/*Have you ever found the one
You've dreamed of all your life
You'd do just about anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you*/
My heart sank as I watched Mimi drag Izzy off. I hadn't known they were an item. I guess all my secret dreams were gone now. There's no way I could compete with Mimi.
I watched stonily as she drug him off, smiling, to get a hot dog. At the stand, they had a quick argument and came back.
"Didn't have the kind I wanted," Mimi said cheerfully. Izzy looked really nervous about something, but I didn't want to talk to him right now. "Oh! Yolei, I've been meaning to ask you if you'd go shopping with me!" Mimi squealed suddenly, as though the idea had just hit her.
I didn't feel like staying at the beach, and I had some money, so I agreed.
"Why not?" I said, picking up my novel, my sketchpad, and my bag.
Half an hour later, Mimi's chauffer person pulled up to the Odaiba mall. Mimi thanked him and told him when we'd be back out.
"So what are you gonna get? Isn't your school prom next week?" Mimi asked. She knew when the prom was, she had flown to Japan just so she could go.
"Mimi, silly, you know when it is!" I exclaimed, punching her playfully on her arm. "Are you gonna buy a new dress, or what?" Mimi shrugged.
"Actually, I was thinking more about outfitting you than me," she said slyly. I groaned.
"No, don't tell me the Tachikawa personal beautifyer's gonna make me over again!" Mimi giggled and just pulled me into the nearest clothing boutique. Flipping through the racks, she yanked out a lavendar dress that faded to white near the bottom. It was sleeveless, strapless, and very, very tight at top.
"It's beautimous!" Mimi squealed, shoving it at me. I had to admit, it was pretty. The purple part matched my hair exactly. I decided I'd wear it, even though it wasn't the kind of thing I normally wore. Mimi had come all the way from America, after all
"Are you gonna get something for yourself, since we're here anyway?" I asked. "Or maybe, since you're outfitting me, I should get to outfit you!"
Mimi looked a bit apprehensive, but let me browse through the racks for a dress for her. After much feverish searching, I finally pulled out a pink velveteen dress, long and clingy. Mimi stared at it.
"I don't wear clingy clothes," she managed to get out.
"Sure you do. It's me that doesn't wear strapless, tight clothes," I said, grinning wickedly at her. Mimi sighed and took the dress from me.
We headed over to the dressing rooms to try on our dresses. Mimi was done first, and knocked on my door. I told her she could come in just as I finished putting my own dress on. I had to admit, it looked really good on me. The pink dress looked more than really good on Mimi; it looked awesome on her!
"Mimi, that dress is so pretty!" I shrieked. "You should get it! It would be an awesome dress for you to wear!" So we headed to the checkout after taking off the dresses and donning our old clothes. I was a little peeved about paying fifty dollars for a dress, but I did it anyway. I could always earn more money.
Three hours and six shopping bags (apiece) later, we finally stopped at the food court for lunch.
"Please say that shoes, jewelry, perfume, a dress, and a whole new set of makeup is all I'll need. I only have ten bucks left!" I whined, annoyed that most of my savings were gone. Mimi smiled.
"You have to buy something for your date," she informed me. "That's how proms work." I turned red.
"I don't have a date yet." I muttered. Mimi looked surprised.
"Not going with Ken?" she asked. I shook my head. "Hmm, well that is a problem, isn't it?" she mused, smiling. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get a date before Wednesday. Come on, we have to go meet the chauffer." Grabbing all six of my bags, I followed Mimi, who was skillfully weaving through the crowd of people.
By the time we got back to the Yagamis (my stuff was still there), Tai and Kari had come back too. Some of the other DigiDestined were also there.
Mimi went over to talk to Kari and Sora, and all three of them came back over and grabbed my arms.
"Hey!" I exclaimed. "Let me go!" They were dragging me upstairs to Kari's room.
"We're going to fix you up. For the prom." Kari informed me.
"The prom's not for three days!" I exclaimed. "I know we bought long lasting lipstick and all that, but it's not gonna last that long!"
"Don't be silly," said Sora. "We're going to figure out how we're going to do your makeup for the prom, that's all. We'll be doing it again Wednesday night." I groaned.
"You guys! Don't you have your own faces to make up?" I whined.
"But we can do ours, too...it won't take long to make your face up." Mimi said.
"I don't even have a date!" I exclaimed. "Isn't this all kind of moot right now?" The other girls shrugged and started in on the makeup and hair.
Ten minutes later, Mimi was handing me my new dress and ordering me to put it on, along with the lavendar sandals I bought to go with them.
"Hmm..." said Mimi, looking at me. "What do you think? Silver?" I opened my mouth to say something, but Kari and Sora replied before I could get it out.
"Definitely," they said together, so Mimi dove into the pile of bags, pulling out the one from the jewelry store.
She held up a silver and black necklace. Sora and Kari shook their heads. She held up a silver chain. Again, they shook their heads. Then, she held up a seven-pointed star on a silver chain. Sora and Kari squealed and nodded. So I put the star necklace on.
"Now for your anklet, rings, and contacts!" Mimi said, way too cheerfully.
"C-contacts?" I stammered. "You're going to make me take off my glasses?!" Sora nodded, and the other two followed suit. "I hate having contacts...I always lose them," I moaned.
Once my torturers left me alone, I looked in the mirror. I did look pretty, now if only I had a boy to go with me to the prom. I sighed and flopped on the bed, almost messing up the French braid Mimi had laboured over for ten minutes.
I knew who I wanted to go with. The only problem is, Izzy liked Mimi. Maybe if Mimi ever broke up with him...My thoughts trailed off. I sighed again and picked up my glasses, took down my hair, took off the dress, and removed the make-up. Then, I went back downstairs.
