Well Takuya makes his final appearance in this chapter so make the most of it ;) and there's an intense scene at the end with Ryo and Rika… what with the attacking and strangling and slight Ryouki hints ^_^;; Ah, but Ryo/Rika isn't gonna be the couple I'm going to be concentrating on…Hehehehehe! *lol* Me and my shipping, honestly…

DIGIMON: The Pure Darkness

LAST EPISODE:

JUNPEI - In an effort to cheer Kouji up we all took him to the college winter festival which is held every year, but this festival turned into a battle ground when the darkness, which had possessed yet another one of the students bodies, attacked which caused Ken to accidentally break his digivice. Ken spirit fused to HueStingmon but soon found something wrong...he could not control his actions and even with the others trying to help HueStingmon gave a fatal blow to the darkness and the body of the man it had possessed killing the man instantly... feeling guilty of his actions Ken then ran away with the other's in hot pursuit... all except Kouji who had his own little experience when the darkness tried to posses him...but something stopped it...

...but what?

Episode Nine: - "The Darkness Will Play...."

"Kouji..."

Kouji opened his eyes slowly as he heard his name being called from far away. He then squinted as he realized he was surrounded by pure light, which almost blinded him, but soon his eyes got used to it and he saw two dark figures in the distance.

"Who...who's there...?" he asked as he tried to make out their faces. The figures slowly walked towards him and soon he made them out, it was takuya and August.

"Bu...but it can't be..." he said.

"Kouji..." Takuya said to him as both he and August stopped walking. "...you mustn't let this darkness get the best of you, your friends need your help, whether you know they do or not. They see you as their leader...Kouji..." Takuya then gave Kouji a silly lop sided grin. "...I'm kinda jealous actually, your making a better leader than me..."

Kouji gave Takuya a warm smile and laughed a little at his friend, then he turned to August as she spoke.

"Kouji... the light you hold inside you is the key to defeat this thing...your stronger than you think you are... the light is what the darkness is afraid of and if you can use this factor to your advantage then you all stand a chance..." August then looked at him thoughtfully as her eyes sparkled in the light around them. "...and I just want to say thankyou for being my friend Kouji... you made my last months memorable..."

Kouji just blushed and scratched his head nervously. "Y...your welcome..."

"And don't worry..." takuya added on winking while giving Kouji a thumbs up. "...I'll look after her"

"I'm sure you will" Kouji replied. The Takuya took off his goggles and held them out to Kouji.

"Remember how I gave you my goggles before I died..." he said. "...they're to symbolize that you are now the leader... you can guide the others through your courage and kindness... we know you and the others can do this Kouji...just believe in them and yourself..."

Kouji just took the goggles out of Takuya's hands and nodded confidently at him. "I will!"

With that Takuya and August began to fade away along with the light around them. Kouji was left in the darkness before he faded away too.

****************************

"Huh...?"

Kouji opened his eyes to see the familiar ceiling of his room. He blinked a few times to get his eyes in focus then glanced around the room. Everything seemed so peaceful, so calm...

Kouji sat up slowly, every part of him aching; he then sat there as he went deep into thought.

"That was one weird dream...," he thought to himself. "...but ... was it a dream?"

Kouji then realized he was holding Takuya's goggles in his right hand. They had been originally on his bedside cabinet. Kouji figured he must of grabbed them in his sleep... but part of him really believed Takuya and August had contacted him, in an effort to boost his confidence... which they had done perfectly.

Once again kouji found the line the darkness had said to him when it had possessed Kouichi flying around his head...

"I don't know who you are or why you have this affect on me..."

"I understand now..." Kouji said to himself as he gripped takuya's goggles hard. His thoughts then went to what he remembered before he passed out...of the darkness trying to posses him and the bright flash of light. "...the darkness is wary around me because of all the light energy I have inside me... the light energy that saved me from becoming possessed by that thing..." Gradually a small smirk grew on kouji's face. "I can defiantly use this to my advantage... thankyou Takuya...August..."

With that he jumped out of bed and walked over to one of the draws. After opening it he pulled out his bandana, which he hadn't worn for years...but he had still kept it. With that he tied it around his head then placed takuya's goggles over them. He then looked in the mirror and lifted one eyebrow.

"Why the digi-destined leaders have to wear goggles on their head is beyond me..." he said to himself. He then smiled. "...but I guess they look pretty nifty"

With that he headed toward his bedroom door.

As he walked through the door he was met by the eyes of Junpei...and two people he didn't even know, then he remembered that he had seen them with the others when he ran past them while he was chasing the darkness and Huestingmon.

"Well sleeping beauty is finally awake..." Junpei joked as he greeted his friend; he then noticed the goggles on Kouji's head. "Erm...why are you wearing takuya's goggles?"

"Lets say I had a down to earth chat with him and August..." Kouji replied giving Junpei a cheesy smile as the boy just stood looking confused.

"But...they're...huh?"

"Never mind..." Kouji told him, he then turned towards the two in the dorm room he didn't know. "Who are they?"

"Tamer friends of Rika" Junpei replied. "I was with them when you were found unconscious so they helped me bring you here... and I gave them the up to date news on the darkness and the spirit fusion thing..."

With that the two boys stood up to greet Kouji.

"Hi I'm Takato and this is Henry..." Takato said. "...hopefully were gonna try and help you against this darkness thing... we've already hacked into all the security cameras through Henry's laptop so we have a full view of what's going on around campus..."

"Well that's good, lets see it" kouji replied as he walked over to Henry who was by the laptop at the kitchen table. He looked over Henry's shoulder to see the many small screens on it, after a few moments he spotted something on one of the screens so he pointed to it.

"What's that there...?"

Henry clicked to enlarge the screen and they all saw some strange dark mass hovering over the fountain in the courtyard.

"Strange..." Henry murmured. "That wasn't there a second ago..."

Suddenly the mass expanded a few feet inside making the four boys gasp in shock.

"It just grew..." takato said. "Ugh! It kinda reminds me of the D-reaper..."

"The D-Reaper..." Kouji repeated. He remembered seeing that thing on the news some years ago now, a large red mass which engulfed almost the whole of the city of Shinjuku and Kouji agreed this was very similar...instead it was the darkness engulfing their college campus.

"Keep an eye on it" Kouji told Henry who just nodded in response. Kouji pulled himself away from the table and turned to junpei. "Lets hope the others return soon..."

***********************************

"Ken!"

"Ken!"

"KEN!!!"

Ken was sat beside a large tree trunk as he heard his friends calling for him, but he didn't respond he just silently stared at his Dark Green Advanced D-Scanner.

"Ken, your friends are calling for you..." Wormmon told his partner but all Ken did was sigh.

"They're better off without me..."

"No they're not!" Wormmon snapped back. "Look I'm as responsible for the death of that man as you, but we both know we couldn't help it... something was wrong with the digivice..."

"But we still killed him" Ken replied.

"Ken there you are!" came a sweet voice coming from beside him, which could only belong to Kari. Ken slowly looked up to where his friends were running up to him but then turned away from them again not baring to look at them.

"Ken..." kari said to him softly as she knelt beside him. "...Ken, please look at me..."

Ken's only response was to look further away from Kari making her just pout with disappointment, so Ryo stepped forward.

"Let me try..." with that kari stood back and Ryo knelt beside him. "Ken... do you...remember me...?"

The others looked a little confused as the exchanged glances, then Rika stepped forward to speak.

"You two...know each other...?"

Ryo looked back at Rika and realized this was going to be a long explanation.

"Before... I was a tamer I was a digi-destined... I travelled with Ken when he was only young... I must of been about 10 or 11 at the time. We were like a team, a great team, just me, him, wormmon and my partner Veemon... then there was the day millenniumon came and Ken saved me from it... the rest is pretty fuzzy but the next thing I remember was being in another digital world dimension and becoming Cyberdramon's tamer..." Ryo gave his friends a small smile. "I'm the only known tamer or digi-destined who can travel to and from all the different digital dimensions..."

"Woah! Confusing" Kouichi said.

"Yeah I know... but it's nice to see little Ken again..." With that ryo turned to Ken. "Right buddy..."

After hearing Ryo explain their past together Ken looked up at him.

"R...Ryo..." he stuttered out. Ryo just nodded.

"Come on..." he said to his friend as he held out his hand. "...lets go back"

Eventually Ken grabbed hold of Ryo's hand and he helped him up off the floor. Together the small group walked back to the college grounds.

"Okay why is there a huge mass of darkness over the fountain in the courtyard...?" Rika asked in an obnoxious way as they all walked into Kouji's dorm room... she then noticed the goggles on Kouji's head and sneered at him. "Stupid Goggle head!"

Kouji lifted one eyebrow at rika's unprovoked name calling but decided to ignore it and explain the situation.

"We don't know when it got there but it's been expanding in size every so often..." he explained. "...looks like the darkness is up for a total take over of the college grounds, we should all go in and have a look"

"Not me..." Ken murmured. "I'm not going to fight ever again"

With that he placed his Advanced D-Scanner on the kitchen table beside Henry's laptop and just slumped himself into the sofa. Kouji watched his friend for a while then picked up his digivice... which had a huge crack up the side of it. It was then he remembered it had fallen out of Ken's pocket when the darkness had tackled him. Ken probably went nuts as HueStingmon cos whatever causes Wormmon's spirit from being scared was broken.

"What is it?" Kari asked Kouji when she noticed him staring at Ken's advanced d-Scanner. Kouji pointed out the crack to her then explained his theory.

"Hummm... I know someone who could fix it..." she replied. "And maybe he'll be able to fix it so you can use your spirits, I know how much you want revenge on the darkness."

Kouji looked at Kari then at Ken's digivice.

"Okay..." he said. "...if we're gonna see him then we move now! There's no time to waste"

"Kouichi, are you coming...?" Kari asked, catching kouichi off guard.

"Well...erm...okay!"

Kouji nodded at his brother telling him it was okay for him to go then he turned towards rika and ryo.

"You two are the only ones left who can spirit fuse with your digimon's spirits" he told them. "Keep the darkness at bay as much as you can until we return..."

The two former tamers gave kouji a sharp nod. Kouji then grabbed his coat from behind the door and quickly whipped it around himself. The three of them then said their byes to the others before running out of the door.

"Just us then ey?" Ryo said, looking at Rika. "I kinda missed this kind of action with you Pumpkin"

With that Rika elbowed ryo in the stomach hard, enough for him to get winded and fall to his knees in pain. The others just sniggered at him while Rika just pouted angrily and turned away from him.

******************************

"SPIRIT FUSION!!!"

"DARKLADY SAKUYAMON!"

"VR - CYBERDRAMON!!!"

Both Ryo and Rika fused to their digimon forms and headed towards the dark mass growing rapidly with each passing hour but then they got to the courtyard fountain they saw a scene of pure chaos. The dark energy was so bad here that it was affecting all the people that were anywhere near it. They were all shouting abuse to each other and some were attacking each other.

Darklady sakuyamon just shook her head.

"Makes me think less of the human race..."

"But it isn't totally their fault" VR-Cyberdramon argued back. He then looked towards the darkness. "That thing is causing it"

"The lets teach it a lesson it won't forget in a hurray" Darklady Sakuyamon sneered as she flew towards the dark mass with VR - cyberbramon following.

Back in the dorm room Junpei, Takato and Henry were watching the progress of the digimon on the laptop.

"Do you think they'll be able to do anything?" Takato asked.

"I'm not sure" Henry replied. "But I'm not getting my hopes up"

"DARK SPIRIT STRIKE!!!"

"VR CLAW!"

The two digimon fired attacks at the darkness but it just wasn't working, nothing was fazing it not even their strongest attacks. Suddenly the darkness let out what seemed to be a loud roar and let out a dark blast which hit both Darklady Sakuyamon and VR-cyberdramon and knocked them both to the floor...de fusing them to their human forms.

"Well that was a success..." Rika moaned sarcastically as she attempted to pick herself up off the floor, but her attention was directed to Ryo who suddenly let out a huge yell. Stood beside him was a small group of people, the man at the front had just kicked Ryo in the ribs and now he was laying on the floor gasping for breath as he waited for the pain to pass.

"Weak!" the man sneered. "Look at them, they're weak...they don't deserve to live"

He was about to give Ryo another good kick as the others behind him cheered him on but rika, acting fast, caught his leg in mid air and used all her strength to throw him to the ground.

"Nice move" Ryo complemented Rika as he struggled to his feet.

"Oh lookie...the girly wants to play..." the man sniggered evilly as he too stood up. "Maybe we should give them a game they won't forget ey guys..."

The group behind him cheered as they ran towards Rika and Ryo. Ryo quickly jumped in front of Rika to hold the crowd back from her.

"Rika run!" he told her, but rika declined.

"I don't run!"

Suddenly Ryo's strength gave way and the group piled on top of the two of them, grabbing, scratching, pulling whatever they could.

"This is bad..." Henry remarked nervously as the group watched the scene from kouji's dorm. "...we have to do something!"

With that Junpei ran over to the door, as he did he looked back at Ken who was still slumped on the sofa, staring at the blank TV.

"Ken! Come on!" He said to him forcefully. "We have to help them"

"I'm...not going" Ken replied with an unemotional cold feel to his voice which made Junpei shudder thinking that it was coming from the same Ken he knew. Just then Takato stood up and joined Junpei by the door.

"I'll go!" he said. Junpei nodded then turned to Henry.

"Keep and eye on Ken"

With that the two boys ran out of the door.

"Ryo!" Rika screamed in pain to her friend as one of the group of people grabbed her throat and began squeezing hard but Ryo was tangled up with the rest of the group, which were piled ontop of him.

"RIKA!" he screamed, as he tried to struggled free but it was no use. He watched helplessly as Rika's life began fading away before him and he couldn't do anything to help. "RIKA! NO! LEMMIE GO YOU BASTARDS! LEMMIE GO!!!"

Suddenly he heard new screaming and yelling coming towards him. Ryo dared not to look in case it was more re-enforcements for the team, but when he finally looked up he saw Junpei and takato running towards them at full force.

Grabbing whatever they could (*Mostly large tree branches*) the two of them fought their way through the people, making sure they didn't hurt them too much, or too little. Eventually the group began backing off, realizing that killing Ryo and rika weren't important enough to get beaten up over so they all ran off.

"You okay?" Takato asked Ryo as he helped him up. Ryo nodded but his eyes were directed towards where Rika's still body lay.

"No...Rika..."

Ryo quickly went to her side to check her over but found no breath sounds.

"Damnit!" he cursed. "Your not gonna die while I'm around!"

With that he frantically began CPR on her. Takato and junpei backed off realizing all they could do was watch as Ryo attempted to save Rika's life. After trying for about a minute he wiped the sweat away, which was forming, on his forehead and once again put his mouth to her to breath in for her. As he did rika's eyes popped wide open and as soon as she saw Ryo with his lips on hers she quickly fought him back before sitting up quickly and coughing. Then she glared at Ryo.

"Never EVER put your lips anywhere NEAR mine again, do ya hear!" she snapped. Ryo sat back dumbfounded at the fact that she seemed ungrateful that he had just saved her life...but then he smiled, he knew Rika was secretly thanking him on the inside.

With that Rika stood up and walked off, leaving her confused friends behind.

"Gee, she's a jerk" Junpei grunted. "No thankyou or anything!"

Ryo just sniggered a little as he stood up.

"It's just Rika's way... right Takato?" Ryo looked at takato, who just smiled and nodded back.

With that the three of them made their way back to Kouji's dorm, they needed not only a plan against the darkness...but now a plan to avoid the violent people around it.

NEXT EPISODE -

KOUICHI - While the other guys keep their eye on the growing darkness back at the college, Kouji, Kari and I take a trip to the city to meet up with Izzy, Kari's computer nerd friend. While he attempts to fix Ken's digivice and attempts to make it so my brother can spirit evolve... we take a trip around town mostly to chill out from such a hectic few months...

...but Kari has a secret? Dare she tell me? Next time it's "Trip to the city! Kari's secret!" Keep reading, K?
