Fox of Tao
(Chapter 4)

...I had that dream again.
I was pretty sure I'd had it before...it just seemed
...Familiar.
Like I was actually conscious inside my dream. I wanted to believe I was dreaming…I really did. But...how could I tell?
I could remember every moment of the dream, from beginning to end, like someone was playing a movie and I had to watch. The bright light…I'd seen it before. Twice, the previous day. It was different, though… Gave me chills. Me legs were held in place by something... Try as I would, I couldn't even look down to see what it was. I saw something move back, then forward…then
I woke up in a cold sweat, trying to sit straight up; I smacked my head against the metal underside of my bed. "Oww!" There was a splitting pain shooting through my forehead. I looked around... for some reason, I was under my bed rather than on it. I spotted a white furry patch of fur waving at the side of the bed.
A voice rose from above me. It was soft, but sounded annoyed. "Do you have to be hurt so loudly?" The white fur vanished, and was replaced by Dynasty's head. "I am trying to rest."
I glared at her, feeling my head. To my credit, my head was hard enough to withstand the blow without bleeding. "On my bed."
She nodded. "I assume so, yes." I shook my head, and threw the pillow at her. She caught it with her teeth, and pulled it up onto the bed. "You aren't getting this back."
I lay there dumbstruck for quite a bit, before finally rolling out of the bed, and sitting up... the fox had vanished from sight. There was a mostly black outfit laid out for me on the bed... a sweater, black jeans and my toque. I put them all on quickly, noticing that the odd-looking yellow device was already clipped to his jeans.
I heard Dynasty's voice coming from somewhere...I couldn't see her, though. "We're going out."
"...But...."
"Park. And bring the cards." The voice faded at the end; she had left. I picked up the small box of cards on the corner of my dresser, and went out the door.
--
Only moments after arriving at the park, a faint `beeping' sound rang out from very close to me... I lifted the D-Arc from my jeans, and looked at it. It was making the noise, and was pointing behind me. I was about to turn around when I felt the Renamon's glove on my shoulder. "It's me, Arc."
I nodded, and turned around. "Alright, why did you bring me here?" For some reason, the device was still beeping... it was pointing in another direction, away from Renamon. There was a dot on it that I assumed represented Dynasty.
"You remember how I told you there are assassins after you."
"Of course. It's hard to forget when I'm attacked every day."
She smirked at me, and went on. "Well, pretty close to all of them reside in the Digital plane. They break through into this one to get at...well, you." She paused for a moment to see if I was following, then kept going. "Since the way they're going through is primitive, they have to come through in child form. Which is good for us."
"Um...alright." I gave her a blank look.
"Which means we can take care of them easier."
"Ohhhhhh."
Renamon rolled her eyes. "Anyway, after getting through, it usually takes a little while for them to evolve back to a more powerful form. And since these ones are going to be doing that soon, I figured we had best take them out before they can. Questions?"
I looked back down at the D-Arc...the one arrow had split into two, though they were very close. "One. How do you expect me to help?"
She looked at the device as well, then in the direction it was pointing. "Either stay out of the way or distract one of them."
I remembered the cards, and how many times I was reminded about them. "What about the cards?"
She hesitated a second, and shrugged. "I don't know, it was not my advice originally. Give one a paper cut."
I was about to say something else to her when a large blue streak shot out of the bushes at us, the fox pushing me out of the way. "No more talking!"
I backed up, looking at the D-Arc...I pointed it at the blue projectile, and a picture of a blue dragon-like creature popped up. "Veemon...?" A second picture popped up, that of a worm. The beeping had increased to a very fast pace, and I looked up to see the worm's head right next to mine.
It was breathing in, probably getting ready to attack. I picked up a thick stick from the ground, swinging it at the Wormmon; to my surprise, it connected, stunning it. "...Oww..." It dropped to the ground, getting right back up. "You'll pay for that...!"
Dynasty was faring slightly better than I was, though only doing so by dodging the Vee Headbutts. "Nice aim, blue."
The dragon growled out "Vee Headbutt!" and flew right at the Renamon again, her only ducking; Veemon went right through the tree she was standing in front of. When Dynasty got up to see how hurt it was, she only saw blue shards passing into the air.
"Wimp." She turned around to face me.
"Digivolution...activate..." I could barely hear the voice, but it was there. Wormmon started glowing blue, an egg encircling it. When it faded, a much larger bug was standing in the spot where the worm used to be.
"Stingmon!" The fox tried to lunge at it, to drive her claws into it...but she was caught in the act, and flipped off into a tree. "Hahaha!" He turned his attention to me, a purple glowing blade appearing at his wrist. "Spiking Str..."
He got that much out before being showered with diamond-shaped light shards, driving him back slightly. The fox digimon jumped over to him, only to be flipped over him again. "Agh!"
I looked back down at the D-Arc; the left side of the screen was flashing, me turning it out of curiosity; there was a slot in the side, just large enough for a card. I pulled out a Beelzemon card, and waited for an opportunity.
Dynasty was not doing very well with the bug warrior; he was standing over her, both glowing purple blades out. "Spiking....Str."
Once again, Stingmon was unable to complete the sentence, interrupted by a kick to the gut by the resilient fox.
I saw this as my golden opportunity. "Card Slash! Beelzemon Double Impact!" I slashed the card, and looked over at Dynasty.
She was not really expecting the two large pistols to appear in her paws, but she was thankful for them. "Double Impact!" She fired both pistols, blowing two gaping holes in the Stingmon. He started to evaporate into the air, much like the Veemon and Gatomon before it. Just after the attack, the pistols evaporated as well.
I put the card back in the card box, and rushed over to Dynasty. She was looking rather beaten up. "You alright?"
She nodded, rising to her feet. She leaned over on me slightly. "The pistols...how?"
I held up the D-Arc, which was enough answer for her.
