Kiss Off

Chapter Two

Mimi couldn't believe it! All she did was turn on the oven and…

BOOM! The oven blew up and fire caught up on everything. Mimi ran into her room, pulled the window up and threw out her clothes, wallet with money and her pictures of family and friends. Mimi felt a piece of wood fall on her arm and it burned her. She then jumped out of the window in just a matter of seconds before a falling ceiling fan.

Mimi was now sitting in the hospital with a burn across her upper arm. She winced as she felt her burn pierce pain. Mimi heard the nurse who was taking care of her coming and she lay back down on the bed.

The Nurse was yelling for Mimi to lie down and not move. Mimi had been trying to escape and leave the hospital but she didn't have a doctor's permission.

Mimi heard the nurse say, "She isn't allowed to have visitors, young man."

Mimi then heard a familiar deep, male voice. "She's my girlfriend and we were going to get married in two weeks-"

Mimi acted quickly and rushed out of the door. Outside she saw Matt trying to convince the Nurse. To help him out, Mimi rushed to Matt and threw her arms around his neck.

"Oh, Matt!" Mimi kissed Matt on the check. Mimi turned to the Nurse, "Nurse, my Fiancé."

The Nurse pursed her lips, "I don't know if I should believe you but okay. But don't try to escape. I'll be watching."

As the Nurse turned Mimi dragged Matt into her hospital room.

"Matt! I'm so glad you came to my rescue! That dragon lady wouldn't let me leave." Mimi sighed as she jumped back onto her bed.

Matt glanced down at his friends arm wrapped in a white bandage. "God, Mimi… I'm sorry about your apartment and arm."

Mimi looked down at her arm, "Oh, yeah. That. Well, it's okay. Wounds heal and apartments can be found anywhere in the city."

Mimi grinned up at Matt, "Just means I've got to pull myself together and stand up on two feet."

Matt sat into a chair. "Ti and I went by your place to pick up the things you still have. It seems as if you got all your pictures, not even half your clothes and your wallet with a few bucks. You seem to have gotten the essentials out in time. But I'm sorry to say you don't have most of your pictures. The rest were burned."

Mimi nodded her head. "Yeah. I could have left the clothes and money. The pictures was what I was really aiming for… Memories aren't something you can replace…" Mimi's voice faded a bit.

Matt groaned, "Okay, quit it."

Mimi snapped back into attention, "What?" She asked.

Matt growled, "That thing you always do. Go off into space about you should have done more. And that thing that you do about trying to act strong when your really hurting and scared inside." Matt stood up and strolled to Mimi's side.

"Your life," Matt slid the back of his hand across Mimi's cheek, "Is fare more important. It's you that all of us, including me, will miss if you were taken away."

Mimi, touched, felt tears running down her cheeks. "Oh, God… Matt, I was so scared." Matt sat next to Mimi and held the girl.

"I just turned on the oven," Mimi continued, "And then the next thing I know, I'm throwing things out of my window and then jumping. I was thinking, after all that, what was going to happen to me. I mean all my things are gone in one night! I was so scared because I could see the other apartments on fire and people coming out with burns across their faces, torn clothes… I heard everyone got out alright but there I was still scared because… be-cause…"

"Because what, Mimi?" Matt asked.

Mimi sighed and wiped her tears from her face with a hand.

"Alone."

Matt whispered, "It's alright, Mimi. It's all over. Now you got Sora, Ti, the others and me. You know you're never alone, got that?"

Mimi sniffed, "Yeah. Thanks. Now how about getting me out of this hospital and getting me a double-cheese burger with everything on it, a side order of fries and a large vanilla shake?"

Matt laughed, "Back to normal I see."

Mimi slipped out of Matt's arms and got off bed. Matt turned to see Mimi grinning "Are you or are you not going to help me escape?"

"So the Princess is ready to run away with the Rebel?"

Mimi raised a brow, "Well, have you've already forgotten we're to be married in two weeks?"

Matt grinned slyly, "Why not just skip to the honeymoon part?"

Mimi laughed as she took a pillow and threw it at Matt's head.

Mimi finally got to leave the evil clutches of the 'Dragon Lady Nurse' with the help of Joe. Ti and Sora came by just in time to see Matt and Mimi walking out of the hospital. Sora ran to Mimi, "Oh Mimi! Are you all right? I heard about your stuff. Are sure your okay?"

Mimi laughed, hugged Sora and exclaimed, "Yes, I'm alright. I'll get more stuff. And yes, I'm sure I'm alright."

Ti hugged Mimi next, "Just glad your alright." Ti noticed the bandage on her arm. Mimi caught him looking and grinned, "Just a little burn, Ti. Nothing to worry over."

Ti shook his head, "Well, I gotta tell you that the apartment burning wasn't your fault. Your next-door neighbor has a gas oven that he left on during the night. He left and forgot to run it off. Your oven happens to be directly on the opposite side of his, which is a weird coincidence."

Mimi sighed with relief, "Good. I don't want to be responsible for any harm done to anyone or anything." Mimi groaned, "But that means I've got to go looking for another apartment!"

Matt, who'd been thinking about Mimi needing a place to live, exclaimed, "Why don't you live with me?"

Everyone looked at Matt. Ti snapped his fingers, "That's right! Matt's got a great apartment! It's like an upper floor of this building. Great place! One bathroom but I would move in. I've already got my own little place though. Has a great view of this park next to it where kids always playing."

Mimi turned around to Matt who was opening his car door. "Yeah, big living room. Average size kitchen because everyone knows I can't cook. I've got two rooms and a half room-"

Mimi interrupted "What about-"

Matt held a hand up, "Yes, Mimi. It's got a big closet, walk-in actually."

Mimi jumped up and down, "When can I see it? Huh? When?"

"Whoa!" Matt grinned, "Today. Well, might as well be now."

Ti nodded, "It is a great place." Sora agreed. "Yup," she said, "I like the view from the living room."

Mimi hopped into the front seat. "Come on! I want to see the closet!"

Matt looked up at Sora and Ti, "You two gonna tag along?"

"I would but I got to get to work," Ti shrugged. Sora sighed, "My mom wants us to do something about expanding her work space at home."

Mimi nodded, "Yeah, you told me about that. Look, it's all right you two. I'm fine and Matt's here and I'll call either of you two if I need you or anything."

Sora nodded and hugged her friend, "Just be careful. I'll see you later. I'll tell Joe and Izzy you'll be at Matt's house."

Ti kissed Mimi on the head, "Take care. And don't think Matt's going to elope with you today. You're mine for a day!"

Matt snorted, "Ha! Funny one."

Ti looked over Mimi's shoulder. "Screw you." Ti then smiled at Mimi, "Don't let the Punk behind you bug you."

"Oh," Mimi assured, "I've got him wrapped around my finger."

Matt sighed and joked, "I always was."

Ti shook his head as he said; "She had all us boys in check."

Mimi pinched Ti's cheeks, "And you all loved it!"
