Chapter 24: “??????????, ????, ?????
Arigatou gozaimasu, Miyako-chan, Ichijouji-kun!”
Thank you, Miyako-chan, Ichijouji-kun!” Mimi, Koushirou, and Michael's Rescue!

“That's awful!” Mimi cried after hearing the disheartening story.

Palmon lowered her head in shame. “We couldn't defend ourselves or protect Michael.”

“Don't feel bad,” Koushirou told the two. “You tried as best as you could.”

“That may be true,” they heard a voice growl, “but they still failed!”

They all turned towards the voice, and gasped at the sight…

“Oh no, Gigadramon's back!” Tentomon direly groaned.

“I was given orders to kill all of you by my boss. He was still considering using the Digimon traitors here to experiment on, but felt that it would be too bothersome to do so. He was also tempted to spare the redhead, but decided against it since you two are more of a threat compared to the boy upstairs.” Opposite the cell was a big computer, and also a lever above. Gigadramon pulled the lever with his tail, which opened a compartment overhead. After doing so, small, black creatures entered. Both Koushirou and Mimi went pale from fright, realizing how serious this situation was.

“Those are Scarab Beetles, pretty rare in your world, but easy to create here. First they'll burrow their way underneath your human skin, and then eat the flesh inside until finding a way out.

“The boy upstairs is actually lucky compared to you. He isn't on the death list; instead, Ebemon-sama has plans for him.” After performing his deed, he flew off. He had other tasks to attend to, which included coming up with a way to recruit more followers to join the cause that his boss and his superior were fighting for.

“I hate scary looking bugs, especially ones that can kill me! Get rid of them!”

Hearing Mimi's shouts, Tentomon flew up and began to flap his wings as hard and as fast as he possibly could to generate enough energy to attack the deadly insects. “Petite Thunder!!!” he called as a zap of electricity shot from his usually concealed wings.

“Tentomon can't keep this up. We need to get out of here or stop them from getting in. We'll die if even one manages to bite us.”

“I have an idea! Palmon, use your vines to grab the lever that Gigadramon pulled.”

Palmon nodded, and did as Mimi suggested. She tried her best to reach out as far as she could, but it was showing a bit of difficulty. Tentomon flew a bit closer towards the beetles to zap them (“Go ahead, Palmon! I'll try my best to keep you covered!”), which allowed Palmon to get closer to the front of the cell. It took a few tries, but she finally managed grab the lever to stop the Scarab Beetles from entering the cell.

They were all a bit relieved that no more would get into the cell, but they still had a slight problem; the ones that were already there.

“I noticed that the locks are computerized. Maybe I could somehow tap into its system, and unlock the doors.”

A couple of the bugs had made its way past Tentomon, and Mimi and Palmon were hitting and kicking at them. “Go ahead! Anything is better than this!”

He took his computer case from off of his back, sliding out his laptop and cable. “*Shimatta,” he muttered discouragingly.

“What's wrong?”

“I can't get over there to try and open the lock. The compartment where the beetles were entering the cell is towards the front, where I need to be. I doubt that Tentomon and Palmon can continue to hold them off long enough for me to do much of anything since I don't know what I'll be encountering, or what type of system I'll be dealing with. We're literally stuck.”

Tentomon was beginning to grow fatigued as he zapped away. Noticing this, Palmon quickly pulled both the children onto the crates in the back of the cell. Mimi began to cry as the beetles were growing closer and closer to them. Koushirou seemed distraught. He had never felt so useless in all of his life. The two were so caught up in their situation, that neither noticed the activity going on outside of the cell.

Next thing all four knew, a bunch of water and electricity seemed to submerge the floor beneath them. This ended up electrocuting the remaining bugs.

“Are you two okay?” they heard a girl ask.

“It's a good thing we got here when we did,” the boy beside her stated in relief.

“Miyako-kun?”

“Hi there, Izumi-senpai.” She squinted at the girl beside him. “Is that…Mimi-sama?”

“Oh Miyako-chan, we are so glad to see you, but who is that with you?”

“Ken-kun.”

“Ichijouji-kun?” both Mimi and Koushirou responded in surprise.

Ken nodded. “We better get you out of there.”

Mimi started to climb down off of the high crate, until Palmon pulled her back. “Mimi wait! You can't go down there; there's too much electricity. Tentomon probably couldn't even handle that.”

“Oh, I wasn't even thinking. Thanks for warning me, Palmon.”

“How did they manage to do what they did, anyway?” Koushirou wondered.

Something that had gone unnoticed by the two children on the way down was a water hose. It looked to have been encased, but the glass had been broken and either Ken or Miyako had pulled it out. The huge computer where the lever was had some now broken cables and wires, hence the electricity. Miyako and Ken had taken quite a risk.

The water had stopped flowing, but the cables were still shooting off tiny, electrical sparks.

“Miyako-kun, the cells here have computerized locks. I was going to hack my way into the system to unlock the door, but I couldn't because of the beetles, now I can't because of the electricity.”

“Couldn't Miyako-han do it?”

“Yeah! Miyako-chan could use your laptop and her computer know-how to get us out of here!”

“I can fly your laptop over to her,” Tentomon offered.

“Are you sure it won't be too heavy for you to carry?”

“It'll be no problem at all,” Tentomon lied. He was still a bit tired from constantly using Petite Thunder and from being locked up since the previous day.

Koushirou carefully handed the laptop to Tentomon, and wrapped up the cable that went with it around his neck. When everything was set, he flew to the front of the cell, over the disgusting, singed mess, and handed it to Miyako, who was careful not to get too close, due to the electricity. She plugged one end of the cable into the lock, and the other into the laptop. While standing, and typing in computer codes with only one hand, she managed to unlock the door within minutes.

Ken pulled the door open, but they still couldn't get their friends out.

“Ken-kun, we have to think of something.”

“Don't worry everyone. I have a plan. Grab hold, Mimi!”

Curious as to what the plant-like Digimon had in mind, she grabbed a hold of Palmon's back. “Poison Ivy!!” she called out, as she pulled Mimi across by grabbing onto the bars of the cell. She made sure to stay as high as she possibly could, so that neither she nor Mimi would be harmed.

“Okay, you two help Mimi down now.” Palmon was grateful that Mimi was younger. If older, she never would've been able to do what she had just done.

Ken and Miyako grabbed Mimi's hands and helped her down. Mimi sighed in relief. Palmon then got Tentomon to help her to get Koushirou. There wasn't anything for her to grasp to swing back over. She held onto Tentomon, who, with a bit of difficulty, flew her back to Koushirou and got him to safety.

“Thank goodness we're out of there,” Tentomon said as he rested on the floor.

“Miyako-chan, Ichijouji-kun, how did you know where to find us?”

“A Digimon called Cyberdramon ran into both Miyako-san and me. He warned us not to come here because of his master, but our Digivices led us to you. He also warned us and told us where to go, the lowest most point of the building, since your lives were in more danger.”

“See, I told you he was a good Digimon, Mimi-san.”

“Yeah, I guess you're right,” she smiled. Her smile then faded, as something else came to mind. “We have to go and rescue Michael!”

“Michael-san? He's here in the Digital World?” Koushirou nodded to the lavender-haired girl. “That's strange, we were expecting to find Daisuke here.”

“Why would you expect to find him here?”

“I was with Daisuke before being forced back here.”

“I was with Izumi-senpai.”

“Peculiar. I wonder if there are others here.”

Before anyone could reply to Koushirou's inquiry, Miyako heard something beep. She went through her pocket to find her D-Terminal beeping.

“Sounds like you have mail, Miyako-chan.”

“I wonder who it could be. It wouldn't work earlier when trying to send out e-mail.” She read the screen, and gasped. “It's from Iori!”

“What's so wrong with that?” Ken asked.

“He's stuck here in the Digital World just like us, apparently.”

“Please, tell us of what the rest of the e-mail says.” Koushirou urgently requested.

Miyako skimmed the long, detailed e-mail, which was typical for the young boy. “He mentioned that he tried to e-mail Takeru-kun, but got an error message saying that the address didn't exist, so he tried me next. He's on his way someplace, but isn't too sure where since he's just following the signal on his Digivice.

“He's resting currently, and just wanted to let someone know that he's okay since he's been gone for so long. He mentioned that he wanted me to do something `quite dishonorable' and `lie' to his family.”

Ken blinked in stupidity. “Iori-kun, lie?”

“He wants me to let his family know that both he and his friend, `Eiji-san', are okay and that she's with him. She was forced to the Digital World too, and he ended up separated from her.”

“Wait…she?” Mimi asked in surprise. “His friend is a girl named `Eiji'?”

“That is a rather strange name,” Koushirou agreed, while nodding slowly.

“Who would name a girl something so-so masculine!!”

Miyako shrugged to Mimi. “Well, Iori has the name written in Katakana, so maybe it doesn't have a meaning, like it would if written in Kanji or Hiragana.” After the brief explanation, she continued on with the message. “Hmm, he also said something about a Digimon called Nohemon being after him.”

Tentomon's pupil-less eyes seemed to widen after hearing the name, while Palmon shook. “Oh no!”

“What's wrong, Tentomon?” Ken asked.

“That's the Digimon that was after Michael after I pulled him into Tentomon's tree house!”

“Palmon, he said something about a `Kendo Boy'! He was talking about Iori-han!”

“Oh, I hope he's safe and can stay safe.”

“Calm down, Palmon. I'm sure he is,” Mimi assured her partner. `I hope nothing's happened either.'

“Where is he? What area was he in?” Palmon asked.

“Some snowy area.”

“I wonder if Iori-han met up with Gomamon and Betamon.”

“Well, he was in some kind of snow village, which was attacked by a BlueMeramon. He ended up meeting up with Gomamon and Michael's Betamon. He also ran into Armadimon, who just happened to be there.

“To fight the BlueMeramon, he said that Armadimon armor evolved to Digmon, and then evolved again to another form.”

“While in his armored form?”

She nodded slightly to Tentomon as she continued. “The middle of his chest began to glow in the crest shapes of Knowledge and Sincerity (Reliability), which formed together into one shape, which he couldn't make out, and then the process of evolution began. Digmon super evolved to MegaSeadramon!”

“MegaSeadramon?! How can something bug like evolve to a giant sea dragon?”

“Good question, Mimi-sama. According to Iori, he didn't understand it either, but they did end up saving the village, and Nohemon took off. For the journey they're on now, they're being very cautious, just in case they run into Nohemon again. He's more concerned over his friend, though, since Nohemon is after her too. `I'll explain more of this later. Just please get this message to Koushirou-san. Maybe he can figure out a way to get me back home along with your help, Miyako-san'.”

“That's going to be a bit of a problem seeing as how I'm already here.”

“I'll send him a reply later. Anyway, so oneesama and Michael-san are here in the Digital World; Ken-kun and Daisuke were brought back; Izumi-senpai and I were brought here. We now know that Iori is here, so do you think that maybe Lola, or Yuri, or...”

“…Chichos (Rosa), or Lou, or Maria, or Stephen or any of the other children are here in the Digital World?” Ken finished up. Miyako nodded.

“But Miyako-chan, why would Russian or Mexican or American Chosen Children be brought back to this part of the Digital World? For this section, everything is Japanese language wise.”

“By mistake maybe?” Koushirou queried with uncertainty while rubbing his chin. “Your friend is American and he was brought back. You're native to Japan and also became a Chosen Child while residing in Japan. So, whatever it was that brought you back, brought him back along with you.

“Meihui-san isn't even a Chosen Child, not that I'm aware of, and she was brought here because she was holding onto me. I'm just wondering now if Sora-san, Taichi-san, Yamato-san, Jou-san, Takeru-kun, or Hikari-san is here in the Digital World like we are.”

“If they are, they're probably fine. We have to get Michael out of here, and then we can worry about the others.”

“Mimi-sama, Izumi-senpai, where did Cyberdramon say Michael-san was?”

“I remember how to get there. We can take the same route that Cyberdramon took Mimi-san and me on.”

Taking the scenic route back to Michael's was pretty simple for Koushirou, especially with Mimi's help who also remembered most of the way. Fortunately, they didn't run into any trouble and went through the door, which led them across the metal-like bridge to Michael's cell. The pale boy was awake now, but seemed a bit shaken from his experience, as well as confused by it.

“Michael,” Mimi whispered.

“Mimi, what's going---”

“Be quiet, or else we'll be heard,” Miyako hissed. She handed Koushirou his laptop. “We'll have you out in no time, if this lock is the same as the one downstairs.”

Koushirou plugged the cable into the lock and took a seat on the floor. He typed in the same code that Miyako had earlier. “Uh-oh...”

Ken looked over his shoulder. “What's wrong?”

“I'm not sure I can figure this out.”

Miyako looked over his other shoulder.

“Well, Miyako-han?”

“He's right. According to the program used on the locks of this particular cell, it'll trigger an alarm. We have to disarm the alarm without giving ourselves away.”

“Hmm, I see what you mean,” Ken nodded slowly. “Anyone could be monitoring the network and without Cyberdramon to protect us, who knows what could happen.”

“I'll get right on it.” Koushirou went back to typing in various computer codes and commands.

“Mimi, I want you to forget about me. I want you and the others to get out of here and save yourselves.”

“We are not leaving you Michael! We don't abandon our friends!”

“No, I mean it!” He grabbed her small hands through the bars, and held them within his. “You're too cute to die. I could never forgive myself if something was to ever happen to you.”

Usually absorbed in his work whenever on the computer, Koushirou couldn't help but get a bit distracted by Michael's facade. He rolled his eyes obliviously before going back to it. He felt a bit bothered by Michael's cheesy words to Mimi, although, he had no idea why it would in the first place.

“I overheard that weird, metal big-brained Digimon talking and he's planning on killing all of the Digidestined children he comes across, `cept for one, but I didn't catch which one. The ones they fear the most, are the ones who have crests or have had crests. Since I've never had one, they're sparing me and planning on using me for other things. I have no idea what that is yet, though.”

“So that's why they came after Koushirou and me first.”

“They went after you?”

“Yeah, but Miyako-san and I found them, and let them out.”

“Hey everyone, I think I got it! I'm pretty sure I tricked the system. Just keep your fingers crossed.” Everyone seemed to hold their breaths as Koushirou pushed the enter key. Everyone breathed out when they didn't hear anything aside from the lock beeping.

Mimi pulled the door open and tackled Michael, hugging him tightly. “Oh Michael, I was so worried about you!”

“I was worried about you too, but you all are in danger. You and your friend, Koushirou, especially since you two once possessed crests. As for Ichijouji, I'm not sure that weird metal Digimon even knows of his possessing one like you two.”

“Hmm, I knew something wasn't quite right.”

“Oh no, not again! It's Gigadramon!” Tentomon shouted out.

“Just as I figured, you somehow managed to escape.”

“How did you discover us?” Ken asked.

“When hacking into the network, seems you didn't think that you may trip silent alarms. I guess this means we won't be making him a slave for our boss. Since he knows too much, he'll more than likely be killed along with the rest of you all.”

“Run!!!”

Not needing to be told twice by the plant-Digimon, the kids ran towards the other end of the bridge, but Gigadramon blasted it. “You children need to give up now.”

They tried to run past Gigadramon, but to their surprise, he didn't even try to attack them. He seemed a bit satisfied. When exiting, they ended up lost, and in a room that they'd never been in before.

“W-where are we?” Mimi panted.

“The ends of your lives,” they heard Gigadramon say from behind them. “They are here, Master!”

“You have done well, Gigadramon,” a robotic voice spoke up.

A Digimon slithered out with arms that resembled tentacles; Gigadramon obediently joined him by his side. Koushirou gaped, as his heart fell in fear… “No, it couldn't be...”

Author's Note

Note 1: Shimatta (????) pretty much means “damn it” or some equivalent of it. In this sense, I'm using it as pretty much meaning, “darn” since Koushirou is the one using the term. ^^
