Teena: *flashes a v-sign* Victory is mine! I finished the next chapter!

Ken: *looking at the screen* ...Why didn't I ever think of that?

Teena: You didn't have the patience to wear them down slowly. Now don't
give away plot points.

Princeling
Part 2

"What's going on? Where's the base?" Hikari asked, confused. Ken looked
at her, an expression of pain and sadness on his face.

"He took it."

"...Daisuke? But why would he do that?" Hikari asked worriedly. "It just
doesn't make sense."

"I think the more important question is HOW he did this," Iori stated. "The
engine room was completely destroyed by Kimeramon, and the power source was
removed."

"You STILL don't get it?!" Ken snapped, whirling on them with angry disbelief
in his eyes. "This wasn't some spur of the moment thing! He's been planning
this for weeks!"

"How do you know that?" Takeru asked him quizzically. Ken frowned faintly.

"It's obvious in retrospect. He's been acting... off lately. I've noticed
alot of little odd things, but I didn't put it together. I didn't realize
what he was doing, and I should have, and now it's too late!"

"It's not too late," Iori said calmly. "I don't accept that Daisuke has
really become evil. If we can find him, we should be able to snap him out
of it."

"I'm not so sure, but it's worth a try," Takeru said quietly, looking at
the bare ground where the base had rested. "Hey, what's that?"

Hikari walked over to him and looked down. "It looks like a Digimon.
Maybe it can tell us something. Come on."

Hikari started down the slope, the rest of the group trailing behind her.
Ken was at the back, watching the Digimon suspiciously as he walked. As
they reached the valley, they saw that it was a Frigimon. A moment later,
they saw the dark spiral on it's arm as it attacked them.

Quickly, the digimon digivolved and went after the Frigimon. The group
of Digidestined watched, most of them shocked, Ken sad and resigned. In
the end, the dark spiral was destroyed. The digimon relaxed, only to recoil
in shock as the Frigimon attacked once more, then ran away.

"No way!" Miyako yelled as their partners de-digivolved. "Why did it hit
again? We smashed the spiral!"

"I don't know..." Ken replied slowly, staring after the fled digimon.

Slowly, the group set out, looking for Daisuke, following the signal from
his D3. The pattern of their fight with Frigimon was repeated over and over
as they walked. A digimon would attack them, fight for a while, then when
they destroyed the spiral, it would run off. Eventually, all the kids were
carrying their tired partners. Suddenly, a voice rang down from above, a
familiar voice, with an unfamiliar tinge of sarcasm.

"Having a rough day?"

They all looked up, and Iori spoke quietly.

"Daisuke."

Daisuke smiled grimly down at them from his perch on Airdramon's head.
Instead of his usual shorts and flame-painted jacket, he was wearing tight
black leather and boots, and a high-collared cape with the old flame design.
He looked like sins of the flesh given material form, and at least three of
the five Digidestined were staring with frank appreciation. One more was
trying very hard not to.

"Shit, I think I'm starting to understand why Matt's gay," Takeru murmured
under his breath, firmly diverting his gaze to the large, threatening Digimon
Daisuke was riding. Suddenly he blinked in shock and pointed at the Digimon's
tail. "Look, you guys! There's a dark spiral on that Airdramon!"

Ken, Hikari, and Miyako forced their eyes away from Daisuke to look for the
spiral as he chuckled darkly. Iori watched him suspiciously, pulling out his
D3 and D-terminal.

"What did you expect? A leash around its neck, maybe? Airdramon are
dangerous, and difficult to control. Now, if you're all done gawking, why
don't we get on with things? I'm here for Ken. He can come with me peacefully,
or I can kick your butts and take him. What'll it be?"

"None of the above!" Miyako shouted, shaking her fist at Daisuke. "Get down
off that stupid Airdramon and come home! Didn't you learn ANYTHING from Ken?!"

"Yup, I learned lots of things not to do," Daisuke shot back with a cocky
grin. "For example, I'm not cluttering up the landscape with control spires.
The spirals don't need them, and they're much more versatile than the dark
rings."

"Aaaaaarrrghhhhhh!" Miyako screamed in frustration. "That's not what I mean,
you baka!"

Daisuke's eyes went cold and hard as he stared down at Miyako. "I think
this little exercise in free speech has gone far enough. Ken, what'll it
be? Do you come willingly or not?"

Ken looked around at the Digimon, all of them exhausted. He picked up
his partner, stepping forward with a resigned air. Hikari jumped forward
to stop him, grabbing his arm.

"Ken, no, you can't!"

"I have to, 'Kari. Look around, none of the Digimon are in any condition
to fight. I can't let anyone get hurt protecting me," Ken replied sadly.

"We're Digidestined, and we look out for our own," Hikari told him firmly,
pulling out her D3 and D-terminal. "No matter what. Digi-armor ENERGIZE!"

"Gatomon, armor digivolve to... Nefertimon, the angel of Light!"

"So, we're doing this the hard way, huh? Fine with me," Daisuke said,
snapping his fingers loudly. A ring of varied Digimon surrounded the
small group, with Snimon and Flymon overhead.

In unison, Miyako, Takeru, and Iori held out their equipment. "Digi-
armor ENERGIZE!"

"Hawkmon, armor digivolve to... Halsemon, the wings of Love!"
"Patamon, armor digivolve to... Pegasusmon, flying Hope!"
"Armadillomon, armor digivolve to... Digmon, the drill of power!"

"Please, Ken, let me digivolve so I can help the others!" Wormmon pleaded
quietly. Ken bit his lip, then put the small bug Digimon down and nodded.

"Go for it. Digivolve!"

"Wormmon, digivolve to..."

Ken gasped as Wormmon came to a halt, unable to digivolve. Daisuke held
up his D3 with a faint smirk. "Did I forget to mention I figured out how
that little trick worked?"

Behind Ken, the other Digimon were putting up a good fight, but they
were all tired, and they were outnumbered. One by one, they fell and
de-digivolved. Their human partners ran and picked them up, holding them
close as they stared at Daisuke in shock.

"That's it, then. Game over, guys. For now. Come with me now, Ken. They
fought for you, they lost," Daisuke stated firmly. Ken looked around at
the tired Digimon and worried Digidestined, and nodded. Picking up his
own partner, Ken slowly walked to the Airdramon.

"Ken, no!" Miyako yelled. "Don't do it!"

"Shove it, Miyako, I won," Daisuke snapped at her, reaching down a hand
to help Ken up onto Airdramon's head. A quick gesture from Daisuke sent
the spiraled Digimon away as Airdramon lifted into the sky.

"Daisuke... Why are you doing this?" Ken asked quietly.

"You'll find out," Daisuke replied as he pulled out a small bottle and
sprayed Ken and Wormmon, sending them down into unconsciousness.

Teena: *snickers viciously* That's right, see what you lost? Didn't know
what you were missing, did you? Man, my brother is SO hot when he puts
his mind to it. I'm so proud.

Yamato: And this has NOTHING to do with the fact that you look so much
like him.

Teena: *grins* Nope. I'm hot all the time. *starts tapping away again*
Go for it, bro... Get your guy.
