Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Hybrid Theory ❯ A Night Out ( Chapter 3 )
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon.
It has been a long time since I uploaded a new chapter, mainly because I've been busy with other things. The entity, for those of you who remember, will be introduced later in this chapter, or next chapter. Most likely next. I am glad that I got one review, from someone unexpected. I am hoping to get more with this chapter. Truly I am sorry for ignoring this fic for so long.

Chapter 3: A Night Out
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hydran stood in a tree overlooking the bench he had been at five hours ago. He had told Natalie's parents where she had gone about an hour after she left. This was part of the plan, since her mother would have automatically said no. Her father would have said yes, if she was there, he knew Henry's father.
"She's late," he said himself, looking at his watch.
When he looked up from his watch he saw Renamon standing next to the bench; her tail swishing side to side.
"He's late," she said looking around.
"Actually, I'm early," he said materializing behind her. He was still in his human form, preferring it to looking like a demon from hell. "I got here about 15 minutes ago."
"Rika never came home," Renamon said shifting from Digimon to human form.
"She's out with the others," he said looking up at the billions upon billions of stars. "It's strange, with so much light pollution you can still see them."
"That is strange, but I never really thought about it," she replied looking up as well.
I hope you readers have noticed that in animes, even in huge cities you can still see the stars. I live in a small city in Connecticut, and I can barely see jack shit for stars. How can they, in a huge city, see so many stars, it defies the laws of science.
"They went to some club called The Hole," he said without moving his head. "I have no idea why they call it that."
"Most likely it's in a basement," Rena said turning her head to watch a jogger go by. When she turned her head back she saw Hydran staring at her. "What?"
"Nothing, you just look different at night," he said turning and starting to walk away. "Follow me, I need to make sure of something."
"What?"
"Just a rumor I heard."
He placed his hand on her shoulder and they phased out.
*****
"What rumor?" Rena asked as they both phased back in.
They were standing in the middle of a wide sidewalk; above them was a large, red, neon sign. The sign read The Hole.
"I heard from someone that there were naked cage dancers in here," he said stepping up to the bouncer. He gave the burly black guy a look and he stepped to the side.
They then walked through the large steel doors, and were bombarded with rave-style music. Inside there was a large central dance floor, surrounded on two sides by tables. The third side was a stage with a live band. I personally don't care what band it is, so just think rock. The fourth side was a bar. There was a balcony, with tables, that covered three of the walls. Starting at one side of the stage, and wrapping around the room to the other.
"Then why did you bring me here?" she asked covering her ears.
"Because you wanted to check on Rika," Hydran responded looking up at the ceiling. The only thing up there were lights that ceaselessly moved. "Hm, must have heard wrong."
"I don't see her," Rena said looking the room over.
"Balcony, right side, table closest to the wall," he said pointing.
Natalie sat at the table, looking over the balcony rail. Henry, Rika, and Takato were sitting at the table with her. She looked around the room until her gaze fell upon the entrance. Standing there was Hydran and that odd girl Rena.
"Why is he here?" she asked herself.
"Who?" Henry asked looking over the edge.
"Hydran," she looked back to the entrance, and he was gone.
"There he is," Henry said pointing towards the bar.
"And Renamon is with him," Rika said turning to look. "I'm going down there, and she better not play innocent."
"I'm going too," Natalie said getting up. "I want to know what he's doing here."
When they got down to the bar, their targets were gone. They described Hydran and Rena to the bartender, who said that nobody looking like that had come in.
"That's impossible," Natalie said, "they were just here, we saw them."
"Hey, listen kid," he said, "it's dark, you could have easily mistaken someone else for them."
"No," Rika said, "they were here. I can feel it."
Turning around they both went back upstairs to the table.
"Find `em?" Takato asked.
Neither of them answered.
"I don't really understand why you're both so worried," Henry said. "What business is it of ours what they do?"
No answer again; both being preoccupied with looking for their Digimon.
Hydran's body shuddered with silent laughter. Both his tamer and Renamon's had no idea where they were. They had not left, merely phased to another place. That place was the rafters above the very table at which their tamers sat.
"Why do you find it funny that they can't find us?" Rena asked giving him a curious look.
Hydran looked at her and shrugged.
"I dunno, I just do."
Rena suddenly shivered and grabbed Hydran for support.
"Did you feel something?" she asked.
"Nothing out of the ordinary, except for that huge spike in energy," he said looking down at her.
"What do you think it is?"
"I have no idea, but I definitely didn't like it."
They stayed in the rafters for about another half an hour, listening to the music, which had gradually gone from rock to slow dance music. Several of the people in the club found this appealing and were dancing. Among these people were the tamers.
Hydran looked at Rena and asked, "Wanna dance?"
"Okay," she said and started sliding off the beam.
Both dropped to the floor unnoticed, thankfully. They stood and Hydran slowly put his hands on her hips as she slipped her arms around his neck. Slowly they turned with the music; quickening pace every few seconds to get out of someone's way. Hydran looked over Rena's shoulder and saw what he was hoping to see, Natalie staring straight at him. A mocking smile formed at the very corners of his mouth.
Something was wrong with the way she was acting. Instead of getting emotional, she just clutched Henry tighter and smiled back.
"She's learning," he whispered in Rena's ear.
"So's Rika," she whispered.
They turned a 180 and Hydran could see that Rika wasn't technically looking at them. She was indeed facing their direction, but her eyes were closed as she slowly turned with Takato in tow. Who'da thought she'd be the one to lead. Rena was watching Natalie make envious faces at her.
"Should we leave?" he asked watching Takato give him a thumbs up.
"After the song," Rena responded.
The song ended about five minutes later (long song). Hydran and Rena went to the coat rack and grabbed their coats. I don't think I mentioned it but they were wearing black trench coats (think Matrix style trench coats). They stepped out the door and turned down the street. It wasn't long before footsteps could be heard behind them. Hydran tightened his hold on Rena's shoulder, signaling her to stop. They both stopped and turned around to face the two female tamers.
"What do you think you were doing in there?" Natalie asked in a voice so that calm you knew she was furious.
"You make it sound like I disobeyed a direct order," he responded with a step forward.
"It was implied," she retorted, "I told where I was going in hopes you would stay away from there."
"Apparently I'm too stupid to read between the lines," he spat at her.
Rika and Rena were watching this little dispute from a few feet away. It was easy for Rika to forgive Rena for coming to the club, she knew it was only because she wanted to check on her.
"Apparently you are!" she screamed at him.
"I'm three feet away, you don't have to yell," he said practically spitting in her face. "I can't believe you were even looking for me. For all the effort you put into making me stay away, you still expected me to show up."
"And you did," she said.
"You didn't let me finish," he said. "I wasn't even there for you, though I'm sure you would have loved it if I was, Rena simply wanted to check up on Rika."
"You said you were looking for naked cage dancers," Rena said jumping into the conversation.
"That was just a joke."
"Oh," she said feeling foolish.
"I can't believe you thought we were there to ruin your evening," he responded. "You ruined it just fine by yourself, Natalie."
He and Rena suddenly turned and looked down the street, which had gotten unusually dark.
"There's that power spike again," Rena said, attempting to focus her eyes through the darkness.
"It's gone now," Hydran said, "whatever it was."
Turning back they both saw their tamers staring at their digivices. Nothing showed so it wasn't a Digimon, and that was not a digital field.
"You two should probably head back," Rena said turning the two girls around giving them both a slight push.
"Be careful Hydran," Natalie said finally going back to the club.
He nodded in response.
"You really do care about her, don't you?" Rena asked.
"It's hard to admit it sometimes," he said, "but yeah, I really do care."
*****
The next few days went by without much happening. The power spike had occurred in random places, but always within the confines of the city, and always close to them. There was no Digimon who could possibly show its power and simply disappear like that. Besides, no digital fields had been formed.
Hydran laid back on the tree branch he was currently on and stretched. His long hair fell to one side of the branch. He stayed there, hands behind his head, legs crossed at the ankle, and eyes closed. All in all it was a pretty comfortable position.
"Nothing could possibly ruin a day like this," he said yawning.
His opened when he sensed a digital field opening.
"Correction, almost nothing."

That's the end of this chapter. I knew it took a long time but I've been busy. The next chapter is going to feature another mega. I'm not sure which one, I have to find a powerful one. Thanks for reading, and don't expect the next chapter soon. And always remember to review.
