Human Eyes, Digital Soul

Prologue: Warriors of Destiny

Author's notes: This is a rather odd story, and will probably confuse the hell out of people. Particularly those who've never really read anything about Marvel Comics' Wolverine character. Some parts of this story were inspired by the creation of Wolverine's Adamantium skeleton, as recounted in multiple issues of Marvel Comics Presents. This fic is a partial SI story, and more or less is a crossover between Digimon 02 and Digimon Tamers. But only because Black WarGreymon is involved. I'm not great at romance stories, but this is going to be a Rukato/Taruki fic. Meaning Takato and Ruki/Rika. Renamon will also probably be involved in a one-sided romance as well. This story is ultimately the result of a failed attempt to get a character into an RPG. I can't tell you everything, but I can tell you that BWG is involved. I can also tell you that some dimension-hopping is gonna happen. Also, this prologue, and bits of part one happen to hop between two worlds. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon Adventure or Digimon Tamers. They are the property of the owners and creators of the series and the studio which produced them as well as Fox Kids. I'm going to try to use the japanese name for Rika and Henry though.

Tamer Earth

Renamon was bored.
Bored out of her mind, in fact. Ruki had gone off to yet another Digimon trading card game tournament. She was fairly confident Ruki would return with the victory. After all, she was the one the humans called the Digimon Queen. She was, by her own proclamation, the best Digimon Tamer there ever was.
Unfortunately, she had not been called into battle in over two weeks. For whatever reason, the Digital Fields had stopped coming. That meant no new Digimon to battle. No new data to absorb and grow stronger from. Calumon hadn't even appeared in over a week, and Impmon had seemingly either vanished, or gotten himself into some kind of trouble that was way over his head. Renamon sincerely hoped it was the latter, as he was essentially nothing more than a nuisance at his best and a royal pain in the ass, as the humans said, at worst. So, with nothing more to do, she sat on top of the Makino home, and waited for something to happen.
She may have been better off being bored half to death, had she known what exactly was about to happen.

An Earth parallel to that of the Tamers

The work is progressing very smoothly. Was the thought of a man in his late thirties as he looked over dozens of monitors and readouts. Very smoothly indeed.
As he turned his attention towards the object of the readouts, he had to suppress an urge to crack a smile and then begin laughing like those foolish TV villains he used to watch now and again. The subject he had selected for the experiment was far more receptive to the changes he had wrought in it than he could have anticipated. His work was almost done. Once the changes in the body were complete, he could begin work on the mind. Bending it to his will. Making it the perfect soldier. Not like anything else alive. This being would have the greatest assets of any creature in existence. The perfect killing machine, that's what it would be.
"Very soon, my friend. Very soon you will bring me everything I've ever wanted, and perhaps, even the world itself. None will be able to defeat you, and you will be answerable only to me." The man grinned.
Of course, there were still a few things to be dealt with. Wiping out all but his name and meager athletic skills, adding the knowledge of the powers and skills he would soon have and how to use them.....it would be difficult, but well worth the effort.

Tamer Earth

"Well guys, I can unequivocally say, that this has to be the worst school day I've had in my life!" Takato Matsuda said, plopping himself down in a corner of the adopted home of Guilmon, his Digimon partner. Guilmon, even among Digimon, was unique, for he had been created completely out of the mind of his partner. Across from the large red and black Dinosaur type were Jenrya Lee and Terriermon, who was Lee's partner. Takato still couldn't get over how much Terriermon reminded him of a very doped up rabbit with a nail sticking out of his head.
Of Course, that's better than the deranged rabbit on steroids armed to the teeth he becomes when he digivolves into Gargomon.
Takato, and indeed all the Tamers, as they called themselves, remembered well that day when he had first digivolved. Gargomon had, to put it mildly, gone ballistic. Gunfire sprayed the entire garage that they had been in. In fact, had it not been for Renamon, it could be conceivable that Gargomon could have murdered Ruki without meaning to. For whatever reason, Gargomon had digivolved again not that long ago, but seemed to be in control. Takato really didn't want to try to figure out the reason why. He knew he'd just make himself nuts. Then again, that was just the kind of thing that usually got answered when he least expected it. Besides, he'd rather think about how cute Ruki looked than the fact that Gargomon had nearly perforated her....
GAH! Where on earth did THAT come from?! Takato blinked and shook his head a bit to clear himself out of his reverie. He didn't know why he had suddenly been thinking of Ruki, let along thinking that she was CUTE.
"Hey, Takato, you okay? You looked a bit spaced out there."
"I'm fine Lee. I guess I was just thinking to hard."
"Boy, I'll say. It looked like in another minute steam was gonna come outta your ears!" Came the reply of the little white bunny that was Terriermon.
"Wiseass." That, to say the least, got everyone's attention as they turned towards Guilmon, who blinked and looked around at his friends. "What? I heard someone say it earlier today when they walked past here!"
His friends simply stared for another minute, and then, almost so subtly you wouldn't have noticed when it started, Takato began to giggle. Terriermon followed suit, and soon they were out and out laughing. Now as anyone knows, good, friendly, kindhearted laughter is contagious. And before even half a minute had gone by, all four were laughing their heads off. Guilmon didn't get what the joke was, but his friends were happy. That in turn made him happy. While his intellect was probably barely above that of a two and a half year old at most times, his childlike innocence was what his friends found so endearing. The fact that he could also be as deadly as any digimon who hadn't been created from the mind of a fan when he wanted to didn't hurt either in gaining respect.
"So, Lee, what's the haps over by you? It's been pretty quiet. No Digital fields at all. heck, Calumon hasn't even shown up lately. You seen him?" Takato asked.
"No. And thankfully, no sign of Impmon either. Though in his case, I'd probably feel safer knowing where he is at all times."
"Word."
This time it was Terriermon getting the stares.
"Hey! It was on TV, and I hadda sit around with Shinouchi, who has this really weird obsession with rap music!"
"Ugh. Who was it who went around saying 'Rap is Crap'?" Lee asked, rhetorically. He didn't know, and didn't think anyone else did either.
"Some Gaijin wrestler named Curt Henning. I was flipping through channels one day and saw some show called WCW Monday Nitro and him and some other wrestlers put together this music video based on a song which was based on him saying it. Sometimes having a satellite dish can be a blessing and a curse." Takato said. Guilmon simply blinked in mild confusion. He had NO clue what the hell his Tamer had just said, but hey, it sounded like an explanation.
"Takato, could you please pass the bread?"

ParaEarth (Sue me, I couldn't come up with a name for it).

Computers, no matter what the reality, are both a wonder and a curse. The latter was what was plaguing the mysterious man in shadow. In trying to blank out the memory of his subject, he found that the human mind was still more powerful than any computer.
Bah! If I can't erase what I don't want, suppression will have to do.. With that thought, he went about programming his computers to surpress all but his name, and what athletic skills he had. Everything else was in place, save for the programming that would bind his warrior to his every command.
"Very soon now, my friend. You will go out into the world, and become my personal engine of destruction-"
Suddenly, klaxons began to go off. The man whipped his head around, then turned on a multitude of screens, which showed what could only be police.
"Dammit! Not now! Not when I'm so fucking close!"
He turned quickly to the computers surrounding the tube which held his greatest experiment. he couldn't let anyone take it away from him. But the only way to keep it out of the hands of the law, he would need to banish it from this dimension......
Wasting no time, despite the fact that the computers weren't entirely finished surpressing the majority of the memories of his weapon, he flipped several switches. The alarms had changed, indicating that the law enforcement officers had made it inside. He programmed his computers to open the dimensional portal, and then send his creation through it. He had no sooner done so, than the sound of hand-held battering rams assaulted his doors. He had no real clue where his weapon was going, but he could always find it later. Just as the portal closed and he had password protected his equipment before shutting it down, the doors finally gave way. The police entered, guns at the ready, and he found himself face to face with a smirking officer he knew very well.
"James "Kosmo" Barron, you are under arrest, by order of the United Nations....."

Tamer Earth

How does one measure a journey across dimensions? Does it take minutes? seconds? Hours?

Can infinity span the space of a second?

It lasts as long as it lasts, and when it is over, it is over.

He woke with a pounding headache. That was the first thing he realized. The second thing he realized, is that he had no clue at all as to where he was. Then, just as that was sinking in, he realized something else.....

"Who am I?"

*********************************************************************** ************************

"Welcome back, Ruki. I take it you won?" Renamon knew it was a question that didn't even need to be asked.
"Of course, I won! What do you take me for? The gogglehead?" Ruki was almost offended. She knew that her Digimon was simply asking out of common courtesy. She was the best, and they knew it. Of course, Renamon had often advised her that someday someone could come to challenge her claim to being the best Tamer. Of course, the Digimon Queen had scoffed at the idea. If her only competition was people weaker than Takato and his ridiculous pet Guilmon, then her title was secure. She gave a little snort of derision as she thought about the chances of Takato of all people defeating her, be it in a card battle or in a battle between Guilmon and Renamon.
If only he could battle as well as he looks.....
Ruki stopped in her tracks as that thought went through her head.
I did NOT just think that.....
Shaking her head to clear it of such absurd thoughts, she entered the house. She didn't notice Renamon's worried look at her seemingly unusual behavior. It was unlike Ruki to be distracted by anyone or anything. But it seemed to have only lasted a second, so she didn't give it any further thought. Flipping down from the roof, she followed her Tamer into the house. She just hoped that a Digital Field would spring up soon. She was going insane from the boredom of the peacefullness of the past two weeks.

She was about to regret that desire.
