~*~ Day and Night ~*~

That night felt so perfect. I wouldn't have changed a thing… except for the rest of the night after stepping off of her doorstep. Something was wrong. I listened for a moment. Two voices came from the living room.

"Ruki! How was your evening?"

"Fine mother. Just fine."

"Was he dressed nice?"

"Well he was dressed like a penguin, I mean appropriately, if that's what you're asking."

"Ruki, don't get that tone with me. I'm your mother. I also paid for that date."

"So? That's all you care about is how my date looks. No Ruki can't go out with an ugly or unpresentable guy… what would that do to Mama Mankino's image?"

"Ruki…"

"Just leave me alone mother…"

A door slams.

Silence.

I walked around the back and looked through Ruki's bedroom window. She plopped on her bed and began looking through her old cards.

"Stupid, controlling, make-up happy, ergh!!!"

She threw her cards across the room.

* Poor Ruki, God her mom is such a bitch!!! *

I started to leave for home.

I sat up in my bed the rest of the night. I couldn't sleep. I just kept having these thoughts in my head…

Did it really happen?

Did I just go out with Ruki Mankino? The Daughter of a supermodel?

Dammit! No she was my friend before I ever knew that. Besides… that shouldn't matter. Gawd. I had turned into a shallow male.

But hey. I scored a date with a feminist. Crap did it again!

The next day at school I had fallen asleep in math. I was having a dream. It was different than the other dream.

Ruki was sitting across from me. She was looking down at her soup, stirring it slowly.

"Jen, I don't think this is gonna work out." She said looking at me from under her bangs.

"What do you mean?" I said looking her in the eyes.

"Jen, something is wrong with you. You may not know it yet, but there is." Again she avoided looking all the way up.

"What are you talking about? I feel fine…"

"Jenrya, look at your hands…" She said.

I did. They looked pale and skeletal.

"Jenrya… its not gonna work out." She repeated.

"Jen, you're dead."

"NO!" I bolted up in my desk!

"Mr. Lee… do you need to go to the clinic?" Mrs. Yamachi asked.

"Yes mamme." I said leaving for the nurses office.

This was gonna be a loooooong day.
