Author's Note: Digimon is copyrighted by Bandai and Toei Animation. All other characters are probably copyrighted by me. I am copyrighted by Nintendo, but that has nothing to do with the story. This fanfic is set within a completely different dimension from any of the TV shows or comics and features a lot of death, so if you're squeamish about that sort of thing, leave now. Visit my website at http://strwlf.cjb.net. 'Nuff said. Read fic now please. (P.S this story is a bit slow to start, the Digimon might not appear until at least three chapters into the story).

Chapter 3: New World Order
"He's beginning to wake up."
The blonde-haired adult slowly opened his eyes. A harsh light hit those naked eyes of his, and he squinted, lowering those eyelids. The light hurt. Soft. His head was resting on something soft and he realised it was a pillow. He was in a bed. 'Possibly a hospital bed' he added mentally, as his brain began to work again. He groaned, as he tried to prop himself.
"Whoa! Easy there!" warned a voice that he recognised somehow. "The doctor said you weren't to exert yourself."
'Okay, Paul' the blonde man told himself mentally, 'open your eyes slowly this time.' This time there was success. The light no longer hurt his naked eyes and he was able to see again. Four people were at his bedside and as he tried to remember everything up to the present time, he realised who they were. These four were the ones he had found in the padded cell back at EVA Headquarters.
"Did you do this?" he asked them. "Did you bring me here?"
"Yes," replied the one with scruffy brown hair.
"Why?" he asked the brown-haired teenager. "You should have left while you still had the chance."
"We were able to get away, weren't we?" retorted the only female in the room. "Talk about ungrateful."
"You're right, I apologise," sighed the blonde-haired man. "I guess we should start over again on a new leaf, huh?" He extended a hand out to the nearest one, whom happened to be the teenager with brown hair. "I am Lieutenant Paul Reynolds of the UN Organisation."
A frown appeared on the brown-haired teenager's face, and it was echoed on the faces of the other teenagers. This frown turned to a look of sorrow.
"Kai Matsuki," said the brown-haired teenager, as he shook Paul's hand. He introduced the others quickly.
"You say you're from the UN Organisation?" asked Takeru with a curious look on his face.
"That's right," replied Lt. Reynolds.
There was a look on Takeru's face, that was a mixture of fear, worry and angst. It was as if the kid had something important to tell Lt. Reynolds, but didn't have the nerve to do it. He glanced sideways towards the others and saw them glaring at him. How he wished he hadn't brought that subject back up.
"I'm sorry to have to break this news to you," he began almost reluctantly, "but the UN Leaders have all been assassinated."
"Assassinated?" repeated Paul. "When?"
"We only heard about a few hours ago," replied Fumiko. "Apparently it was the A.L.F did it."
For a while, they all remained silent, especially Lt. Reynolds. The blonde-haired adult sighed miserably, shaking his head. He was too late.
"I bet it wasn't the A.L.F," he muttered under his breath. He looked up and saw the puzzled expressions on the faces of those around him. "I'm sure it was EVA that did it."
"EVA?" exclaimed Kai in surprise. "How can you be so sure it was them?"
"I was in EVA Headquarters to spy for the UN Organisation," replied the Lieutenant. "When in their hangars, I stumbled across a couple of old US Fighter jets. I recognised them instantly. They were the same jets that EVA helped the UN confiscate from the A.L.F two months ago."
Cody could remember that incident. The UN had attacked an A.L.F Base and stumbled across two US fighter jets and plans of the New World Trade Centre in Malaysia. The UN was led to believe from those plans that the A.L.F had intended to fly the fighter jets straight into the twin towers of the New World Trade Centre, akin to what terrorists had done 128 years ago to the World Trade Centre at New York.
"But I thought the EVA said it dismantled those," he exclaimed.
"That's what I thought until I found them," sighed Paul. "I was careless though, and before I knew what was happening, I was captured and taken to Yamaki's labs."
Fumiko thought back to when he had been somekind of humanoid lion. Did that have something to do with Yamaki?
"Is she the one who turned you into that lion-thing?" she asked him.
"I assume so," he replied, though he couldn't be sure, as he was unconscious at the time. A thoughtful look appeared on Lt. Reynolds' face, as he began thinking. "I have this hunch that she did the same to you four as well."
Fumiko frowned.
"That's not possible!" she exclaimed. "We would have known. Hey! What do you think you're doing?" She rushed over and tried to keep him down, to prevent him from getting out of bed. "The doctor said..." she began.
"Forget what the doctor said!" interrupted Lt. Reynolds, as he pushed past her. "What I need are some clothes and to get you all to London."
"London?" exclaimed Kai. "What do we want to go there for?"
"I know a friend who lives there," came the reply. "I think he could possibly help us."

General Kaplan sighed, as he looked at the documents in front of him. Glancing out of the corner of his eye, he saw a pile of more documents in the In Tray and none in the Out Tray. Sometimes being the Leader of the EVA Organisation was not a good thing. Reaching out he pressed a button on the intercom. He heard Takenawa's voice.
"Captain Takenawa, please send Lieutenant Reisz in," he replied to her question.
"Of course, sir."
The General waited a while and then heard the door open with a click. Looking up he saw the stern facial expression of Michael Reisz on the soldier that approached him.
"You wanted to see me, Your Exellency?"
"Yes, I did, Lieutenant," replied General Kaplan, as he placed the documents in his hand down on to his desk. He rose from his chair, one that wouldn't have looked out of place in Buckingham Palace. "Do you know of the benefits that have befallen EVA with the assassination of the UN Leaders, Lieutenant?" he asked the silver-haired soldier.
The Matt look-alike began to think. What would be the best answer to give? Would it be best to give no answer at all?
"No, sir," he decided to say.
An amused smile spread across Kaplan's face.
"Now why did you say that, Yamato?" he asked, making Lt. Reisz frown. "Just that I know that you aren't really Michael Reisz, I also know that you know how the EVA Organisation has benefited from the death of the UN Leaders."
"How did you...?" began Michael, forgetting his place and common courtesy.
General Kaplan raised a hand, signalling for Reisz to be quiet.
"I have known for quite some time now, Yamato," he replied, as he picked up a folder off the desk and handed it to the Lieutenant. "Captain," he said, "Reisz, I would like you to take on this new mission for me." He watched as the newly promoted soldier took the folder from his hand. "Though I have 'offered' to take control of the UN, there are those in the Organisation that refuse to recognise me as the new Head of the UN."
"I see," began Capt. Reisz, as he checked the folder carefully. "You're speaking about the soldiers in the Milan Base, I presume." There was something in the tone of his voice that suggested he wasn't thinking about that, but about something entirely different.
"Do not worry, Reisz," chuckled General Kaplan, "only I know who you truly are. Forget about the fact that I know your true identity and just concentrate on the mission."
"Do not worry, sire, I won't fail you," said Reisz confidently.
"I know."

Ferdene Road, London, UK. The former UN Lieutenant walked down the street quietly, followed by the four teenagers he had rescued from EVA Headquarters. Already, it had been two days since the assassination of the UN Leaders and EVA had taken over. Now the two Organisations existed as one. There was no more EVA. There was now only the UN Organisation, now led by Marshal Neil Kaplan- the former Head of the EVA Organisation. Paul knew that somehow they had to defeat the new UN, but it was going to take a lot of work for that to happen.
"So, this friend of yours, he lives here?" asked Fumiko, as she looked around her. It wasn't a bad place. To their right, as they walked down the road, was a nice park. It looked like a regular suburban neighbourhood.
"That's right, Fumiko," replied Paul, as he looked at the rows of houses. Now which one was it? Number 8 or... "Ah! We're here!" he exclaimed, and walked down the path to the front door of a quaint brick house. Before he rang the doorbell, he turned round to look at the others. He felt that there was something strange about those four, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
The doorbell rang. The door opened. A man stood at the door, one that looked exactly like Shibumi from Digimon Tamers.
"Koushiro!" greeted Paul.
"Paul!" exclaimed the man at the door. "Long time no see! What brings you here?"
"I wanted to speak to you about, you know, when you worked with Dr. Yamaki," replied Paul. "It's really important, you see, she did something to us, something that I can't quite explain."
For a while, the man at the door, Koushiro, looked at Paul as if he were studying the man.
"Come in," he said, and opened the door wider, stepping aside.
"Thanks," thanked Paul, as he stepped in.

Capt. Reisz looked at the machine more carefully. Developed by Dr. Yamaki, this was the latest in military equipment. She called it a Mech, which was short for Mechanical Armour. It was just that. Imagine a huge suit of armour equipped with a huge gun and the latest in combat systems in its cockpit. That was what it was.
"These things look bulky," he commented, as he ran a gloved hand across its smooth camouflaged surface. "I doubt they'd hold out against the rebels."
"Don't worry, sir, they will," said a voice from behind him.
He turned round and saw a soldier standing before him.
"Are you Lieutenant Axelrod?" Reisz asked the soldier.
"Yes, sir," came the sharp reply from the brown-haired soldier. He turned to glanced momentarily at the soldier standing beside him, a friend of his. "And this is Lieutenant Thornton."
"It's a pleasure to work with you," stated the blue-haired soldier. He glanced momentarily at the Mechs and then at Captain Reisz. "I take it, sir, that you haven't had any experience with these Mechs?"
Reisz nodded in reply.
"That's right," he replied. He turned to look at the bulky thing. "These Mechs seem like something out of a science fiction movie. They can't possibly be useful in a battle."
"Would you allow me to give you a few pointers?" asked Lt. Thornton hepfully. "I'm all too willing to help you learn the basics of Mech piloting."
For a while, the silver-haired Captain didn't reply, as if he were too lost in thought.
"I would like that very much," he said almost emotionlessly.

Koushiro listened carefully to their accounts of what had happened at EVA Headquarters.
"So, Sora has managed to complete her DigiModification Project," he muttered under his breath. He couldn't believe that he had helped her do this, helped her try and create a perfect soldier. "I'm afraid I can't help you much," he apologised. "I left EVA before she could finish the project. However, if she completed her project as planned, you should be able to transform out of your free will. It shouldn't be too hard."
"What do you mean?" Cody asked Koushiro.
"A long time ago, there used to be a company called Toei Animation," began Koushiro calmly. "It created a cartoon series called Digimon, which was about digital monsters. It managed to create five seasons and profit from the cartoon, but after the fifth season it lost its popularity. In an attempt to revive its popularity, the company tried to create artificial life on a special computer network, in order to create a really authentic game based on the cartoons. They lost too much money on the project." He sighed, as he thought about it. Those old days. "Before World War Three, Dr. Yamaki bought up the computer network, with Toei's work. She worked on using the data in the network and tried to combine it with biological DNA to create real, live Digimon."
"Do you mean, we'll transform into these Digimon things?" Fumiko asked in horror. She didn't want to transform into some ugly digital monster. It just didn't suit her.
"That's right," replied Koushiro. He was about to say something else, when the doorbell suddenly rang. With a sigh, he got up. "I wonder who that is?" he wondered, as he walked out of the living room.
Paul turned round in his seat, and watched as his friend walked out. He had a thoughtful look on his face.
There was a loud smashing noise and they suddenly saw Koushiro fly down on to the floor.
"Professor Koushiro Shibumi," exclaimed a voice from outside, "Dr. Yamaki wants to see you."
Leaping out of his seat, Paul rushed towards his fallen friend, when someone in a black trenchcoat suddenly sailed past and punched him in the face. He fell down to the floor.
Kai and the others leapt up to their feet, as two people in black trenchcoats walked in. He saw that they were both dressed completely in black. One had blue hair and the other was a female with brunette hair, which was almost the same colour as that of Fumiko's.
"Who the Hell are you?" he exclaimed, which wasn't the best question to ask regarding the situation.
"That does not concern you, boy," sneered the female. She turned to her blue-haired partner. "Josh, get Shibumi and let's get out of here."
"I don't know who you are, but you're not taking anyone anywhere!" roared Paul, as he leapt to his feet. He flung a punch at Josh, and suddenly found his fist connecting an exoskeleton. Paul was shocked. In the time it had taken for him to throw the punch, the blue-haired assailant had transformed from a human being into some kind of humanoid insect-thing.
You would recognise it as a Stingmon, however. It chuckled menacingly, as it glared at him with bug-like red eyes.
"Is that the best you can do?" he asked, before flicking Paul away from him. "Pathetic little human. You are no match for us."
"Stop showing off and get Shibumi!" cried the female, as light green energy suddenly began to flow to the palm of her right hand.
"All right, Kari, keep your hair on!" buzzed the Stingmon angrily, as he bent down and picked up the unconscious scientist up.
A ball of light green energy had formed in the palm of her right hand and she now aimed it at Fumiko.
"Boom," she said almost emotionlessly, as the energy ball turned into an light green laser that flew through the air towards her.
Kai dived for Fumiko, pushing her out of the way, and caught the laser in his left arm. He howled out in pain, as he crashed on to the floor, clutching at his wounded arm. Wincing in pain, all he could do was feel the intense agony that the laser had caused. He looked up and the next thing he saw was the woman- that had been identified as Kari- charging up another energy sphere and aiming it towards them.
"No witnesses," chuckled Kari under her breath, before she fired a laser at Kai.
He didn't know how this was all happening. Kai didn't know how the woman was able to fire lasers without a gun of any sort, or laser cannon. He also didn't know how his clothes had ended up being torn to shreds. What he did know was that his sense of hearing was heightened, as well as his sense of smell and that he felt vaguely warmer than he imagined he would.
Fumiko made a frightened gasp that got strangled into a squeak of fear by her own fear. She wanted to back away from the inhuman things that were all around her, but she found that she was rooted to the spot.
Kai spotted his own reflection in the mirror and frowned. He was no longer human. He was like some kind of big, grey wolf. Standing on all fours, he glared at Kari and a toothy grin split his muzzle. This time, he was sure that the tables had turned.

To be continued...
