Chapter one: Making new friends

I slowly opened my eyes with a pounding headache. I slowly raised my hand to the side of my forehead to feel a piece of cloth.

"Mrs. Taylor, he's awake!" Said a voice excitedly.

"Easy, Hirokazu .... you don't want to scare poor boy."

I turned my head when I felt something take my hand. I turned my head again to see a boy around my age with spike hair dark skin, brown eyes and a son top.

"Hi ... I'm Hirokazu." He said shaking my hand.

"Slow down! You might scare him!"

I turned my head to see a young thin woman walking to the other side of the bed. She had long blonde hair blue eyes, a plan white shirt and blue-genes.

"Oh come on, I just want to be his friend." He said as I looked back at the boy who took my other hand, "can I be your friend?"

I looked into his eyes and could see longing in them. Yes I think I can trust him. I tightened my grip on his hands as I smiled.

"Sure ...."

"You will?"

"Sure," I repeated, "I never had a friend before ... I'm Kenta."

"Pleasure's all mine." He said inching closer.

"Come on, Hirokazu, you need to let him rest."

"I don't mind if he stay's," I said truthfully, "I would like that."

"Not at all. If that's all right with you Mrs. Taylor."

"If that's what you want."

"That's what I want." I said

And it's been that way ever since. Hirokazu never has left my side; everywhere I went somewhere he was right there sitting next to me. The other orphan children; Takato, Lee, Suzi (Lee's sick little) sister, Ruki, Juri, Ryo and Alice have been really helpful even though I didn't know Alice every well since she got adopted shortly after a week I arrived.

Ryo's a little on the strange side but he is nice. Takato's fun to hang around with even though I think he's on the sanative side. Lee won't let anyone near him but his sister and Takato. I can understand letting his little sister and a girl but Takato? I tried to ask Lee but he just narrowed his eyes at me and said that he and Takato where good friends.

I think they're more than that. They do everything together. Even sit together during eating hours. I don't mind if they are a couple; love is just love. Some people can get really discouraged when two boys are in love.

Ruki and Juri are both a couple. That was not hard to figure out from the first since they both sleep together; then again, there's not enough beds to let everyone have their own so Hirokazu and I are sleeping together. I sort of like sleeping with my friend, it makes me feel loved and wanted when we snuggle together.

Right now is one of those times. I looked up at Hirokazu to notice that he was resting his chin on my head. His arm rapped around my waist. I snuggled closer to him not even realizing that I woke up him up.

He slowly moved his chine off my head and looked down at me.

"I didn't mean to wake you."

"That's okay. I was just thinking." He said inching closer to me.

"About what?" I asked.

"That I have a friend like you."

"Uh … no problem …."

He then pulled me close again resting his chin on my head again. I couldn't but sigh happily as I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep.

I slowly woke up feeling someone gently shaking me. I opened my eyes and the fist thing I saw Hirokazu's cheerful face.

"Come one dud, it's time to get up and eat!"

"Is it that time all ready?" I asked.

"Don't tell me you forgot that we have breakfast in the morning around 8:00 in the morning did ya?"

"Cut me some slack Hirokazu, I've only been here for about a week."

"Let's just go. Everyone is waiting for us."

I followed him out down the hallway and into the large dinning room. We both sat down and started to eat what was on our plates and I'll have to admit that the food is not that bad.

I decided to scan the table at everyone and notice that Suzie was sitting across from me.

"Hey Suzie. Finally decided to sit with the big kids now?" I joked.

"Now Kenta …. be gentle." Mrs. Taylor said from the other end of the table.

"I was only trying to get her to laugh … sorry Suzie …"

Just then the lights started to flicker and went out.

"Everyone stay calm and I'll be right back!"

Mrs. Taylor ran out closing the door gently behind her. I wonder what caused the lights to go out. It must be a fuse. I shrugged it off and continued to eat.

"I'm cold." Suzie spoke up looking down at the plate.

"Yea. Now that you mention it. It is cold in here." I noticed.

Lee got up took off his green sweeter and rapped it around his little sister with it and started to carry her out. The rest of us looked at each other as Takato took one bite of his mashed potatoes and ran out.
