Jijimon and Babamon's Gift! A New Evolution

Sheltered within a deep cave, four children rested. They were silent and somber, instead of talking to each other about topics other children their age spoke of. Sorrow and grief dulled their hearts as they stared at the cloudy sky, and often, one of them would cry silently for their lost friends.

It had been three days since the deaths of their friends...three days spent crying...three days avoiding each other.

What could they do now...but cry?

Motomiya Daisuke had given up trying to talk to his surviving companions the previous day. It wasn't worth the time or energy. Three days ago, he would've joked around with Takeru and V-mon...but Takeru was lost in a world of anger and sadness. And V-mon was dead. *Damn Vamdemon and LadyDevimon...What's the point of having the Crest of Miracles NOW? Nothing's going to bring my friends back...*

Yagami Hikari curled up in a corner, away from everyone else. She really didn't feel like speaking to anyone. Ken had tried to comfort her, to share her sadness, but the girl had set up a barricade around herself and refused to do anything but cry. *Gone...and I didn't even say goodbye...*

Takaishi Takeru was both raging and crying...raging that why couldn't he have managed to hold onto the Dark digivice and Crest, and thus prevented BlackTailmon from evolving into LadyDevimon...crying for his partner, who he might never see again. *They'll pay for what they did...even if I have to die, too...*

Ichijouji Ken had given up on Hikari and was now huddled in a corner of his own, silent sobs wracking his thin frame. *She killed my brother...and now she's killed my best friend, too. Osamu...Wormmon...I'm sorry...*

On the morning of the fourth day, a stern voice filled with power spoke. "Vhat is ze meaning of zis?!"

Takeru turned slowly to look up at the woman who had appointed herself their grandmother in this world. "Babamon...?"

She ignored him, continuing her lecture. "Look at you. All of you! Ze Holy Avatars, ze strongest of all ze Chosen Children, and Ichijouji Ken, crying for your friends ven you could have had zem back already!"

"WHAT?" Daisuke yelped, quickly turning toward the old woman.

A small, tentative smile formed on Hikari's face. "You mean...their eggs are in the Village of Beginnings?"

"No," Babamon said. She held up her hands at the disappointed looks they gave her, and continued. "Zey're vaiting for you, not far from here. I'll take you to zem. Get up, all of you. You're not doing a single zing to help zem by sitting here feeling sorry for yourselves."

Somewhere in the desert, a small purple dragon-like creature sniffed the hot, dry air. Things were about to change...

He could sense it. It was so obvious...Change was in the air. A rebellion was imminent. The balance of power was about to shift.

He could sense the determination...and the Chosen. Not the Dark Chosen, who had crushed his world so easily...but the REAL Chosen.

They would lead the revolution, he was sure. They always did. They did everything for this world and yet they never asked for anything in return.

They were just so good like that.

*Maybe we'll get to help...*

Monodramon turned around and began loping back across the desert, heading back to his partner. After he got back to Ryo and told him the good news, they'd start gathering some old friends.

Babamon ushered the four Chosen Children into a room in the back of the house built into the hillside.

At the back of a torch-lit room, they found four pillars of stone, each with an oddly-shaped object sitting on it.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Jijimon demanded impatiently. "Pick them up."

The four friends glanced uncertainly at each other, then shrugged in unison. "It's worth a try," Daisuke said.

He stepped over to the golden box-shaped object with the symbol of Miracles engraved on it. Mentally crossing his fingers, he placed his hands on the object, which the old couple had called a 'Digimental,' and lifted.

A beam of golden light spiraled up from the hole the Digimental had been resting in. A shadow formed in the light, slowly becoming the familiar shape of V-mon.

"Hey, Daisuke!" V-mon greeted. "It's about time! It was getting boring just stuck under that Digimental! Now we can have fun again, just like old times!"

Takeru smiled as he watched his boyfriend swing his partner around in circles, both of them cheering. He turned to the Digimental with the symbol of Hope, took a deep breath, and lifted, releasing a wave of golden light.

"Takeru!" a happy voice chimed out, and the Avatar of Hope found himself being hugged by his digimon friend. He gave her a scratch behind her wings and hugged her back.

It was Ken's turn next. He stared down at the fuchsia flower-shaped Digimental with the symbol of Kindness engraved on it. As soon as he lifted it, a deep pink beam of energy spiraled out of the hole, revealing the sleeping form of Wormmon.

The green caterpillar opened his eyes, and looked up into Ken's eyes. "Hi, Ken," he said, clamping his two front pods around his human's arm. "Is Tailmon back yet?"

His partner shook his head, and Wormmon frowned. "Hurry up!" he urged Hikari. "I want Tailmon!"

Hikari approached the Digimental engraved with the symbol of Light slowly. After she lifted it, a silver light flowed from the hole, and a feline-like shadow formed within.

Tailmon opened her eyes and stretched slowly, yawning. "It's good to see you again, Hikari...But did you really have to disturb my catnap?" she asked, mock-glaring at the brown- haired girl.

The reunited friends stood at a long, low stone table that held the eight remaining Digimentals.

"I guess these are for our other friends, huh?" Daisuke asked.

Jijimon nodded. "You'll need to search out the other Chosen and deliver these Digimentals to them. It won't be easy; but you'll be able to do it."

"This must be my brother's," Hikari said, pointing at the red-and-orange Digimental with the symbol of Courage. "And that's Sora's, right?" she continued, indicating a silver Digimental adorned with wings.

"That one must be Yamato's..." Takeru gestured at a black Digimental with blue markings, and a golden blade emerging from one end. "And that's Jyou's," he said, turning to took at the silver-and-purple Digimental with a tiny drill at one end.

"Then that one's Miyako's." Daisuke pointed at the Digimental that resembled Sora's. This one, however, had sharper edges and was engraved with the symbol of Passion. "And Koushiro's..." He glanced down at the yellow Digimental with the symbol of Knowledge.

"This one must be Iori's," Ken said, gesturing at the Digimental that resembled a smaller version of Koushiro's, except with three drills instead of just one. "So this last one...is Mimi's." The final Digimental was a dark green color, with the symbol of Purity engraved on it. The Chosen received the illusion that it was growing from the large star-shaped blade it rested on.

Hikari looked up as Babamon entered her bedroom. "Hello," she greeted.

Tailmon was curled up on one of the pillows, sleeping. Her partner was careful not to disturb her as she scooted over to make room for her honorary grandmother.

The old woman sat down on the bed next to her, then silently placed one wrinkled hand on her stomach, giving her a look that plainly told Hikari she knew her secret. The girl's mouth fell open in astonishment. "Y-you know?"

"Yes, I know," Babamon replied with a nod. "You shouldn't keep secrets like zis from your friends."

The Avatar of Light looked down at her hands. "I know...but I just don't want to slow everyone down."

"You von't," the old woman replied. "Zere are spells of protection to keep your baby from all harm."

"And I would still be able to fight?" the girl asked. "My friends need me right now!"

"Zere are two vays ze Digimentals can be used," Babamon said. "Ze first vay allows your partners to Armor evolve-combine with ze Digimentals. Ze second way is one zat you vill have to discover for yourselves...but once you do, you vill never be ze same as you are now."

This is something I'd never imagined... "I...think I understand," Hikari said.

"You'll have to tell Ken about your little one, before you leave."

Hikari nodded silently.

Ken looked up as Hikari entered the bedroom that had been assigned as 'his.'

"Hi, Hikari," he greeted his girlfriend.

She looked down. "I...I have something to tell you, Ken..." Her voice faltered, causing the blue-haired boy to frown.

"Is something wrong, Hikari?"

"..."

After several minutes of not getting an answer, he spoke again. "Don't shut me out. If something's wrong, just tell me."

The Avatar of Light nodded, still not meeting his gaze. "Ken...I...I'm pregnant!"

"We're...going to have a baby? Oh, God..." Ken paused. "Daisuke put you up to this, didn't he?"

Hikari silently shook her head, tears beginning to well in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Ken," she whispered, then turned and ran from the room.

"Wait, Hikari!" Ken called after her, but she was already gone.

The small Bakumon sat on his haunches in the carved-out space beneath the rocky overhang, looking around in bewilderment. Something about this fog seemed very familiar.

Then he thought of something else. Something was missing. He had lost something...no, someone, someone very important, and he had to go looking for whoever it...she, was.

Bakumon waddled off down the foggy mountainside, heading in the direction of the wasteland.

Upon landing on the beach of File Island, Birdramon and Aquillamon collapsed and instantly devolved. It had been a long, hard flight across the ocean from Server, and they needed to rest.

"Sora, do you really think we could find some of our friends here?" Miyako asked again. "I mean, Server's huge, and we might have a better chance back there."

"I'm too tired," Piyomon panted. "I don't think I can fly again today...maybe not tomorrow, either."

"That's not the only reason I wanted to come here," the older girl said. "I've got an idea of where we might find the Dark Chosen."

"Where's that?" Miyako asked.

Sora turned her gaze upward to the mountain that loomed in the distance. It was the place where they had defeated Devimon, and where Takeru lost Pegasmon. It was also one of the few places in the Digital World that seemed to draw evil forces.

Miyako's face paled as she followed the red-haired girl's gaze. "Infinity Mountain?"

***

Hikari was dreaming...although it was more like a vision then a dream.

She was standing in a place that looked like a negative photograph. There were no colors; everything was either black or various shades of grey.

"Where am I...?"

She looked up and down the foggy grey beach in confusion and the beginnings of fear. Even the water was strange here...instead of blue, it was blackish-grey.

It was so quiet and cold...

She almost screamed in horror when she saw the thing...she couldn't describe it; she had never seen anything like it before.

Suspended in the sky above the ocean was a large, churning cloud of pure darkness that began to form tendrils that extended to the beach where Hikari was standing. The strands of darkness broke off the main body of the cloud and began to change shape, turning into silhouettes of humans.

*Could these shadows...represent the Dark Chosen Children?* Hikari wondered.

The human figures grew larger, their features becoming monstrous. Sharp fangs glinted in the dull grey illumination that passed for sunlight in this place, and their red eyes became demonic...

Hikari screamed.

***

Bakumon was still plodding down the mountainside, occasionally stopping to sniff the ground. He was starting to get confused. He had to find the person he had lost, but he couldn't remember who she was or where she could be. This was very strange, because Bakumon knew that he had known this important person for almost his entire life and had treasured her. How could he forget who she was? He pawed the ground in frustration.

His ears twitched, sensing that something was going on nearby. He started trotting quickly toward the noise. Maybe whoever was making all the noise was the person he'd lost!

As he came to the foot of the slope, he was disappointed to see that it was only one of the creatures he had heard called 'humans.'

Bakumon stared in puzzlement. He had never seen a 'human' up close. It was very strange looking, and it was standing talking to a Monodramon.

*Maybe he knows where she is!*

***

Akiyama Ryo stared down at the Child digimon sniffing his ankles. The Bakumon had come up to him, almost seeming to recognize him...or maybe his smell.

The little digimon stared up at him with wide blue eyes. "I'm Bakumon. Do you know the person I lost? You smell like her."

The Wanderer shook his head. "No, I don't think so. Who are you looking for?"

"I don't know. I just know I lost someone important, and now I have to find her, only I can't remember who she is."

"Well," Ryo said, "I'm looking for some important people, too. Have you heard of a group called the Chosen Children and Chosen Digimon?"

"I think so. I saw some humans with digimon back that way!" He gestured with his paw in the direction he had come from.

"Were they good Chosen or bad Chosen?" Monodramon asked.

Bakumon shrugged. "I don't know. One of them had a Wormmon, though. But they were really strange-looking."

Ryo nodded. "That's Ken. I'd like to see him again. Thank you for your help, Bakumon. How would you like to travel together for a while?"

"All right."

***

Murasaki Joruri watched the small group as it made its way across the grasslands. Her attention was focused on the brown- haired girl with the Tailmon.

*I thought Vamdemon killed her...Oh, well.* The red-haired girl shrugged. *I don't care about her. Her partner, on the other hand...She's so beautiful. And she's going to be mine. I just have to get Kindness out of the way. Then she won't have anyone who cares about her...and no one to take her away from me.*
