Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ It'll Be All Right ❯ Accident ( Prologue )

A navy blue Suburban sped down the nearly deserted streets of West Shinjuku. The night sky was blanketed over the small city, tiny stars dotting all around and twinkling happily.

Inside the car rode a family of four. The driver was a man with short, light brown hair and sitting in the passenger seat next to him was a woman with long, slightly darker brown hair.

Two small children sat in the back, buckled securely to the gray seat. Both of them had light brown hair like their father's, large brown eyes, and looked between the ages of six or seven.

"So, did you two enjoy visiting grandma today?" their mother questioned.

"Sure did!" they shouted in unison. They glanced at each other and grinned.

"I hope Impmon didn't get too lonely," Ai said.

"Yeah, but we can play games with him when we get home, ya know, just to make it up to him," Makoto replied. His twin sister nodded in agreement. They failed to see the frown that formed on their mother's lips.

The father glanced at his wife and grinned. As the two children chattered noisily about their digimon, he leaned over slightly and whispered, "Still bothered by him?"

The mother continue to stare through the windshield as she replied, "It was only a month ago that we learned that a 'digimon' had been living with us for these past few years! It still makes me nervous just thinking about that thing living so close to our children!"

He chuckled. "Really, Midori, there's nothing to worry about!"

Midori narrowed her eyes and hissed out, "Nothing to worry about?! David, he can create fire with his bare hands! He could burn down the house in an instant!"

David continued to smile as he stared ahead. "But he hasn't and he never will. Why would he? Impmon is probably the safest and most caring being we could allow Ai and Makoto to be around." Midori looked like she was about to explode with frustration.

"Did you forget about last weekend?!" she asked in a low voice, glancing into the back. Ai and Makoto were off in their own world as they continued on about their precious Impmon.

"Hmm?" David said, acting like he didn't know.

"Oh my God, David! I can't believe you! Don't you remember when he transformed into that gigantic monster? Don't you dare say he's 'safe' because he was carrying guns! TWO of them! And did you see those horrible claws?! And those boots! Good lord, what if one of my babies tripped over his foot? They could impale themselves!" She grasped his arm and squeezed, her eyes colored with anxiety.

"Dear! Calm down," David cooed, placing a hand over hers. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, Midori slowly pulled away from him and sat back in her seat, staring at her hands.

"I'm sorry, but I can't help being wary around him." She sank down a little in her seat. "I don't know how you could have accepted him so quickly. He's like a hazard waiting to happen!"

"Heh heh, you have the worry gene, honey, not me," he replied with a chuckle. She rolled her eyes and stared out her window.

The car slowed at a stoplight. To the West, an eighteen-wheeler sped down the road. The driver was a burly man with messy black hair and dull, green eyes.

He drove with one hand on the wheel and used the other to tip a brown glass bottle to his lips and he took a long swig from it. He saw a crossing up ahead, and the light turned yellow, then red. Not seeing anyone parked at the crossing, he ignored the light and continued on, taking another swallow of his liquor.

"We're almost home you two," Midori said to her small children as David pushed on the gas pedal right as the light turned green.

She was pulling back around when oncoming headlights blinded her through David's window. Suddenly her heart stopped as Panic's freezing grip took a hold of it and squeezed.

"DAVID!" she screamed, but her voice was drowned out by a blaring horn as it grew louder and the lights grew brighter.

All sounds were cut off when the car was slammed into from the driver's side.

Metal ground into metal.

Cries from the children were silenced abruptly.

Glass imploded and shards of it flew everywhere, slicing cloth, the seats, and soft flesh.

And then darkness enveloped all.
