Teena: Okay, now that Ken's gone ahead and explained everything to poor
confused Wormmon, I can start again.

Yamato: Lazy brat.

Teena: *rolls her eyes* Says the person who was CONSTANTLY skiving off
with Taichi before I went and got Ken.

Yamato: *grins* What can I say? Tai-chan's good at persuasion.

Teena: Yeah, yeah... Oh, and the other Digidestined show up again.

Princeling
Part 5

"I really don't understand this, but if you trust him, I will, too,"
Wormmon stated firmly. Ken smiled, struck once again by the unconditional
loyalty their partners gave them. "By the way, why are you wearing new
clothes?"

Ken blushed brightly, avoiding Wormmon's eyes. "Anou... My old clothes
got... dirty. So Daisuke got these for me."

"Oh," Wormmon said, snuggling contently. "I like them. The shirt is the
same color as your eyes."

"That's not accidental," Daisuke commented, straightening up from where
he had been leaning against a wall. He walked over and ran his fingers
lightly through Ken's hair. "I knew he would look gorgeous in that color."

Wormmon blinked. Ken blushed brightly, shooting Daisuke a quick glare.
Daisuke just smiled at him smugly. Comprehension slowly dawned in the
digimon's big blue eyes, and his antennae waved cheerfully. "Daisuke
likes you, too, doesn't he, Ken?! I told you it would work out! Are you
going to be dating, then?"

"Um... Sort of," Ken answered slowly.

"Among other things," Daisuke added quickly, grinning.

"Daisuke! Keep it up, wait until YOU have to try to explain the facts
of life to Chibimon!"

Daisuke bit his lip and turned away, but not fast enough. Ken caught
the look of pain that crossed the other boy's face, and put Wormmon
down, standing up. "Daisuke... I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. I don't
understand, though. Why did you leave him behind?"

"He... He wouldn't be happy here. Huge, dark fortress, spiraled
Digimon, and I'd be too busy to really play with him like I used to.
He's better off without me."

Ken and Wormmon's eyes widened in unison. Ken put his hands on Daisuke's
shoulders and turned him around, staring into his eyes. "Daisuke, how
can you think that? You're smarter than that, I know you are. Our digimon
are a PART of us, Daisuke, they need us and we need them."

"Chibimon will NEVER be really happy without you," Wormmon added gravely.
"No matter how much he likes whoever he's with, or how often they play
with him, it will feel empty. Because he's not with you."

"And without him, you'll always be incomplete. You'll always feel like
something is missing. Because something WILL be missing."

Tears filled Daisuke's eyes, and he started to tug against Ken's hold
on his shoulders. Ken just tightened his grip, shaking Daisuke lightly.
"Wormmon stayed with me, even when I abused him as the Kaizer, because
we belonged TOGETHER. And you think Chibimon would be better off without
you just because you won't be able to spend as much TIME with him? Listen
to yourself! You're not making sense!"

Daisuke's shoulders slumped as tears ran down his face. "Because those
aren't the real reasons. Ken, Chibimon LIKES the Digidestined. I can't
bring him here and let him watch me tear them apart."

Ken and Wormmon stared at him with shocked expressions. Ken let one
hand slip up to cup Daisuke's face. "Why do you have to hurt them? I
know they made mistakes, but ask yourself, do they really deserve
whatever you have planned?"

Daisuke's face hardened and he scrubbed the tears away. "Yes. For
what they did to me, they deserve it. But you don't approve, do you?
For you, and for Chibimon, I'll give them one chance. They came back
while you were talking to Wormmon. Go. Get Chibimon and bring him back
here, and warn them. Tell them that if they stay out of the Digital
World, I'll leave them in peace. But if they come back again, I'll
have my revenge. Take one of the Airdramon, it's faster. You know where
they're kept. The guards will let you through."

Ken watched Daisuke's face carefully, then stepped back. "Alright. I'll
go, and I WILL come back, I promise you. Come on, Wormmon."

Wormmon followed without argument as Ken walked through the door and
down the hall, past the guards, who bowed and stepped out of the way,
all the way to the large area the Airdramon stayed in. Wormmon shivered
slightly as Ken jumped up on one of them, but scrambled up next to him.
Ken shot his partner a small smile.

"Deja vu, ne? But it's not my Airdramon, and I'm not the Kaizer."

"All that belongs to the Master is yours as well," the Airdramon rumbled
as it flew out of the fortress. "Such is the Master's will."

Ken and Wormmon exchanged startled glances. Ken shook his head slowly
and sat down, pulling Wormmon into his lap. "Take us to the Digidestined,
please. Daisuke said it was alright."

"I know," Airdramon replied as it changed direction. "The Master has told
us his will."

Ken sighed faintly and hugged Wormmon, waiting.

The other Digidestined were pretty much lost. They had gone home to rest
and feed their Digimon, then returned to find Ken, but the signal from his
D3 had been blocked. They had sent a few messages via the D-terminals,
but hadn't gotten an answer. So they had fallen back on the tried-and-true
method from when Ken had been the Kaizer- Wander around until the bad guy,
in this case Daisuke, showed up to fight them. So far it wasn't working.

"This is ridiculous," Iori stated calmly. "He's obviously not paying
attention. The only reason he showed up earlier was because he wanted Ken.
Now that he has him, there's no reason to show up. Daisuke has no spires
to destroy, and his spiraled servants have probably been ordered to avoid
us."

"Look, if you have any better ideas, we're open to suggestions," Takeru
snapped. "We don't have any idea where he is, so our only option is to
wait for Daisuke to come to us!"

"He's not going to. I talked him out of it," Ken called down, the other
Digidestined jumping as Airdramon's shadow fell across them. He stood
easily on Airdramon's head, balancing with the perfection that comes
from practice. He blushed faintly as the three older kids stared with
dropped jaws, suddenly remembering that he was still wearing the clothes
Daisuke had provided for him.

"Ken! Did you escape? And WHERE did you get that outfit?" Miyako asked
quickly, practically drooling. Ken picked Wormmon up and hopped to the
ground.

"I didn't exactly escape. For one thing, I'm going back. As for the
clothes... Daisuke gave them to me."

"Where is he, where is he?!" Chibimon yelled, fighting loose from Miyako's
arms and hurrying over to Ken. "Where's Daisuke?!"

Ken laughed quietly. "It's okay, Chibimon, that's why I'm here. I got
him to change his mind, I'm here to pick you up and take you to him."

"Yay! Yayayay!" Chibimon replied, jumping up and down demandingly until
Ken picked him up.

"Are you INSANE?!" Miyako screamed loudly. "Has he put a spiral on YOU
or something?! You can't go back! Daisuke's the bad guy now! He's evil,
bad to the bone!"

"He's NOT!" Ken insisted angrily. "Daisuke isn't evil! He's just angry.
That's the other reason I'm here, I came to warn you."

"Warn us about what, Ken?" Hikari asked, stepping forward. "What is he
going to do?"

"I don't know exactly," Ken answered, shaking his head. "But he said to
tell you that he'll leave you alone if you stay in the real world. If
you come back here, though, you won't be safe."

"But if we stay in the real world, we might be safe, but the Digital
world won't be," Hikari responded.

"Yes, it will. He's... He's not like I was. He's not hurting anyone,"
Ken told her earnestly. "Please, just go. He's angry because you hurt
him. But he won't hurt you if you stay in the real world."

"What makes you think that?" Takeru demanded. "Daisuke was a total nut
job BEFORE he went on this 'Take over the Digital world' kick! We can't
trust him now!"

"He's NOT a nut job! You just don't understand him! You never did! You
never BOTHERED!" Ken yelled, pure rage sparking in his eyes. Chibimon
bit Ken's arm a little, just enough to get his attention, then shook
his head.

"Don't fight with them, Ken. If they don't get it by now, they aren't
gonna. Let's just go, I miss Daisuke."

"Yeah... Me,too," Ken told Chibimon, calming down. Wormmon sighed and
started scrambling back onto the Airdramon.

"I've always hated doing this," Wormmon muttered to himself as he fought
his way up. Ken walked over and boosted his partner up, then jumped up
himself, still holding Chibimon.

"Ken... Why are you doing this? Why are you going back?" Hikari asked,
looking up at him questioningly. Ken looked down at her and smiled, a
true, happy smile that amplified all his natural beauty.

"I love him."

tbc...

Ken: You're stopping THERE?!

Teena: Yup.

Ken: You are an evil, sadistic creature with no care for human suffering.

Teena: *smiles brightly* Thank you.

Yamato: ...You can't insult her, can you?

Teena: Not like that, you can't. Things are going to get fun soon, since
we ALL know the bakas aren't going to listen to Ken's warning.

Ken: *smirks, evil glint in his eyes* This IS going to be fun...
