt like he hadn't a good meal in days, not that he wanted to eat anything. He slowly, cautiously crept over to the dead body of the creature, and inspected it.

He looked closely at its head. It had large jaws that hung out of its mouth. Its skin was stretched across its bones thinly, but he could see purple veins that stuck out of its neck and other parts. They almost seemed to have been collapsed, as they looked deflated.

It had giant scythes for front claws, as well as giant tusklike appendages that hung out of its lower jaw. It also seemed to have a dinosaur-like hood that was made of bony carapace that covered its neck and most of its body. It had appendages that contained hair and spikes that jutted out of the middle of its "hood" carapace, and hung limply at its sides. It also seemed to have small feet that were clawed, and a stubby tail. Foxermon took a deep gulp. He could obviously tell that this creature would be fond of ripping its prey to shreds with its razor-limb sickles and fangs. He wondered of its durability though, as its carapace seemed less than very armored, as he cautiously placed a paw on it. It was bony, alright, but a well aimed punch could shatter it to pieces.

He could obviously tell that this creature would be fond of ripping its prey to shreds with its razor-limb sickles and fangs.

What he feared the most, was the fangs and sickles. They were curved to perfection in shredding. He looked at the creature like he expected it to jump up and come alive like a zombie, and slice him to ribbons. But his imagination went farther. He visualized it like a velociraptor, slice, bite, slice, bite. An agonizing death that would indeed be.

A small sound was heard in a chain of catacombs to the left of the giant cave opening. He tilted his head, but his heart began to beat rapidly. He took a step back from the carcass, and looked for a place to hide.

He turned and found himself in front of a thing that looked like a blue pyramid. He saw a bunch of blue pyramids, and decided to hide behind the cluster. He scratched at the cluster, and trace amounts of it fell off and onto the ground.

The sound became louder.

Foxermon scrambled to wedge himself behind the cluster. He finally climbed up the side of the cluster and dropped down onto the other side. He couldn't see through the cluster as it was too cloudy within. He then noticed that the pyramids looked more like crystals instead of pyramids.

He found a small crack in the crystals and peered out. He saw a creature that looked like a giant wasp that was on the ground and rather flattened, with large crab-like claws, walking on spikes over to the crystals. He watched as it began to mine away at the crystals, and within moments it obtained a rather impressive size of the crystals.

He watched as the little wasp thing disappeared into the darkness.
